The thing about the 1989 tour for me is that when I see the edits, yes she looks amazing, however I know how she was struggling to look as skinny as possible there,

YES! YES! YES! I have been saying this for YEARS! So relieved to FINALLY hear a commentary that gets it! No way the feud between Swift and Perry was about back-up dancers. It was absolutely about John Mayer. Right when Mayer was getting hit with a lot of backlash for his playing the victim of Taylor's "Dear John"...he and Perry created a type of response to the backlash with "Love who you love" in which Perry struck right at Taylor with the line "some have said his heart is hard to hold" in almost direct reference to Taylor's "Dear John". That is absolutely what birthed "Bad Blood".
Puh-lease as if drama over a back-up dancer is going to provoke a song and accompanying video like that of "Bad Blood". Nah. That was over a man.
And I know you wish many bad voodoo curses on Mayer, but trust me when I say he's received them. Some truly interesting pop culture drama to dive into is his post break-up with Perry. The guy pretty much became celebate and pined for Perry (even stalkerishly so) for years in a strange sort of self-punishment as if lost Perry in bad karma for how he treated Swift.
Perry crushed him. She practically made him impotent as he confessed to keeping her shampoo in the shower for when and if she'd ever return to him.
Out of the Woods and All too well have the best bridges and dear john is one of her all time best musically written songs. its a literal music piece.
Unpopular opinion: The Man is not the feminist slay people think it is. I’d argue it’s more regressive than progressive. If she was a man, she’d be the worst kind of man? What kind of message is this? Also, she infamously doesn’t recognize intersectionality with her feminism. She’s also at the top of the pecking order in her industry, so it’s inauthentic of her to speak on the misogyny she faces and not the misogyny faced by the average woman, women of color, trans women, etc. As a “feminist”, her feminism is really just self interest. Taylor Swift already is the man.
I get what ur saying but i feel like her intention wasn’t necessarily to imply that she wanted to be the worst kind of man, she was probably just using the worst kind of man as an example to show double standards in the way that she is perceived and the way that the worst kind of man is perceived in order to illustrate that men can get away with being horrible without judgement while she gets judged for every minor thing. It is true that society puts being the worst kind of man on a pedestal but that is society’s fault not hers specifically, so I think she was just using that as an example to show the double standards, not necessarily agreeing with it.

I think Taylor's problem is her constant need to relate things back to herself. It comes across as insulting sometimes. Like, sis, we all know you can't relate, you can admit it and still show some understanding and empathy. You do not need to relate to something in order to comprehend it, you just need to take the time to logically make sense of it

My unpopular opinion is that The Moment I Knew is more heart wrenching than All Too Well & Dear John.
Agree with mostly everything but especially the bit about her sometimes just needing to be quiet. I also apply this to her feminism.
For someone so passionate and good with words, when it comes to things that truly don't affect her, Taylor just doesn't have the poise. I know she is sympathetic and wants to try help because she's a good person, but she's also lived a privileged life where for a long time she didn't feel the need to even consider these issues. The fact that she thought Bad Blood was okay during her "feminist awakening" era says it all.
I feel personally attacked. Stay x3 is a bop, it's not my favourite song on Red, but it's grown on me. I agree about Everything Has Changed though. That being said, I respect opinions. I just happen to like the happy, perky fluff that's breathing room from how heavy, dark and sad Red is.
I can appreciate what you're saying about liking the happier songs after red being so sad, but I've always thought stay stay was super annoying. No hate I just think it's interesting to talk about different no hate I just think it's interesting to talk about different opinions. And yeah everything has changed is one of those songs that I really appreciate lyrically, but I've never been super into it. I skipped that song like 99.9% of times.

I feel like this channel is really helping me get a more healthy view on being a fan of Taylor and any artist tbh. I'm a fan of both Katy and Taylor and honestly yeah you're right, it was a dumb feud that Katy was in the right on, does that make me less of a fan for either of them? No. It's okay to like an artist that has made mistakes while acknowledging these mistakes. You don't have to approve or try to brush them off either, it's like being friends with a person
What’s even more disgusting about the Kaylor theories is that they aren’t even friends anymore, in fact, i’d argue that they are enemies.
I have to say, I don’t agree with shipping Taylor and Karlie, she was a horrible person in Taylor’s life. However looking at the real proof (directly from her music) I am 99% convinced they had something going on. I don’t engage with Kaylor posts much and barely come across them but if you look for the proof it’s all there.
Harassing Taylor into coming out will never be ok but it’s weird that a lot of the feedback Kaylors hear is “there’s no way it’s real” just because it’s two women when if this whole thing applied to one of Taylor’s guy friends they would 100% be convinced they had something and it would be ok to ship them.
Some of them are very much delusional and that’s why I don’t fall into that rabbit hole cause it can get really disrespectful or just outright lying to connect the dots where there aren’t any.
What's more disgusting is that I heard that Karlie even hung out with Scooter Braun. And yet so many swifties are still out there preaching that Kaylor can still happen and that "Hits Different" is about her

