Long time owner (8 years) of original SVS PB-2000 subwoofer here. Really interesting to see these newer SVS subs and naturally wanted to see PB-2000 :)
What a high quality in depth review. Switching from a couple ported 12" cheap Dayton subs to an SB 1000. blu ray, music and gaming use in a small living room theatre. Cant wait!
Thanks for the Like! 🙂 I have some questions that I hope you perhaps could answer. My curent speakers sound a bit muddy: the amp is a bit weak and the speakers don't have enough breathing room by the walls for the bass. Besides that I want a deeper bass extention, I also want to solve the problem with the sound of the speakers, and I want to place an SB 1000 Pro next to each speaker for that. I have a NAD C165BEE + C275BEE combination; a stereo set. Is there a way to connect these subwoofers in a way that they take away the bass from the speakers, so they can focus more on the mids and highs? Or is turning down the bass all the way the only option? Also: it's in a room of about 16.5 by 16.5 foot. Will 2 100 Pro's be sufficient for that? I'm not an extreme bass-head but do enjoy good deep tones in music and like a reasonable amount of support in the deeper tones in movies without the entire room exploding in thunder. For instance: moments like "Godzilla (2014) - Nuclear Train Attack Scene" should sound really convincing.
Lol what is it with this community and hating your wife, is it just boomer humor or what? "Hey guys I have a 400lb subwoofer box dangling from my ceiling and my wife is concerned about the newborn.." ~gEt RiD oF tHe WiFe
@@bryanguest2807 ok zoomer. Since you clearly don't have much life experience yet, let me explain: for wifes ingeneral the interior is far more important than sound quality. Speakers must be as small as possible and the color and shape/style must fit with the closets and the couch etc, or otherwise must be as invisible as possible. Subwoofers should also be as small as possible and preferrably be hidden behind the couch or some obscure corner where a potted plant can be placed on top of it, preferrably with a cloth over it so you don't see it. My wife fortunately isn't that bad; we have very good floor standing speakers (although my old ones that had a superior sound she did hate) and with much luck I was able to get a pre- and power amplifier under the television. She hadn't realised that the power amp also belonged to the set, otherwise I probably had to look for some low-powered compact amp that absolutely wouldn't be able to power these speakers enough. She is not too happy with the idea of a subwoofer, but one tiny one is acceptable. I do want to have 2: one next to each speaker. So, zoomer, does this answer your question?
Excellent video! I am leaning towards the sb1000 pro here but I am not sure if it will blend in well for Movies? I am diving into HT for the first time after using a soundbar all my life. May I ask which Sub do you recommend for a small HT room on the 3rd floor of an apartment complex? The room is 12x10 feet(125sqfeet) or 1125 cubic feet (12x10x9). Thank you so much and keep the videos coming! 😊
Talk about a comprehensive review. Very informative. Touching on more sealed subwoofers being sold than ported - there seems to be "internet" recomendation that sealed is for music listening and ported is for movies. Interesting you didn't opine, ported vs sealed being used in specific circumstances.
My Paradigm PS 1000 has bitten the dust after 31 years of use. I plan to open it up and see what's going on. It's making a horrid popping and clicking sound. So eyeing up PB-2000 as a replacement if I cannot rescue my Paradigm. It'll be a shame to see it go as I f'ing love it. Nice review.
Purchased the Klipsch Pro-Media 2.1 for garage and a separate Bluetooth dongle. Sounds fantastic for the purpose. Like surprisingly good for $119.00 on sale at Costco. With modern phones BT you can output to two of the same set of speakers for approx $240.
As of today, the PB2000 Pro is $300 more than the PB1000 Pro. That makes it a little tougher decision. I heard you mention a $100 difference (I think you said between the PB1000 Pro and the SB2000 Pro but that is apples and oranges)
Thank you for this video comparison! My take away is the SB-1000 Pro is the better sounding sub for music for my space and most spaces I would say. It even has hi level speaker wire inputs to integrate better with your amp, like REL subs do. It sounded very clean and integrated well for music. All ported subwoofers I've tried in my HT/Music setup in the basement, sounded boomy no matter where I placed/pointed it. Sealed would be my preference and what would work best. May I suggest if you're doing more of these speaker/DAC/AMP reviews in the future, please allow the music to play through before you start commenting on things. Maybe comment between switching tracks, but let the track play through as intended, as we're listening to the sound it makes for our comparison for the first time and really get distracted by such interruptions ;) Thank you!
