I will not get pulled into tele-marketing calls and getting upset in the process. No more excepting bad attitudes from people who really don't care about me. I will stay the course and stick to my plan to walk everyday that I can.
P.S. I bought cans of Tuna instead of Hotdogs at the grocery store today. I did it to make a positive change thanks to your video. You are helping people like me greatly. Thank you, Allison.
@@eldergalThank you, Allison. Now that you mention it, I do remember hearing something about that. As it turned out, I still had two Hotdogs for supper. I wasn't totally out of Hotdogs. Glad I could make you laugh today. Take care, Allison.
I have no sugar around me … not because I don’t want any but weight … high triglycerides and borderline diabetic … not fair! I don’t dare buy any pies cakes cookies candy as I am a sugar-alcoholic (I say) … one bite and I am hooked again! 😢
I hear you on this Gail - fellow sugar addict here! That's why I stay off it for months at a time. I'm on Day 8 off sugar, so I know it will get easier from here. Thanks for your comment!
Wow you said it so well and inspiringly in a human way I need to let a book company me to bed rather than my cell phone and UA-cam vlogs!❤ Loved this one though, genious!
Giving up sugar was / is the hardest thing ive ever done. I went 6 mths , never felt better after the withdrawals & the weight loss was wonderful. I fell off the wagon. You are inspiring me to do it again! Dang, I'd rather eat anything sugar than lobster or filet!!
I know what you mean RUPrepping! The longest I ever went off sugar was 3 years. Hoping this time to stay off until December. I've fallen off the wagon many times though!
Try substituting candy with fruit or sugar free items. (57yo Type 1 Diabetic talking). So many coworkers cramming in the doughnuts, lattes DAILY. I just think "yuck" in my head. I have to, for my daily battle. Refocus, work a hobby. Never say forever, restricted, diet, or obsessed. Small steps then let it go❤
Yup, a sugar addiction is hard to break and it's best to stick to zero tolerance once broken. In January I stopped eating sugar, all processed foods (as a rule...), all grains excepting steel cut oats. I mostly buy organic produce, oats and dairy foods. And buying cut flowers. Those make me happier than sugar. My plan is to follow this food plan as a general rule. The chemicals and pesticides on produce and grains wreak havoc on our metabolisms and lead to nasty diseases. It is expensive, though I certainly save by not buying baked and packaged goods Making my own organic yogurt which is incredible! High protein, low carb, no grains or flours, home made salad dressing with olive oil and apple cider vinegar.
Wow! Every time I view your videos you seem to hit on subjects relating to us Elder Orphans. One of the best decisions I ever made was to go vegetarian. At age 73 I'm diabetes free and weight is healthy. Change is inevitable....all those old TOXIC habits were beginning to take their toll on my health and life. I appreciate your insight and concern for us ELDER ORPHANS. Peace and Happiness to you.
Thanks for sharing that Thomas! Everyone has to find what works well for them, and it sounds like you found it. Appreciate your kind words - take care!
When I was a child the alarm clock was smelling my grandmother making breakfast. It was wonderful growing up on a farm. You wanted to get up. Alarm clocks are so obnoxious, and you always wake up angry. And this goes on for years. And they wonder why so many of us are in a bad mood.
It’s so easy for me to stay thin. I don’t eat until 1p.m. Always eat healthy because that’s what I like……enjoy exercise. I feel blessed in that regard. At least I have something In my favor lol! I do enjoy fine dark chocolate after dinner occasionally. Gonna go watch RNC!
I gave up all added sugars and processed foods a couple years ago. I buy fresh and make everything myself. I'm on a limited grocery budget of 291 a month and I get plenty of fruits, vegetables, and chicken breast every month and have money leftover that I'll buy canned goods for an emergency. If you get a sweet tooth make fruit smoothies with fresh fruits. Avoid fruit juice because that's just pure sugar.
As you get older you feel the drag of low energy and things you are not able to do. So you have to deal with the cold blooded reality of old age that it is a curse and you have to make the best of it. And your time is limited because one can not reverse the aging process. So you have to make choices. As CS Lewis did before he died. To focus on making a good exit. To give it all you can. As Martin Lutheran King once said, If you can not run, then walk, if you can not walk then crawl. But for God sake keep moving forward.... Cheers!
@@LucitaBrown I was financially comfortable until the infamous lawyer Tom Girardi embezzled all our repair money for his own fancy lifestyle while my fellow Northridge Earthquake victims scraped our money together to try and do our own repairs. I was just about to start keto diet from tomorrow n your video just popped up. What a coincidence! I will be off sugar n carb from tomorrow for the first time in my 57 yrs of my life. Wish me luck.❤ Need to shuffle a bit of my life.
I do wish you luck with this pemalhaden! I myself am not totally off carbs, just sugar, but it is starting to feel great! You can do this! Thanks for watching!
I can tell you how much I appreciate your videos... At the age of 71 and Somewhat physically Challenged, I have been really experiencing some depressiand a lot of loneliness after placing my husband into nursing care facility a few months ago... Between financial concerns and trying to navigate taking care of everything on my own. I get overwhelmed... Being my husband's only caregiver After his stroke three years ago, I tended to neglect my own health and social world... I realize there are so many things that are out of our control as you say... And yes life is about change... I really appreciate what you said, " Make change happen on your own terms" Wonderful advice! Thank you again, And many. Blessings to you❤
When I was a child I was so addicted to sugar it was ridiculous it truly was a drug to me every cent I got I went straight to the penny candy store in the early 60s I eat so much candy I am lucky it didn’t kill me
Hey Allison, l hope you are having a great day! l don't consume processed sugar much. But l eat fruits regularly if that's not enough. l let myself have some bitter chocolate or honey.
