I love the Career Path videos on this channel. It helps students like myself to know how a college degree in a certain discipline can translate to certain job prospects in the real world.

I had a high school teacher discouraging us from majoring in journalism, she would tell us just write. Fast forward 20 yrs, texting and social media have really screwed up my writing skills. My grammar is awful. I want to ake a few english courses to spruce them up, this was encouraging to watch. It will not be a waste of my time.

Lol, I use to have perfect hand writing, I use to love writing, everything I wrote to people were handwritten then computers, laptops became the official way of sending things to people because anyone can read a typed text but not everyone can read handwriting. Long story short I learned touch typing and barely used handwriting anymore, now fast-word to 2022 my touch typing skills have improved significantly but my writing has decreased, it is awful and when I write for long periods of time my hand starts to hurt. I think handwriting is a dying art because people only use it to do small tasks like take notes, shopping, etc but not for anything major.

It would be nice to including the avg number of job postings and salary info. These shows potential career paths but it can be very challenging if everytime you apply for one of these gigs you have to compete with hundreds of other qualified candidates.

I majored in communications thinking it was sexier and more employable than majoring in English. I fully regret this and would undo my years of being a communications major to be an English major nerd any day.

Wow the lady was so cool, she's definitely on the right track, this video truly inspired me, I love languages too and writing, I would love to persue a career in that field but we're often told that we're going to starve with a degree on our hands, especially in my country South Africa where unemployment among the youth is at its peak.

Most jobs want experience, I love this video but realistically if you don’t have experience jobs won’t hire you. I have an English degree currently and it’s not that easy

Same. I just finished college with an English degree and have been sending my resume everywhere like a mad woman. The few interviews I’ve been able to get the first thing they’ll say is “so you mainly focused on school huh?” I have a few things listed as experience on my resume but because they were short lived ( a few months due to being summer internships) I guess it’s not enough. Even securing a freaking fast food job is hard for me, I’m guessing the bachelors is like an over-qualification. Idk. 😩

@@dernddy I heard back from one job yesterday! However, it wasn’t for technical writing, it was for a sales position. Good pay though! Some companies are simply looking for people with degrees, this job had nothing to do with my English degree and they called me back. It is actually higher paying than any other position I applied for. Starting pay, 77k. Able to be promoted twice within the first 18 months and can eventually become CEO of a location after some years. Pretty crazy!
