    I’d be the most logical consumer for this OR30 - but I already have and ❤ my OR100, which is a 2 channel, 100W super loud, tons of mids and low end behemoth: a chunky and chuggy version of the OR15. OR100 can power scale down to 30W.
    If you’re in the market for an OR30 that costs about $1800 new; you might be in the market for a more versatile OR100 that is discontinued, but average costs around $2000 used - only a $200 or so difference.

      damn right! LOVE my or100. Its the only amp I kept. So many power options and the loop is so clean. Hell, I run it full power all the time, I just use an fx unit in loop to control output volume. It can sound amazing even at low final volumes. I got my or100 and 2x12ppc cab with roll case, for about $1500 used, 10 years ago. The amp is still mint as new and I use it all the time. Im pretty sure the market has leveled off at $1500-$2k on the head. Not that Im even contemplating selling mine. CLean channel headroom for days, can really get those 2/12's to pop. Thank goodness they put a bass knob on it, as itll bass you to the moon.

    So the GZ34 rectifier tube is basically a 5AR4. Tube Amp Doctor or TAD has a plug and play solid state replacement that goes for about 20 bucks shipped, and there's a few others available as well, including a THD electronics one that I have heard good things about. Just in case you wind up keeping that amp and want to resolve any lack of attack or speed of response that having a tube rectified high gain amp may cause, especially with a quad of EL84's AND a tube rectifier together. In fact, given those two factors, I bet they had the doom/sludge player in mind. OH ALSO it has an extra 12AU7 late in the signal path for the loop. You should try running a cable stright from the send to the return to see what that effects loop can do to itself in terms of gain, it is two stages after all, and I think they're both before the master volume.

    Had some microphonic tubes in mine which was super lame, but aside from that I love this amp. Might be offloading a couple because this amp covers so much ground. With an sd-1 and gain at 1-2 o’clock it’s lethal, and if you kick off the sd-1 and roll your guitar volume back to 3-4 (pickup dependent) it’s almost perfectly clean. Responds better to rolling off the volume than any of my other amps. And with the presence dial and bright switch it you can get just the right amount of top end. And as you noted, stupid amounts of low end. If no one told you, I think most people would assume this is a 50w el34 or 6l6 amp.

  • @TheOtherJohnBrowne

    When this amp was anounced, I have to admit I thought who in their right mind would take this over a Rockerverb 50w mk III given that they almost cost the same (in Europe at least)?
    But you made it sound super lethal and the punch control seems like a great add on. I still think Orange are somewhat competing with themselves releasing this amp but I'd love to A/B test one against my RV50 to find out first hand.

    I owned four el84 tube amps before buying the Orange Rocker 32. That amp is the first el84 tube amp that feels like a big bottle tube amp. I don't know what Orange did but they made this amp have that fat 6L6 or EL34 thickness. Usually I have to dial up the Bass to get more of what I want to hear with the el84 tubes but with the Orange it just sounds fat like I want and tube amp to sound right out of the box.

    • @IgnisIban
      @IgnisIban 11 місяців тому

      @@eyedunno8462sure, if you reduce the filtering you’ll introduce more sag maming the amp less stiff, with or without rectifier, mess uses 2 rectifier to satisfy the demands of a quartet of tubes, yeah rectifiers have their capacitance limits, for 5u4 max 40uf reservoir which is kindy loose for most tubes but produces nice bounce and dynamics, and 5ar4 60 uf which is quite tight response for most tubes, the choke vs resistor gives more touch sensitivity and perceived headroom, the screen filtering also tightens the response so helps to not overload the rectifier limit, phase inverter would not introduce much sag, mostly distortion, specially a cathodyne one. On this orange I’m almost sure it have 47uf on reservoir and screen and a typical low tail phase inverter with a cascade 2 stage preamp and a cathode follower tome stacked, I’m not sure where Adrian Emsley add the local feedback but could be on the cathode follower stage as on a 5e7 bandmaster circuit. The negative feedback have strong impact on dynamics and sag, more negative feedback make the amp stiffer, less negative feedback make it looser more bouncy and spongier.

