I'm a Gen Z swiftie myself and I'm so glad you talked about the newer age of swifties because it's honestly so infuriating that Taylor is seen as this perfect goddess who makes perfect music. you can't even have an opinion anymore without being attacked which is why I enjoy your channel so much!
same and its so infuriating that you can't have a opinion without attacked and I really enjoyed this channel because i like the fact that he talks about her like a human and critic her but not in a hating way and not doing the whole "slay queen, you can never do anything wrong"
Omg yes. Sorry for replying THIS LATE but really, I agree with you so much. What I see is almost always "slay queen she ate this up no FR LIKE WHAT" And there's never any honest opinions. Even the ones with opinions that differ from the vast majority have to lie. Like, guys. The AMAs Speak Now hair with the gold tracksuit was weird. If you say anything like "cruel summer is slightly overrated" or "superman actually isn't the worst" you will be criticized and thrown at with perpetual darts like you're an offender in the medieval times. Like, have we become a cult? I can like whatever I want to like. I should be able to say anything normal without being called a 10 year old or a fake swiftie. It's kind of ridiculous.
@@catesinthecradle yes, exactly!! It's one of the most toxic fanbases for sure, there's no freedom of speech whatsoever because if you do voice your opinion, you're cancelled.
Unpopular opinion: I’m enjoying the re records but if a song is butchered (and most singles from Red Tv were butchered imo) , I’m going to listen to the original instead. At the end of the day everyone’s a millionaire in this situation except me
Agreed! Finally someone said it. I’ve been mostly listening to the originals cuz they just sound better and they’re more true to the actual time she was experiencing them
Willingness to think critically and have nuanced discussions are my biggest green flags when deciding which swiftie accounts to follow! Blind worship freaks me out, I’ve definitely had to be intentional in curating my swiftie content consumption. Also, nuance literally makes it MORE FUN! You can get so much deeper into a discussion than you could if you’re just screaming omg yaaaaaas all the time about your faves!
hi sorry to jump in but do you have any recommendations, i am out here struggling to find this kind of content anywhere else 😂 that’s why i love this channel so much but i literally feel like a stalker bc ive watched every video over the past couple weeks lmao
@@coolcat2424 on UA-cam I really love English Teacher KP, she’s not exclusively a swiftie account but she does poetry and lyric analyses and she’s done a TON of Taylor songs. She really digs into what makes her writing so great which I love. Sarah from Taylor Swift Style (not on UA-cam) is wonderful, the questions blog page of her tumblr is a lovely little community (critical kindness is one of her mottos she frames all of her content around!) you can also follow her on Instagram/Twitter etc. And for podcasts I’ve listened to all of evolution of a snake obviously! But also a fan of Holy Swift, and Be There In Five (the latter is not exclusively Taylor, but she has several episodes dedicated to her albums and talks about her a lot!)
Regarding the private jet issue as a person in the aviation industry, there are a few things I wish everyone who owns a private jet would do. First, is to calculate their carbon emissions and donate money to environmental organizations to counter the harmful pollution given off by their jet(s). Second, most planes built within the last 10-15 years can operate on what is known as SAF (sustainable aviation fuel). This type of fuel puts out about 80% less carbon emissions than normal jet fuel. Taylor might already have implemented both of these strategies but in my opinion it is more justifiable for someone to own a private plane if they are actually doing something about their emissions.
ooooh that's interesting. I think, as a private jet owner, it is your responsibility to prove to everyone else that you're doing it as responsibly as you can. so...taylor, wassup? lol
I think donating is always important, agreed. But the health of the environment cannot be bought. Our situation is bad and human kind will be dead soon... then her money will have no worth. Honestly, we shouldn't be relying on the common sense of celebrities, we need strict laws
@@vankr "human kind will be dead soon". oh wow. you really need to listen to some independent thinkers on this topic, instead of politicians. and if you truly understood the situation you'd know that China and India are the real problem and we can't make any laws to fix them. like this channel, find some independent channels who can discuss things with more balance. When i was a teenager in the 80s we were told we were going to be killed by nuclear bombs, and then global warming. Doomsday sells and every generation falls for it.
As an Italian swiftie, a Cruel Summer MV shot on the Amalfi coast would literally be the most fulfilling thing ever. It will never ever happen (like ever), but thank you for making me dream for a couple of seconds
I’m a gen-z swiftie (I’m fifteen, but became one in 2012), and i was only consuming other teen swifties on tiktok, but since discovering your channel you’ve helped me realize that I don’t have to love everything she does and can criticize her as well as acknowledge that she has flaws. It’s so refreshing hearing your takes and the fact that you don’t have to prance around the fact that you sometimes don’t like certain things that she does. Keep up the fantastic work and I love your videos!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHO I AM! I am 15, became a real swiftie after Red came out in 2012(My mom was already a swiftie since debut and was always listening to Taylor, but my liking of her and her music really intensified after Red), and I was starting to listen to the toxic younger TikTok swifties. It wasn’t my best moment. Anyways, I started watching swiftologist and my life changed for the better 😌
@@theswiftologist The song just embodies the feeling of letting go. The somber harmonies and cunning lyrics create this melancholy masterpiece that tells a story of the brink of a breakup, and learning how to end a chapter.
