- Fishing this high altitude lake on the side of a mountain blew my mind! We catch some beautiful fish and see some incredible views, fishing doesn't get much better than this! It definitely wasn't easy getting up there, with my fitness anyway! I hope you enjoy the video especially considering how much effort it took me to get up there. I absolutely love trout fishing, and in this video we do some lure fishing for trout and fly fishing for trout. Wild brown trout fishing at it's finest!
As always, thank you very much for watching, I really appreciate it! If you enjoyed the video please don't forget to give it a like, and subscribe if you want to see more of the fishing videos I make! Hopefully I'll see you here for the next video!

I'd highly recommend it, it's a perfect all rounder!
Thank you very much for watching! The BRAND NEW Adventure Fishing online store is now live, I’d massively appreciate it if you could check it out! www.adventurefishinguk.com/
I’m with you brother. The views were gorgeous. I fish in Utah and Colorado. If I did not catch a fish, the views, the sounds, the water and being in gods creation is sufficient and than some.
Thanks for watching mate! Awesome to hear you're over in America i'd love to fish there one day, especially in Colorado
There are records of one Victorian landowner who stocked high altitude lochs and lochans on his estate in Scotland by having pony panniers (baskets which sit either side of the pony’s withers) lined with linen bags, which themselves were coated with pitch, then filled with stream water, and then the fingerling trout which had been bred in captivity were put into these ‘portable goldfish bags’ and transported to their end destinations by the pony and ghillie.
Great endeavour!
Thats a really cool fact thanks for sharing! I wonder if that kind of thing happened all over 🤔 Thanks for watching!
That’s wild brown trout
Years ago in the states people would load pack horses/mules with big milk cans filled with trout and stock lakes and streams high up in the wilderness .
North Wales is full of these gems! Thank you for sharing!
I've tried a couple of places that seemed fairly devoid of life! I'd be very happy to take a recommendation though if you had one! I love north wales, but have only really sea fished there
@@adventurefishinguk Sea fishing is where I'm from but Lleyn Geirionydd is a good trout lake with a mixture of (brown) trout introduced for various reasons so their colours are considered the most beautiful. I caught a 3/4lb one with red, black and yellow spots, yellow perfect fins, white underbelly. Interestingly, the lake is thought to be dead which keeps everyone away but there is serious tonnage of trout in there. Big eels, too. Only locals tend to know about this...
I enjoy your videos enormously, especially ones such as this, where you share your experience of the incredible scenery you enjoy. You certainly fish in some beautiful locations.
I really appreciate that thank you! Yeah for me fishing is about the views as much as anything!
@@adventurefishinguk how did you know what sex the fish was my son wants to know thanks 😊
Absolutely majestic and very beautiful sceneries. This kind of adventures I really like and your presentation is flawless my friend!
Thanks for watching mate, the scenery won't be quite as dramatic as the places you go though!
Thank you! The fish are amazingly beautiful!
They certainly are, nothing beats a wild brown trout!
Wow what a beautiful Brownie, just the hike was therapeutic😉
Thanks mate! Didn't feel very therapeutic to me at the time 😂
I need a Kip after watching this. You’re a warrior, our George!
😂 not the easiest place to fish that’s for sure!
Beautiful scenery and beautiful fish...what more could one ask for?!
Thanks for watching mate!
Brilliant stuff.. Thoroughly enjoyed !
Thanks for watching mate!
Nice vid. Fly fishing suggestions if i may.
1. Fish the fly first to avoid spooking too many fish
2. If you get a follow don't be afraid to pause for a good few seconds then start retrieve again. They often come back
3. Vary the retrieve speed including very small sharp snatches
4. If you're getting lots of follows but no takes rotate through flies quickly
5. Always try dry fly first to a rising fish. No need to retrieve if the cast is good
6. You need to be stealthier around bank than lure fishing. Dark clothes.
7. Polarised glasses
8. Flies with frills and legs always good when you can't tell what they're feeding on
9. Leader least as long as rod
Some great advice there, thanks a lot I’ll definitely bare it in mind! I’ve got a lot of learning to do 👍
Good advice - I quite often use daddy long legs or caddis - easy to see, nice big mouthful (that is not matching the hatch but is a temptation for the fish to grab a big mouthful) and on rivers if you can't mend your line well, both chub and trout are used to things like caddis skittering on the surface and, because of the size, fish don't just sip but do a decisive take.
@guyosborn615 nice one. Just been out on the river. Had 2 on a sedge and my mate had 3 on a daddy... You're not wrong
@@simon-ec5kv Lovely to hear I'm not always wrong!!!!!🤣
The one good thing about a steady rise climbing to your beautiful pristine pond is that your hike back will mostly an easy downhill lope. 😊
Yeah very good point! Was a nice walk back, quite steep though
@@adventurefishinguk thanks for sharing. You have a very scenic country.
@@Waynegilchrist-r2h Thank you, i'm definitely lucky where I live!
Creds to the people who laid down that path long ago