I have the SB2000 PRO and an original SB1000 (in different rooms) and they are fairly similar size wise and both have the heavy duty plugs. The original sb1k even has the metal grill. Seems to me that SVS down graded the SB1K PRO except for the Bluetooth/app integration to differentiate the 1k and 2k better Multiple smaller subs will fill the room so much better than one big/powerful sub but requires more integration to get it sounding right
I have an option to go with PB 10 ISD for half price of the PB 1000! You seem to be the most knowledgeable reviewer on UA-cam ! What do you think should I spend double the amount to buy PB 1000 or pay less and get PB 10 ISD ( old model) apparently they are the same as per discussion forums ? Thank you
They're are very similar, but I would still go for the newer PB1000. With the age of the PB10 ISD, I would be unsure of how much playback time you would get out of it.
Well now I'm confused lol I listen to bass-heavy music like EDM and rap, so ported seems like the way to go, but Matt also says the 2000 series is worth the upgrade. I can't quite swing for the PB-2000 and it's also quite large for my liking. So, PB-1000 Pro @ $799 or SB-2000 Pro @ $899??
Okay, thanks for the reply. I just got one today but it's making a slight rattle sound. I sold my 1000 to get this 2000 and it didn't have that problem at all. I'm so confused, any idea what might be happening here? The speaker is certainly not blown as it sounds good at lower volumes but when pushed a bit the rattle sound begins. I'd certainly appreciate any insight on the matter. P.s. Keep up the reviews 👍
What about running two pb1000's and plugging the ports one of them? I just bought two on the outlet sale and was going to integrate them into my home theater. Was wondering if it would be worth sealing one.
Would love to get your thoughts of the PBs w/ the port plugs installed vs the SBs. No has any content on the plugs impact on the sound other than just mentioning that they are available if requested.
@@ObsessedGarage can you explain why you don't like it? Is it the idea of it that you dont like or that you have tried it and it doesn't make a difference ?
Not basing this on actual experience, but intuitively, a sub that was designed from the beginning as sealed should perform better than one that was designed as ported and has a plug put into those ports.
I have a pair of Regielautsprecher active speakers. Works well through my smsl SU 8 DAC. Can I connect the SVS subwoofer to my smsl SU8 RCA Port as the active speakers are connected with XLR ports?
Two sb's will have excellent sound quality and fill if positioned on opposing walls. The pb2000 will ultimately hit lower subsonic bass if thats what you are really interested in.
Unfortunately there only so good a speaker can sound Up to the beholder for to play wat u expect and then the area that wud playing in has just big as effect as everything else
@@vongdong10 HT series aren't bad at especially for the price of the 1508 or the new 1510. The S series blows away all of the svs subs. Guess it depends if you want loose bass you feel or tight bass that stops on a dime
@@irfn23 I had the 12" and was not impressed. Its hard to pass on other 15" brands like rythmik or HSU for the price of the HT15 or even build an Ultimax 15. Not sure why Matt passed on his 18" ultimax's. Those are amazing subs for the money
I thought this started as a budget idea!? But people on a budget don't buy $800 subs for their garage! Get real. I wouldn't even spend that for indoors. Buy used, and stop wasting resources.
@@ObsessedGarage I am just curious what is your reasoning for choosing that specific sub? Cause I noticed in your videos you were saying you like the PB2000 and all so if you wouldn't mind giving me some kinda feedback i would highly appreciate it.
@@GameChangerPlayz23 its easy to go back and forth between the two. He states the ported adds more "room volume" (not loudness) but sounds muddier when compared to the sealed. These are very common general design considerations when buying a sub not just this model, nothing he really found or said was surprising to me
It sounds better and more responsive for games, i guess you would have it near you in the bedroom you play your games in better priversy...... i chose the 1,000's sealed box and they are great for what i need.
Have you had a chance to demo both and decide? In my mind the answer here will always be a "well designed" ported box will outperform sealed with little to no compromise other than size of the cabinet. A sealed box will always deliver more linear, but is far less efficient. So it will "measure" better, but sound less full to our ears. Audiophiles will swear by sealed. Much of this IMO is just ideological. In order to match the output of a well ported box in the lower hz ranges for movie effects you would need twice the amount of sealed box woofers. When you listen to acoustical music, it doesnt matter. Also when I say "well designed" ported box, many peoples only experience with subwoofers are crappy soundbar subs that are ported to be boomy in lower ranges the driver cant hit. This gives ported designs a bad reputation
One of they best if not the best review of the SB 1000 series subs out there . I am in the market for a so called Budget sub . And I have watched over 20 videos on this sub ,to see if everyone is coming up with the same conclusion . And for what it looks like SVS has hit the so called (nail on the head) . Matt watching you listening and evaluating with all of your years of experience ,plus a tear down of the subs is over the top in a review . For me the sealed sub is the one I'M buying ,cause I'm over the boom era in my life. Thanks Matt for your honesty .TWO THUMBS UP.