Finally someone else (besides Swiftologist) who understands why I'm obsessed with TLT since it came out 🥺 Tbh TLT needs to be on Louvre bc it's such a masterpiece, and it's so sad many ppl can't understand how powerful this song is
Unpopular opinion: I’m much more excited for a TS10 than literally any of the remaining re-records🤷🏻♂️ I much prefer her sophistication and maturity of her music present day vs the music she created in previous eras. Record them to get the bag and own the masters, but give me the Folklevermore type genius
Not really an “unpopular” opinion but I couldn’t care less about Taylor’s success on the charts / single choices / how well her album is doing. I want to be enveloped in the art - I’m a fan, not her manager and I think the Swifties (particularly on twitter) who genuinely go ballistic over pushing her music to #1 are doing the most. Also another unpopular opinion but ATW music video was okay. Not spectacular or noteworthy tbh, and I’m worried that the song is going to be ruined for me because of how much she’s continuing to push it/the mv (VMAs etc) almost a year after she released Red TV.
Also I’ve been listening to your podcast this summer and I am LIVING for your detailed opinions and analysis. No tea no shade to other UA-cam swifties but there’s very little intelligent commentary about her art and it’s great to see a UA-camr going into the particulars of it and actually breaking it down in such meticulous detail without the usual “omg slayyyy queen” filler talk. Write an academic paper lol!!
I agree about the chart success, the art is much more important and I kinda would love her to dig deeper into that like she did with evermore and folklore where we didn't really mind the charts. And I used to agree about the video of ATW, I didn't really saw the breathtaking thing that everyone was gasping around, but I got my heart broken recently lol and, from this new perspective, the details really make the short film, they make it resonate with the audience. Also the acting is beautiful. This was so long I'm sorry, but I really enjoyed this space for diverse opinions about swiftie issues.
I am almost 19 and I totally agree w what you said! People refuse to even say one “bad” thing about her for fear of getting canceled, like babes construction criticism says hi
There should be like a private airline. Like where only celebrities that would be able to afford it and be verified for it could ride. It would probably make relevant stops if they submit where they are trying to go in advance or something. I don't want Taylor to get mobbed but also down with the pollution.
I think this is a great compromise. It's something beyond first class. Plus it would give celebrities another chance to mingle, make new friends and maybe decide to collaborate.
Unpopular opinion: I love epiphany. Im medical student and I was in hospital during covid and I listened epiphany every day then. I thought people would love it as well but they dont. Who cares its still in my top 10 from TS.
I think it's because it just doesn't but if you haven't lived in that environment. That songs gets me every time, but it's because I worked in health care for years and it's really that heavy if you're actually taking it seriously. I think layman just can't relate unless they've been through something similar or are fairly empathetic.
I not only love epiphany, but also think folklore wouldn’t be the masterpiece it is without it, and it might not even have been able to win album of the year without it. That song encapsulates such a powerful metaphor, whoever doesn’t like it simply didn’t get it
2 роки тому+4
This is song is a mature song. It's a masterpiece. So powerful and reflective of the cruel reality of the world but without losing a perspective on empathy. I've never worked on healthcare in my live, but when I listen to it, I feel like I have. That's the gift of a powerful song.
Unpopular opinion: I get she doesn’t want to be in the spotlight anymore BUT girl NEEDS to start doing the bare minimum in terms of promo. Like pls-the bare minimum
im a gen z swiftie (18) and i literally left twitter because i just couldnt take the gen z twitter stan environment (as the iconic youtuber mike's mic once said, my thrive points were negative) they are literally SO STRESSED about literally anything, they live like taylor is about to come back any moment like it's some sort of jesus at the end of times and they are so so so bad at communicating and they defend taylor's songs like their firstborns i hate twitter tbh
definitely agree about the og red era being painful for her in retrospect. I remember last year she said that during the og red era she had to take breaks during interviews to cry so thats probably lingering with her throughout the Red TV era
I couldn’t agree more about 2014 being the best year to be a Taylor fan. I was 22, living in my own condo for the first time & everything swift (but especially red & 1989) was just the perfect soundtrack for that time in my life.
I've basically binged this entire channel and I have to say, the nuance and willingness to give an honest critique to our queen is REFRESHING. So many fans defend every song and every action Taylor has ever taken like their lives depend on it and it's so tired. It makes our fandom look so bad. Taylor is beyond incredible in so many ways but no one's perfect.
Unpopular opinion: the only reason she’s not doing the re-recordings this year or extremely quiet in terms of TS10 is because of the new Billboard rule regarding preorders for vinyls with album sales. Folklore, Evermore, Fearless TV and Red TV were all able to have vinyl preorders count towards first week sales even though they were only preorders, helping her first week sales. Now that the rule changed to being that it has to be physically in hand ready to purchase, and the fact vinyls are now taking 8 months, sometimes more, to press; her momentum has to slow down. She clearly cares about vinyl sales or she wouldn’t have made 8 different folklore vinyls when she was changing genre and didn’t know how the public were going to respond to it.
