The orchestra was superb at the end.
Oh my goodness.
The world doesn't have another Leotyne Price.
She's a soprano goddess. 🔥 ❤️
That audience response is pure goosebumps, oh to have been there..
Unbelievable force in this role, this 1984 Metropolitan opera live performance is not to be missed.
Flipping heck! And THAT is how you deliver a curse!!! Wonderful !!!
Tremendous grounding. That high note was completely unexpected. Queen.
Fabulous! "How to Make an exit" by Leontyne Price...
The greatest Verdi soprano of all time!
Who in their right mind would dislike this? Truly great singing, no one of this quality now.
Oh my God! Bless you Miss Price. My all time favorite soprano
Dayyumm!!!, Ms.Leontyne put a hell of a curse on umm at the end didn't she?..never heard a more beautiful voice..not here on Earth.
Oh WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I don't need anyone else's interpretation nor voice for this beautiful piece; I've heard the ultimate. She also performed this at a much earlier age and it was magnificent.
God blessed her with a mighty gift which she shared with the world. Ms. Price, I wish you well.
absolutely breathtaking and beautiful!
She is untouchable! No one can match this performance. Superb in every way!!
I was fortunate to see her in concert in Vancouver after she had retired from the opera stage. She still had it all in my humble opinion. Her encore was 'Summertime' from Porgy and Bess. What a talented and gifted class act!!
Callas always tops it and you can understand every single word Callas sings
All I will say is this... every singer gives it their own interpretation.
Crazy organist in your opinion she does. Price’s voice is superlative. No one to trump this.
She considered herself a lyric soprano and by doing that she managed to preserve her voice and its longevity.
Dragan Vidic Very smart LADY indeed. She said lyric Spinto . She knew her limitations smart LADY ! 🙏💜🌍🌎🌏🎹🎶🎵
Dragan Vidic sorry not an opera expert here. What do you mean by her considering herself a lyric soprano she preserved her voice?
Yosvani Ramos by thinking “smaller” than her actual vocal size, she preserved the instrument for much longer than most singers (even w/good technique most operatic voices only last about three decades). By saying I’m “I’m a lyric soprano” she ideally never “pushed” her voice to its fullest capacity, thus giving her more years with her voice. Most singers get bored/move up from the lyric repertoire that they’ve been singing for the first 10-20 yrs of their career to gain their bearings, for more larger (dramatic) rep. that REQUIRES you to push your voice.
She sang the same 10-12 roles her whole career. And recorded each more than once
Agreed, she sang extremely well in recitals WAY beyond her retirement from the operatic stage. I would venture that she even sang better from vocal rest than in some of her later fully staged performances, such as here. Yet, she did have some trouble (noted here) because, I speculate, she started singing into her resonances to make her sound bigger and wider, whereas her greatness had always been in her earlier, narrow and laser focused placement. It is still present here sometimes above the staff. But the raspy ending (and other places in between) is a sign of vocal strain, rather than dramatic emphasis.
What an absolutely incredible performance!
Yes of course the vice is priceless as always...but she looks absolutely STUNNING in this video
She takes my breath away 😍
And she’s just a thrilling performer to watch
The voice is everything. Her beauty is everything. Her majesty is everything. She just forgot about art. I mean Art.
As the title of the aria suggests, this brings me holy peace.
Once you hear Leontyne in this role no one else ever comes close
Yashin 74 Angela Brown comes very close. She is a huge fan of Leontyne Price.
I’ve always felt the same way lol. And I’ve heard some fantastic sopranos on this aria but I just love LP voice on this .
Ella es una voz apasionante y extraordinaria!!!!
surely this is the pinnacle of leonora, surely she cannot get any better than this, here history is made
an andy SHE WAS PASS HER PRIME BUT SHE NAILED IT ! I HAVE THE CD & LISTEN TO THE U TUBE PERFORMANCE WITH CORELLI MY FRIEND. ITS TRULY FANTASTIC!!! 🙏🎶🎹🎵🎻🌍🌎🌏😳
Call an usher with a sheet. I'm down for the rest of the weekend off of this anointing. GONE!!!!!!
Dana, obviously you don't understand Verdi at all neither this great Opera "La Forza del Destino and this wonderful performance ( except your comment was a joke ....)
Única, siempre me emociona escucharla!!!❤
Una voce stupenda!
A true force of nature. I love this!
Clear, perfect, magnificent.
Melissa Schroeter
''Clear,perfect,magnificent'' ?!
davvero ?! ...
ahahahahahahahahahahahah !
I came here after watching Netrebko’s performance. I realized Netrebko can’t hold a candle to this performance of Price.
My god what a gift to this world
Love her talent, phrasing, pitch, dynamics and her tenacity. I have to say the best artist America has ever produced. She drives that ending, too !
Best artist America has ever produced? No. One of them, certainly, but not THE best. No!