Peanut M&Ms were my love along with homemade brownies. Rarely have those things now as I have gone mostly vegan. My boyfriend laughed but I'm 64 lbs. lighter in a year and have a waistline again. I would love it if he lost about 50 lbs. and could get off metformin.
When I was younger, I delivered pizza because my regular sleep schedule was night owl. 👍 I've been wanting to get up earlier to bird watch because it's better early in the morning, AND hitting the beach earlier to beat the crowds, but I think it'd be torture for me too unless the enjoyment could outweigh the difficulty.
I have been doing pretty good quitting a couple of habits, one of them was eating fast now I started eating slower, and I can’t imagine how I was doing that for many many years I feel more satisfied eating less and I am feel calmer, I made it a goal and I am 67 years old, I really like this topic thanks keep up the good work 👍
I gave up alcohol on my 35th birthday and I've been tee total ever since and I I'm 66 and I just never gave it a second thought that whole time I knew i was medicating myself with it so I stopped Same with cigarettes i can happily smoke when im socialising with smokers and never give cigarettes another thought till the next time im with smokers But sugar -forget it - I've been trying to kick it all my life and I just haven't been able to Coincidentally I **tried** to have a sugar free July but meeting friends for coffee and CAKE and I lasted about ten days And unlike cigarettes where I just leave it i use the excuse "well i had cake yesterday so I've broken my July goal" And back I go on the White Death 💀 I know I'm self medicating with sugar like I did with booze but whereas being roaring drunk isn't really socially acceptable you can eat cake all night and no-one even notices
Congratulations! I stopped drinking 24 years ago. It was hard but so worth it! I think getting off sugar is a necessity for me now, but I’d rather eat sugar than ever drink again!
@@Tisha269 for sure! I think I dodged a bullet stopping when I did I have since met people who went over that mysterious line and couldn't stop and ruined their whole lives - they thought they could go back across the line and THEN quit but realised too late it doesn't work like that which is terrifying alcohol is no laughing matter In a way I'm grateful my main problem is chocolate!
@@grai Agree, alcoholism is an awful disease, and it has a horrible impact on the family and friends of the alcoholic. Chocolate can make me sick but I don’t harm anyone else or myself. I’m still going to try to get off the sugar though, I just have to make it through the withdrawal and never touch it again.
I try to think about all the skinny celebrities who have passed on at a younger age than me, all while I stuff my face with cakes and sweets. It's not the answer, but somehow, it lessens the guilt. I have always said the best present anyone could buy me would be a long spell in a health centre without access to food except what was provided, and no access to outside temptations.☹
Oh my gosh. M&M’s are my favorite. I had anxiety when you threw the bag away, because I thought there were some there, lol I am going to stop using sugar today too! I made that decision this morning. Thank you Alison! 🌻
Im off sugar and carbs . Im off Metformin and my blood sugar ave is about 120 . Reversed my type 2 diabetes. I satisfy my urge is to eat Teddies all natural peanut butter along with Smuckers sugar free preserves. No bread just by spoon. Also popcorn if I want a snack. I don't use sugar. Hersey’s makes sugar free dark chocolate morsels. Eat an alternate food to satisfy your sweet tooth. I dont think you need sugar your sweet enough 😊
Change is hard, and I also don't like it. You're correct that it's better if we make the change ourselves. We are here to grow and evolve as beings. If we don't, the God's, the universe, whatever you want to call it, will make the change for us, and that usually isn't pleasant.
@@I_cee_you Love your comment! It is really making me think about change. Thank you so much! I think at one point the universe or God, or whatever you wanna call it was telling me to slow down in my work, and I didn’t and I had a nervous break down. Thank you 🌸
Thanks for the motivation! You mentioned all of the things I need to work on - cold turkey on sugar, writing down my daily expenses to see how much I squander - two things I want to start. In addition, going off bread, which for me is insanely difficult. Being overweight, I know I need to drastically cut carbs. Regarding your dirty dishes dilemma, I assume you may not have a dishwasher. For me, loading the dishwasher is out of sight out of mind, lol!
When I gave up refined sugar, I got my fix by eating fruit. Watermelons, all the natural sugars I could get with the most amazing fruit salads. Some people may say that it's not really giving up sugar, but I love fruit so much. My cholesterol level reduced significantly and I felt great. Today, this is the new beginning.
addiction is a self indulgent misery ... low quality chockies are just BAD. Hope is not a phrase for change rather a swinging door... just toss it and enjoy seasonal fruits. Hi Allison, just stumbled onto this channel and yes, loners are not alone but rather distinct individuals happy enough in our own skin. Since retired found my niche .... gardening proper. As for friends ... they come and go like rain. Cheers from Australia, the Great Southern Land.
Condolences, many of us know that feeling. I'm at the end of my Reeses buttercups bag. I've been weaning off and I'm doing good. Sometimes I put a piece of dark choc with peanut butter, not the same! Im starting to have health issues, time to limit the sugar, who knows, I might fail. Best to just keep trying.
Hi Alison, I laughed because I do the same thing where I go sugar free for a few months and then someone offers me sweets or gives me chocolate for xmas, etc. , and here I go again. Yes sugar is my only addiction and people love pushing sugar onto you and some won't accept no. I wish we would stop gifting chocolates. I have to get on that bandwagon again. Have a lovely day. 🌻
Morning Allison. Loved your introduction. I feel your pain giving up sugar but keep going as giving it up will serve you well. Think I mentioned in a previous blog that I had to give up sugar and it's really hard. I found that having some tinned fruit in fruit juice saved the day on occasions.
Interesting video! And yes, change for the positive is the root to all goodness. I have to control my eating, drinking and gambling lol I go through periods, where I do really well and then I fall off. I lose a ton of weight, then gain it all back.