@@theswiftologist the way we talked about her caring about vinyl preorders for her next era and then 13 hours later she announced TS10 and it’s vinyl preorder😭❤️
Your brutal honesty is the one of reason why i love your content so soo much. I really hate idolizing and perfecting Taylor too much. I know that she’s an amazing and a hard working woman. But i think some fans just forgot that she’s still human like rest of us.
I really love how you look at Taylor critically, it makes your content far more interesting than if EVERYTHING you said was completely 100 pc Taylor is amazing! Keep up the amazing videos xo
Couldn’t agree with you more about The Last Time. It’s one of the few songs I could listen to on a loop. I should have asked what your favorite thing about living in Singapore is. I know absolutely nothing about the culture/economic structure.
i’m older gen z and i can see the difference with younger, newer fans. they’re stubborn over the smallest of things. just a few days ago i saw one on tiktok saying that taylor used to invite fans to her 4th of july parties like the secret sessions. i said that has never happened and they got mad at me and started being rude lol then i looked at their acc and their bio said 14 like they barely had a consciousness when these parties were happening. and i see all the time edited text posts from taylor’s tumblr and they genuinely believe taylor would say something that’s so obviously edited. it’s like they’re trying to change the past when they literally weren’t there lmao
Hot Take: I forgot that you existed is a fantastic bridge in between Reputation and Lover. It’s that lingering of upsetness followed with her letting go, but not being entirely there yet. It’s a nice song to vibe too also.
As a new, Gen Z swiftie, it's tough out here lmao I just can't tolerate the stans from tiktok and twitter who operate with objectiveness. Like? It's literally music, how are you going to berate me for not liking one of the 'underrated' songs? The blind worshipping really gets on my nerves. I love Taylor, I look upto her and her music sm, but that doesn't mean everything she does or doesn't do is perfect. I love this channel because of how you humanise Taylor for me, and go deeper and nuanced in most discussions! It clearly comes across as coming from a place of love and respect so idk what those brainless tiktokers are going on about.
ALSO i completely agree with you about The Last Time! It captured my attention the very first time I listened to it. I think it's very similar to Exile in the way that this 'argument' that they have in the song is not the first. It is signalling the doom of their relationship and the female character has been consistently trying throughout the course of the relationship to keep it afloat, thus she is tired and her voice is feeble. The male counterpart, however is finally realising the damage that has been caused and is therefore putting much more effort into 'saving' this relationship than to the relationship itself. Hence the loud, pleading tone.
real like what happened to fuck capitalism? taylor shouldn’t be a billionaire. she could do so much but she just hoards her wealth. WHY ISNT SHE TALKING ABOUT ANA??
i completely agree abt the no room for criticism thing. at first when i joined the fandom i was def blindly worshipping her but come to think of it, she's a human who makes mistakes just like us and has flaws. and im a pretty young swiftie (youngest year of gen z/ middle school) although im definitely extremely obsessed with her, we all need to look at everything she does, not just the good. im so glad i found your channel bc you view her critically, which has helped me see some of the not so amazing things she does
I stayed in your personal Q&A and I got one thing to say… YOU’RE SO INTERESTING. You are very charming and I could spend forever listening and watching your videos. At first I thought I loved your videos because of Taylor Swift, but now I KNOW that if you make a personal channel with vlogs and stuff, I could also spend my whole day watching those videos. Love youuu!!!
Rumor has it that she wrote over 100 tracks for 1989. So she has plenty of vault songs for this one. Some people speculated about a double album. Reputation had a title track called Reputation but it was never released, so I'm definitely interested in this one.
I really appreciate the fact that you don’t love every single little thing Taylor does and give constructive criticism. A breath of fresh air on social media in general. I agree with you that there seems to be almost no in-between.
I love your channel and podcast because you speak almost academically (well all the fun bits about academia) about Taylor and her role in pop culture. I wrote an essay about her as an artist as part of my degree and I'm also a 1996 baby. I have no idea of the TikTok / Gen Z Taylor fan culture you speak of (because I'm old) but it does just sound super young. I think the fandom culture of generation when we were teens, early internet culture days, is so fascinating in itself and Taylor is such an interesting artist that she's so interesting to talk about. I appreciate your content, your age and your perspective and some of your "roasts" are just hilarious so thank you. Please keep going. (And dying for more podcasts, literally anything, even if you can't manage 2016)
1996 baby hive !!! thank you so much emily, hopefully we'll have more pod content soon (I have a feeling we'll be doing some other things before 2016 is realised)
i think by academic you mean analytical? academia is too boring, this has all the introspective thoughts and thorough research without the starched format
The Last Time is a mature version of We Are Never Getting Back Together kind of. I Almost Do, SBT, ATW, and TLT feel like Taylor's real reflections on her relationship with Jake.
