- The life story of Michael Chambers aka "Boogaloo Shrimp: the dancer, actor, singer, comedian and master of waving, ticking, backsliding and liquid animation dance during the 1980's breakdancing phenomenon.
Finally a respected and well deserved tribute to Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp/Turbo" Chambers! He's like me, never change no matter what!
I which there was more to this documentary like when Turbo and Ozone would fly to New York and teach the B-Boys how to Pop n' Lock and in return they would teach them how to Breakdance new moves and would come back home to LA and teach everyone else what they learned from the New York dancers! AMAZING!!!
😊
Always knowing what some gifted people, my brother. Shrimp 65 we was blessed. I always had energy, my brother. I've a walking on my hands doing the special things we did
He is literally one of the nicest and most genuine human beings I have ever seen or heard.
Love watching him
That broom scene is forever a classic
Michael Boogaloo Shrimp Chambers was my legend and I have studied and tried to copy his moves since I was a kid and saw Breakin 1&2, I am now 51 and still poppin, I will never get tired of watching and listening to this special person. Excellent documentary with great stories I hadn't heard before. I saw Jeffrey Daniels last year in England and they tried to attribute the moonwalk to him there. He is a good dancer but has nothing on Boogaloo Shrimp the master of animation. Love to you Michael ❤
It's actually Bill Bailey that danced the first moonwalk at the Apollo Theater

Most people don't know that he taught Michael Jackson how to moon walk!!!! Living Legend
also MJ "borrowed" his style, buckles, zippers and one glove.
I mean... Did you watch the video?
Bill Bailey did it first in 1955 an then The Lockers (Rerun from What's Happenin) did it on tv in 1975
Jeffrey Daniels from Soul Train taught MJ how to Moonwalk. He called it the Backslide. It was on the Soul Train Doc on VH1
@@whatdaroMichael Chambers borrowed his dress style from Banning Pilot's Mascot and Drill team outfits. Phineas Banning is a high-school in Wilmington California where he was from. He lived a block away from me on Watson Avenue with his grandmother in Wilmington CA late 70's early 80's. He missed most of his high-school years there because that's when his career took off and he was no longer able to attend.
Michael Chambers may remember this but when my mom was pregnant with me, she was in l.a. while they were filming Breakin. She met him and ozone. Michael rubbed my moms tummy when she was pregnant with me. So in a way, he was the first celebrity I met.
Amazing to see this at the age of 40. I grew up watching breakin' 1 & 2
21:12 -- smoothest moonwalk in the business. you see why michael was checking his style...legendary dancer...humble dude, i've heard nothing but good things about my man.
I enjoyed Breaking 1 and 2 ! I enjoyed all the dancers in both Movies!

He should have been on Team USA, he should be a break dance honorary judge

Hello I enjoyed your Video! I always enjoyed Break Dancing back in the days! I grew up Break Dancing in the early 80's ! For a Girl I wasn't so bad at Break Dancing in 1980's!
Wonderful Documentary , we have to start recognizing the people behind the greatness in all cultures
my childhood i miss the 80s
Just remember ‘moon walking’ was being done in the early 20th Century. But Michael Chambers (AKA Boogaloo shrimp) just refined it to a technically advanced art form.
Such a beautiful documentary thank you 🙏 Micheal Chambers
I miss You Boogaloo ❤❤❤
..and theres inane videos on YT with way too many more views than this legend? The world is back to front when it comes to what is real talent

As a filmmaker I have to say this is entertaining and very well produced. Great job A1. Full of information that I was not aware of, now to watch Breakin’ lol

