      For all men with small balls. This is The Rule: She can pick/decide EVERYTHING in the house, EXCEPT the audio/video equipment. Only exception: she can decide the color of speakers/amps if there is a choice. My girlfriend picked out the walnut outside of the floor standers and paid half! (USD 1250) So just buy the second subwoofer and if she complains, ask her to decide the next holiday destination, that will keep her busy haha

    Nice review. I didn't plan on picking up one of these guys initially but SVS had these in their outlet with the full warranty, trial, etc. for $400 shipped and I couldn't pass it up. I got an RSL Speedwoofer 10s a few months back and love how it sounds but I love the idea of running both of these to take advantage of each other's strengths and weaknesses and comparing them.

      I'm researching acoustic paneling options/bass traps/moving blankets for shared walls. Something to think about. Currently just have some M3-8's for a stereo setup (overlooked but amazing), just missing that below 35hz, but, like you, looking to do so in the most respectful way to the neighbors. I think if you own, there are companies that can do foam injection between the shared walls, not sure of the cost, but also something to consider. Too bad the construction on most homes is garbage given the inflated costs.

      It starts with a solid foundation. I use 1in thick yoga mats to protect my hard wood floor. Then i use concrete blocks. With a yoga mat on top to protect my subwoofer. It may look a bit tacky. Results will vary. But its not a bad option for the money.

    It's a BEAST !!!!! I got one about 7 months ago and it STILL blows me away.
    Only turned up a little past half way up.
    It goes lower than 19hz.. I believe it does ... Check specs, but I believe its 18 or 16 hz I maybe wrong tho.

      However they are currently about €549,- each... Which is a tad expensive to my liking. I think I might wait for a second hand deal or something like that. €400,- is the max I can affort for them!

    Since you emphasized the $500 pricepoint, those who are buying the PB1000 should consider the PB12NSD. It's offered every Thanksgiving, and the PB12NSD is more powerful and could hit lower notes at louder levels. If you save now, you could buy two by late November. The metal grill on the PB12NSD does not draw attention to itself. I prefer it over the cloth grill.

    Great review.
    I have a pair of these myself, the PB-1000 in black ash... I really like them, and they do deliver. When I first bought them, they sat on the floor. They would rattle the windows, not what I wanted. I bought the SVS iso feet, those tamed them quite a bit... Then something happened...
    I built a new AV stand, Steam Punk, 1.5" Birch butcher block and some black iron pipe... During that build my neighbor came over and pointed out a thing or two. One thing he said was it would look cool if the SVS subs were the same level as the new stand... I took his advise, as he was correct.
    Now the SVS PB-1000's are on stands, sitting roughly 5.5 inches off the floor. Hmmm... This made a huge difference in sound. totally decoupled from the house. I am still tuning in, getting them off the floor made a huge difference in my room. I was looking at getting a pair of PB-3000's, but I don't think I need them. I'm getting some really good sound out of these elevated PB-1000's.
    Don't dismiss these little guys, especially if you are on a budget. I would only own these PB-1000's in a pair, you are wasting your money with just a single sub. These blend in very nicely with anything you throw at it, balanced is a good word for these, in pairs. And they do go deep. Even off the floor, the dishes in the kitchen still rattle.

    • @michaelwright1602
      @michaelwright1602 5 років тому

      @@finisherjess3863 It does work, mine are on 1.5" Birch slabs, I bought a 4' Birch butcher block counter top at Home Depot, $95. I went to plumbing and bought eight 4" x 3/4" black iron (steel) pipe nipple and sixteen 3/4" Floor Flanges for the feet and to attach to the bottom of the slabs. It took 3 cuts on the slab to get to size, I used a circular saw and a straight edge, hit them with the palm sander, attached the floor flanges to the underside, stained, sealed and waxed. Came out very nice. The rattle is out of the sound, like rattling dishes and windows, just clean bass.
      I used #10 1" flat head #2 Phillips wood screws to attach the flanges to the bases. I drilled pilot holes first, I think I used a 1/8" drill bit, you do not want to snap off a screw.