Hey - really great video - but I just wanted to comment on how much I love your channel. You deserve much more recognition because there is so much thought and intelligence packed into each and every one of your videos and thank you so much for offering such a different space in the Swiftie universe.
You have been a beacon of light for me in swiftie content. '98 born here, sooo also millenial/gen z cusp and i relate 100% to your opinions here. I loooooove discussing pop culture at large and the way you do it so detailed and nuanced and thought out with Taylor is brilliant. It's also pretty uncanny how our favs and preferences of Taylor's music line up too- maybe it really is a generational thing lol
not us getting fed with three videos in under two weeks!! im also not on tik tok because its brain rotting and i always find your perspective so refreshing. this must have taken so much effort to organize and film and be vulnerable so thank you for taking the time to do it
Kudos to you! Writer here as well & working at my first poetry collection. I enjoy your content because it's one of the most reliable swift channels. You had me at Mirrorball.
I really love the constructive criticism you bring to the table! It gets me to think about my own opinions on music and it's shifting how I view the quality of the music that I listen to. I think you are really well spoken and I could listen to you for hours, because even though I don't fully agree with you on all of your opinions, I'm still interested in hearing how you feel! Thank you for bringing us a refreshing take on music and Taylor Swift
I'll be truthfully honest at first I was surprised by how you analysed and discussed Taylor in a more criticising way and thought it was it a bit harsh but after watching a few more of you videos I came to realise how honest you were and now I completely agree with what you say. I fitted into that kind of '"supporting everything she did" category but your videos have entirely altered my perspective. I obviously still love her and support her but I can also see where she went wrong and made mistakes and how she's not perfect. So I just wanted to say thank you for having the guts and confidence to upload this content because I cant even imagine how much criticism you receive on each video. Love how you take everything into account and dont just solely fangirl over everything she does but instead point out the wrongs and where she could've done better.
I love your content, Zach. I've only just recently discovered your material, but it really helps me on my long drives between jobs. We may not agree all the time but I always appreciate your perspective and learn a new angle from it ❤
What I love about your channel is that you give a fair view a lot of the times. (I'm 19) We love Taylor, but we don't have to blindly love everything she do or don't do. Constructive criticism/discussion is good for her, we aren't yelling at her for unreasonable things 🥲
I enjoy the TS commentary but certainly watch also because of your general style and approach. Great to hear of your writing poetry and fiction. I feel you've a very distinctive voice, a lot of originality and a gift for keeping things interesting.
The last time has to the most underappreciated song ever and it gets even better in red(tv) and still gets overshadowed by every other genius thing Red is!! You can do a video on the biggest female popstars and their relevance with reference to Taylor. And are we getting a surprise vmas22 video with Taylor making her 4th appearance this year and actually slaying.
i miss 2014 so much - just getting new outfits and content almost every single day is insane to think about now. it was also when a lot of people who hated taylor got over themselves and it wasn't like we were on the front line anymore lol.
Genuine question: I’ve seen a lot of people say the TV versions of songs are as good or better than the originals. But I also see people say the main singles TV were terrible. I can hear a slight difference, but I honestly don’t see how they’re different enough to hate another. I prefer the newer versions of most songs so far, and when I listen to IKYWT and 22, I hear some difference, but it’s so slight that I still enjoy the song just as much. Am I missing something?? I feel like I’m not hearing what others are able to hear.
i don’t think it’s that important though since it’s a re-record, and tbh we’re gonna be waiting along time for 1989 cos of the shake it off trial so at least we can hear some songs
What if 1989 TV was supposed to be out by now and they were supposed to be more lika promo. Shake it off process delayed the album release, but the contracts were signed a while ago so she has no choice but let the movies use it.
I agree. I don’t think 1989 is getting the respect it deserves from the fandom. Nothing against Lover and Rep, but people saying either of those 2 are the best Taylor pop album… please. But I think most people are just so grateful for any crumbs at this point that that feeling is overshadowing the overall narrative. And a big part of Taylor owning her own songs is that she can sign them off to be part of film and TV projects, so I don’t begrudge her these choices.
@@elenagerhardy2636 tbh i think ppl just say rep and lover are her best pop albums cos of how successful 1989 was, like they wanna be different but 1989 is the best
We need a Lana Del Ray pop culture influence analysis, pretty please! I was so excited to hear that you want to cover more varied topics on your channel 🤗 One question though, if your parents are Irish and you've been living in Singapore most of your life, how come you speak with this perfect American accent??
youre so right for criticizing her like to me, loving an artist is loving their work warts and all and acknowledging when they mess up. its always a fine line with critique and just hating for no reason, but i do appreciate your honesty considering how long youve been a fan
@@vvieites001 this!! 1989 is fun and when there’s a t swift themed clubnight it’s what i want to hear, but other than that i don’t really listen to it. it’s true party music but if i want to zone in to the music and really listen then i’d just get bored
As an actual older millennial (unpopular opinion) swiftie, I really appreciate your honesty and I’ve enjoyed your content. Even the parts I disagree with. I enjoy seeing your true passion, intelligence and candid happiness. I also really appreciate what makes you a true fan. THE MUSIC. It’s great seeing another person a little closer to my age appreciate her and you get it. You’ve been there! We saw it. We were actually there! I hear you. I feel you! You look great in natural light, btw!
