  • I decided to resume construction of a Freebird I started 20 years ago, so I purchased a new PAW 40TBR for it. I phoned Tony Eifflaender in Macclesfield and my nice shiny new engine was delivered a few weeks later.
The first runs were performed with a 12x5 Grish prop (didn't have the recommended 11x8) and the recommended break-in fuel mix. I decided that all future runs will be with a much sturdier mount, as the clamp style mount vibrates a lot. These things are powerful!

*For easy starting use a propane torch and heat up the upper head for 10 seconds for MUCH better results. Also use more compression.*

That locking bar is nice. Never saw one on a PAW

Why are you not hooking up the fuel line?

Nice vid, great engine. Interested in your comment about larger diesels needing more comp to start. Some small ones too, my 1cc MP screamer is the same.
Waiting delivery on. K&B 40: dieselised. Could be a belter,
    john

Its called a “Valvespout”. It’s available from Eric Clutton (Dr. Diesel).

All it needs is the needle to be opened a bit. One turn should do it. Dude it's too lean.

Diesels run remarkably lean. But in this case, it’s under compressed for most of the video. Diesels run 3-4 times longer on the same volume of fuel because kerosene deliverers more economy and BTU’s than Glow fuel.
I’ve got a few Russian .15 size diesels that will turn a 10-6 prop around 9600 RPM, virtually the same as a Traditional FOX 35 Stunt engine. This same diesel will run 6mins on 1oz of Diesel. The Fox would need nearly 4 oz to do the same running time.

Nar, it's too lean for that comp setting. All that fiddling with the comp screw is totally unnecessary. By the way you shouldn't be wearing soxs and those sandals unless you're a POM. Big fashion mistake! 🙂
