The air purifier I have is GrovPure. It's got a particulate counter on it so you can see how bad your air starts out at and how much it gets better. Not sure about helping with dust though, it's more about removing allergens so you can breath easier.

Also with the record player It can be a speaker problem, or something in the electronic side of things, but I also have no idea how those players work so I'm just assuming from my experience with other devices! Hopefully someone has a better answer!
If the power cable is removable try replacing it! I say this because my PC power cable was preventing the power button to work, I was pressing it a lot of times until it reacted and powered on, but from then it had no problem staying on. Changing the power cable fixed it and now it starts normally from the first press!
