Years ago they used to teach proper posture in school. That is ancient history now. Basic healthcare education needs to be taught to future generations can avoid the pitfalls of poor health due to ignorance. Please keep teaching us these simple basic techniques that can make such a difference when implemented. Thanks for all you do.

I always tried to practice good posture by myself when I was at school. I wished schools taught that again! They don't even teach cursive anymore I believe. I remember having to learn that as well. I would vote schools to resume that any day. My vote is on the table

2:45 supine chin tuck. 4:40 seated chin tuck (avoiding pie in the face!). 6:30 standing chin tuck.

Love you guys! I woulda stayed with you Brad! I'm a personal trainer and studied corrective exercise and always emphasize good posture especially when training. Some of my clients would lift 50 pounds but when I tell them to fix their posture/form they can only lift 10-15 pounds. It's crazy how important posture and good form is. Thanks for teaching us the importance!

I trained horses and coached riders for competition. Posture is everything. What you do with your body the horse mirrors. Just turning your head or tilting it forward will cause a reaction in the horse under saddle. It is amazing how hard people have to work to overcome these bad habits.

Good stuff you guys teach on here. I watched the other video about neck posture and headaches because ive had headaches that i almost never have on the back of my head, super like sensitive and stuff to the touch. I realized that my neck posture was so bad that my chin was literally pointing downwards and not forward and chin up. Changed my neck posture and yeah it felt exagerated at first but the headaches became less and less. Three days tomorrow and hope i can keep it up

This entire video is only about performing chin tucks in different positions, but forward head posture does not always originate at the neck. Oftentimes, you also have to correct hyper-kyphosis (over-rounding) of the thoracic spine, or else patients will continue to hold their neck in proximal cervical flexion and distal cervical extension because they want to look straight ahead.

I didn't stay consistent enough with it. Just started ignoring my alarms... however, i did it consistently for at least a week! It's still here. So one week is not long enough.
On the bright side, I figured out why it was hurting. I wasn't putting my chin down enough! I was keeping it level and moving back thus pinching my nerves. You really have to tuck your chin down then back to avoid tension.

Every single posture video guide starts with someone mimicking poor posture then standing up straight! I would like to see a before and after of someone who has had bad posture for decades that can't stand up and push their neck back perfectly straight fix their posture; but I have never seen any before/after pictures.
    The guide should be:
    Step 1: have perfect posture.
Step 2: mimic forward head posture.
    Step 3: stand up straight.
I know it's well meaning, but I have tried all the exercises and every time I stand up straight (like up against the wall) I can make my shoulderblades and back of my head touch the wall but my neck ends up being bowed with my Adam's apple sticking way out and it feels like my airway is much more narrow. Is there any coming back from that?

    Explaining Proper Posture
Posture refers to your body position when you are standing, sitting, lying down, and when you’re performing movements such as lifting, bending, and twisting.
Your spine consists of three natural curvatures that need to be aligned correctly so that your weight is evenly distributed over both of your feet. The three curves include:
Cervical curve - this is the curve in your neck that has a slight forward curve.
Thoracic curve - this is the curve in your upper and mid back that has a slight backwards curve.
Lumbar curve - this is the curve in your lower back that has a slight forward curve.
Good posture involves having your ear, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle aligned vertically from the side. In many cases, you’ll need to train your body to maintain good posture so that the least amount of strain is placed on the joints, muscles, and ligaments of your body.
    Health Benefits of Good Posture
Maintaining proper posture has many benefits including:
Keeping your joints and bones in proper alignment.
Ensuring muscles are being used effectively and efficiently.
Helping to decrease abnormal wear and tear on joint surfaces.
Decreasing stress on the spinal ligaments.
Preventing the spine from becoming fixed in an abnormal position.
    Preventing muscle fatigue.
Minimizing the risk of sprain and strain injuries.
Minimizing the risk of back pain.
    Promoting a good appearance.
Negative Health Effects of Poor Posture
There are a variety of factors involved in poor posture, with the most common factors being obesity, pregnancy, stress, and weak and/or tight muscles.
Poor posture has a variety of negative health consequences, including:
Creating muscle imbalances in the body.
Accelerating wear and tear on your spine, making you more susceptible to injury.
Increasing the risk of neck, shoulder, and back pain.
    Decreasing flexibility of the body.
Interfering with your balance, increasing your risk of falling.
    Impairing digestion of food.
    Impairing breathing.

Living bone remodels under pressure. That's how orthodontists can straighten teeth. In older people it takes longer, but if you persevere with this it can happen at any age, unless joints are ankylosed (turned into concrete). Mild pain in that bottom neck joint during these moves is a good sign that you are getting results.

What if your neck is so stiff & tight t doesn't move much at all??
My neck muscles feel like steel rods..
Any thought about kyphosis surgery to fix this forever. Or how about a dancer's brace for forcing your posture to get straighter?
How long does doing what U guys R doing? Months, years??
My head is so forward & also was falling way down.
    It is so painful..

Is it ironic that I'm getting 'Tech Neck' watching posture videos on my phone?! I see this all the time, including in myself, but I've been working to correct my posture! People should ask their friends and family to call them out if they notice bad posture because it's hard to be aware and conscious of it at all times!

I'm curious, what happens to the double chin. So I'm doing the exercise and yes they feel weird but I suppose that's part of the process. what about the double shin effect, does that go away as your posture improves or is it a trade-off to get a good posture with a double chin? would love advice from a professional, thank you.

Having a double chin was one of the reasons I always had my head forward growing up because it made me self-conscious. Now that I’m older I regret caring about what people thought of my weight because it ruined my posture and neck.

I know this video is old, but can forward head posture cause your body to deposit more fat in the front of the neck? Similar to how it deposits fat over the cervical area of the spine?

look at your habits. you could be continuing the habits that got your posture that way

Ana P I only have myself to blame cauee when I was 11 to like 14 I used to spend loads of time on the Playstaion, and I’d obviously lean forward a lot and that’s lead to my posture being completely screwed. I always try now though to make sure I’m not leaning forward at all if I’m on a computer or the playstaion, and I don’t use the PS much anyone cause I play the drums more. Unless I sit weirdly when I practice, then I really don’t know if any of my hobbies will be contributing to my bad posture, what do you think?

    • @d-rose27
      @d-rose27 3 роки тому

@@njgjovi7739 focus on your everyday posture, h24
Set a reminder, whatever you want to remember to concentrate on this, like everytime you sit, everytime you touch your head, put your hand in your pocket, literally whatever you do quite frequently.
At first it's hard, but it's a mindset

    • @d-rose27
      @d-rose27 3 роки тому +1

@@njgjovi7739 then the second most important advice is posture involves your whole body : hips, abdominals, shoulder and neck.
Your neck cannot be aligne if the lower body isn't in the right position (not fully straight, your spine isn't).
To work on your abminals, you just have to tuck in your stomach for the longest time you can (probably between 10 and 30 seconds and several times a day, loose weight if you have to, it could help of course).