Yeah that's one of the reasons I love it so much, I appreciate the comment!
so much beauty on this planet. thanks for sharing

That’s one beautiful place. That hike was long but worth it views and fish what more could you ask for 😊😊😊😊
Thanks for watching mate, amazing place wasn’t it! Effort definitely equals reward 👍
All the hard work followed by an orgasmic ending....discovering the water
Proper real wild fishing. I was going to call it a tarn before you did in the video. Those olive green coloured trout are my favourite and have caught some like that in the Scottish highlands but never fished a tarn, though we have many.
Lovely place to fish isn't it, thanks for watching!
He looks like he’s having a lot of fun.
I definitely was!
Let's go man. Geez your hikes are long but the views are beautiful
Thanks mate! Hope you enjoy the video 👍
Hi. YT just showed me this video in the feed. Love your positivity and enthusiasm. You have a new sub from Austria. PETRI 🎣
Thanks for subscribing I really appreciate that! Great to hear you’re watching from Austria 👍
I know this tarn. And I love it.
I enjoy your channel because I've actually fished some of your remote places! Good fun
Thanks for watching! Always nice to hear from someone likeminded who likes fishing some of the more adventurous places. If you have any suggestions of places to try I’m all ears!
Fantastic rod setup. Would make it easier to hike or kayak with this set up.
Yes, the lake is a glacial tarn, the remnant basin left behind when a glacier has retreated up the valley. The steep wall at the back of the tarn is called a bergschrund or backwall. It’s where the ice cuts almost vertically along with great height of the ice and snow. It’s not a moraine as someone else suggested which is somewhere down the valley - a heap of boulders that were carried down the valley and dumped there when the glacier melted. Fascinating stuff glaciers.
They definitely are fascinating, thanks for watching!
We call that a brown trout here in US. Work of art.
Yeah they're brown trout here too, they're native to the UK. It's a shame we don't have brook trout and cutthroat, those look amazing!
I’ve caught many brookies. They are in my opinion the prettiest trout I’ve caught especially during spawning. Just beautiful.
They don’t grow as fast as the other types. Mostly wild ones and are a great way to spend a day.