I'm a brand new Gen-X Swiftie at the age of 57 LOL! I love your channel and your honest discourse. She is a truly wonderful, perfectly flawed person. I don't know when any of her albums came out, and really only know the words to ATW (heh, I used a Swiftie acronym), but I think the world is a much better place with her in it. ❤
This is compelling stuff and yes to the critical and nuanced discussion about these materials. As the prof teaching the TS as literature class at UT, I am trying to cultivate these conversations about her "art" and its relation to past literary texts and strategies (not leaving *all* meaning to the moment it was created). I think these songs are going to survive her immediate "present" and maybe ours too. Thanks for this.
Love all your content! Swift and other topics. You are intellectual and take random topics and make them interesting. You also have the ability to make serious topics light and fun to talk about. Keep doing you, I’ll be watching 🫣
I appreciate that you’re making a space for us who love her music and some parts of her but also have issues with some things. Fans who worship her every move are not my jam
2009 - fearless era was it for me. I was listening to fearless during a particularly difficult time (Taylor was 19, I was 18). She toured her fearless concert in aus and I was able to go, which at the time I didn't appreciate as much as I should have. If I had to say my fav era it would be now tbh, but that OG era is special. It might be the only time I see her in concert. There was something special about knowing how great she was at the beginning before everyone and their cat had figured it out.
nuance is so important with being a fan of something/someone. i love your account for that exact reason. i agree with you about 2014, it was such a golden era and i loved being a swiftie then!
I definitely feel like there's an actual reason for the hold up with the re-records. I feel like she has a very specific plan in place for how she wants to do it and she has everything ready to go for the next one but she can't do anything right now. Is it true that there is supposedly 150 songs written around 1989 time that could potentially make up the vault for it or is that just a myth? I personally feel like she probably wrote some more personal, sad, heartbroken songs for 1989 she chose not to include because it ultimately didn't fit the narrative she wanted to tell with that album so I'm not convinced the vault will be shite, I think it could potentially have some decent stuff. Also curious because you're a writer if you're into Phoebe Bridgers? Her songwriting is so insanely layered and cool, being heartbreaking, visual but also funny. If you have already I feel dumb but just made me think because you would likely appreciate her writing talent. Great video, loved hearing more about you!
@@theswiftologist aw thanks, I always make sure to watch asap because you're literally the best Swiftie on YT! Yes Moon Song is by far her best song but they're all honestly great. I Know The End and Funeral make me cry so much. And I came here right after we found out about Midnights! Omg! What a time, we are getting TS10!
2014 indeed! i honestly consider myself lucky as a millennial to have been born just a few months away from taylor because she didn't only have an impact on pop culture and music but my personal journey as well whenever she was at a stage in her life i found her experience so relatable. When she turn 22 and 33 i was feeling it just the same and relating to someone from my own generation meant so much to me.
Your channel is very objective and honest... as you said you’ve witnessed her rise and downfall and the resurrection with reputation album (LOVED IT) and Folklore (My favourite) ... subscribed
Im a Generation Z swiftie but I totally agree with you on what you said about most gen z swifties! They just can’t accept that no one - not even Taylor swift - is perfect!!
Great video as always! I came for the Swift info but I stayed for your insight, and I’m going to follow wherever your channel goes. (Although it physically pains me everyday you slander my favorite T Swift song “I Know Places”). I agree with most of your opinions and find that fellow gen z Swifties are annoying. Nobody is willing to admit that she does anything wrong- they are so focused on getting a notice that they ignore her sometimes very wrong and impactful missteps Thanks for creating this space, good luck with your channel and your career, I am very interested to see what you write in future!
My take on the Gaylor one: Even if it's true, it would mean she's in the closet. So, I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate people outing her by conspiracies
responding to the "I hope you guys come for my personality": for sure! I followed taylor's work for almost 10 years now, and I was always "up her ass" but I never identified with the community because I felt like there was no nuance when it came to opinions about her/what she does as a person (mostly when it comes to her being a huge capitalist). but somehow your channel was suggested and I do enjoy it a lot! I think it boils down to the fact that you seem tridimensional, you're able to pass that through the videos - your persona does not revolve around taylor, and that's noticeable because your opinions aren’t always in her favor. So yeah, im interested in watching your opinions on other topics. plus you have a dry sense of humour and i just enjoy listen to you talk about wtv
The virgin suicides and the bling ring are both amazing movies I’ve watched them both a few times! Love that we have more similar interests than just Taylor, glad I found your channel! :)
I think Taylor being inactive in social media is a very good tactic for her marketing. Because when she does post something, fans know that something is coming. And it's like a start point for new era. If Taylor is doing something in media, that means she is promoting something, even if you don't know what Ps :I don't really liaten to Bryan Adams but his album for the animation movie 'spirit' was something else. I think he and hams zimmer worker on it, it was phenomenal
thank you so much for your comment on the situatuation regarding the whole private jet thing, you worded it perfectly and i couldn't agree more!! it sucks to know taylor is harming the environment so much & i love her which makes it even worse. i had been feeling super confused and stuck on the whole thing, so thank you for speaking up about it. it's super important!!
you are so articulate and enjoyable to listen to!!! i love listening to your thoughts on things because they are always so well thought out - keep doing what you are doing!