      @@HomeTheaterHobbyist Another thing I am messing with is the way I am attaching the subs... Yesterday, I unhooked the LFE inputs and attached two 8 foot long speaker cables from my Emotiva XPA-2 to the High Level speaker inputs on the back of both SVS PB-1000 subs. R went to SVS R speaker, L went to SVS Left speaker line level inputs. I used only one input on the back of both subs, as it is a dual setup.
      I'm still dialing this in, but I really like the sound that I am getting. I took the Denon out of the picture in regards to the subs, now using the SVS crossover and fade along with a Schiit Audio Loki to shape the sound. So far I am really impressed, especially with music. The Ultra bookshelf speakers really sound better if that is possible, as the bass is really blending in with them vs the old LFE.
      I need to work with the phase control along with the crossovers, but so far I am really liking the sound. As far as how it will sound with movies, that is something else I need to tackle. I think this is going to work out quite well.

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist
      @HomeTheaterHobbyist  5 років тому

      That's interesting! I like that you're trying a non standard configuration. From the photos I saw it looks like the Schiit only does stereo inputs how are you going to tackle multi channel movies? Or do you watch them in stereo?

    Fantastic review, I like your style. You said the RSL Speedwooder 10s was the most fun you've had with a sub, would you recommend it over the PB-1000, or do you think if you already have the PB-1000 (I do) that it wouldn't make sense to swap?
    If it really has that punchy mid bass, I would think it would be more fun for Big Beat music and games/movies.

    You should do a video on how to setup a new subwoofer into your system. The 'crawl around the room' technique has some details people might want to see (like disconnecting your other speakers). If you do not have Audissey, you have to tell your receiver you have a subwoofer. Should you crank the volume knob on the sub before running Audissey? Where should you set the crossover? What about RCA cables vs a 'Subwoofer' cable? What about 60 hz hum? Lots of content/questions people might have.

    What do you mean with more mid-bass subwoofer than ultra low bass sub if you get what i mean. The port is tuned to 22 Hz and it does 15 Hz. Never heard the monolith 10 or RLS speedwoofer but i would think it would be the exact same as the Monolith 10, both have a -3dB at 18 (somebody measured 18 Hz instead of 19 which is what SVS specs says). The Monolith has a crazy big surround, does it produce a lot of port noise at ultra low frequencies? 26 - 18 Hz. You should break the sub in then you'll get pretty amazed, i get around 100 dB at 20 Hz in my room with the door open. Thanks for this review, definitely the best review of this subwoofer. Take care man.

I compared them side by side before sending the PB1000s back and found the Polks to be much better balanced and provided far more output than the PB1000s. The Polks aren't rated as low as the PB1000s but they actually get lower than rated. I get decent output at 20hz. I have some sound samples on my channel.

      The PB-1000 is a solid sub. I've tested quite a few 10inch ported subs and in my opinion it's the "Best All Around". Meaning it'll play well in the middle of the bass range and also deep. Here's a playlist of my other 10inch sub reviews. They include audio samples to give you some idea of how each sub sounds. ua-cam.com/play/PL0qBT6tP91WA_9PKCCiE4WpmPgAyWHNtv.html

    My room is a little big at just about 4560 cubic ft. The room is very quiet, and tight, and does not have any echo. My SB1000 sounds good, but I know I’m not getting what I should for a room that size. I’m thinking of buying another one, but was wondering if I should buy the PB 1000 to go with it instead. I don’t know if I should go bigger on the second one because I don’t want to drown out the SB. Any thoughts?

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist
      @HomeTheaterHobbyist  5 років тому

      Adding an additional sub will give you more output and balance (more even bass response throughout the room). If you’re happy with the sb1000 and just want more output/balance get a 2nd sb. If you want a little more low end bass with an increase in output get a pb1000. I haven’t listened to the sb 1000 but that’s the difference I expect.