Much respect
Break dancing AKA breaking the best in the world bar none
Real life super hero.
What a guy, fantastic life story! I'm 49 and also lived the whole early hip-hop days with intensity (in Europe). Imagine going down in History as the man who taught Michael Jackson his most recognizable move! Wow. The only thing i would have passed (if it had been me) was the White House thing, mostly because i don't support the american War on Drugs stupidity, but other than that, everything he participated was great and had a big cultural influence.
One Love To Lil Coco.
I could see the balance in him from having a mother and father in the house.
Give it up for the Dancing On The Ceiling as well
Finally a great video this is the first video I seen that told the truth I'm OG Mekanizm from Sacramento homeboy if Derrick lovinns and I'm listening and hearing about how LA came up with this art like you said we were doing this long before the movie and their weak dancers. Giving credit to shrimp for everything which isn't right but I just wanted to give u props
Awesome doc😢😊
I love the west coast so much from the Bay to LA.
Odd....i just had boogaloo shrimp at some Chinese take out recently
Lol. I remember when Breakin' came out. Cool stuff. The music eas new, clothes dance and style.
FYI: The room dance didn't top the broom number
True. And Breakin 2 almost didn't have Shabba Doo. He was going to be replaced because Golan/Globus didn't want to up his pay. They were cheap as hell. Notice Popping Pete and Pop N Taco aren't in Breakin 2? Also, the media had oversaturated the world with (a lot of really bad) breaking and the fad was dying by the time Breakin 2 was released. They had exploited the art form - which still thrives and grows mainly underground. But, this summer the OLYMPICS may revive the fad in the U.S. But there's a serious underground and international breaking community that still goes strong. It's just that little Biff in the mall doesn't know about it.
Boys got game.B.BOY FROM 82.DENNIS THE MENNIS.😮😊🎉
I can verify. Turbo was the reason I wanted to dance.
Michael ✌🏼
so good, thank you
Back when venice was fun instead of durtee b umz everywhere
Good documentary I love dancing it’s fun and there’s a movie is so good and breakin is also my favorite dance movie that broom scene in the film was cool amazing
I just found out today that Shaba Doo passed away on this day, 3 years ago.
Coincidence 12/29/2020 😢
I literally wore my Breakin vhs tape out. Classic movie. But nobody on this thread is gonna give Kraftwerk any love? Their song Tour De France was a perfect background for Mikes dance sequence.
Love You Facts...
Thank you
I cannot believe the American Olympics Break Dancing Team did not call him! That really pisses me off, they really missed an opportunity.
I think the husband-wife combination created the Olympic competition space whereas the husband was the judge and the wife was a competitor.
Cosmo D from outer space!!! Word!
3:15: "He was born to do what he does." word
🐐
He went in junior high with my brother in wilmington california
36:19 Trippy Red at 30 😂

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I thought Casper was also one of the dancers who taught moonwalk to Mj?
Anyone know what gear is used to make the “BS please report to the dance floor” sound at 1:25?
💎
La Trimm! 2:27
Can we get the story right just for once it's getting tiring?😢😢
Sweet moonwalk at 20:00.
First off, he didn’t bring us the moonwalk, learn history. The first moonwalk was decades before. 1940s or there about.
🤘🏼
Michael Jackson played Micheal Chamber dirty.
Get off my beats
And thats how much you people know shrimp was garbage we were doing that way before the movie came out and 5he only thing you people dont know is that there were dancers way better than him when they made the movie they didnt have open tryouts he got the part from his locker partner we used to laugh at that fool the broom scene all i remember is the string on the broom that dude was garbage if you would have seen real poppers yiu would be amazed but shrimp is garbage to real hitters he aint. No legend
Is this comment AI generated?
That moonwalk in circle at the very beginning of the movie, and that stroboscope popping is good enough for me. I danced enough in my life to know how good he was. I AGREE though, that this broom scene ain’t that great 😂
Wait till boogaloo shrimp in poppin pete get exposed theure not the real founders boogaloo started in oakland
Why the F was robert taylor on here? WEST SIDE!
Of course everyone should know the moonwalk part MJ (duh) 😅... anyways a True Legend So So humble so honest So Real & of course So So Under paid & represented Fuck!!!Don't get me Started Y'all!!! 😤🫣🤔
