Painting the GMC Square Body Cab - Full Process Warts & All!

In this latest installment of our '86 GMC escapades we will go through MY entire process of painting the cab.

I am old retired aircraft/auto painter. I learned a little trick from years ago when you get a run in your paint. Take some tape preferably 2" wide and stick it to your clothing to get some of the sticky off. Apply it to the run lightly and quickly remove from the paint run area. Allow it to tack for a few minutes. Then turn your gun spray pattern to a pin point. Stand back 6 feet and fill the pulled tape area with paint working side to side. Watch for not getting the paint to heavy, remember lightly fill the area. You can look at again in an hour and if the result is not what you want, then you can sand and repaint the next day, like you did. This trick does take practice to be proficient, but is a real time saver.

Good job, looks mighty fine to me. Thanks for bringing in the band to kick out some jams -- got my second wind & was able to watch the entire video all bright-eyed & bushy-tailed. Good to see Poppin Fresh & Roscoe. Maybe you'll get a chance to bring in Dipstick Jimmy sometime. Take care!

The paint came out great!!
I learned the hard way, too. Paint and reducer lasts a long time. The activator/catalyst does not. Yes, it's all expensive, but spraying a bad batch of paint is more expensive.

The red spot putty works great for the pin holes.

Looks good, I've always thought a quality paint job is like a moon shot. There's plenty chances to stump your toe. I bet this is going to look great.

So, my question is how big of a mess did that make in the warehouse? You had a fair-sized square of cardboard on the floor under the cab, but I saw plenty of overspray. Did that all clean up or leave red all over the floor? Maybe you aren't concerned about that, but I might be a little in my shop. And all the other stuff in the vicinity and the white walls, did that stuff get a coating as well?