I subscribed to NYT just so I could read that column. I love it so much! What’s your favorite story? Also, I look forward to reading your works in the future! Thanks for sharing! 💕
aw thanks dani! I can't think of my fave off the top of my head, but I like the ones with unexpected/unhappy endings...I also loved the television adaptation (s1) as well!
From what I remember (I was 20 or 21 when it came out and first heard taylor), Teardrops WAS the lead single. It was the one that really got her on the radio, etc..
Ah Didion is my favorite as well (Slouching Towards Bethlehem is my personal fave)! My therapist literally texted me when she died to see if I was OK lol
I think you should do more personal q and a and just talk about random other things that are connected to pop music!! You sound very smart and I like the way you view the world
About the jet thing, even if its true that she lets other people use her jet, that isnt any better, thats still her plane and shes still responsible by the waste that it creates, even if its not her on the plane.
hmm, I would say that we aren't on her level, or understanding how she works. I have no issue with the plane thing, she needs the privacy and space for herself and her team. period. Now Prince Harry taking a private jet to play polo is another thing entirely..... I am quietly terrified Taylor will become friends with Meghan and go super woke.
@@brunetteXer How come Taylor using a jet when she could easily use a car or fly commercial (literaly minutes long fligts) is better than Harry and Meghan doing the same? They both receive harrasment and threats all the time so under your logic they are both right. Do M&h not deserve privacy for themselve, their family and team? We dont know how they work either nor are we on their level so why is it so wrong when they do it but fine when Taylor does it? In my opinion they are all horrible for it. If other public figures of their same level of fame can fly commercial, then so can everyone else, Taylor included
something i appreciate about your content and discussions is your critical eye. personally, i always look at the media i consume critically as a way to understand the world and more about myself and what works vs what doesnt and why. im not interested in taylor discussion thats just "oh my god shes so amazing and perfect", im more interested in analyzing her art, songwriting, and how she handles the press and her business. taylor is an incredibly smart and mature woman, i think that she would enjoy seeing fans understand at her art in a deeper way.
Personally I think you should first expand into lana del Rey analysis. A lot of swifties also like lana so it would expand your channel content without alienating the established subscribers. Afterwards you can expand into other artists and than general pop culture. It should be gradual like Taylor's transition from Disney princess to feminist girlboss was.
Love the commentary on the Oscars and Grammy nominations. You put into words what I’ve sort of wondered about for years now 😅 and for sure, give her Award Items, sounds good haha
The Last Time was my fav song when i was in middle school and öy english level was A1. That song broke through the lang barrier and still made me feel real emotions
compared to other swifties, I’m glad you aren’t afraid to declare what you like about Taylor and what you don’t. For example the private jet. Which I agree with btw. Just because you have money doesn’t mean you should be using it countless of times especially when it’s horrible to the environment. Can’t wait for more videos!
I'm a Gen Z swiftie myself and I'm so glad you talked about the newer age of swifties because it's honestly so infuriating that Taylor is seen as this perfect goddess who makes perfect music. you can't even have an opinion anymore without being attacked which is why I enjoy your channel so much!
we need more nuance.....but clearly there is still some, bc this comment section is full of it!!
same and its so infuriating that you can't have a opinion without attacked and I really enjoyed this channel because i like the fact that he talks about her like a human and critic her but not in a hating way and not doing the whole "slay queen, you can never do anything wrong"
@@haunted.1315 exactly 👏🏻

Unpopular opinion: I’m enjoying the re records but if a song is butchered (and most singles from Red Tv were butchered imo) , I’m going to listen to the original instead. At the end of the day everyone’s a millionaire in this situation except me
i have to agree. for me, most of the red tv singles are iffy to me :-(( the only one i prefer over the stolen version is the rerecording of "red".
Period. If the taylor's versions quality is worse, I'm 100% listening to the original. I could care less if she doesn't get my money

THE LAST TIME IS SO RIDICULOUSLY UNDERRATED. The harmonies (at least on the original) are perfect.

It wasn’t my best moment. Anyways, I started watching swiftologist and my life changed for the better 😌

Finally someone understands my obsession with “the last time” it’s a MASTERPIECE

@@theswiftologist The song just embodies the feeling of letting go. The somber harmonies and cunning lyrics create this melancholy masterpiece that tells a story of the brink of a breakup, and learning how to end a chapter.