Going off sugar forever ... other things taste so sweet that you wouldn't think would taste sweet. And anything with sugar I'd too sweet for my taste buds now.
This video amused me. The day before you posted it, I stumbled on my roommates bag of peanut M&Ms and ate like 30 of them-- for breakfast at 6 AM! To give you an idea of how unusual that is for me, on most mornings I'll putter on the interweb, drink some solar-purified water, maybe have some fresh fruit, then do my yoga and meditation, and finally, sun bathe for about 30 minutes or more. Only then, which is usually around noon or later, I'll have my first big meal-- a huge green salad with some toast and beans. I'm lucky, because even though I have a sweet tooth from bad childhood eating, I got into yoga after high school in the mid 1970s, so that helps you detach whenever it's called for. About five years ago I had this pain in my chest, so I looked at my diet and the only thing I could see that was bad was that I was baking and eating a lot of sweets at night after my three healthy meals. I cut that out and within a week my chest pain went away. I later learned that the pain was probably a symptom of a fatty liver, and sweets can cause that because both high fat and high sugar consumption can cause that problem. Pastries are a double whammy. Yes, I did have a moment of panic when I thought of cutting back on sweets, but there are delightful treats you can have that aren't high in sugar. Some of my favorites are sprouted whole grain toast with some olive oil and nutritional yeast, a fruit salad with a honey-rose water syrup, sprouted whole grain toast with natural peanut butter (no sugar no palm oil) and bananas, a peanut butter apple and cinnamon toast sandwich (topping for toast made from either cinnamon sugar or cinnamon and raw honey), or what about a glass of fresh fruit smoothie laced with chia seeds, or a glass of freshly made carrot juice? Sweets but still full of nutrition. I still bake sweets some times, about once a month, and of course for holidays, but usually they are just half batches. Christmas is a two week gorge! But at our age, healthy habits are the way to go. (My diet is vegetarian and overwhelmingly plant-based.)
This video hits close to home! Two weeks ago I moved cross country from Sonoma County, California to Asheville, NC. Everything is full of changes right now and I’m loving it!
@@Contessa998 I love ❤️ Asheville! Very progressive southern City with access to the Blue ridge mountains. It’s stunningly beautiful here. Cost of living is relative. It’s obviously MUCH cheaper than Sonoma County, California. The people are super friendly and welcoming. Southern Hospitality y’all !
I am not a morning person, had to get up at 5-5:30am depending on if I had snow to shovel or a car to warm up and scrape off) for decades for day shift, I hated it. Always exhausted. Switching between shifts did me in. 3-11 shift was my fave, sleep in still get stuff done prior to work, and home by 11:30. I still stay up late, like it when the world is quiet. I had adrenal fatigue, saw a Naturopathic doctor, because of my whole body being a mess system wise, I had gained 30lbs without eating badly, and had insulin resistance. She put me on Berberine, all natural plant based, lost the weight quickly. I have gained a bit back but I was stabilizing my body and am on no meds at age 70. Berberine has no side effects. I only took it until weight was lost btw. If I eat too much chocolate I would gain weight, it was emotional eating. I love chocolate! So moderation is the key to life, my life is empty enough without a treat now and then. I eat pretty organic food, rarely eat out. I eat dessert maybe twice a week nothing outrageous. I don't drink pop, don't smoke, don't drink much only occasionally. I figure a small dessert now and then isn't going to kill me, but I do have discipline. I am dragging myself out of depression from family estrangement and other losses, without pills, so am compassionate with myself. I got into some good habits, drinking more water with a Berkey water filter, making my bed every morning, growing my veggies as hobby and healthy eating. I got rid of my TV and newspapers. I think I'm doing well under the circumstances and the only thing I am struggling with is dealing with clutter. That all began when all the emotional/physical turmoil began. I have had to work through a lot, and God has helped me survive it, so I know when I'm ready I'll get on top of this too. Had to get my strength back in all manner of ways (major surgery 2018) and all alone so sugar... yeah I know it's supposed to be not good to catastrophic for some, but no one's getting off the planet alive I say. I wish you luck Allison, it's not easy... worse than quitting smoking I hear? But if you want it bad enough I guess you'll do it. I prefer as the song says, "a little of what you fancy does you good"... but you have to be disciplined. You know yourself best. 🤞😘
Thanks for your comment LuvBrit! So far, I am doing well off the sugar - Day 8! It's not forever, but my goal is to get to December! Appreciate you watching - take care!
Very wise and excellent advise again. I am finding the need to make small changes getting older. The body changing as we age seems to "tell" us to change as the old toxins we took for years are now beginning to have unpleasant effects to our health. But we must keep trying to listen or things will degrade rapidly. Being older the body is weaker and is unable to tolerate those same toxins.
You’ve inspired me, and I’m going to give up sugar too. Not forever but for at least a month or two. I find it more difficult to make bigger life-changing decisions now at 69 because I figure if I screw up, I don’t have enough time left to correct course and recover. I know that’s probably ‘stinkin thinkin.’
It is very addictive...so is those energy drinks...very hard to stop but just take it one day at a time over time it gets easier to resist...it takes 100 days to change a habit...that's along time
i agree, sugar is so very addictive! When I gave up sugar, I had flu-like symptoms. It was awful. I'll never go back.. not worth it for that small time frame of pleasure. No way. You made good points here. I also gave up meat, dairy, oils, processed foods, low to no-salt, low to no refined flours. Am feeling much better these days.
I’m trying to eat healthier and cutting sugar down by having fewer treats every day. I’m also working on cutting off Pepsi max 100% which is so hard because it’s my favourite thing to have after lunch or dinner, I’ve been drinking it for several years now 😢 that’s my change!