@@wyadore The arts, no matter which, carry a degree of subjectivity which often makes it difficult, if not impossible, to name a GOAT; however, in the case of female classical singers, to those who truly know the art of classical singing and performance, have taught it, lived it and have heard and seen the greats, even worked with them, there IS a GOAT. I am not about to engage in useless argument by naming her. I will say, though, it ISN'T Maria Callas. On top of all this, Mr. Esposito claimed Price was "the best artist America ever produced." Artist covers many fields of endeavor, making his an even more impossible claim.
Maria Callas was born in New YorkCity-Might be America's best soprano so far...
How is it humanly possible to dislike this?
Bravo❤I love this aria and this great singer. Formication
YES Leontyne! Thank you.
It's hard to get this kind of voice quality today. She's a goddess.
This is later in her career but still beautiful!
It is late in her opera career, but she continued to sing recitals for another 15 years or so and came out of retirement in 2001 to sing for a post 9/11 concert.
J ai écouté Margaret Price puis AprileMilo. Sublimes.
Leontine Price, one of the greatest sopranos ever, with the vioice allmost mezzosopran!🎼🎶🎵❤️❤️❤️❤️👸Bravissima Leontine!!!👵👵👵👵
When she performed this Opera at the Metropolitan Opera House she was well past her prime. But if you're never heard leontyne price prior to this performance you would say what an incredible voice well in her fifties and she has that unique incredible voice. I'm so glad that she sang within limits and preserve that incredible voice so Primal and true. The best voice to come out of America. Sincerely Arnold Bourbon Amaral 🙏👍💃💗🇺🇸🌏🌎🌍
She might have been past her summit, but her summit was so high and mighty that even here she sounds better than anyone else today in this music.
Very true & very Sad my friend beyond sadness.😞😓😪 Viva La Price La unica 💙💚👑
Gorgeous as always! Praise the Lord!
MARAVILLOSA.
this is more brutal than any death or heavy metal song ever, its devastating.
Just glorious!!!!!

Our Grandest & Dearest
Madame Leontyne Price
Amazing.
wow! goose pimples everywhere! amazing!
brava...just, brava!
Bravissima!
How lucky those ears in the audience! Probably never again anyone will experience such a singer.
Leontyne Price connected as Never that day, priceless ending 😮😭😭😭💫✨🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
The great Price, in one of her best roles. Just fabulous.
Miss Price IS and WILL ALWAYS BE: THE DIVA OF ALL DIVAS!
Love her 💘 Bravissimo!!!
GREAT!!!!!
superb!!!!!!
Gravação histórica. Simplesmente incomparável.
This aria is perfectly executed from the beginning mezzoforte to the startled expression of shock and dismay when she hears the men approaching: "Ma chi giunge?" to the show-stopping high C (or is it b-flat?) at the end with that little flip (?) that only Price does. I just can't get enough of this performance. No one else measures up in this role.
Fantastic 👏✨
there is s god
OMG - I am speechless
I am really ashtonished! the perfect expression of this aria!
I don’t really know what she’s singing but it sounds beautiful.
Real opera. Real La Forza. Passion.
I heard her at the Metropolitan in Un Ballo in Maschera and in Philadelphia in Il Trovatore in the late 60's. Unmatchable beauty.
Anyone lucky enough to be at this performance you were say history in the making. I bet the curtain calls were endless...they'd better be.
I wasn't there, but I was watching it televised live on PBS. She was remarkable! Brava!!!!
It's like the best Master Class at Julliard. You just don't get better than this. My goosebumps get goosebumps. I was fortunate to see her in recital in Oscar Meyer Theater in Madison, WI in the early 90's. she sang this aria, and you could hear a [in drop. We met her afterwards for a autograph. So sweet, and a classy humble, lady.
belcantospecialist I was there. True, Price was fantastic, and the rest of the cast was very good. But this is a LONG opera with a lot of dry moments. By the time Price came out for this aria, people were falling out of their chairs already.
@@bodiloto Are you one of those Italian football fans who sit in the stands and makes monkey noises when black players go by?? That's what you're doing now, fucking racist!!
Really one of a kind 💖 the end is legendary really 💘
Bravissima
She is magnificent!
Price is talented and excellent technique. The diction in Italian is perfect, the difficult notes come out effortlessly and her warm and sensual voice is among the best ever. A reference for Verdi and Puccini.
You call "effortlessly" to Price has lyrical soprano high notes type, she has no soprano spinto high notes
Extraordinary!!!
Great as usually
MARAVILLOSA
Ebony Goddess performing opera: Captivating!!!!!!
Tremendous !
YES!!!!
She was beautiful 💚💙
Brava!!! Brava!! Brava!! Brava!!!
This is the 1869 revised version. The Met has never done the 1862 version of this opera.
Divine ......................
No one better...EVER!!!
The best
Supernatural! That's what good singing is!
❤️
Colossal
rrasô. alô alô. fantasticô .
No words are superlative enough to describe Price in this role and this aria. She and Verdi are one. Their souls are linked forever.
MA.. chi giunge??!!! Every time a car pulls up to my house, I start on that... and “Maledizione” whoever comes to my door. Then open the door and it’s usually just friends or family 🤗😁
Perhaps the most beautiful true words yet. Thant you.
