One in ten people older than sixty-five, and nearly half of those older than eighty-five, have Alzheimer's disease. It's widely accepted nowadays that memory loss comes with age. Alzheimer's currently robs at least 15 million people of their identity worldwide. This book makes the controversial claim that eating meat may contribute to the development of the disease. In Dying for a Hamburger, Dr. Murray Waldman and Marjorie Lamb draw upon documentary evidence, historical testimony, and inspired speculation to suggest that Alzheimer's: - is a new disease-elderly people did not experience symptoms of dementia in such alarming numbers in the past began appearing after modern meat production techniques were introduced- has soared in nations where these techniques are used- hardly exists in cultures where meat consumption is low- has been attributed to many deaths that are actually the human equivalent of mad cow disease.
They present startling evidence that Alzheimer's may be part of a family of diseases linked to malformed proteins known as prions. They hypothesize that the conditions that allow these brain disorders to be triggered are similar. They propose that mad cow, its human equivalent, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), other encephalitic diseases, and Alzheimer's may have a common antecedent. We know that a form of CJD is transmitted to humans who eat contaminated beef. And we are becoming increasingly aware of the need to monitor the meat supply closely to avoid a repetition of the mad cow scare in Great Britain. But suppose that Alzheimer's also involves prions--the evidence that points in this direction is growing. And suppose that Alzheimer's is also associated with tainted meat. This conclusion seems far-fetched--at first. In this compelling book, the authors come to a frightening conclusion about our seemingly insatiable hunger for hamburgers. Destined to provoke heated argument, this book is definitely food for thought.

Great interview. I'm almost 80, a wfpb vegan, and on no medication. I think the hardest part about being wfpb is the resistance from friends and family to embracing this lifestyle. Remember vegan is not a diet it is a philosophy. But the healthiest way of eating is a whole food plant-based diet consisting of legumes grains greens fruits veggies mushrooms nuts seeds herbs and spices in a variety of each and that's vegan as fuk! When you truly embrace the philosophy of veganism you will always be vegan and you will find a way to make the diet and lifestyle work. It would help probably to befriend someone who is vegan that you look up too if you can. Best wishes in your endeavor and don't be afraid to fail it's okay we all do. That's the path to success. And that is having the capacity for Applied failure. So keep learning and keep trying and if you need additional help then maybe consult with someone who practices lifestyle medicine :-) or reach out to the community! Thank you so much for sharing and your honesty

Educational platforms can help, find something that engages you and experiment with it. What works for me may not work for you. All I can say is eat as clean as you can,eat fresh, raw, organic if possible, cut down as much processing foods as you can. Reduce things from your current diet slowly if needed. Removing dairy from my diet helped me clear a long suffering signus and breathing condition. Hope what ever you do helps in a positive way for you and the world outside your door.

What is odd is that people will try to feed their dog an excellent diet and only get a walk for because of the dog but for themselves, - they will eat anything and everything if it is advertised and think the pills from the doctor will let you do this forever. As it seems the majority are not only overweight but OBESE, they fit right in, don’t they?
With the amount of strokes, heart attacks, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, asthma, GI tract problems, constipation, kidney disease, ulcers, not to mention frequent infections - how can anyone think this is the good life? Yes, these things do not all happen to anyone person usually but it ain’t much to look forward to. Oh, and I forgot all the joint problems from obesity!!! If one hopes to see grandchildren, are you going to be able to help your kids or grandkids or does this make you a burden? Anyone have “to become a burden” on your bucket list? It happens but it does not have to happen if you take care of yourself by being a dedicated Whole Food Plant-Based vegan.
To put up with the above, the Standard American Diet has to be addictive. Is being “addicted”, on anyone’s bucket list too?
Other things less frequent in vegans is depression, trouble sleeping. The one product I do buy more of now than before I was vegan except for fruits and veggies and grains is TOILET PAPER! Definitely no constipation here.
Been a vegan starting about 10 years ago. I was in a wheelchair. Got out of it in 3 weeks. I am 70 now and take no medications. On average, I walk 4 miles a day. Do some yoga and stationary bike if the weather is too cold or hot.

I became vegetarian in my country Argentina when I was 17., it wasn't easy, believe me., all they eat there is meat and on top of that my aunt used to work in a hospital in the department where they do plan the meals and all this ignorant dietitians told her that I was going to died because of the protein myth. I became plant based in 2003 after watching a video from dairy industry, I cried and couldn't believe how humans can be so cruel just to make money. I studied nutrition in 2011 and attended seminars from Caldwell Esselstyn, Collin Campbell, Neil Barnard and more and after I got my diploma I started doing consultations. Now I teach Yoga because it was so frustrating to deal with people that just believe what they hear on tv, and do what others doing without thinking about it. What I do now is that usually I talk about nutrition at the end of the class.
I am turning 67 soon and if I press the accelerator in the class no one can follow.
One think that wasn't mention in the video is the supplementation with b12 and also if you don't expose yourself to the sun to take d3.

He is a great Ohioan, which is where I was born. His story is very inspirational but also partly sad story about the issues that family members have. I want my parents to live longer and healthier as there is the usual suffering at degenerative diseases we see of people eating the standard diet, at the age of 80.
For one, my mother, father and brother all have hearing problems. I have a very hard time believing this is just 'old age'. A long term study of mental health in patients in two hospitals, showed diet had an enormous benefit. There are flaws with the study and there's only one, because it's not randomized effectively, but it's all we have.
Some things can't be changed but it is clear that diet can fix blood pressure for the vast majority of issues, allowing them to come off of the medicines completely, but only if they are strict on the diet and with doctor oversight.
Well, I have many things to change about myself, many, and it is said we need to start with ourselves. Still, it's painful I can't help my loved ones reduce suffering.