What a spot, can't think of many better places to fish
Amazing place isn't it!
Where was it though?
Absolutely beautiful! Best part, not another soul in sight. Wow! Keep that place a secret. LOLOLOL
Amazing isn't it, thanks for watching!
I am from Calfornia and we catch Rainbow Trout, which are beautiful also. I have never caught a Brown Trout, my dad did once, a 14 1/2" at Yellowstone National Park, (had to be over 14" to keep). I watch 3 of your videos, "The River has never been fished...," the video, "Fishing under a Mountain Waterfall," and this video. All three have Beautiful scenery. Though you caught smaller Brown Trout in this video, they were magnificently beautiful, so much red in them!
I actually think I liked this video overall the best!
Thanks for taking the time to check a few of my videos out I really appreciate it! Glad you've enjoyed them. We have rainbow trout here too but they're mostly stocked, with only one none-native breeding wild population. Yeah i've found brown trout in the mountains always seem to be so vividly coloured!
Great fun! We walked up there back in January, ice & thick fog! Nice to see it on a clear day in your video.
Thanks for watching, it’s an amazing place isn’t it. I wouldn’t fancy those steps up in the ice, was slippy enough being a bit moist!
Lovely little video! You're a top chap! 🙂
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful location and fish mate. If you get chance, get yourself over to New Zealand. I never fished for trout back home, but when I moved here, there wasn't the traditional coarse fisheries I was used to, so I started trout fishing. It is pretty epic over here and I'm sure you'd love it. This video looks like it could be in NZ. Keep up the sweet as content 😊
Thanks for watching mate! I'd absolutely love to go trout fishing in NZ, I see some massive fish caught from incredible places on youtube
Chur brother.
Beautiful fish, scenery and great videography
Thanks mate, had great fun filming this one!
Cool adventure mate, fishing is a bonus 🎣
Very true, great fun being up in the mountains regardless of fishing or not!
Great film George. Nice one mate
Thanks for watching Rick, much appreciated!
Hey...nice video and intro to that bit of kit. As a mountain fly fisher I can certainly appreciate it.
You cast better than a beginner, so definitely put a longer leader on! Or they'll get spooked. Also, try doing all your false casts to the side rather than to the same spot you're looking to cast.
Or each false cast can also spook the trout 👍
Some good advice there thanks a lot for taking the time to comment! My short leader definitely didn't help
A tarn is a small circular lake formed by a glacier
An old northern english word derived from old Norse ( Tjorn) meaning a small mountain lake with no tributaries.
Good knowledge! Another term for it is a Corrie lake, I remember that from GCSE geography 👍
Red Tarn has a tributary which flows down into Ulswater
50 years ago I fished a tiny Scottish lake in the middle of a pine forest. I only caught one 6 inch trout and although it had brown trout markings it was almost as green as a tench!
That's cool, i've had a few fish like that before. Almost olive coloured?
that bit with the fly looked great
It was great fun! Thanks for watching 👍
This is cool and u have a great attitude.
Thanks mate I appreciate that!
You should try fishing sprinkling tarn just south of seathwaite, near borrowdale.
Thats on my list for sure!
Weather you catch anything or not, it’s sort of a win win situation. That is such a beautiful location I wouldn’t mind not catching anything. Too class vid mate
Yeah I couldn’t agree more, it’s great fun being up there and fishing. Catching is a bonus! Thanks for watching
Try Panther Martin, Melos. Also try a small piece of cut shrimp. Sounds crazy, but Trout love Shrimp
I had no idea they liked shrimp! Heard great things about the panther martins though
Wet the line mate b4 you start and During cuts dwn the birds nest mate lovely Tarn fishing 😊stunning Trout
Thanks for the advice mate!
For a split second I thought it was Llyn Cau on the way up to Cadair Idris in north Wales. Super scenery! 🤙🍻
Thanks for watching! Have you ever seen any fish rising in Llyn Cau?
@AdventureFishingUK Yes, but in the late 90's. Last time I hiked up there was 2016 on a return visit to Wales. Didn't really look for long due to the company I was with. Out in Colorado where I live now we've got tons of high alpine lakes that are full of trout and char (brook trout and lake trout), plus the native cutthroat. Keep up the great videos! I miss the fishing adventures of my youth in Wales! Kinda miss the rain too 🤗
@@the_boonies In a couple of year time i'm hoping to have a road trip in the US with my family. I'd love nothing more than a fishing trip on an alpine lake for cutthroat trout!
@AdventureFishingUK Hit me up! I'm in Fort Collins north of Denver and 10mins from Poudre Canyon, excellent wild trout water with big Browns. When you head west up Hwy14 there's a lake called Chambers, that's where we Lake Trout fish after ice off. Big big fish lurk in there. Lots of wildlife in that area. We had our 1st wolf sighting back in May 😳 State Forest State Park has multiple high alpine lakes, one of which just got stocked with California Golden Trout. But they are tiny right now. When are you thinking of heading over to the US?
Also.....look up the Lahontan Cutthroat. They get very very big! Pyramid Lake in Nevada has some absolute behemoths 🤩
Thanks for the upload
Thanks for watching! 👍
I spent days doing the same thing in the wilds of Scotland over the years. Remote little puddles full of fish
I bet there’s loads of places like this to fish in Scotland I’d love to explore them one day
Myself is no fisher man, but I could imagine a great hiking here for sure. Although I like to watch how others fishing. It's a beautiful place.
It’s great fun hiking yeah, especially when there is fishing involved!
You deserve a like for the Hike!