Well, there's a LOT of things that I NEED to change!...and it's pretty overwhelming when I think about it all. I guess more "self care" & a Lot less negative, beating myself up would be a good start! Seriously, I would NEVER treat a stranger the way I often treat myself! And secondly, committing to (first thing) prayer & meditation. I was on a good trajectory with that for a while, & then when 4 of my cats died, literally bk-to-bk (nothing contagious) all different health things, and I really became very depressed. And I also have had Several deaths of people as well, & I've just gotten more & more withdrawn, & reclusive....and hence all my "self care" went out the window too. And there are Many other things going on in my life that I'm not going to write about & start sounding like a whiner. I know that Everyone has their "cross to bear" in life! That's for sure!!!
it's easy to get sidetracked Cheryl! Just start with one thing, then add another in time. One foot in front of the other. Thanks for sharing this! Take care!
Willpower with sugar. Actually l-glutamine I learned on UA-cam helps with sugar cravings and alcohol also. To me is having the willpower to do it and also make the goal with it is feasible.
I wish it was as easy as that Marie! When I am hooked on sugar, I will walk to the store to get it, so just not having it in the house doesn't work. Gum doesn't work for me because I don't like it. But I am on Day 8 off sugar so, going good so far. Thanks for your comment!
@eldergal I really enjoyed exploring your channel and there are many parallels between your circumstances and mine. So I really relate on most topics. I am 70 and live alone with my little dog and take care of every thing on my own and when I ask for help I have 1/2 dozen folks in my community and family I ask so I spread it around and not burdening any one person. And I also try to not ask for anything only once or twice a year. I am active in my parish, see my daughter and her family, see my son’s grown kids but haven’t seen my son in 11 years. I walk daily, eat clean( can’t afford eating out) so prepare all my food including baking bread etc. I have a very manageable garden that I enjoy and a very very small 15 minutes to mow lawn. My new thing is I have been sitting on the fence about getting a new bed. Downscaling from a king to a queen. My old mattress is 21 years old and way past it useful life. So I found a bed at my local thrift shop, going to chalk paint it and get a very reasonably price new mattress- all the first of August. Shaking my whole world up but am excited about the adventure. Thank you for taking the time to produce your videos and thoughtful about the content. You are helping us ole folks and I hope many young ones are curious enough to check your videos out as well. Chao for now!
Is,dark choclate a small amount good for us, best wishes we feel better and dont crave so much what is not good for us,i am taking baby steps to get me happier😂❤❤😂
M&M's....Mmmmmm. My fav... I'm with you...I'm a kinda sugar junkie...Always have been. One time, when I lived in the UK I used to have a whole draw in the fridge, dedicated to chocolate... Though my big 'Go To' when it comes to stuff like this is Biscuits... Especially with a cup of tea... its habit!! All my life Tea & Biscuits... Anyways, even after being diagnosed with borderline diabetes this still never stopped me... I was an addict. If I'm honest. I still am... But then, recently, out of the blue, I came up with my own little Mantra....'4 & 3 Works for Me'...(Let me say that again....'4 & 3 Works for Me'...)... and it really does... Hopefully you won't have dozed off before I get to the main point of my little talk here, but it might help you with your own sugar addiction... maybe... Anyways, how it works is this... From Mon til Thur Im not allowed any sugar, including biscuits, chocs, (Even M&M's) and ice cream, cakes. Stuff like that. Also, I can't drink alcohol... I do enjoy a beer or 3 from time to time...anyways... that's basically it. Oh, except for the good part... on Fri til Sun I can eat and drink 'whatever ' I want... now this is kinda a double edge sword cause I can tell ya now, come Friday, I'm gagging for some sugar and I'll be honest. I do go a bit nuts... enough to realise by Saturday afternoon I feel a bit sick... but like all good troopers I stick with it through til Sunday... which is today by chance. Anyways, even after my dinner just now I still had a Trifle for pudding...did I need it.. NO!! Did I want it...After the amount I'd eaten over the weekend NO!! Did I eat it... oh yeah, for sure as it was part of my deal... 4&3 and all that... anyways, the kicker is... by Monday... the thought of eating anything sugary or having a beer is the last thing on my mind and that's how it goes... I've been doing this for over 6 months and it really works... I've lost a few pounds and feel better about myself... personally I think (for me) the trick is NOT to go cold turkey and to allow me the opportunity to have a treat now and again...also..joking apart... as time goes on... the amount of sugar or types of biscuits that i do eat on my Cheat Days are getting less and less cause I really don't fancy it... well it works for me anyways. Fab vid, Fab topic as always and if you managed to read and even better understand my monologue...Good for you... though maybe you should really try to get out more... lol.. cheers. Andy
My story is so different from most. To try to get healthier, for 4 months, I only ate chicken, fresh or frozen vegetables, no bread, no pasta, no sweets, frozen fruit, oatmeal for breakfast, no cheese, plain greek yogurt. Had my blood work redone. And every number got worse. A1c, up. Bad cholesterol, up. Good cholesterol, down. I was beside myself. Asked my doctor, how. Just HOW? Went back to eating pretty much anything and everything, had blood work redone, everything improved. A lot. And keeps getting better. I always said I was a little off, now I have proof!
@@kimr3755 That is really strange. At least you can eat what you like now. Everyone’s body is so different, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a dr tell me I am in the 1% of people who experience a side effect or have a specific condition. Now I’m used to it.
