I scored 90% in boards from bio stream and still choose English literature bcz I love this subject. And to be honest I don't regret it at all infact I am very happy and satisfied. So, I don't care what people say , just do what you want and you will surely succeed. No goal is big or small if you give your 100%. This is the most important lesson of my life.

I took English in masters Despite being topper in Sciences till graduation and also qualified NET. But yeah I can sense people's attitude when they hear me say I'm doing MA English. They be like , galat track pe chalaa gya ... Even dukan wala gives me a derrogatory look sometimes😂😂 But my soul is relieved from Warm Hole and happily living in Surreal World.

Don't stress if you couldn't understand some things just try to understand whatever u could. Also take MH Abram's book on literary terms. Once your course will start you'll start getting hold of it gradually and with 2nd and 3rd reading of above mentioned books you'll understand most of them. Just don't panic at the initial stage coz the students coming from English honors background will have some prior knowledge but you'll acquire that with the passage of time. 2 years is enough for learning eng. Lit. All the best..

Everything is relatable. My parents tease me whole day...what do you read in English...you've chosen an easy subject, where you get to read stories and get pass without studying much. It like: haan marxism,feminism, meme theory toh Koi aur padhega. Fortunately I qualified NET of Dec 2019, but still Koi bhaav nhi deta ghar mei. They are all like: kia kya hai tumne....job toh fir bhi nhi mili....bass padh rhi ho....padhte jaa rhi ho, kuch hona nhi tumhara....prepare for upsc idiot! Heck!!

Like knowing the history and mythology of different culture, and then almost everything about politics, economics and what not needs to be read for critical analysis.... This one's so relatable. We as English students are tired of listening to all of this like for others it's not a proper subject but just studying stories.
Theories are very tough to understand, I can relate to it as I graduated with english hons and now I am pursuing Masters, it's more that what it meets the eye. We don't write critical analysis or summary of poems, we also have to come up with great ideas to write our term paper and dissertations.

Is it the right decision to take an MA in English literature?
We can't put all our blames on people who stereotype us. There's a reason why they stereotype us. After all, our Education system is equally responsible behind this creation of stereotype regarding us English Honours students. Because being an English honours students, we shouldn't only be taught Literature (i.e., also, mostly British literature) and literary theories, but we should also be equally taught ELT (English language teaching) in order to make us Professional IELTS, TESOL, and CELTA trainers. As English honours students, we should be further taught Translation Studies in English in order to make us Professional translators and Interpreters. As English honours students, we should be taught Advanced Grammar in English and Linguistics in order to make us Professional Linguists, English Grammarian and Proofreaders. As English honours students, we should be taught Creative and Professional Writing in English, so to make us Professional Script Writers, Copyeditors, Subeditors, and various Literary Agents. These are some of the inseparable sub fields of English that should be introduced in English honours syllabus curriculum, so to prepare us for on demand industry jobs other than just Academia. Or, in other words, a Degree in English, should be more Professional one than just a creative one with changing times. Until and unless, it doesn't happen, we are gonna face such silly questions.
I have done english honours..but my relative don't understand the quality of english honours...they compare it with B.A..this is the reason i attained less marks in it..just 58 %

Feeling shame.. When I being a English honours students can't speak fluently in English... For that reason people insult me many time.. 😔😔
Theories are very tough to understand, I can relate to it as I graduated with english hons and now I am pursuing Masters, it's more that what it meets the eye. We don't write critical analysis or summary of poems, we also have to come up with great ideas to write our term paper and dissertations.

My school studies were completed in Hindi medium and my graduation was completed from English medium media.
Because my school was a Hindi medium, I faced lots of problems with my career..
So now I want to break this language barrier which I have to face.
Please suggest my.. Is it the right decision to take an MA in English literature?

We can't put all our blames on people who stereotype us.
There's a reason why they stereotype us.
After all, our Education system is equally responsible behind this creation of stereotype regarding us English Honours students.
Because being an English honours students, we shouldn't only be taught Literature (i.e., also, mostly British literature) and literary theories, but we should also be equally taught ELT (English language teaching) in order to make us Professional IELTS, TESOL, and CELTA trainers.
As English honours students, we should be further taught Translation Studies in English in order to make us Professional translators and Interpreters.
As English honours students, we should be taught Advanced Grammar in English and Linguistics in order to make us Professional Linguists, English Grammarian and Proofreaders.
As English honours students, we should be taught Creative and Professional Writing in English, so to make us Professional Script Writers, Copyeditors, Subeditors, and various Literary Agents.
These are some of the inseparable sub fields of English that should be introduced in English honours syllabus curriculum, so to prepare us for on demand industry jobs other than just Academia.
Or, in other words, a Degree in English, should be more Professional one than just a creative one with changing times.
Until and unless, it doesn't happen, we are gonna face such silly questions.
