      Yeah shame but unfortunately he doesn't have the capacity to use them! Seplos and other batteries sitting there doing nothing. Looking at the garage he might have to do an off-grid warehouse garage channel soon! 😂 One thing Prowse did well was having every server rack and power station he had hooked up for long term testings! And MWh's of power generation!
      I should add that in Australia you can only feed 10kw maximum into the grid. As Andy is probably still under he's original solar contract it's just not going to change soon, nor is it worth it!

    I love your humor, Andy, as well as your show-off off-Grid Garage. In fact, I'm Off-grid not in a Garage but living on an ocean-going Sailboat. In your UA-cam programs, one thing I learned that is the BMS are not reliable up to the tasks needed for the use. In my case, I have stayed with 4 x 215 amp AGM batteries and 720 watts of solar power. My question is what is the best compo of 12-volt safe lithium batteries and BMS. The fear I have, the BMS system will fail at the wrong time and leave me and my boat without power with a failed battery and BMS system. I'm more than happy to pay for your consulting advice as to what brands of 12-volt Batteries totaling 800 amps with a matching BMS to upgrade my boat system. I look forward to hearing from you.

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for your feedback, John.
      4x 215Ah AGM batteries will give you only 4x 105Ah of usable capacity. So using now 4x 200Ah lithium is a massive upgrade in terms of capacity because you can now use almost all the 800Ah!
      I would not be concerned about a BMS failing once they are setup correctly. As you may know, I'm testing these products and drive these things in the wrong direction on purpose to see if they fail, when and how safe they still are...
      Especially in your case, you will have 4x 200Ah lithium batteries in parallel. Even if one fails, you have redundancy. Big benefit and the reason I went with three banks in parallel as well.
      So, any 200Ah LiFePO4 with BMS will do the trick for you. I would, however recommend a Bluetooth option for your batteries so you can keep an eye on the cells and also set them BSM up as you need them.

    2 Question's.
    1- Bottom cell have imbalanced pressure right ?. I think the battery arrangement is not that good. its placed horizontally so the the bottom cells will have more pressure and is it recommended to use in this way ?. Will that accelerate the degradation of cells . I believe most of the manufactures are placing cells vertically in Powerwall design due this reason.
    2- are you using raspberry pi to get the CAN data or this CAN cable plugged into inverter ?

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Рік тому +1

      1. That's not a problem, the 300kgf compression will be much larger as just the weight of the batteries on top of each other. EVE states, the batteries can be used in any orientation just not upside down.
      2. I use the Victron Cerbo GX to receive the CAN data. But this will also work with a Pi or any inverter, either CAN or RS485.

  • @LarryKapp1

    I have one of these Orient Power wall batteries to go along with the older Jakiper ( pre pro model ) batteries. The voltage runs a bit higher because those older Jakiper batteries did not have the better quality Eve cells. But all the Pace BMS work fine together . I will be interested what you find for cell differential when you charge full . I had set my charge voltage down to 55.2 but recently moved it back up to 56v and going higher after watching your last few videos. Hoping the bms balancer brings it more in tune. Well today the voltage got up to 56.5v and the differential on the battery was 110 mv differential. I don't think it went to OVP though. The older Jakiper I had used a Neey balancer to top balance in past ( not on it now though ) and it went to 45mv differential. Thanks for the video. oh Mine was bought here in USA in May and I did not get programming cable with mine or the signed inspection sheet - maybe that is a new feature or just for you - the bracket also was not in a separate box. ( but it was at a very good price so maybe they were clearing out the older stock).

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for sharing, Larry.
      56V should be absolutely fine for this battery. The balancer has only a relatively small current of around 80mA, so it will take a while to balance it. 110mV delta is not too bad for 56.5V either and as long as no cell goes OVP, It will balance it out over time.
      More about this in the next video...

      Licenced electricians in Au are not cheap. Watching the diy scene in USA is tempting as the total installed cost is much less. (Even allowing for exchange rates).

    7:58 f the german Standard for the torque testing is, to min double check this - and 2 colours for marking. At high voltage, starting with 6kV, we have 3 checks and 3 colours (must be done by 3 different persons). Anyhow - one dokumented check is better than nothing.

      Honestly in more than 99,99% we didnt find faults by double checking. But - especially in High Voltage Switch gears and similarly, any fault can cause extremely high costs in case of failiures (and additional very expensive time delays on a project....)
      As I worked as errection and comissioning engineer/manager of elektrical equipment, like switchgears - the first check was done at the factory, and 2./3. check at site after installation (which had 4th colour).

Every kWh that I don't use and is transported to the grid, can be used later within the same contract year without any cost. So that is a free battery for as long as this is allowed (at least until 2025).
      But I am going to add more solar panels on the empty (wrong facing) roof and will replace the Growatt inverter with a hybrid model as soon as I have a nice estimate of useful battery capacity.
      The other option would have been the brick and concrete garden shed, but I don't think that's a good idea for Lithium batteries.
      From all I have seen and read, CATL is planning to use the same battery form factor, which makes it easier to convert the existing factories. BYD is building new factories, also in India. And one other brand (forgot the name) is releasing a Sodium Ion car in early 2024.
      So I still have some hope, but your review and answer has given me enough trust in the Jakiper LFP batteries to buy it and not wait infinitely. My main goal is to use as little Coal/Nuclear power as possible, and this battery will enable that.

      2. not sure if the Pace 16s MS will also work with a 15s battery. I have asked Gobelpower that question and will update my comment
      Yes, you can have as many different BMS in parallel as you like as long as they have all the same voltage. So you cannot mix a 15s battery with a 16s battery for example.

      Gobelpower has replied and it is possible by combining balance cable #15 and #16 together and se the cell number in the BMS to 15.

      Sorry for all my questions! It seems that most BMS's don't have protocol for MPP Solar inverters , MPP Solar gave me the protocol file when I bought the inverter so How would I install it into the BMS through this Software? I now have the software so thank you for the link .@@OffGridGarageAustralia

    When hang on a wall, the cells will be lying on the wide side. Isn't it not a recommended orientation for cells that way?

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Рік тому

      That's not a problem, as long as they are compressed and the gas bubbles are being pushed out with the first few cycles. Manufacturer states all orientations are fine but upside down.

    What happens if I try to use 16S battery in parallel with my 15S pylontech ones? Should I expect nice explosion? :)
    Btw, the pricesin Switzerland for the Pylontech is unbelievable now - 1600CHF with shipping for 4.8kWh US5000 model.
    I would still like to build my own, but as Pylontech is 15S, not sure what BMS would I use.

      One battery will charge the other but the BMS will prevent anything bad happening.
      You can still build your own battery and choose a 15s BMS so you can parallel it with the Pylontech. The JK for example, is available as a 7s-20s with 2A active balancer.

      Yes, correct. It's about the heat dissipation where the stranded cable has an advantage and therefore can carry a higher current before it reaches the same temperature as a solid cable.

    I don't know. I think somebody's trying to pull a fast one because of the production date of the batteries. The way they have it dated it could make some people confused on almost a whole year of the date of production because is it really the 12th day of February 2023 or is it December 2nd of 2023? I see that date how they've done. It confuse a lot of people especially in a year or two. How are people going to know they are talking about the 12th day first and not the month first because normal people do it month date year not date month year. But is it even worth even talking about?

    • @CollinBaillie
      @CollinBaillie Рік тому

      Mostly because it's an international date standard. Not too many places have the month first as a typical standard. These batteries are also measured with dimensions of millimeters and capacity of milliamp-hours. It's all very metric, and so a bit of a give away. It just takes a couple of seconds to slow down and think about it.