@@Richard-b4f8b I’m not saying that about all Dr’s . No Dr could figure out why I was so sick. My intestines kept twisting for years and I had 8 abdominal surgeries. I run random temperatures and they didn’t know why, my lymph nodes were severely swollen but tests showed they were fine. I finally went to an immunologist and they found I have two rare genetic diseases one of them is found in one out one million people. Gastroenterologists couldn’t help me, same with ER drs and neurologists. They all did the best with what they learned in Med school. They can’t be expected to know they are dealing with a genetic disease. Most immunologists don’t know how to treat certain genetic diseases, but at least you know what you’re up against, and can inform other Dr’s about your condition. That is what I meant.
Thanks for sharing that kimr! I think it's about balance in what we eat overall. Anything too extreme can cause issues. Also, every person's body is different in what they need.
Kim, I'm with you. I cut out the bread and pasta, ate oatmeal like a nut, had blood work done, and the doc decided to put me on a statin since she still didn't like my numbers. These docs just love those numbers, don't they?? I nearly burst into tears. I'm 70 years old and will from now on by God go right on ahead and make myself some spaghetti if I want it, have a BLT if the spirit moves me now and again, and I will bake myself a small rustic type pie if it sounds good and enjoy the daylights out of it. I've always eaten a wide variety of food my whole life and have cut down on portions. I don't buy junk or fast food anymore. I do walk constantly, and I feel that in particular is well worth doing for as long as I can, as I have steadily lost weight and seem to maintain it even when I overdo. I no longer trust "science," since it's apt to change repeatedly. My bible says in Psalm 90:10 KJV: "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." I've made it to age 70, and I'm fine to go to my true home whenever the Lord calls me.
I make my own dark fragrant brown sugar - unsulphured molasses. Good brand,, here in Te x as Bre'r Rabbit is strong, Grandma's smooth, so mix to your taste. Pour half or more of bottle / s in with cup os sugar,, mix till smooth, then keep pouring in some sugar,, blending. Pure cane sugar to skip the chemicals and GMOs from sugar beets. So fragrant, rich taste, and minerals in molasses. A bat c h lasts me a month, using in mocha mostly. Also, herbal drinks are tasty, health benefits and avoid processed food industry's HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). I use a good American company company like F G O all organic or Nuts, for nuts, seeds mostly -- plus great whole petal hibiscus. Got a 10 pound case for a fraction of supermarket price, better quality. Share and trade with friends more & more. Supplies, skills, things to eat, tools, bits & pieces just sitting in the guest room or garage, someone in their 20s or 30s can use. Even, a younger friend cleared out this storage unit that had crept up from $99 to $119... 189, 203, 217 (plus $11 insurance required) so really $228. Hadn't used anythingfromthere since a renovation 2015, nine years just paying. Now I have more limits on lifting and walking, didn't see how to clear it out.. They'd sent notice up in a few weeks by $50. Wow, $278 - so when my friend had come by to work in the garage, clearing for different workshops we'll set up, the $278 came up. A few trips, he cleared it out. He took boxes of albums to his own home to keep air conditioned, his girlfriend stored furniture and art which I urged her to keep. They'll go among other friends & to antique / vintage stores in exploring small towns and sell things they can't use. Happy to see things in use again and gain clear space too. It's a great sense of connection, tribe, all of us better off, 100% among our group with $0.00 taken by corporations / gov't which appear to be one big ruling class of elites increasingly focused on controlling us. Like the new cars and "smart" devices like tvs, pre-installed with constant surveillance, which gets sold to insurance companies or whoever pays. Learning about that from UA-cam Louis Rossmann. UA-cam is great to find every kind of knowledge, can't imagine going without it now. Only, Louis says what he thinks, can be a bit spicy so best enjoyed by adults. 😊 This got way long. Just wanted to say there's a hack for most anything, like a little tasty dark brown cane sugar vs. industrial HFCS expensive junk food. We pay to subsidize Industrial farmed g m o corn processed into HFCS that's shown to cause inflammation, underlying the major c. o. d. s in America, heart, cancer, obesity / diabetes, brain effects too. Then we pay with medical bills & short lifespan. HFCS, many industrial productsbanned in other developed countrie. They have National Health Services, pay half on medical AND get better outcomes. I'm researching "healthspan" mainly diet changes, getting healthier & sharing. By next year plan a blog and UA-cam.
That storage unit full of good vintage but nothing I ever used went up to $278 a month. Was writing fast & didn't review as usually do -- have to get after the grocery list now to order for delivery tomorrow. Both legs and vehicle prefer this way, lol. 😅 I keep a long high table & metal sofa with waterproof cushions on porch & ask all delivery people to put there. Some would still plop a batch of heavy bags or like an air purifier on the floor blocking the door. Can't physically bend that low,, or pick up much weight, or stay on legs / feet for long. Of course I realize they're all very fit and wouldn't know what it's like. Plus it's reported how these companies push them to move so much merchandise in a shift,, for what I think is skimpy pay. I'd supply good stainless steel vacuum bottles they can fill from freshly filtered cold 💧 every shift, on the clock. You put your company logo on the bottles too. To align my best interests with theirs,, I thought how to make it quicker + easier for them to do what I need, than just go by habit? So I pictured them coming up the stairs, hands full, distracted by the heat and the fast pace, maybe assuming these are all entitled rich who believe they're above ordinary life work like grocery shopping. So pulled the table to nearly block the door, angled just enough so the mail carrier can get by. Plus I set grocery deliveries for mid morning, use a wheeled cart at doorway to transfer everything and wheel in a couple trips back to the kitchen. Then it's easier for the driver to drop everything on the raised surfaces. And soon as any delivery is done I move the big table back to the side. It really works better to look out for everybody. Especially with "all this" every bit of kindness can have a positive ripple effect. Grassroots positive action is overlooked by most media but it quietly builds to turn the tide.
