My Mother used to play the Battle Hymn on her stereo and had all 6 of my children marching all through her house waving small American flags on sticks. What a beautiful memory and what a glorious way to celebrate Memorial Day!!

At 81, I am the youngest of the 5 Miller brothers who proudly served Our Country for the freedom many people today take for granted. This video always brings tears to my eyes as they run down my cheeks. It won’t be long before I stand in front of Our Savior, as many singing this song have gone before me.

I am currently a cantor and choir member in my church but in high school I belong to an "all archdiocese" chorus, about 100 voices from around NYC. We performed this same arrangement at Lincoln Center; I still can sing it, and get the same goosebumps!

As an atheist living in the United Kingdom, I salute the astounding brilliance of this choir of Christian persons. The voice control, the precision of the ensemble (very difficult with a choir as big as this) the intonation, to say nothing of the incredible audibility of the diction! every word and syllable beautifully pronounced, and moreover the commitment of this famous choir to the music they are singing..... either to the Lord or, in this case, their country. Thank you for posting this wonderful musical experience.

In my senior year of high school (very early 00’s), in senior choir, all the senior choirs from my state [district maybe?] got together in a stadium and sang this, along with some other really beautiful patriotic songs. It was the end of the senior year and our high school careers, so I dunno why but, I was so touched and feeling sentimental. When we sang this, I wept. Hearing it now, I weep. His truth will forever be marching on. Nobody feels this way anymore in our country and my heart and soul break because of it.
I have a cd of that entire performance somewhere. I’m gonna go through my things and find it! Thanks for inspiring me! ❤️

Yes and yes. The main difference is that the Catholics believe they are the authorized church of Jesus Christ since the time that Christ lived on earth until now, and the Mormons believe that there was an apostasy a few hundred years after the time of Christ, when all of the church leaders were killed, and God's authority was taken off of the earth. They believe Jesus Christ's church was then restored in the early 1800s in upstate New York, in the United States. The Mormons also unearthed another testament of Christ, in New York, that was a record of some of the people who left Jerusalem (and the Tower of Babel) and lived in America between about 2000 B.C. and 400 A.D. (not in chronological order, btw) called The Book of Mormon, hence the nick name Mormons. They use this book as a companion scripture to go with the Old and New Testament of Christ called the Bible. The real name of this church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so yes, they are Christians. The Mormons consider the Catholics to be welcome friends in the world of Christianity, and often give their charity through the Catholic charities, because the Catholic charities do such an awesome job of getting necessities to people who need them, in such an efficient way and time.

When I was 11 my primary school took part in a combined schools concert at Portsmouth (UK) guildhall. This was the last song we sang. When we had finished, to a rousing ovation, our conductor turned to the audience and said "you lot can do what you like, but we're going to sing that again", No-one left. It is still one of the best moments of my 58 years. Wish I still had my tambourine!

I so agree I feel emotional while listening to Mormon songs. Like when I made this cover for a friend of mine at the local Mormon Church in my town Trollhättan Sweden. I had a lot of questions and hesitated a lot before I made this cover. But while I was learning the lyrics I got all the answers I needed and converted to Mormon in 2014. I hope I made the song justice.

As a young boy, I grew up directly next to the largest Mormon Church in the Southern hemisphere. My house shared a fence with the church. On a warm summer day I would open windows .. just so I could hear them sing... no I am not a religious person. The church is situated in Australia, Southern suburbs of Sydney.

A true story! I was doing the all-night shift on KNAK, a Top 40 radio station in Salt Lake back in 1971. I played the "Battle Hymn" as an 'oldie'(#11 pop hit in 1959). I found out the next day that my station was the only one that had not been knocked off the air by a lightening storm during the night. Certainly got my attention!

There are many powerful words in this. Things like this need to be taught in all schools, especially PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Our great Nations history needs to be learned by all children so they know what our nation represents. Freedom is only one generation away from being lost. Our next generation and generations to come need to understand the significance. I think we are all learning a good lesson of that right now. God bless America! "His truth is marching on!"

Few know that this hymn is in fact a prayer to Father God for the country that He inspired our founders to risk all to establish. It is an incredibly difficult piece to sing with feeling AND precision. The MTC truly were inspired. Thank you from a believer of a different church, veteran, patron for this wonderful rendition.

The original lyric was about the abolitionist named John Brown:
John Brown's body lies a-mouldering in the grave,
      His soul's marching on.
      And,-
He's gone to be a soldier in the army of the Lord,
      His soul's marching on.
According to an 1890 account, the original John Brown lyrics were a collective effort by a group of Union soldiers who were referring both to the famous John Brown and also, humorously, to a Sergeant John Brown of their own battalion.