Last year the PB 2000 Pro’s were 899. I was brand new to the HT/Audio hobby. I had recently inherited a pair of what I believe are JBL studio monitors manufactured between 1971-73.Their measurements, construction materials, and finish all point to being some variation of the L100’s. Anyway, they ROCKED and I wanted to pair them with an appropriate sub that would also shake the house during movies. So yeah, my 26ft wide x 40ft long x 12ft high living room now proudly hosts a PB 2000 pro.
THIS IS INPORTANT.....!!!!! See, you have to consider to what volume is your normal listening level, also, what amp and speakers you have as your mains.... is tour system Stereo, or multi speaker....? Example, with Stereo, i will do about 80w/channel, but using multiple speakers (a bit like a single singer vs a quire) the multispeakers at about 30 to 40 is quiet loud as a group.... Having had many subs, and considering this gentlemans smaller speakers (like mine), he will proberly do about 50w/channel at "normal" listening values. When you add these subs, and get a 10,000w sub, it will so "drown out" the speakers, you won't hear anything and it will sound COMPLETLY awfull..... trust me. Ok, I'm being a bit of a drama queen on this, but seriously, for those 100w speakers the pb 1,000's were more than enough, as you should balance the subs volume to match the speakers, and if you listen again, the pb 2,000's were drowning out the speakers eventhough he tried to "volume match" the sub. ! Sub's should be seen and not be heard over the speakers, but be part of the speakers, an extention of the tonal abilities of those speakers, and 325w is way enough power for them to "blend in" and for most home theaters we have. 1,500w is far too much in excess, and he will find that he will hve them sat prity low all of there lives, especialy for "background" volumes whilst he works..... I mean, a cheer transistor radio would have achieved what he wanted, but he is a man of class, so he goes down this route.... 🙂 For home, ideally (and yes, when people say Bass is non directional it is true) 2 subwoofers are the ideal combination, i have tried 3, than 4 (1 in each corner), but more than 2, they start to clash unless you start stacking, and then you start having to turn them down like the multi speaker setups...... ie, completly pointless... I do understand that the 2,000's and 3,000's have more physical power, besides volume, and when a super low hum is given, the bigger subs can reproduce that note/tone more cleanly/accurately at the same volume as the speakers are set at, like a gunshot, a crash, a bomb etc, but im sure the 1,000's will cope, and you can ofcourse change the svs driver in the ported box for a bigger more powerfully magneted car speaker that them "bass heads" use in them audio exhibitions they go to..... just replace the 8ohm svs for a duel 4 ohm and wire them in series... I dont know if svs use 8ohm subs in their boxes, and if the amps will cope with a 4ohm loaded speaker (a duel 2ohm wired in series giving a 4 ohm loading) I do believe the advantage is louder volumes, but 4 ohms puts a greater strain on the amps, but most home cinema amps say 8ohm, minimum 4ohm, so they shold take it, i would monitor the temps of the amps and mot run it more than 75% of its total output, which would be 50% more than you had at full output before..... Your risk lol...... So, conclusion, unless you think your going to be upgrading your 100w amp and speakers to beyond 250w/channel, and actually listen to them volumes before the police come because of neighbourhood complaints.... or you own a nightclub/discotheque...... you really dont need 1,500w max and 500w nominal of powere..... I was using cambridge audios LS120's which are a 8inch speaker and had about 70w rms of nominal power, and i was turning them down because over my 100w speakers, even uing them in stereo, they were being drowned out by these constant booms and rumbles the subs were making and it detracted and distracted me from listening to the sounds...... it became quiet annoying at times...... The problem with the cambridge audios, was they went down to 30 ish, and could be forced lower, but the cones would start to rattle and you could hear this terrible banging sound (no, their not burnt out, i was putting near infrasounds through them) so im hopeing that the svs's are using better drivers that won't knock when given lower "bass boosted" music, and played at 50w i hope they can cope better..... (if not i will replace the 350w speaker drivers for 500 or 1,000w drivers, and see how they cope lol). Twin subs are a MUST as are PORTED subs (unless size is an important factor, and sealed is an only consideration) besides, you can block your ports if you want to hear what they sound like..... or even partially block with "bungs".... You CAN'T drill holes into the sealed cabinets, as the boxes are too small, and it would sound very very bad, as these bigger boxes are "tuned" to a certain frequency as are the