Finally someone else (besides Swiftologist) who understands why I'm obsessed with TLT since it came out 🥺
Tbh TLT needs to be on Louvre bc it's such a masterpiece, and it's so sad many ppl can't understand how powerful this song is
Exactly! It's so good
Unpopular opinion: I’m much more excited for a TS10 than literally any of the remaining re-records🤷🏻♂️ I much prefer her sophistication and maturity of her music present day vs the music she created in previous eras. Record them to get the bag and own the masters, but give me the Folklevermore type genius
that's super interesting!
Unpopolar opinion: Red Original is better than TV. While I am excited for 1989, I would also prefer new music over rerecordings.
Yes!!!!
This aged EXTREMELY well 🤩🤩
The way this aged like milk and wine at* the same time.
AGREEEED I CAN GIVE two fucks about chart success
People refuse to even say one “bad” thing about her for fear of getting canceled, like babes construction criticism says hi
and some people just cant see that....
I love epiphany too it is one of my favorite songs from her ❤❤
I think it's because it just doesn't but if you haven't lived in that environment.
That song encapsulates such a powerful metaphor, whoever doesn’t like it simply didn’t get it
This is song is a mature song. It's a masterpiece. So powerful and reflective of the cruel reality of the world but without losing a perspective on empathy. I've never worked on healthcare in my live, but when I listen to it, I feel like I have. That's the gift of a powerful song.
SAME I get why people think it’s boring but I love songs that sound like that and lyrics are so good 🙏 like “hold your hand through plastic now” 😭😭

You are right 2014 truly was the best time to be a swiftie. I miss all the cute Instagram posts she used to do around then
definitely agree about the og red era being painful for her in retrospect. I remember last year she said that during the og red era she had to take breaks during interviews to cry so thats probably lingering with her throughout the Red TV era
literally broke my heart when she said how painful it was
I couldn’t agree more about 2014 being the best year to be a Taylor fan.
She clearly cares about vinyl sales or she wouldn’t have made 8 different folklore vinyls when she was changing genre and didn’t know how the public were going to respond to it.
the way I brought this up and cut it out of the video bc it was too long dskjfnsdkjfdjf
@@theswiftologist the way we talked about her caring about vinyl preorders for her next era and then 13 hours later she announced TS10 and it’s vinyl preorder😭❤️

Couldn’t agree with you more about The Last Time. It’s one of the few songs I could listen to on a loop. I should have asked what your favorite thing about living in Singapore is. I know absolutely nothing about the culture/economic structure.
I'll do another q&a in the future and I'll make a note to answer this!!
i’m older gen z and i can see the difference with younger, newer fans. they’re stubborn over the smallest of things. just a few days ago i saw one on tiktok saying that taylor used to invite fans to her 4th of july parties like the secret sessions. i said that has never happened and they got mad at me and started being rude lol then i looked at their acc and their bio said 14 like they barely had a consciousness when these parties were happening. and i see all the time edited text posts from taylor’s tumblr and they genuinely believe taylor would say something that’s so obviously edited. it’s like they’re trying to change the past when they literally weren’t there lmao
yesss context is key!
The validation of the Last Time appreciation after it being Ignored by everyone is great. My personal favorite off of Red.
me too! that song is sooo good.
Hot Take: I forgot that you existed is a fantastic bridge in between Reputation and Lover. It’s that lingering of upsetness followed with her letting go, but not being entirely there yet. It’s a nice song to vibe too also.
As a new, Gen Z swiftie, it's tough out here lmao
I just can't tolerate the stans from tiktok and twitter who operate with objectiveness.
@@nishitaa. so well said, The Last Time and Exile are like sister songs, and were immediate faves.

i completely agree abt the no room for criticism thing. at first when i joined the fandom i was def blindly worshipping her but come to think of it, she's a human who makes mistakes just like us and has flaws. and im a pretty young swiftie (youngest year of gen z/ middle school) although im definitely extremely obsessed with her, we all need to look at everything she does, not just the good. im so glad i found your channel bc you view her critically, which has helped me see some of the not so amazing things she does

Please keep going. i think by academic you mean analytical? academia is too boring, this has all the introspective thoughts and thorough research without the starched format
The Last Time is a mature version of We Are Never Getting Back Together kind of. I Almost Do, SBT, ATW, and TLT feel like Taylor's real reflections on her relationship with Jake.
Idk it’s too much like Snow Patrol’s “Set The Fire to the Third Bar” imo. Felt kinda derivative

I'll be truthfully honest at first I was surprised by how you analysed and discussed Taylor in a more criticising way and thought it was it a bit harsh but after watching a few more of you videos I came to realise how honest you were and now I completely agree with what you say. I fitted into that kind of '"supporting everything she did" category but your videos have entirely altered my perspective. i miss 2014 so much - just getting new outfits and content almost every single day is insane to think about now. it was also when a lot of people who hated taylor got over themselves and it wasn't like we were on the front line anymore lol.
