This is awesome. The aria is so difficult to sing. I agree: this is better than the recording. However, kudos to John Williams for listening to the singer and giving the singer what she needs with tempi and phrasing. Incredible performance.
I agree that this performance is better (certainly "cleaner") than some earlier performances. And for those who say she lost her chest voice, notice how well integrated it is in this challenging aria. Also, LOVE the little gesture at the audience not to applaud before the cabaletta ("wait, I'm not done") - always done with class.
Thrilling, gorgeous singing from the queen of Verdi spintos... I do agree with a couple of the comments here regarding tempi... The aria seems a bit fast, robbing it of some of the passion and longing Elvira feels for her lover. Whereas the cabaletta is on the slow side... Then she moves it more for the stretta, and Williams has to struggle a bit to catch up! Overall a spectacular performance though!

She was always a horrific actress ; here, her "coloratura" is a little better than the recording and there isn't much nuance ; it's kinda heavy ... but, this aria is not always done all-that well ( the trills are what makes this aria so fantastic ). Price has very pretentious mannerisms which always prevented _involvement._ She was always the diva ( opera singer, first ). The only time she was dynamite was her recording of _Carmen._ We couldn't see her face, but the vocal-characteristics proved to be her greatest performance. There were no pretentions ; no mannerisms ; just dramatic, seductive vocal-power & I think it had to do w / Corelli's magnificent _Don Jose ;_ also _his_ greatest vocal-performance.

Price was for me one of the greats, but i find this rendition a little rushed and uninvolved. But the voice was a marvel.