    Thanks for the reviews! This review influenced me to purchase a PB1000. I do feel that the sub performs much better for movies compared to music though. I have 2 units, and the punch and frequency waves are crazy good with movies (6 underground is a new favorite, check that one out). But for music (my music source being master quality with Tidal), the punch is lacking quite a bit for all genres. I'm not sure if it's the way I have everything set up, but I did run MCACC pro on my Pioneer receiver, and increased the gain on the sub even after tuning. All in all, I simply feel the need to manually boost the gain with music compared to movies. I'd appreciate any feedback, and again thank you for your content!

    Great review hobbyist I was actually waiting for it because I have the monolith 10 and was wondering how it compared to the glorious svs and based on how house shattering it's low frequency extension was I was pretty interesting to hear if the svs would out do it which I highly doubted so my nerves are now settled I got a powerful center and towers so I don't need it's mid bass but I did test it and saw it's absence I guess it's a trade off well respected one

    I gave it a solid 4 out of 5 overall. For what you get at 500 USD. Actually the cabinet has quite a bit of resonates. Not as solid as it should be. I believe thats where SVS cheaped out. For me at high volume. I notice some mechanical noice from the sub itself. Maybe even some clipping from the amplifier. Didn't really like the flimsy cheap power cable. So i upgraded to something from Audioquest. I mainly use powered subwoofers in my hi-fi stereo. So i prefer powered subwoofers that have the 5 way binding post, banana high level inputs. This and its sealed brother are the only ones that have them from SVS. Since most people use LFE outputs from their home theater receivers. Its not as popular of an input. So my options were limited. Unfortunately i can only use one sub instead of dual. So i was hoping for at least a 12. Rather then a 10.

    Interesting review. Thank you. I am going to hold off and wait to see if I can find the RSL Speedwoofer 10s that digs low too. I don’t know what sub out there does what the RSL can do and what the SVS can do at the lower frequencies. It seems there are compromises when it comes to subs. At least from what I have experienced so far. But I owned the PC-2000 and the low energy frequency is amazing but lacks the RSL’s lightning fast response, accuracy and chest hitting bass. I have been dialing in my dual RSL’s all weekend and my gosh. I have never heard a sub like it. I put on some dual kick drum bass songs today from some pretty heavy hard metal bands and the RSL’s had no problems keeping up. It’s as if they are servo controlled subs. There is nooooo way on earth that the PC2000 could have handled those tracks with the same detail and nimbleness that the RSL’s did. Now I am thinking that the L-22 from Rythmik might just be the best of both worlds. Just from looking at the specs. It seems like the sealed dual 12’s can be just as fast but also go deep. I don’t know though. I keep trying to convince you to get one to review. I will be VERY interested to hear your opinion if you ever went that route. Would also love to see a review of the Powersound Audio 18 inch sub. That thing is a beast! IMO, there are 5 powerhouse subwoofer companies out there and this is complete speculation but from just looking at specs and reading reviews. Rythmik would be number 1 with PSA number 2, HSU 3rd, Monoprice 4th and SVS 5th. RSL is kind of in their own class and category as I have yet to find a sub like it. I am holding on to those until I do! But.......... Joe at RSL tells me there is a new sub in the works. Hummmmmmm......

      @HomeTheaterHobbyist  5 років тому +2

      O ok, I thought maybe you were running a night club or something 😁. I typically run it around 35% volume which equates to 77db at my main listening position. I find this setting has a nice balance between bass and the other frequencies. I've run it at 65% while testing but when watching movies or listening to music the bass notes would really over power everything else in the track which I don't care for.
      Now, if you have a really big space (let's say greater than 700 square feet) and sit far from the sub you may need to turn the volume up a bit to get the right balance. In this case a bigger sub would probably work better like the Pb2000 but the 1000 will handle a normal size room just fine.