Unpopular Opinion: All of the random 1989 tv songs in films are not good and are taking away from the whole album.
i don’t think it’s that important though since it’s a re-record, and tbh we’re gonna be waiting along time for 1989 cos of the shake it off trial so at least we can hear some songs

2014 was the best year evvvveerrrr!! thank u for watching
Great video, loved hearing more about you!
hey francesca, always love seeing you in the comments
Nobody is willing to admit that she does anything wrong- they are so focused on getting a notice that they ignore her sometimes very wrong and impactful missteps Thanks for creating this space, good luck with your channel and your career, I am very interested to see what you write in future!
aw thanks jocelyn! I'd say I'll try to keep the I know places slander to a minimum....but we all know I be running my mouth 24/7 LOL
@@theswiftologist 🤣 you know what they say… “you must like me for me”
My take on the Gaylor one: Even if it's true, it would mean she's in the closet.
So yeah, im interested in watching your opinions on other topics. plus you have a dry sense of humour and i just enjoy listen to you talk about wtv
andre thank you so much for taking the time to write this! it's so kind and encouraging, glad you're sticking around for the ride~
The virgin suicides and the bling ring are both amazing movies I’ve watched them both a few times! Love that we have more similar interests than just Taylor, glad I found your channel! :)
I found your channel yesterday. I'm thank ful to have a channel tackles alot about Taylor Swift. Of course, I subscribed because I love Taylor!!
thanks for watching!
Unpopular Opinion: Reputation album/tour aren't her best work or era.
Love the Reputation era but I also love Speak Now era. Yet, I think Speak now is better than Reputation as albums
Agreed.
the last fucking time is the holy grail of all duets
AGREEEE
I think Taylor being inactive in social media is a very good tactic for her marketing. Because when she does post something, fans know that something is coming. And it's like a start point for new era. If Taylor is doing something in media, that means she is promoting something, even if you don't know what
Ps :I don't really liaten to Bryan Adams but his album for the animation movie 'spirit' was something else. I think he and hams zimmer worker on it, it was phenomenal
I am so glad there are Swifties like you, as someone who is not a Swifties, I get attacked by simply having kindly phrased criticism.
thank you so much for your comment on the situatuation regarding the whole private jet thing, you worded it perfectly and i couldn't agree more!! it sucks to know taylor is harming the environment so much & i love her which makes it even worse. i had been feeling super confused and stuck on the whole thing, so thank you for speaking up about it. it's super important!!
you are so articulate and enjoyable to listen to!!! i love listening to your thoughts on things because they are always so well thought out - keep doing what you are doing!
It wasn’t tho
(pases video to look up "The Last Time") I fully get it. That is a gorgeous song.
Ah Didion is my favorite as well (Slouching Towards Bethlehem is my personal fave)! My therapist literally texted me when she died to see if I was OK lol
she's so great!! I was devastated when she died too :(
Omg another I Bet On Losing Dogs stan! That is one of my top played songs the last 6 months. So good.
IIIIIII BET ON LOSSINNNNNGGGG DOOOOGGGSSS
@@theswiftologist I know they're losing and I pay for my place, by the ring 😭😭😭
I think you should do more personal q and a and just talk about random other things that are connected to pop music!! You sound very smart and I like the way you view the world
About the jet thing, even if its true that she lets other people use her jet, that isnt any better, thats still her plane and shes still responsible by the waste that it creates, even if its not her on the plane.
hard agree
hmm, I would say that we aren't on her level, or understanding how she works.
If other public figures of their same level of fame can fly commercial, then so can everyone else, Taylor included
something i appreciate about your content and discussions is your critical eye. personally, i always look at the media i consume critically as a way to understand the world and more about myself and what works vs what doesnt and why. im not interested in taylor discussion thats just "oh my god shes so amazing and perfect", im more interested in analyzing her art, songwriting, and how she handles the press and her business. taylor is an incredibly smart and mature woman, i think that she would enjoy seeing fans understand at her art in a deeper way.
thank you I really appreciate this comment!
Personally I think you should first expand into lana del Rey analysis. A lot of swifties also like lana so it would expand your channel content without alienating the established subscribers. Afterwards you can expand into other artists and than general pop culture. It should be gradual like Taylor's transition from Disney princess to feminist girlboss was.
ooh nice idea!
This video was amazing. I really respect and agree with your opinions!! Your channel is *chefs kiss*
thanks ally
Zach missed the premier. Thanks for this 🧡
Taylor should get a private dirigible. Yes airships are slow, but they are way more energy efficient. And it would also be super hilarious.
Thank you for speaking on the taylors version things, Like i LOOOOOVE new romantics but i physically cant listen to the tv one its just off to me
compared to other swifties, I’m glad you aren’t afraid to declare what you like about Taylor and what you don’t. For example the private jet. Which I agree with btw. Just because you have money doesn’t mean you should be using it countless of times especially when it’s horrible to the environment. Can’t wait for more videos!
