    Senza mamma, bimbo, tu sei morto!
    Le tue labbra senza i baci miei
    Scoloriron, fredde, fredde
    E chiudesti, o bimbo, gli occhi belli
    Non potendo carezzarmi
    Le manine componesti in croce
    E tu sei morto senza sapere
    Quanto t'amava questa tua mamma!
    Ora che sei un angelo del cielo
    Ora tu puoi vederla la tua mamma
    Tu puoi scendere giù pel firmamento
    Ed aleggiare intorno a me, io ti sento
    Sei qui, sei qui, mi baci, m'accarezzi
    Ah dimmi quando in ciel potrò vederti
    Quando potrò baciarti
    Oh dolce fine d'ogni mio dolore
    Quando in cielo con te potrò salire?
    Quando potrò morire?
    Quando potrò morire?
    Potrò morire?
    Dillo alla mamma, creatura bella
    Con un leggero scintillar di stella
    Parlami, parlami, amore, amore, amore!

      I met her when I was a child. She was visiting a friend next door to me. I heard this beautiful opera coming from the house. I though my neighbor was playing her stereo very loud. I was surprised it was coming from someone's mouth. LOL. I was lucky to be introduced. I remember her being very grand.

    I saw the great Price onstage as Aida and, of all things, Ariadne! She made everything great. My question is how any soprano can get through this aria - not that it’s particularly difficult for technique - but because it’s so emotionally raw. Beverly Sills sang it once, just after her handicapped son was institutionalized, and she said she was hysterical and weeping through the whole performance. She never sang it again.

    The first bars are empty of phrasing, vibrato, direction. Then it begins to become sumptuous, colourful, very opulent, big. I find that these qualities are in fact unuseful to this music. We need more fragility, finesse. She is always the sensuous round voiced Price, not really Suor Angelica. Of course it's only my little opinion.

    • @bonotoon5273
      @bonotoon5273 Рік тому +8

      Suor Angelica just found out her son died, why would you expect any “finesse” when someone is going through shock?
      I do not agree with you at all. This interpretation is absolutely perfect. Her “empty” phrasing in the beginning, as you call it, truly represents the emptiness and shock of the character: not knowing how to process her emotions…a feeling that there’s nothing left to live for-total darkness. The voice needs to be full and warm when she’s thinking of her son being an angel in heaven lol. It moves in and out between shock, grief, and dare I say, even joy.
      Regarding fragility, this is the most fragile I’ve ever heard anyone sing this aria. When she’s singing the last few bars over the funeral march, you just want to rip your heart out-and no one, I mean NO ONE I’ve ever heard sing this has ever held that last pianissimo note like that. All the great singers, even ones known for this role, run out of breath or end up with a wobbly vibrato.

    • @foropera
      @foropera Рік тому

      @@bonotoon5273 I understand what you feel and see in that interprétation. As I said, we have personal opinions. We project something.
      In my case I prefer another type of voice, in that part, and relation to the text.
      But I cherish her royal and comfortable in many, many other roles.

    • @liedersanger1
      @liedersanger1 Рік тому +1

      @@foropera Of course she never sang the role -just the aria. I wish she had sung the role. It was never even on her shortlist. It would’ve been an interesting two opera show, with Il Tabarro, or, early in her career, when she had a stronger, lower register, Cavalleria.

    • @foropera
      @foropera Рік тому

      @@liedersanger1 yes I agree with that. It's better when you are on stage in the real situation, to feel the whole context. In Dialogues of the Carmelites she played the role as it should or can be.