One good thing about being on a strict budget is that the price of sweets, cookies and the like is expensive enough to make wiser, healthier choices. Starting today, my best activity would be riding my electric bike on a daily basis. However, I take Warfarin and my INR has been fluctuating drastically lately, having an accident, bumping my head, needs to be avoided at all costs. Most of the time, instead of eating rubbish carbs, I eat Ezekiel organic sprouted bread, it is also Low Glycemic Index. I also need to discipline myself to sorting at least one box a day to make progress on my Swedish Death Clean Journey. I love being up before six every morning, why waste the best part of the day? I love the fresh air and the sound of the birds......bliss.
Well, I was doing great for about a month, then have had a tooth issue, so am eating soft foods which has thrown me off track. Thanks for asking and for watching Amanda!
I can relate to your sugar cravings -- I've craved sugar all my life also, but I had to give up chocolate a few months ago, because it started having a noticeable bad effect on my health. After Aldi's built a store in my town, I started going there purely for the European chocolate. I'd get 7 bars each time, one bar for each day / night.
This one therapist that I saw for 2 years in Philadelphia, PA told me, I could have been an alcoholic in a previous life, because sugar cravings and alcoholism are related, she said.
Hummm.. I made a comment but it's disappeared. 😮 Anyway, yes.. Sugar is poison ☠ for the body. *Good for you* on quitting. Even cutting back is great. Lmaoo @ the empty M&Ms wrapper. 😅
Thanks microtyger! Your comment wouldn't have been deleted or you current comment wouldn't show up (I don't delete without blocking people). Glad you enjoyed the empty M&M bag!
I stopped sugar for at least 5 years switching to only Stevia supposedly the only healthy sugar substitute. Then started feeling lethargic and have not fully recovered. I did my research to discover our bodies need sugar and Stevia is not healthy. Ugh
I have read about the dangers of several of the sugar substitutes, so this is not surprising to me, Barbara! Sorry that Stevia negatively affected your health. When I do periodically give up sugar, I don't use any substitutes. Hope you feel better eventually. Take care!
M&Ms and Snickers if you turn it around and read right on the back..GMO...have to admit loved both but they just dont taste the same. I wish I could have a real Snickers from the 90s...lately food doesnt taste the same.
Hi, Allison. I just traveled ahead in time five months and came back to warn you that they have two road blocks set up for you down the road. One is at Turkey Junction, and the other one is at Tinsel Town. The barricade signs say SUGAR FREE TRAVELERS SHALL NOT PASS. The little guys at the 2nd check point, wearing E.L.F. badges (Eldergal Lookout Force) have your M.O. They put out an A.P.B. on you and are waiting for you to pass through. They questioned me, but I told them I haven't seen anyone that fits that description. I don't think they believed me. If they stop you, they will use their powers of persuasion to derail your prime directive. They have insidious, tasteful delights they use to tempt people. But don't give in to them. You are stronger than they are. You will need to use your Jedi Mind Trick on them. Just wave your hand and say, I am not the Droid you are looking for. If that doesn't work, you may need to spread your wings and fly high above all of that. That might be your only hope. Good luck. I am rooting for you. Take care, Allison.
This is the BEST John! You have such creativity! I'm well aware of the hazard of Tinsel Town and will allow myself to indulge during Christmas for a week or two. Thanks for making my day with your wonderful storytelling!
Dearest Sugar Free Elder Gal,🍃🌹🍃 I am sorry for your bad breakup. 💔 Put the tissues away and celebrate cutting ties ( like you did on your hoodies ) with the unhealthy relationship with Mr. M&M. Uncle Sugar will love bomb you with his sweetness. Then....you know the rest. You're going to be ok. And don't let Mr. Reese's detour you either. Because he and his buddies stick to gether. " Pssst....Allison...I have something sweet for you..." You just tell them where to go! I know you can do it! Saw you Saturday on the troll patrol. 😂 When I limited sugar it took only two weeks not to crave. I did have some a few grams in foods. My new pastry was whole grain wheat toast ( the 5.00 a loaf kind cuz I'm not rich) topped with 2 tbls of natural peanutbutter the kind like cee-ment. Smuckers. Then a few slivered almonds, a tiny drizzle of honey and sprinkle of cinnamon. Looked fwd to it. Was breakfast with a piece of fruit. A healthy way to satisfy the sweet tooth. Sleep patterns ugh. All night person. Always been since high school maybe bc I worked 3-11 while in school and could not go right to sleep. Later, had my own coffee shop. Opened at 9. Like you said...struggled! Starting today: Trying to accept a new housing situation that I already dislike. Trying to see it as a rest stop to get all 10 toes back on the ground and restore mental and physical well being. Is difficult. Truly grateful for the obvious, a roof. But not home. It is important to be at peace in your safe place. Zero storage. Crucial for my needs. Anyhow Allison, thanks for your musings, truths and generosity of your time. Also taking time to respond to comments. See you Saturday!! 🍃⚘️🍃❤🍃⚘️🍃⚘️🍃❤
Thanks for your humor Inner You! Being grateful for having a roof over our heads is always a good practice. As you say, it's just a rest stop along the journey of life. See you in the Stream Saturday!
I will not get pulled into tele-marketing calls and getting upset in the process. No more excepting bad attitudes from people who really don't care about me. I will stay the course and stick to my plan to walk everyday that I can.
Sounds like good steps to take Rene! Thanks for sharing!
P.S. I bought cans of Tuna instead of Hotdogs at the grocery store today. I did it to make a positive change thanks to your video. You are helping people like me greatly. Thank you, Allison.
Did you not know it was national hotdog day!? Thanks for making me laugh! Appreciate your support so much!
