I’m not sure if it’s coincidence, but the logo on the damper body of DVO topaz shocks is suspiciously close to 30% sag. It’s close enough that I don’t bother measuring on my 210x55 shock.

@@OtterMTBtech yeh I'll give it a try 👍 Live in Australia. The suspension centre I purchased the shock through had to order steel shaft separately then install. The only downside is you don't have the sag indicators.

@@OtterMTBtech thanks for answer! I thought that I destroy the shaft with this type of cinematic…I am light rider so I need good sensitivity. What do you think about cane creek tigon?
I’ve been riding stumpy evo with the shock for 1.5 seasons. Shaft is showing some wear under flashlight (slight discolouration) where it enters damper body but nothing critical

rockshox continually delivers half baked products. I swapped most of their stuff to manutou a few years ago and have never looked back tbh. I still have bikes with RS on them but I am not a customer any more, just a former customer. I don't think RS makes bad products. Most can be fixed with some mods, but out of the box they are often either wierdly tuned or have some flaw that must be fixed for the suspension to work best. I have this exact shock also with springdex and I didn't find it particular great. I don't think Fox is great either though :)
Flawed in what way? Also “weirdly tuned” is decided by yourself at check out. Most retailers have a couple different tunes of rear shocks so picking one accordingly is key.
I’m struggling with that bike, the Super deluxe worked with HBO. Currently on Dvo with it. Not sure what’s the right answer. Every bike has a personality and the shock may or may not like it.
To be honest I think the bomber cr feels better than my rockshox superdeluxe coil dh rc2 ever did what I find funny because I paid the same price for them both.
So you are not aware of different stock tunes? Seriously? Mine is LNL / 320lbs threshold. Compression feels way overdamped due to the basevalve I guess.
@@OtterMTBtech that’s not what I’m saying at all, but I disagree with that statement. The shock is available with 3 different compression tunes and 2 different rebound tunes from the factory.
Not here to nitpick but HBO, HSC and LSC all have 5 not 4 clicks. Just want to make sure nobody gets the wrong idea. Also “not working properly” it’s one of the most popular shocks of the last 3 years.
@@OtterMTBtech it was discontinued for a couple reasons. 1 it makes more sense calling Vivid in their lineup (Vivid Air, Vivid Coil) 2 marketing, the Vivid line is for ultimate traction so the TD makes sense. But in no way was the SD coil “broken.” That’s why the SD Air still exists. Shocks have worked without position sensitive dampers for years. But realistically there’s no way for you to test without a dino…
RockShox sucks. That’s why they have to change the damper and air spring every 2 years. Super deluxe main piston and piggyback lasted 1.5 years. Fox EXT dame damper since 2021, Try DVO, Fox, EXT. then get back to me. RockShox works for people who don’t care about what they ride. Easy setup mediocre performances
@@OtterMTBtech Rockshox only changed the damper because they are innovating but the last SD lasted 2.5ish years. Fox is lagging behind, DVO is just rebranded SR Suntour and while I would like to try EXT it isn’t in the cards currently because of its price to performance. EXT isn’t in the same category as the Fox, RS and DVO because it’s custom. I highly recommend getting shock with your bike’s specific tune because the tune can make all the difference. Again there’s not much you can test using a scale… Seeing your setup guide video on the MY23 “Lyric” it seems like you don’t get along with RS products because your setup process is incorrect.
People can shit on this shock, however this shock is brilliant as I stated before I prefer the feeling of rockshox. And maybe technically other shocks are better on paper. But I would say this subjective . There are plenty of pro riders who ride each. Many of which are told what to ride and very few that actually get to choose. If rock shock is so shit why do they land just as many podiums as other brands. Yes it’s rider, but truely if the forks and shocks are shit, they would not be winning or podium. Also you stated running both high and low equally. That may of been your experience, but I would run negative 2 or neg 1 for low and +1 for high with middle hbo if I was bottoming out to much or neg 1 if less big hits. I think it’s great your sharing your thoughts, however every rider is different and the bike kinematics, sag, wheels, inserts and casing also play into this. Simple answer is. Go and bracket your suspension for how you set your bike up on tracks that you ride or race
It’s not the board it’s the rider is a slogan from board sports. The best athletes the equipment is not really a the issue. You’re missing the big picture. The range is so massive with the 4 clicks it creates an imbalance unless they are matched. Adding just 1 click is like more range than an entire grip 2 damper high speed circuit.
Maybe next time instead of claiming 10 things regarding which brand is good or not. you could inform us into what is that actual difference in performance that you allegedly see? the interview was horsing around with opinion.
