If you have the S5 you have got to get the Ninja V monitor/recorder. (400 bucks). Then you will be getting 5.9k Full Frame, Prores RAW at 12 bit, 422 color space. The image is poetry. I just shot a feature film on the S5. I didn't have to think about the camera once. RAW files are big. Only use them on important work/clients/features. Just two issues worth noting: you get more rolling shutter on full frame than you do on M4/3, so no fast pans allowed for action sequences, and, you will break the micro HDMI end of the cables unless you clamp them. I am a pro, I shoot Alexa regularly, I cannot tell the difference between a 70k Alexa and the 5.9k RAW out of the S5...for real. Mind blowing camera and cheaper now because of the new phase detect in the S5II. I have seen S5 bodies going for 1000 bucks!!!!!
2:01 Pro tip, you can scroll down on the V-Log screen to uncover differently scaled sharpness and NR settings. V-Log defaults both to 0, which seems to be the equivalent of the normal profiles' -5.
@@joseagonzalez2973 It’s a log format which allows you to collect more dynamic range in video but forces you to convert it to rec.709 and grade it yourself for it to not look like a grey mess
Worth noting that contrary to what Caleb says, in V-Log if you scroll down through the empty settings boxes, you'll come to a second set for Sharpen and NR and these can be set in-camera. I've dialled all sharpening out on mine. Hope this helps someone out there.
7 months later, but just in case you're still not sure. Typically, you want your shutter speed to be double your frame rate. So if you are filming at 25fps, shutter speed is 50. And if you're shooting at 120fps, then shutter speed is 240. This is all about the amount of motion blur you get in your footage, and avoiding...I don't know how to put this...almost a flashing effect if the shutter speed is too high. 180 degree angle means that the shutter speed will always be double the framerate. So if you change framerate, the shutter speed will change automatically to the correct value for that new framerate. Hope that helps :)
how would you set your zebras for v-log? i mean you have them for natural as you say at 95% and 75% for skin tones....what about on v-log or cine d2? thanks in advance, really like your videos mate
I was filming and got out focus my video several times can you do a video teaching us how to film using manual focus without losing tracking of the object . ( S5 shooter) Thank you mate I appreciate you
Have to manual focus, so if the subject is moving away, turn accordingly! There are two different settings for manual focus, I suggest using the I think it’s wire and linear focusing 🧐🧐
Been looking for new cameras, coming up from the G4. looks like the full frame S5 is a good fit for me. Looking for run and gun and minimal setup so I can focus on story and not messing with tech stuff all the time. Maybe the S5 is the one.
I have Panasonic s5 for a year now.. My big problem is i need to shoot jpeg streat out of the camera..for people portrait. But i cant get the right settings for the best picture profile ,white balance and skin tone.. Blease give me the best settings for my camera. Thangs alot for every thing ^_^,,
Hey, I just got my s5 and was following your video, but I don’t have a couple of options that you have on your screen. The master pedestal level and the SS/gain operation. What gives? Did I get a fake s5?
I have nevr changed anything.. I always thought the profiles were set to use as is.... why don't you set a custom one up for profile in one of the C numbers or do you? I am a real beginner and just press record and away to go. Just done a little 2 min video using the s5 if you want to give me some critque on it - any help greatfullyt received.. thansk.s
I took Caleb's settings and added them to a Custom profile since I also use the S5 for photography. Really nice to be able to call up these custom video settings quickly while not interfering with my standard photo settings.
I am getting a grey transparent line at the top and bottom of the pictures I am taking. Not sure why is that must be some settings. Looks like only happens in RAW. Any idea?
You should add that you need filters if you set the shutter angle if the shutter apeed is twice the frame rate the footage is extremely overexposed in daylight if you dont use filters. Many beginners dont know this. They set the shutter angle and think everything is fine.
Isn't that adjusted automatically changing the aperture? I have that issue on my DJI pocket 2 because it comes with fixed 1.8 aperture, but the S5 seems to do a good job regulating aperture.

What a absolute legend!
just picked one up from ebay for 850, perfect condition 🤯
Hey Caleb, do you have samples videos of what your settings produce vs stock settings?

That comment about filming random things in your backyard was so on point. Also great channel you got a new subscriber #lumixgang
I had shutter angle on but im not sure how it works so i went back to shutter speed

Thanks, this made me realize I was not shooting in vlog and I was wondering why LUTs in editing software just made everything look like trash!
i HAVE A PANASONIC BGH1 do you recommend this for this as well

use the built in focus peaking or get a external monitor with good focus peaking. you'll nail your focus everytime
How to pause video recording Lumix S9?
Hi Caleb, I do not see the 24p option on my S5 only 25p? Just got the Camera FW ver.2.4
You’re set to Pal rather than NTSC
If you switch to Ntsc you’ll get the 24p… if you’re in the uk you’ll use PAL… check which one your country uses

The SS/gain setting was added in a firmware update after the camera was released. Take a look at the available updates and see if that helps!

I have a question: Does the Tokina 11-20 F2.8 lens works with the Lumix S5?
If it’s for full frame and is l-mount then yes. If it’s not l- mount then you’ll have to adapt it

Man, i had the worst setings set for my S5, manny thanks...
Thx for this video. I have also S5 but what is maximum lens weight for S5 ? Actually, the real question is: Does a heavy lens damage the body?
If the lens is made for the mount why would it damage the body?

Great overall video......I don't have an S5, but Ken uses these. The colors look great out of this camera.
Lame knowledge
I'm sorry but if you're not shooting in v-log for video you're not doing it right.
definitely for the dynamic range
Unless you are shooting in very low light.
Can someone explain vlog to me?
Not everybody needs v-log...