In my early prayer this morning, I asked God to tell me (generally speaking) what he would have me to know, and later on decided to UA-cam the difference between veins and arteries. Your story was playing silently in closed caption until I pressed it to hear what you were saying. I do eat fruits and vegetables, but probably not enough along with things that I know are not healthy for me. Clearly, this is the path that I should take in regards to my health. The transition to complete healthy eating, for most, does not happen overnight. It is a lifelong process. Try your best to transition to whole green salads with lots of vegetables and a few fruits each day. Be kind to yourself. Lifelong habits die hard. Be mindful of each bite and chew well. The sentient animals are thankful, our bodies are thankful and the life of this Planet is thankful. There are over 1.5 billion cows on this Planet and each one is consuming over 20 gallons of water per day. The Rain Forest has had trees cut down on land the size of the State of Washington in order to grow grain for cows. Trees are needed to absorb C02 and to release oxygen. The manure runoff from cows emits methane gases into the atmosphere and produces poisonous algae that is polluting lakes and streams. GO VEGAN. SAVE THE ANIMALS. @@stevelegreid that is an appeal to nature or desert island fallacy. We don't live in the wild. You most likely don't kill your food. I know veganic farmers who grow all their food and most of it goes to their community. We live in a modern world protected by modern luxuries. As a result we have the ability to evolve further away from our dependence on violence. In nature we would die at a fraction of our current lifespan from zoonotic diseases due to your dysfunctional dependency on animals without modern medicine. As humans we have collective potential to be extremely productive and end our debilitating desire for toxic things like smoking, eating animals, slavery, war, etc. We can invest in food forests, food not lawns, community gardens, our own gardens, veganic agriculture, vertical greenhouses, rooftop gardens, etc. Plant agriculture supports diverse ecosystems. Animal agriculture destroys diverse ecosystems. I much prefer a future of food forests over slaughterhouses.

Good for you! I was vegan 🌱 on a Wfpb diet 25 years ago in my 20’s. I stopped after my mother passed away from diabetes & renal failure in 98. My vegan diet & lifestyle was up & down like a yo-yo 🪀 to where at one point I became a fitness instructor, training lots of clients and being a health expert. I was conscious of over indulging in high carbs like cheesecake and sweet drinks after workouts, because I was a shredded guy with lots of muscles with 12% body fat. I thought I could get away with a lot of those cheat meals until it eventually became a big addiction. I realized I couldn’t out train a bad diet, Lol. But, it wasn’t until early 2020 when the pandemic started, I completely stopped going to the gym and developed type 2 diabetes. My blood glucose sugar percentage went up to 521% with a really high A1c. My sugar cravings were really out of control until I got back on a complete whole food plant based diet. Note: when I tried going back to a vegan diet prior to now, it was pretty much a trash diet due to processed foods, carbs, trans fats, high cholesterol etc. What I found very helpful to me, was eating protein prior to carbs. I swapped out if yams 🍠 and sweet potatoes for lower complex carbs like butternut squash. For breakfast, I would normally have plain Greek style vegan yogurt and add a twist of lime juice, add a few slices of avocado, some Ceylon cinnamon, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, Chia seeds, pomegranate seeds. I only sprinkled 1/2 teaspoon of the seeds to avoid high fats. I started making a lot of tossed salads with cabbage spinach from Trader Joe’s and swapped out regular dressings for balsamic vinegar dressing. I make a lot of curry lentil, green split peas and chickpea salads and I substitute all of my meats for fermented foods like the 3 grain Tempeh from Trader Joe’s. I found a lot of creative ways to marinate and season it with my own homemade sauces like general Tso chicken sauce, BBQ sauce, spicyTaco sauce. I eat a-lot of high fiber foods like quinoa and other healthy grains including raw/roasted almonds, walnuts and pumpkin seeds. Amazingly, it helps me too to cut all the cravings where I only have no more than 50-70 carbs per day. Also, look into blending organic cucumbers in Spring water and squeezing lime into it and having it throughout the day to stay hydrated. look into nutritional yeast as well. I’ve lost over 150 pounds in the past year following all of these tips. I hope some of this was helpful, please keep me posted. All the best.🙏🏼

Spoken like a typical braindead idiot.
Diabetes is *NOT* caused by sugar consumption. Get that through your dumb skull, moron. Diabetes is what happens when *FAT AND TOXIC FAT METABOLITES* block the action of insulin and prevent sugars from being metabolized, causing them to build up in the bloodstream. It's the *FAT* that is the underlying root cause.
The reason USA has such sky-high rates of diabetes and other health problems is because of their immense *FAT* consumption. When you actually look at the data on sugar vs. those problems you'll see that there's zero association whatsoever, only when it comes to *FAT* instead.
There's a reason why people on high-carbohyate diets with abundant sugar *DO NOT GET DIABETES AT ALL* as long as they avoid fat; in contrast, people on high-fat diets become diabetic, even if they mask the underlying problem by avoiding carbohydrate. In fact, people in the latter group have *HIGHER* levels of HbA1c than people in the former group.