    So I’ve had this amp for 5-6 months now. It’s probably my favorite of my 10 or so that I own. I’ve compared it to my 100 watters and I still can’t believe this amp has so much low end depth and how loud it gets before it hits its headroom ceiling. It’s totally gig-able and pushes 4x12s just fine. Does it get as loud as my 100w amps? Technically the 100w amps do get louder but you’re well past gigging volumes at that point and there’s zero reason to actually be any louder than what this amp can give you. I’ve found it being one channel to not be any sort of an issue and play it just like my multi channel amps. You can either roll your guitar volume back for cleans, or I will use my helix with a dialed back input gain block in the front of the amp signal chain to make the signal clean with full guitar volume, and switch snapshots for an overdrive high gain sound. That was my one worry about this amp but it literally does everything. And lastly this thing nails the British sound. It’s a different flavor than Marshall but I totally would put this up against my Marshalls for that sound.

    At the beginning are you just going from guitar into amp? No pedals or EQ? That's the reviews I like. When they play it in a mix they tweak it all around and you can't hear what it really sounds like. This amp sounds pretty bad ass I must say. I still love my EVH 6L6 though. The thing I love about the EVH is that you don't need a booster pedal. I just use the red channel. There's no need for one unless you want to change the tone with like a tube screamer. The only pedals I need are a chorus, a delay in the effects loop, and a noise gate. That orange does chug pretty nicely. Quick question, do you have to give the amp back to Sweetwater when you're done? Do they give them out to anyone who has a decent following? I would love to do reviews of guitars and amps. I knew that there was no way people were buying all these amps and guitars to review...lol. That would be pretty pricey. I love Sweetwater! I like how they give you candy and give you a personal guy to talk to when you buy stuff so it's easy to just email him and he'll help you out. Shout out to Anthony Giraldi!!

      @@shanesplanetshane3795 i didn't find that at all in fact thought it was kinda dark sounding with more gain than needed, The clean channel was where the amp really shined. Know these were made in Asia and the price point reflected that. Got mine for 550 and at that price point was very happy. Traded it for a Marshall Mini Jubilee straight up and never looked back.

    That sounded amazing but how is it different to the Rockerverb? How loud is it to a 100 watt amp? Just as loud at 100dB?

      Can't speak on the db level, but compared to a roclerverb, this seems to have more top end sheen like an older marshall, and has WAY more low end

      @@belligerentamateur oh wow so if you like Orange but with Mesa Rectifier low end then this seems to be the amp to get huh? That's incredible. I can't believe Orange has all their designs down to one man, Ade Emsley. Props to him.

    I bet $50 most the people spouting off about EL84s couldn't spot the difference between them, 6l6s and EL34s. I've toured with Grindcore bands playing EL84s and nobody thought my Amp wasn't enough. It's pretty hard to make the argument for anything over 30 tube watts these days and EL84s are usually the ones handling that wattage so...guitar players are dumb? Yeah. That's it lol

      There was an OR50, I had the reissue for ages. Wasn't as easy to dial in.
      I would still pick up a used OR100 if I seen one though. The OR30 is amazing sounding, but the price is too expensive for me new.

    Used to have an Orange Crush Pro CR60 until the gain channel crapped out after 3 months of bedroom use. Of course i got it from GC so was probably damaged to begin with. One of the few times I got their protection or would have been $500 gone. Sadly I’ll probably never try Orange again but it sounds great while it actually worked.

      orange's crush series is solid state and made at a low price point. They are made in China, iirc. Try a good orange, you wont be as disappointed. Even the th30 is made to mediocre specs in a mediocre factory. GO search for a good one and you may change your mind.

    I only tested the AD30 HTC in person yet, so I don't really know the OR30 yet. But shouldn't you be able to get all of the sounds by simply maxing the volume and EQ controls, like you can on the AD30 HTC to get nice, destructive sounds?

    WHen I had an OR15, I did find that it didn't play well with all Dirt pedals. Dirt pedals that added mids, usually did so, in Marshall territory, and it would conflict with Oranges mid emphasis. Gtr some weird mid warbling stuff going on.

    • @stillpist
      @stillpist Рік тому +1

      Yeah if you want to use a high gain pedal you have to crank the volume and have the gain way down. Otherwise use transparent ods which work great.