Really glad you enjoyed it, it was great fun filming this one! Thanks for watching
Man, that's a breathtaking view! I loved the video, and the versatility of that rod. Cheers!
Thanks for watching mate, much appreciated!
My cousins grandfather took fish into high mountain lakes in the 40's on donkeys and planted them. I have fished them. Beautiful fish.
That’s an amazing bit of history! Where abouts did he do that? Someone else commented saying they are aware of it happening in Scotland
@AdventureFishingUK this was in NW Montana in the Mission mountains. I grew up there. It was my understanding he and some others planted a few lakes there
Loving the views keep up the good work like what you do.. barbless is good 😊
Thanks mate, beautiful place isn’t it! I appreciate the comment 👍
barbless isnt good for some species or styles of fishing the deep penertrate where as barbed hooks dont go as deep as the barb prevents this from happening
Wow you went that amazing walk/hike to to fish for real wild brown trout. I'd like to know who else has done it? Im from Scotland, you should see how many of these small Loch's are. We need a helicopter company to sponsor you 😂
Haha yeah I wouldn’t say no to a helicopter ride up to one! I’ve seen Scotland looks absolutely full of mountain lochs, hopefully I get the chance to explore some of them!
I wild camped there with some mates back in 1998 - there were fish rising all the time back then too!
That’s really cool to hear, they must have been in there a long time!
Wow.. epic ! beautiful.
Thanks for watching!
wow that is such a cool fishing rod, sweet vid
It's a great bit of kit isn't it!
Greetings from across the pond

Looks like it might be worth taking a gold pan. That little stream looked goldy.
Good idea that would be great fun
Good afternoon from America! Thanks for posting your video, it was very soothing to watch and I must say, what a tool that fishing setup you have is! I've only used spinning reels, and baitcasters, but after watching you fly fish, i might just go buy one myself! Thanks again and have a great day buddy!
Thanks for watching I really appreciate it! Yeah the rod is great sin't it, they're launching a US website next week actually!
Great video George pal what a beautiful location 👍🏼😁 that 2nd trout was absolutely stunning the colour were amazing I’ve never seen those colours on any trout 🤷🏼♂️ the black & red spots with that greenish body was just delightful I was out again tonight with my wee Brother we both caught a sea trout each him on the fly & mines on a Mepps so I’ve still not caught on the fly rod but the conditions on the local rivers are so bad very low & clear 🤦🏼♂️ we need rain so badly I’ve got my casting quite good I’ve had 2/3 flies over the same rising fish but it wouldn’t take I need more flies maybe smaller than the few I have I think most are 14’s so some 16 & 18’s are a must also when I tie my fly on I’m forever getting kinks in the line which clearly messes up the presentation 🤷🏼♂️ I’ll get there though just have to keep at it & take as much advice as I can get.
Take care pal n Tight lines
✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
Thanks for watching mate! Sounds like you've had some good sea trout fishing, i've not caught one in years! Hopefully i'll see one on the bank soon. And yeah i'm always getting kinks in my line too
Appreciate you making sure you don't hurt the trout by wetting your hands before touching them
Always!
Nice video, and Thank you for posting. Reminds me when a couple of friends and i hiked a little over 8 miles to fish Horton lake in the Sierra Nevada U.S. The elevation was around 11,000 ' and the trout had small bodies but big normal sized heads, due to main diet being mosquito's . I was an inexperienced hiker, and i packed way too much weight going up, but the suffering was all worth it.
That sounds like a really cool trip. Even our highest altitude lakes in the UK are about a third of the elevation of that. I'd love to fish the US!
Wow Great video and what a beautiful place to fish.
Thanks for watching mate! Really nice place isn’t it 👍
Spot on George! Amazing views as usual.. like myself no matter the size it’s an absolute buzz each time
Thanks for watching mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. I love any picturesque videos, especially fishing ones!! You mentioned your back taking the strain in the video. I'm a sports physio and have some little bits that would make it easier. 1) Get your rucksack higher up on your back, not hanging down low. Also, the heaviest items should be at the top with the rucksack filled equally from left to right. 2) Like a lot of injuries, things go 'eek/ bang/ crack" through overuse. So some basic exercises for your quads and core will help no end. Getting fit for fishing hahaha. Who'd have thought it, but joking aside it;ll allow you to keep making more vids. ATB, Chris. :)
Thanks for the advice, I tend to get a lot of pain behind my left shoulder blade towards the middle i think it’s probably caused by lots of casting with a bag on. Weight distribution isn’t something I’d considered so thanks for the pointer!
Merci pour la video et BRAVO
Lovely spot. I camped with my wife next to that tarn and swam across it's cold water back in 2002. Also got exhausted going up to that same peak. I've caught Arctic charr in very similar little corrie loughs in Ireland. Wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility..
Beautiful isn't it! I don't suppose you could point me in the right direction of a small corrie lough where i'd have a chance at a char could you? That may just be worth driving to Ireland for
@@adventurefishinguk Hi there, they are very difficult to catch on rod and line. You would love the little Lough Callee below Carauntoohil, Irelands highest point. We discovered charr there back around 2010. Also contains beautiful little brownies. Another of my favourites is Coomasaharn and Coomaglaslaw, which contain the most beautifully patterned char I've seen. Also home to some enormous Ferrox trout. You would love it over there!