@@eldergalThank you, Allison. Now that you mention it, I do remember hearing something about that. As it turned out, I still had two Hotdogs for supper. I wasn't totally out of Hotdogs. Glad I could make you laugh today. Take care, Allison.
Be caref not to eat too much tuna due to the mercury content, even though it is a step up from hotdogs. How could anyone eat hotdogs?
@sjordan7085 Thanks sjordan.
I enjoy change because it feels hopeful.
I agree bluemoon! It does feel hopeful!
I really needed to hear this especially Today ! Love your content ❤
Glad it was something you needed to hear - appreciate you watching! Thanks DoubleDeeDeeDD!
Giving up toxins, artificial food ingredients, people, situations, diversions etc. Thank you for sharing this with us 💙
Thanks peace!
I quit sugar and carbs almost three years ago. You can do it!
Thanks so much!
I have no sugar around me … not because I don’t want any but weight … high triglycerides and borderline diabetic … not fair! I don’t dare buy any pies cakes cookies candy as I am a sugar-alcoholic (I say) … one bite and I am hooked again! 😢
You got this!
@@Selah1141 Thanks! 😁
I hear you on this Gail - fellow sugar addict here! That's why I stay off it for months at a time. I'm on Day 8 off sugar, so I know it will get easier from here. Thanks for your comment!
My husband brings it in the house and of course….. I eat it
😂 I love your sense of humour with the M&M bag!!!
Your videos are 0:00 always excellent!! Be well.

Thanks for your kind words Brenda! Gotta have a sense of humor about giving up sugar!
Wow you said it so well and inspiringly in a human way I need to let a book company me to bed rather than my cell phone and UA-cam vlogs!❤ Loved this one though, genious!
Thanks so much leonalii! I think it would be great to switch back to reading before bed - I do that sometimes. Appreciate you watching!
Me too, sugar is so addictive - I think about sugar all the time and it's a huge waste of my time. 🍬🧁🍰🎂🥮🍪
Small steps then let it go❤
Great pod cast Allison. It's very helpful. Take care dear lady. I wish for your happiness. Sincerely.
Thanks so much for the support Claude!
Thanks Mary! It sounds like you're living so healthy. Thanks for sharing!

When I was a child the alarm clock was smelling my grandmother making breakfast. It was wonderful growing up on a farm. You wanted to get up. Alarm clocks are so obnoxious, and you always wake up angry. And this goes on for years. And they wonder why so many of us are in a bad mood.
I so agree Lynne! Even when I worked I did not use an alarm clock. Just trained myself to wake up. Thanks for your comment!
Yes agree, I hate being woken by an alarm clock! I am grateful I'm retired now and rarely if ever have to use one.
That sounds so healthy, Kurt! Thanks for sharing this!
Cheers!
Absolutely, keep moving forwarrd! Thanks for sharing Bill!
Today I’m going to give up the fear surrounding my retirement. I will continue to save and plan and have faith I’m on the right track ❤
That sounds great Michaela! Good for you! Nothing to be gained by the fear. Appreciate you sharing!
Yes, I did the same thing. I saved, saved, saved and now I’m retired and financially comfortable.
@@LucitaBrown I was financially comfortable until the infamous lawyer Tom Girardi embezzled all our repair money for his own fancy lifestyle while my fellow Northridge Earthquake victims scraped our money together to try and do our own repairs. It really kicked our butts and it is ongoing, because the city was aware of what he did, so the city started victimizing us (with the likes if Blackrock) coming after us to put liens on our property. We were all selected due to our misfortunes..advanced age, .death in the family, illness, disability, financial hardships. We were cherry picked. I used to laugh that we should be called "The Losers.". He owes over a million to each of us!
A very positive message. Thanks.

I had the same M&M addiction. Im down to a teaspoon in coffee and a sweet treat at night, mostly ice cream now.
You can do it!
It sounds like you found what works for you. Thanks for sharing!
I have to start with no candy, then soft drinks.
I’m glad you found something that works.
Thats the way 👍@Supernova752
I know what you mean karmasong (love the name!)
Thanks for watching!
I have been doing pretty good quitting a couple of habits, one of them was eating fast now I started eating slower, and I can’t imagine how I was doing that for many many years I feel more satisfied eating less and I am feel calmer, I made it a goal and I am 67 years old, I really like this topic thanks keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for sharing this drai! Yes, when people slow their eating, they eat less overall. It's great you found what works for you!
I gave up alcohol on my 35th birthday and I've been tee total ever since and I I'm 66 and I just never gave it a second thought that whole time
I knew i was medicating myself with it so I stopped
Same with cigarettes i can happily smoke when im socialising with smokers and never give cigarettes another thought till the next time im with smokers
But sugar -forget it - I've been trying to kick it all my life and I just haven't been able to
Coincidentally I **tried** to have a sugar free July but meeting friends for coffee and CAKE and I lasted about ten days
And unlike cigarettes where I just leave it i use the excuse "well i had cake yesterday so I've broken my July goal"
And back I go on the White Death 💀
I know I'm self medicating with sugar like I did with booze
but whereas being roaring drunk isn't really socially acceptable you can eat cake all night and no-one even notices
Thanks for sharing grai! I know how difficult it is. Kudos to you for staying off alcohol though!
Congratulations!
I stopped drinking 24 years ago. It was hard but so worth it!
I think getting off sugar is a necessity for me now, but I’d rather eat sugar than ever drink again!
@@Tisha269 for sure! I think I dodged a bullet stopping when I did I have since met people who went over that mysterious line and couldn't stop and ruined their whole lives - they thought they could go back across the line and THEN quit but realised too late it doesn't work like that which is terrifying
alcohol is no laughing matter
In a way I'm grateful my main problem is chocolate!
