    Great video!! I am 52 and recently got a dexa scan because I suffered a stress fracture in my hip because of long distance running / marathon training and found out that I am osteopenic. Laura mentioned that if you are osteopenic and have a low trauma fracture that you actually have osteoporosis, but wondering where stress fractures come into play when they are caused by overuse and many runners get these without being osteopenic or osteoporotic. Thanks for the great info!

    Great podcast as always. (I am a part of diamond program)
    One Comment; When addressing vegan diet you must know more about their lifestyle. Where they unhealthy vegans or healthy vegans.. etc etc. To put out statement without the proper foundation of the claim is not trustworthy.

    Thank you thank you!! Crucial and practical information I will be using. So appreciative of the bone density scan info - gastro Dr told me to have another one - I will be making sure to ask for a densitometrist/technician who is ISCD-certified. To your health!

    Laura mentioned a certification that the DXA scan operator should have - ISCD International Society of Clinical Dexsitometry (around 18:30 video timeline). Is this also the case for the UK? I'm having a review with my doctor in a few day's time, so it would be good to know this. Thanks.

    I had a horrible rashwent to a dermatologist and he prescribed predinzone. I did not want to take it but could not take the itching any more do went with it. It helped a bit but rash is still there but am just dealing with the itching. Did not know it would effect bone density. Will not take it again.

    Great information. My lab work is always showing a low WBC, 3.5 area. Is this a bad thing and is it promoting my low bone mass?

    Every good video. Did she say Strontium wasn't good for you? I just ordered from Amazon Garden of Life Grown Bone system & at night I'm suppose to take 3 (I never start anything with the max amount) at night of Strontium.

    • @mrsvcrane
      @mrsvcrane Рік тому

      Terese, I wouldn’t take strontium. I considered that product too when first diagnosed, but after researching it, I find out it is actually a metal that settles in your bones, and it will throw off your DEXA scan, showing a false improvement. You get about 3 to 5 mg of strontium in your diet naturally from food, per day. “Grow Bone” is a mega dose of 680 mg which is MUCH too high and not natural. GoL’s Raw Calcium is a much better product to take. It has a trivial amount of strontium in it, but is in a proportion that is found in nature.

    • @BoneCoach
      @BoneCoach  Рік тому +2

      Strontium itself isn't "bad". It's a natural trace mineral that's found in soil and certain foods in smaller amounts. But because strontium weighs more, it can make the bones denser without making them stronger.
      If you’re still losing bone, avoiding strontium supplementation is important so you can accurately measure progress.

      @@BoneCoach, I've been on your email list for quite a while and appreciate all you share. Like you, I suffered from celiac disease that went undetected for decades before getting that under control and working on my gut health, etc. I wish I'd never agreed to start taking Fosamax. I'm 65 and have been taking it for about 2 years. I am starting the Grow Bone System and wonder if I should stop taking bisphosphonates altogether or take both at the same time. I know now that the bisphosphonates remain in my system even if I stop taking them :( Thank you so much for any direction you might give as I know what my dr. will say unfortunately.

    I was diagnosed with osteopenia 2 years ago. My T scores, as of my recent DEXASCAN show that there is a 6.3% decrease in the bone mineral density of my lumbar spine since 2022. I have epilepsy and have taken antiseizure medications for over 30 years and have had anorexia nervous for maybe just a long. Receiving this diagnosis has been a stab in the back because I have been religious in trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle so as to not worsen my epilepsy. So, as it has been determined, I may have been obsessive about maintaining my health, and I wonder if I brought on this new diagnosis due to poor maintenance of my food consumption. Frankly, I am afraid that I will break bones so easily if I fall upon seizing. My PCP gave me very little instruction as to what I should do. I visit a dietician monthly. Do you have any feedback for me besides consulting with my dietician about my T scores?

  • @Ke-qv3md
    @Ke-qv3md 2 дні тому

    Seems like all my primary care want me to take drugs. I have osteopenia but will not take drugs. I was 62 and diagnosed but did not take meds. I just had a dexa scan done 2024 and my T scores were Right femoral neck -1.6. Left was -1.4 and lumbar was -2.1. When I had my scan done in 2019 it was left femoral neck was -1.0 left hip was -0.8 and lumbar spine was -2.8. I had these at two facilities you can see 2024 the 1st numbers and 2019 was second set. In 2019 it was osteoporosis and 2024 was osteopenia. But 2019 did not do my right side and my pain was worse on my right.

    ❤❤❤what would you advise someone to definitely add to diet if they do choose veganism? I understand it's not the ideal for bones, but for that group, what are a few super important food/supplements? Appreciate you!

    • @BoneCoach

      Great question! Our program will definitely help you understand how to nourish your body, no matter your dietary approach, in the best way possible.
      We provide many different approaches to nutrition knowing that everyone is different and some foods which work well for someone may not work well for someone else. There is not one nutrition plan that our members are asked to follow. We provide options and explanations, and you choose what works best for you. We have many women in our program that are strict vegetarians and vegans, and they have no trouble applying our recommendations.
      Depending on the level of the program, clients are able to work directly with our program experts (we have an awesome registered dietitian, physical therapist, functional medicine practitioner, stress and sleep expert, etc.) who will be able to answer ALL your questions.
      Knowing you’re interested in these topics - I think our programs could be really valuable to you.

    Also, I'm assuming that the errors in results could be both ways - a reading that is too low, but maybe also a reading that is not low enough? Is that correct?
