Richter is not bad. I mean you have to visualized how to repair that staff cause magic work like this. He has probably a fine sense spatial thinking. So he is actually badass, when other say this is the ONLY in Town that can repair a staff doesn't matter how broken that is. Series only disappointment is the lifespan of Human life. Fern is probably the youngest First class mage.

She did not pass Frieren because Frieren is actually rather weak for an elf mage her age. Since she focused all her life on surpressing her mana and also just collects "useless" spells in Serie eyes she is not fit to be a first class mage. Which is not necessarily wrong.
If Frieren was a human then Serie would have passed her with flying colors since her level of magic would be very impressive.
For a 1000+ year old elf mage she is way below average. We as the viewer just think she is super awesome because we dont have any point of comparsion how advanced she SHOULD be at her age.
How about Kraft, the only other elf?
