Those who are planning on doing Bachelors in English Literature as a literature student I will suggest you few things before you choose English honours.
Everyone has a misperception about English literature, people assume that we will get to study the same English as we study in our school and high school. Remember English literature is a whole history, where you have to learn Indian classical literature, European literature, american literature, as per centuries like 16th,17th centuries something like that and so on. Where we learn about their culture, their ethnicity, their believes and political issues of those times. So basically you'll be able to study history, political issues, theology, mythology,.prose, poetry, critical analysis everything. You'll read one whole noble for one syllabus, if you got 8syllabus, you'll study 8 nobles for syllabus if you're creative at writing it will be a benefit, we can't sustain from copying the notes, it will not help you grow, career wise. I'm not here to frighten you, but to give you a reality check, study only if you're interested, that way you'll able to catch up well.
Ps-I have seen a lot of people commenting about grammar. We don't study grammar in English literature.

English was not the subject that I kept in my favourite list, but observing the increased demand of English in contemporary society, I decided to go with English Literature as my graduation subject. Initially, I stumbled on many occasions, I was even unable to pronounce any word properly. But after putting all my effort in reading text and doing learning practice... I have become one of the best student in my class. The professors have all their appreciations for me.
My message is that Just don't give up. Even if you fear it, instead of running away, confront it. Definitely you will get success.

Best words i've heard on the internet today, " English sikhna aur English literature alag cheez hai." Exactly! So many people get confused between the two. I have seen so many students speaking horrible broken English with terrible accent and pronunciation, yet they are students of English literature, which is quite an irony in itself. Please do not, i repeat DO NOT take up English literature if you do not have a good hold over the language. You'll be at complete loss in near future. Also, DO NOT take up English literature for the sake of "show off". That's a major problem with a great number of students in India.

Gaaon mein kahan padhne dete the jidd k sath itna sa BA pas ho gya.. uske baad ab tak nhi padh payi... To abi main MA English karne k vare mein soch rhi hu.. muje literature padhna bahut pasand hai... Literature mein padhayi kar k main 12 BA students ko tution to de hi sakti hu... Abi tenth tak English main teach karva leti hu... I agree there is a huge difference between learning to speak English and study English literature. Being a English literature tutor I come across students who opt for English lit. just because they couldn't get admissions in their desired discipline or just because they want to improve their speaking skills. I think they should do a little research before opting for English lit.

Yeh.it is very difficult to score marks.I M also English Literature student.and I m MA 2nd year student.
English literature is like a drug to me , the more I read about it , the more It makes me dive into it🥴😷 the people who say that English is hard , nah bro .... Here is a tip , if you are studying a poem , then try to understand what kind of poem is this , then read about the writer and his/her background, then you will know what he/she was thinking about this poem , then try to find out what type of symbols are used like irony or metaphor etc. Then understand if there is a hidden meaning behind the normal word . When you find out all of these, then go for the theme and why this poem was written or what this poem indicates..... then it will be as easy as abcd to make notes out of it by your own when you are about to answer a question in exam .......think critically , dive into it , dont read blindly 😊😇
