Thank-you so much for the colouring page, especially! I have my flowers sewn together already, but it will help so much with designing the paths and the whole quilt layout!
Thank you for all of your help. I am just getting started on epp, but I am doing the machine kind, but all your suggestions are wonderful. I am 70 and need to see me get the hexagon done. But I love all of your knowledge. Thank you so much
Hi, Jayne! Thank you very much for getting me started! My Grans used to all do this, but they never taught me how. Well, I'm glad to learn now! This looks like a lot of fun!
Thank you, Jayne! I was able to print your 1” hexi at 200% and create 2” hexagons. 🙂 I only had 4 on a page, but for a beginner like me, a bigger hexagon is less intimidating in the quantities needed.
I love your video. So glad to see how to make hexagon templates. Can’t wait to get started. You make it so easy. Thank you for this wonderful information. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the explanation on how to cut the hexagons. I had been cutting mine out with scissors and getting the wrong size, etc. Will use your method from now on.
This was awesomely detailed! Nothing vague or left to the imagination. I’m trusting all your vids in this to be equally detailed and helpful. You’re an answer to a prayer.
@ancntdrgn I'm so happy you like the video and super glad you like my detail. Your comment is an encouragement to keep doing what I love to do. So thank you for taking the time to comment. 💕😁
The print one cut several method works great but I don't glue. I staple. Line up the sheets and hang over the edge of a table then staple. In the case of hexies I put a staple in each hexie. As I cut apart I add staples in the inner hexies. No shifting. For the long straight lines I use a metal ruler and an exacto knife. Sure saves money!
Will you please make a video with instructions on the process of making the sandwich and finishing the quilt? I made a 2,400+ hexies GMFG in the nineties when you had to do EVERYTHING by hand. Maybe you have a new and easier method to do it. I am so excited to make small projects with your instructions on the EPP method. Thank you!!!
Thanks for your suggestion, Adela! I'm planning a video that will show step-by-step how to sandwich and finish an EPP project. In the meantime, you can check out my Chair Pad Project video (ua-cam.com/video/LmPxKsH-vl0/v-deo.html) in which I show the entire process, including how to sandwich and finish that EPP quilt project. Hope that helps! :D
I save small pieces of cardboard, that I get in my can cat food. It is a divider for the cans. You can also save the cardboard that comes in material flats. I have used these all for years. Thanks for this awesome video.
Hi there. Very good video, but I could not find the template, let alone download it? I joined the website and still cannot download or could not find the template???? You don't get what is offered in the video????😐🙄😒
Thanks for reaching out! Right now, you can get the templates when you join and participate in the community. It's a bit complicated, I know. I'm working on making it a simpler process. Thanks for your patience! :D
So glad you like them! I'd love to make a block tutorial for you. Can you please describe what you'd like me to show so I have a better idea of what you're asking? Thanks!
Thanks for providing the templates and easy to follow instructions. I have one thing I dont understand about gluing all the pages together. I dont see why we glue all 4 sides of the card stock together if the next step is to then cut 2 of the 4 glued edges off.😮
Here is the new link for the templates... www.makerjayne.com/hexagons There was an old link in the description before. Enjoy! And if you have any more issues, you can reply to my email anytime. :D
I wouldn't have the patience to do it this way. I invested in Fiskar hexi punches. They weren't all that expensive. I go to the Dollar Tree and purchase 500 index cards for a dollar. I make TONS of these in minutes. It just depends on personal preference. The way shown here is really good too.😊
That's great, @Proverbs 31. There are many ways to make your own EPP templates. This is just one method. Thanks for sharing your method with the rest of us!
Because I don’t have a printer, I’m even more frugal: I punch my 1” hexies using the Fiskar’s “XL” punch from those free cardstock flyers I receive too many of in my mail (usually Realtors’ ads). But I’m finding my punch getting a bit dull from repeated use. And of course you cannot get other EPP shapes like pentagons or triangles or kites or octagons, so Jaynie’s method will definitely work best for those. My Public Library offers some printing services, so I’m going to search the internet for downloads of those shapes and take some cardstock to the Library to have them print some for me. I love the glue-the-edges method she shows to maximize the printed pages, so you can get 4-for-one to cut down on toner costs. Every little bit helps!
Yes sounds much easier - I don’t have the patience to cut them by hand. I’ve owned a die cutting machine for 15 years and have several hexi and diamond dies. Makes it a breeze. I can cut about six hexi papers at a time with one pass through the die cutting machine.
I love using card stock for many things. I will definitely try it with these templates. On the coloring page, do you know how many hexies are on there?
Sorry about that! I recently did a website update and must have missed this video during my links update. I just updated the link in the video description and here it is, as well... www.makerjayne.com/hexagons Thanks for letting me know! ❤️
how in the world do you sew hexies together i have tried and not working for me please help i have all these flowers made and sewing by hand is near imposible? Rita New Hampshire
I sew them together by hand using the traditional English paper piecing method. I'm not sure if they can be sewn together with a machine without taking the papers out - which would defeat the purpose and no longer be English paper piecing. Here's video in which I show how to hand stitch them >> ua-cam.com/video/CHBO2AIjbd4/v-deo.html
Ok. I'm struggling.. How could i use a drawing compass and a regular ruler to make these? Im struggling. I don't have a printer. I have a scan and cut.. I just can't figure anything out. Lol.
Hello! Great video!! You give such easy and simple instructions to follow and that’s very much appreciated, there’s nothing worse than starting out being frustrated and confused on a new project!! 😵💫🫣😤😭 I’m getting excited to begin my first Grandmother’s Garden Quilt but first, I am watching lots of videos to make sure I get it done right!! Your video is tremendously important as I have not watched a video on how to make and cut out the hexes!!! Sew, thank you sew much for the informative video!! Take care of you!! 😊
This was one of the best English paper piecing videos I’ve seen so far. Thank you
Wow, thank you!
@@MakerJayneI can’t find descriptions at all he brought Tom. How do I do that

