    Hey Julie, I can't even imagine why ANYBODY would want to be negative about your videos or work! For me you're the best on the net. I'm loving the sneaky peak you give for this quilt, I cannot wait to see it done. You are an inspiration, please don't stop. Meanwhile, back to me little 331 hexagon project ha ha ha. You make this process look so easy. I like the smaller pieces too. I thought once it would be quicker if I used large papers but found out fast I hated them! They're difficult to hold onto when joining and even basting them is a chore. Lesson learned and money was wasted lol

      The largest I have ever done is 1 inch hexagons but half inch is definitely my favourite size. I am trying quarter inch next but they may be too small and fiddly.

    Well it seems we both have something to be proud of . My old school friend lives in Brisbane, Australia , she too loves sewing and has done quilts. We are the same age , within a couple of months . We met at school and still write to each other . Carry on with the good work . Take care and stay safe . We are both 80 this year .

    I make my knots exactly the same way you do at the end my stitching rows. I use the whip stitch to join my hexies. I used to stitch them together the way that you do but I found that my stitching wasn't tight enough. Whatever works and to each their own. Your quilts are lovely! :D

    i used to use plasters then found a leather thimble with a piece of metal sewn into it its great and when it gets too floppy as leather stretches i just sew it up a bit tighter ! i have a bent tip on my sewing finger too and it goes numb if i do too many hexi
    beautiful quilt by the way, nice to see a different pattern as well 👍i have just finished off a superking 2" hexi 😵‍💫

      Thanks for the thumble tip but I have had no problems with using plasters even though I go through a lot they are worth the cost. My bent fingers dont go numb which is good. Congratualations on finishing you hexagon quilt. Any quilt making is an achievment so well done.

      @@juliethornton My pleasure . I have two on the go , one 5" squares , machined together and one made of 'hexies' , hand sewn together . I used to make wedding dresses for a particular shop in London , mostly dupion silk , so am using off cuts from them , could'nt NOT use them . ! What you are doing is fabulous , and you have loads of patience . Look forward to seeing more .

      Gill you are definitely a better seamstress than I will ever be. I prefer doing hand sewing as using a machine is too quick. Needless to say I have endless amounts of patience. Talking of London....years ago I used to make papier mache tailors dummies for a London company.

    Hello Julie,This quilt is incredible!. Doesn't hurt that it is greens, my favorite color. Did you say you used 1/2 inch hexies? I want you to know I have trouble with my fingers, they are numb all the time. It makes hand stitching rather difficult, but I persevere. You mentioning your arthritis in your fingers was actually encouraging to me to keep on. I LOVE counted cross-stitch and hand piecing and now I am hooked on EPP. So...if you can make those huge 1/2 inch hexagon quilts, I will be most happy making my small cushions and small projects. I have not tackled 1/2 inch but only one time. Just to small. I enjoy 5/8 inch very much. I subscribed and will look forward to seeing more of your wonderful projects in your videos. Take care, be safe. I am in the US in Tennessee. Do you have e-mail? Til next time.

    Hello there! I have been looking at this pattern for awhile. I love the blue color of the original one, but I wanted a green one. I am not good a matching fabric, but I love the colors of yours. Would you mind if I used the same colors you used in your quilt. I wanted to get your permission. Also I have been watch all your videos and love them! I have learned some new tricks. Keep up the good work and can't wait to see your finished La Passion quilt. Beautiful!

      Hi Janice. of course you can use the same colours I did. I love blue but had just done 2 x turquoise based quilts so wanted something different. I am glad my videos have been of some help. Next week I am starting a series of basic hexagon lessons. Good luck doing your La Passion....it is certainly a worthwhile quilt. I will have pics and a video up of the finished patchwork on Thursday.

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  3 роки тому

      I am not sure I understand what you want to know....the diamonds are made by just going around layer by layer...the finished diamond is then sewn into the existing gap in the patchwork.

    • @smileytow1925
      @smileytow1925 3 роки тому

      After you see the yellow middle and the dark green hexis then the light green has Three extra hexis added to each end. Then the white hexis just go all around it. But adding those three at each end makes the diamond shape. Did that make sense? ❤️

    Hi Julie just a question. I am wanting to do a hexie quilt in about four colours, how do you work out how much material you need?

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  2 роки тому

      Hi Lorraine. In order to answer your question I would need to know what size hexagons you are going to use and roughly what size the finished quilt will be. Feel free to email me if you prefer....the address is above. Thanks

  • @barbarapalmer1211
    @barbarapalmer1211 3 роки тому +1

    Hi love could you tell me if using a 1”hex would you use a 2 and a half square piece of material and do you leave it a square or do you cut a round the hexie

    • @juliethornton
      @juliethornton  3 роки тому

      Hi Barbara. Thanks again for watching. I don't currently have any 1 inch hexagons but based on the fact that for half inch I use 1 and a half inch squares and for 3/4 inch hexagons I use 2 inch squares I would think that using 2 1/2 inch fabric squares for 1 inch hexagons would be right. I leave them as squares. I have a video on how I cover hexagons and show 1/2 and 3/4 inch hexagons being covered. No need to waste your time cutting the edges as no one will ever see them and it would give you less fabric to use when basting them. I hope this helps.
