Alternative Nation in 1999, what a great period for music. Stereolab, Bobby Conn, Sunscreen, Mansun, Placebo, Mercury Rev, Sigur Ros, Flaming Lips, Pavement, The Beta Band ... never missed a single show.
I love this song because it introduced me to Stereolab. Late one night broadcast on "Alternative Nation" on MTV. The video is excellent. Thanks... Remember Stereolab have just issued a DVD!
this song was my first exposure to the Lab in 2000...I couldn't love a band more. Mary's backups on INFINITY GIRL is what locked me in. Dots is my fav album...Soundust is brilliant as well
Same. This is my second fav after Dots and Loops. My first exposure to the group was in the 90s, when I needed to select one more album from columbia house, and I picked Emperor Tomato Ketchup on it's name alone. It was a wonderful random choice. They, along with Pizzicato 5, were (and are) my "happy bands" amidst all the gothic and industrial music I listen to.
HAHAHAHAHA.....Columbia House!!!! Stellar....Funny...i always saw that album in the alt section at HMV....late nineties....three years later i saw cobra phases as a new release and decided to give it a try based on the cover of ETK. Actually....what hooked me was Mary's back ups on Infinity GIrl.
Mary definitely completed their sound. I remember being shocked when I saw her death reported on MTV News with Kurt Loder. I'm not sure if the shock was due to the fact that MTV was mentioning them, or that I was watching MTV.
prying eyes same with me....Muchmusic anounced it on The Wedge...alt video show...right after i bought Soundust...another masterpiece. Watch Leaticia's Red Bull music lecture...she's such a great person...I learned so much about the band...her and Tim. You'll be surprised at some of the details...it's worth the watch. Enjoy
Cobra is still my favorite lp.... the interplay that goes on between The Shah and Mary's voice is phenom
The Groop's most challenging but most rewarding listen. I especially love the Beach Boys influenced parts
Only just Discovered the 60s band The Free Design
And i can see why they was a massive Influence on Stereolab

I was in college with no cable by then, but a cute boy played me this album in 99. Amazing times.
Este é uma das melhores músicas do Stereolab. E esse vídeo é genial. Tudo é genial em Stereolab.

Sal Puma I've got it qued to play, I'll check it out when I have a bit of time.
Dots and Loops was my first and still favourite then Cobra Phases.
The first time I heard this my mind got bigger.
Every now and again Stereolab drops large..
Eu sempre fui fascinado com o título desse CD desde que foi lançado: "Cobra and Phases" 🤯
Música genial, nostalgia da minha adolescência
ABBA melody at 2:50!! Stereolab rules!!
which ?
Dancing Queen :)
And at that moment in the video there's an actual dancing woman. Coincidence much?
Yeah, "alternative nation" was a great guide to discover great and not very known bands and music. Sadly, I think it´s not broadcasted anymore.
My lovely track!