Found you recently on here & I'm really enjoying your videos ❤
Thanks so much Teresa! Appreciate you watching!
Oh my gosh. M&M’s are my favorite. I had anxiety when you threw the bag away, because I thought there were some there, lol
I am going to stop using sugar today too! I made that decision this morning.

Welcome to the sugarless journey supernova! Good for you! I am on Day 8 and starting to feel better! Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for sharing this! Glad you reversed the type 2 - that's wonderful! Appreciate you watching!
Thank You I know you can do this. Believe me these diabetes medicines are awful,. You never want to be on them. ❤️
Change is hard, and I also don't like it. You're correct that it's better if we make the change ourselves. We are here to grow and evolve as beings. If we don't, the God's, the universe, whatever you want to call it, will make the change for us, and that usually isn't pleasant.
God singular

Thanks for the motivation! You mentioned all of the things I need to work on - cold turkey on sugar, writing down my daily expenses to see how much I squander - two things I want to start. In addition, going off bread, which for me is insanely difficult. Being overweight, I know I need to drastically cut carbs. Regarding your dirty dishes dilemma, I assume you may not have a dishwasher. For me, loading the dishwasher is out of sight out of mind, lol!
Thanks for your comment Jules! Yep, no dishwasher. That's great that you're motivated to work on some of these things. Go for it!

Thanks for sharing this Spirits! Sounds like you found what works for you! Yes, it is a new beginning!
addiction is a self indulgent misery ... low quality chockies are just BAD.
Thanks for your comment, Alice from Australia!

Thanks for sharing this SunFellow! It sounds like you are on the right track! Appreciate you watching!
I needed this😊
Glad it helped, Mary! Thanks for watching!

Cost of living is relative. thanks for talking about sugar
I got down to my idea weight 4 years ago. It's ongoing, but every couple of weeks, I eat stupid things. Balance!
Good for you Rickpa! Hope I can say the same someday! Thanks for watching!
Great Topic on "Change on my own terms." Nice phrase. I am working on simplifying. Glad the bag of MMs was empty 😅 Moderation.
Thanks KeepFocus! I too try to simplify more and more. Well, I did eat the M&Ms first LOL. Appreciate you watching!
So true! Thanks for your comment!
That's great that you're going to give up sugar too, at least for a time. Good luck Donna! Thanks for your comment!
That's great Beth! With me, it's 3 steps forward, 2 back.
I’m trying to eat healthier and cutting sugar down by having fewer treats every day. I’m also working on cutting off Pepsi max 100% which is so hard because it’s my favourite thing to have after lunch or dinner, I’ve been drinking it for several years now 😢 that’s my change!
Hope you can quit the soda Quackity! It's one of the worst things. You can do this!
@@eldergalthank you Allison, I will probably switch to sparkling water.
As far as me, currently working on job hunting. Tough being inside when the weather is nice.
Also learn how to form a new habit and make it a daily easy habit
Good for you on the job hunting hatchet! Hope everything works out!
Thanks
If you do not buy it nor have in your home, you can't eat it, chew gum
Good for you with the baby steps Elizabeth! Thanks for your comment!
Fab vid, Fab topic as always and if you managed to read and even better understand my monologue...Good for you... though maybe you should really try to get out more... lol.. cheers. Andy
Thanks for sharing this Andy! It's an interesting idea. Glad it works for you. I might try it sometime.
God didn't make bad cholesterol. Just more bs from the medical industry.

That is really strange. At least you can eat what you like now. Everyone’s body is so different, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a dr tell me I am in the 1% of people who experience a side effect or have a specific condition. Now I’m used to it.
@@Richard-b4f8b
I’m not saying that about all Dr’s .
It is hard for me to give up a Latte with one scoop of vanilla.
I am wondering whether homemade treats made with either stevia, dates, or bananas would be good substitutes for sugary sweets? How about honey?
I know there are good substitutes. Thanks Arabzene!
This got way long.
Grassroots positive action is overlooked by most media but it quietly builds to turn the tide.
this came up just as Im finishing my 2nd hagen das bar🙄 Um . . thank you for this, perfectly timed🙃
That's funny Carrie - I'm glad you had the treats first! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing sjordan! Sounds like you are making wise choices. Appreciate you watching!
How are things going without sugar? I've tried breaking up with sugar a million times. So hard. Love your channel.♥️🇨🇦
Thanks for your comment John! I can identify with the stocking up on chocolate bars!
Hummm.. I made a comment but it's disappeared. 😮
Anyway, yes.. Sugar is poison ☠ for the body. *Good for you* on quitting. Even cutting back is great. Lmaoo @ the empty M&Ms wrapper. 😅

Just found the channel. Lost my wife last month. Not sure about changes yet.
Sorry you lost your wife Mitch! While you're grieving, I wouldn't make any major changes - just allow yourself to process the grief. Take care!
M and M';s are everywhere.
I was going to say, if that bag of M&M's were full PASS IT OVER HERE.
Take care!
Get Lily’s chocolate chips or Choc Zero! They are so good and no sugar
Thanks for the tip JB!

@eldergal Thank you, Allison. Glad I could brighten your day a little. Have a peaceful night. Take care always.
@dianejones493 Likewise. Thank you, Diane. Happy to cheer you up too. The holidays will be here before we know it.
taper off sugar
I went cold turkey - now on Day 8! I can't taper. Thanks for your comment!
I’m not someone who can taper off of sugar, soft drinks or coffee. One taste of those and I have to have more, I have a very addictive personality.
I couldn't do it
I love sugar ❤

Dearest Sugar Free Elder Gal,🍃🌹🍃
I am sorry for your bad breakup. 😂
When I limited sugar it took only two weeks not to crave.