Love your take on ‘Kaylor’, that even if something did happen there, it’s rude af to pester Taylor to comment on it when she doesn’t want to- I’d never really thought about it that way. Fwiw I think she’s straight as an arrow.
Also agree 100% that people should stop pressuring her to comment on nuanced or political topics that have nothing to do with her art. After listening to your 2014 podcasts, I really feel that she was damned however she approached the topic of feminism. She was dragged for being silent, when she did speak up her feminism was too white and liberal, but I’d wager if she tried to speak to broader feminism she’d have slammed for speaking about things she doesn’t understand.
My unpopular opinion (that I certainly don’t share with Zach) is I’d love for her to have a kid, even if it reduces her output and we never see them. She strikes me as someone who always imagined herself being a mother since early interviews, and that’s a big dream for anyone to let go of. I’m a new Mum myself, so I’d genuinely love a song about her hypothetical baby.
I would say Taylor would be an awesome mother but at the same time I feel like she's still not mature enough. She had great character, great intelligence and effort to raise a kid but I feel like there's the same dilemma of her being a parent as being a feminist. She's been living in a bubble for a major part of her life that she's unaware of the real issues people face raising a kid in a normal world when she's Taylor Swift.
She not aware of the psychological perspective being raised in the spotlight can consider. She's not aware of the real damage living under a famous name can do to an infant. Her children will be living under the roof of what a non-famous life would be since they're accessed to everything they want and nothing they don't. Taylor herself has been sheltered for so long in her lifetime that she's just found hera grown-up version of herself in Folklore. They're never going to see above the surface because she's a beautiful, white, rich, lady whose always going to be super famous.

Out of interest, and feel free to decline to answer this, but do you have any kids of your own? The only reason I ask is I feel like literally no one (famous or otherwise) ever feels truly, 100% ready to start having kids. All you can be is more (or less) prepared. There’s just never going to be a convenient time to completely change your life forever. If you’re waiting to be completely and utterly ready, you might be waiting a very long time.
@@elenagerhardy2636 also people do change when they become parents. she wouldn't remain as "the taylor swift of present" because her whole life would be drastically different with a child to care for. her perspective would probably change. and when she was with joe for example, they kept things private. so clearly she's able to respect someone else's wishes to be more private. and while taylor herself might enjoy fame, she's also been in the spotlight a very long time, and knows the dark side of it all. i think she would want to protect her child from that. also (selfishly) IMAGINE THE SONGS WE'D GET

It's one of those songs that have like never listened to really. I think I've heard it maybe twice. But I think it was on the deluxe right? I have a bad habit of never listening to the deluxe albums. And I don't do it on purpose I just sort of forget that they exist. So like you are in love from 1989 deluxe.. I literally didn't listen to until last year.

When they gave her the stage to talk about graduation and prom during Covid..it was pretty cringe..I’m like oooooh no sis, missing graduation because you’re traveling the world first class with your mom and body guards is not the same as not graduating because of Covid 🥴 but I’m sure after this long in the lime light, she’s out of touch and I really don’t blame her for taking the chance to voice her opinion when asked to.
Yes, she's referring to her time when she sacrificed her simple prom and graduation in order to launch her dreams instead. Cause students who lost their last chance to see their class who are in a fatal situation and you may never see them again is the same as energy as leaving to go to meet in Paradise city...
As someone who graduated in 2020, I think it's a bad comparison but it's not as morbid as you're making it seem - for a lot of people covid just meant switching to an online cirruculam, and for people like me who were lucky enough to live in remote areas (we were one of the last places covid came too) it really wasn't that dangerous or dramatic for them.
P.s. before you call me insensitive or say I don't get, I actually got covid. I recovered, but it was terrifying so I'm not trying to minimize anything, I'm just offering a different perspective