Thank you for the clear instructions and the templates. I got to go check out more of your videos.

Much appreciated the tutorial and templates!!
Glad you like them!
I really appreciate the cutting tips.
Good. I’m glad they are helpful. 😊

Oh my! I think this video was just what you needed. 😉🪡🧵
Great tips, thanks! I may need to try the rotary cutter method. When using scissors sometimes the edges get bowed, when not cutting carefully
Glad it was helpful!

Love it!! Thank you! I Pinterest to know what program you use as I would like to make 1 1/2 inch hexagons
I use a free program called Inkscape to make shapes.
Do you have a 1/4 inch printable? Or know where I could get one similar to yours?
Unfortunately, I do not have a 1/4 inch printable. I have yet to work with this size. So I don’t know where you can get them. Sorry. 😊
I would love to find one too!

You’re welcome 😊 The glue is used to keep the sheets from moving around while cutting. You could staple them together, instead of using glue.
Can you use cue cards😊 Not having any luck downloading the hexagon printables

Yes I do! There are 613 hexagons on the coloring page of the free EPP templates. Hope that helps! :D
Did you use an older blade? I've never cut paper with my rotary cutter. I figured that was a "no-no" just like with fabric scissors...?
Yes, use an old blade for cutting the paper. 👍🏻 It’s a great way to get extra use from them before throwing them away.
@MakerJayne
Awesome thanks! 😊

This is where a turn table cutting mat would be very helpful.
Great idea, Jana! Yes it would.
I bet with a little ingenuity, one could be made. Maybe mount the mat on a fidget spinner or something. That would be very handy.
I tried to receive the butterfly and flower temps but didn’t receive them.
I sent you a Facebook message. :)
Where is the download for the paper?

Ok. I'm struggling.. How could i use a drawing compass and a regular ruler to make these? Im struggling. I don't have a printer. I have a scan and cut.. I just can't figure anything out. Lol.
You could try searching for a video tutorial on how to draw a hexagon with a ruler and compass. Perhaps that will point you in the right direction. 🤔
My printer is not accurate to 1" and i can't change to percentage enough to change the size 😢
Try looking for a “no scaling” option in the print window.
After trying to make a stencil with plastic place mats… this is by far so much easier 😂
Glad it helped you! :D
I just watched this video. What do you do if you don't have access to a printer?
That's a good question, Teresa. Do you have access to a local print shop or office supply store that can print it for you?
@@MakerJayne unfortunately no
You don't say what size blade you have in your rotary cutter. What size is it?
I used the large size 60mm.
My great grandmother would use my great grandfathers empty price Albert cans for templates
What a good idea!
went to Walmart after holidays and get the big cards for a nickel
Can't beat a great deal! That's a fantastic idea, Jane. Thanks for sharing with us!
I purchased a punch & i use my junk mail and old holiday cards.

Another option is an office supply store that offers copy/printing services.
Yea my momwent and did that for me