Brillant video George. Looks like the water was very clear all the hill (lochs in scotland 😂) have a peaty tinge near me so visibility isnt great. Montana nymphs seem to do well as they resemble a tadpole or larva. Shame you never got one on the fly joining the club with me in regards to catch on the fly atm 😂.
Thanks mate, yeah it’s incredibly clear. It’s great fun watching the fish chase, but annoying seeing all the ones that turn away! Yeah shame about the fly but next time hopefully!
Nice brownies - they are fun to catch. Was just up in the San Juan national forest in southern Colorado and at 10830 and was catching brookies on dry flies and it was 39F. It was great and got some pics of them.
They certainly are great fun to catch! I'm jealous of the trout varieties you have over there in the states, we only have one native wild kind and that's the browns
I did something similar in Colorado years ago w a friend, found a series of beaver ponds 5 miles from the nearest road and caught native trout on every cast it seemed. Kept 2 for dinner, threw the rest back, camped out and hiked out the next morning, wish I could wash rinse repeat that day.
I’m a CO native and love finding hard to get to places? Where was it at do you remember? I’d love to put the boots on and cast a line out for you
I remember it was in the White River Nat'l forest near Mt Sopris in the Aspen valley, north slope of Sopris south of Carbondale but dont remember if there was a trailhead # to refer to

Great video mate and a lovely spot, one of my favourite in the lakes. Not sure if you know already but I'm fairly certain that that tarn is the only tarn with artic char living within it, they're left over from the last glacial maximum. Would've been great to see you catch one of them
I had no idea there was char in there, I'd love to catch one of those one day!

That looks similar to the small lakes of Ben Nevis. Many similar lakes like this in Scotland, but the Falcons and Eagles get a lot of food from there.

Thanks for the stunning scenery - you reminded me how much that part of the world is an absolute wonder. The geomorphologic feature that 'hosts' the tarn is called a cirque - created by the last glacial phase to affect planet Earth. There's a nice one on the side of Snowdon.

This is fantastic. I fancy a go at something like this for my channel, something different as my videos are becoming a little similar to one another now. Great work.
Thanks mate! Videos like this are great fun to film
Really cool setup. Something to try with the fly, flip your wrist and let the line take the fly out that way. That is called a roll cast and does not require to height to get it going like you generally see. The little native brown trout that you caught were so pretty, something about the native fish that makes them just a bit more special. Here in the US there are many areas where the native trout population is supported by farm raised and released trout. The farm raised trout are kinda robotic. To get away from them, you have to do exactly what you did, hike up into the mountains and find ponds in the remote waters and often in the Western US the trout species you can find are numerous, many are unique to the water you made be fishing in. Thank you for sharing your experiences, stay safe, and wishing your and your family many Blessings !!!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the advice, much appreciated! Yeah I’m a bit jealous about how many cool trout varieties over there. Brook, golden, cutthroat to name a few! I can’t complain though, for me brown trout are the best. But I’m biased!
@@adventurefishinguk There are spots where the Brown Trout get huge in the right water. And they get a special kind of beauty to them. Dig around on UA-cam for wild Brown trout fishing, you will see so special things.
When fly fishing, you need a longer leader and then tippet. And when you cast, never take your arm past 90 degrees above your head and wait for the weight of the line to begin to bend the rod before moving forward. If you do that, and it takes practice, you will catch those beautiful Brookies
Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it! They're actually wild brown trout, we don't get brookies over here
Thanks, great video !!