I HAVE BEEN SAYING DEAR JOHN IS HER BEST WRITTEN SONG FOR AGESSSSSSS OHEMGEE (also Speak Now is my favorite album of hers --prior to folklore/evermore era).
Also i literally agree with EVERYTHING you've said on here. also i wonder...if you think reputation is better than lover? part of me really feels that way, like they're my two least favorite albums as well (even while I still love them least favorite meaning like on the spectrum of taylor being my fave) but yeah i'm with you when i first heard lover it...was NOT the sound for me. I think it felt really generic for most of it. My 3 songs off the album that I would rescue if the house were to burn down would be "cornelia street," "death by a thousand cuts," "you'll get better soon." Also i am a New Years Day Stan but I think that's because for me the first half of reputation and the second half are separate thematically and plotwise and i am a fan of the second half.
But overall yeah the folklore release was a really really really nice return to being able to stand behind the album as a whole which i feel like i hadn't been able to do since the 1989 era. (your 1989 skips and mine are the SAME also v.v. unpopular on my part but i will also add clean to that list....i KNOW i know but just the mixed-metaphors didn't work for me)

Like I’m soooo tired of these gaylors thinking every little thing she does means she is queer like no…the Kaylor situation, there’s no evidence that they were dating, and just like gaylors thinking that little “clues” in songs and messages is her trying to tell us she’s queer when no there not. People can interpret everything differently with her songs like songs, you can interpret a song gay but that doesn’t mean interpret that way when she wrote those songs, like dress and dwoht thinking it’s about karlie like NOO!!! and it’s just the fact that it’s so weird and creepy that gaylors just want to call her out and even if she is queer that’s very traumatizing to somebody that doesn’t want to come out just yet their sexuality is very personal and Gaylors just think it’s fun to think about oh she’s gay oh let’s point this out to her all this and that like no you’re overstepping your boundaries with that

I've always thought it was really disturbing to take people in real life or characters in media who have one sexual orientation and try to twist it to a different sexual orientation just to fit your fantasy of life. I think it's one of the reasons that so many people have a problem with the LGBT community. And I don't mean this hatefully. My father's homosexual. I've been down that road also. It's just if everyone stop trying to twist everything to being LGBT when it isn't the community would probably have more support.

Wish she was with Harry too but because she isn’t don’t care. Hate Lover. Love Dear John, it is superior to ATW. Lover & Reputation didn’t deserve Grammy nominations. Rep had some great bops like Getaway Car & I Did Something Bad but I truly think she should have embraced playing into her “ Reputation” at the time - those were the most iconic songs on the album. It took me years to even be able to fully listen to it (and I’ve been a fan since debut, lol). I had to literally FORCE myself to get through every track, and now I consider over half of the tracks to be skips lol
I just hated that entire era. The aesthetics, the sound, the political grandstanding that went nowhere? Awful.

I have to say... There are many of your opinions that I disagree with... However I appreciate that your unpopular opinions are actually unpopular opinions. There's so many unpopular opinion videos... On every topic... That are never actually unpopular. It's like it might not be the mainstream opinion but most of them are pretty reasonable to agree to. So I like that you actually have contrary opinions to the rest of us. I also really like how you articulate yourself and explain yourself. It's interesting to meet someone who's a die-hard Taylor Swift fan who has so many critiques and dislikes for her body of work.

I was like yep, yep, tea, spill until you said daylight was a skip, it’s actually one of my favorites on lover along with Cornelia street and cruel summer. Also don’t slam me for this but I think taylor only talks about feminism and gay right for white people and excludes the struggles of poc, trans people, and people who aren’t financially secure and I wish she would advocate for everyone yk. And although scooter is a money hungry and horrible person, I think her calling him a bully was a horrible thing to do and she knew the fans would attack him and it does add to the white victim hood trope if that makes sense. All in all, I absolutely love taylor and she is one of the best if not the best lyricist of our generation and I hope that any haters will come to their senses soon :)
Tbh i don't think it's taylor's place to talk about BLM or trans rights because she has no experience with those issues. She can support it but idk why people expect a huge speech when she's a white woman

And yes, I agree that LWYMMD and Ready for it? were definitely bad choices for singles. I’m the perfect example of someone who stopped there you know?! I didn’t listen to the rest of the album that year… actually I stopped listening to Taylor at all because I didn’t like these 2 songs very much. So I “missed” everything from lover (so basically I didn’t miss a thing hahahaha). And I only decided to listen to the whole Rep album this year… and well… I liked it a lot hahahaha.
I was the same. It was a difficult start and it took me a while to get through the album but I did, eventually. I LOVED IT, later!!! LOL
this is EXACTLY what happened with me!! i stopped listening to tay during that time as well because those songs were not ittttt and i assumed the rest of the album was the same. i actually now am a fan of a few from that album years later cuz folklore got me listening again. so interesting that we experienced nearly the exact same thing!

My guess with the merch thing is that with her record new deal, to be able to own her masters, she had to compensate in other ways. I’m sure the merch sales quota is hefty to alleviate the label’s loss of not owning the masters.