depth of the tubes highly important and critically effect the tuning (research "cabinet designes" and you will see)....... I hope this helps you decide what is the wiseist thing to do, me?....... I'm going to buy the sealed boxed 1,000's and for less than the 400$ difference, i will build my own cabinets, have them tuned lower to about 20hz, stick some nicer mahogany wrap on them, or cover them with real wood vaniere, stain them, and gloss them with that acrylic stuff so they come up like glass, and 2 boxes will cost less than 400$, (of which i can sell these boxes for 150$ each as they will be mint) and all i will do is transfer the hardware and legs......... easy job, and in the future, if i want to "upgrade" again, i just make the rear hole a bit bigger, and transfit the 2,000's stuff over, no problemo 😂😂😂..... or keep the old boxes and upgrade the near year later ........ especially if i build my boxes to the 2,000's size....... British thinking, plan ahead.... All the best tubers 🙂👍🏻❤️
#next year later lol soz..... Oh, and if you want that white stuffing, which is dampaning and makes the sound, sound as though the boxes are bigger, ust that white loft insulation stuff made by dali, it's the same and 1,000 times cheeper, also, the design of your cabinet can be changed to multiple shelves in the botom instead of bass reflex which makes the sound, sound even lower...... research cabinet designes...... Expensive Disco speakers use that designe instead of tubes.... 🙂👍🏻
Matt, If you could add the home theater element to these types of comparisons that would be great. In other words, If you were going to put a SVS sub or set of subs into a Home Theater what's your recommendations.
Depends on size of room. If you also want MUSIC, probably SB2000 or 3000. It's tighter than ported. SVS gives you no risk 45 days to try them out. SB2000 can work form many people. Did you end up buying one?
Change the title dude. And change your review. These are NOT the SB1000, PB2000 etc. These are the SB1000 PRO, PB2000 PRO. Whole other range!!!!! But i get the picture
Yes..... 1 is bad, 2 is good, you can return your choice within 45 days..... choose the 2x 1,000's and save up in the year, and just pay the difference for 2x 2,000's ...... thats the smart move, or even 2x 3,000's 🙂
I wish they kept the metal grille like my SB2000 has. Much better if you hav cats, although the grill on my PB2000Pro isn’t deficient, just not as premium.
Running dual SB-3000 in my living room. Nice sweet spot for me, I’ve ran large ported subs, smaller/cheaper sealed subs. These get low enough and loud enough for our needs.
Your svs subs videos make my decision easy and that my dealer make a so perfect deal package for me normaly the 2 sb 2000 pros are 2200 Euro dual, sb 1000 pro dual 1400 Euro, and the sb 3000 are dual 3000 Euro, the price difference to the higher model from sbs 1000 to 3000 are 400 Euro single and the sb 4000 are 2300 Euro . You make the test great and your thoughts on it. 🙏
Also might check out RSL subwoofers 10s mk2 as a ~500 entry level option as well. Bought one a little while ago and like it a lot better than the pb-1000 my parents have. It is a 10 inch ported driver with 400 watts rms in a smaller cabinet than the SVS ported subs due to the slot port which to me doesn’t have any negative effects on sound. The driver itself also appears to be a little higher quality than SVSs lower tier options.
I just bought one too. It's scheduled to arrive soon. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I look forward to it fulfilling my hopes. $$ is a large concern for me, and from what I've been able to discover the 10s MKII offers the best performance in it's price range. Been waiting nearly a month. Since my old sub died I've developed an all new appreciation of how much they contribute to my home theater system.
@@beakiller25 I'm thrilled with it's performance. It's goes lower than the bottom firing 12" it's taking the place of, and is more musically satisfying as well. It's the only sub I have, so I haven't been able to compare it with anything other than my memories of it's predecessor. One I'd been wholly satisfied with for 15 years. The RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII out performs it across the board. It fills my house with richer, more powerful, bass than my old sub ever did, even though It had a bigger driver and a higher price tag. I'm extremely pleased so far. I've heard RSL is preparing to offer a 12" model, so that might be something worth looking into. I can't imagine a larger driver, and perhaps a higher wattage amplifier, would make it anything but even more fantastic. I believe I made a very good choice when I decided to give this sub a try, and fully intend to partner it with the new 12" version when it arrives, and I'm able to afford it. The strength of the 10S MKII has awakened my hunger for even more BOOM!
I'm new to home audio. I always heard you should always do 2 subs instead of 1. Is this still a rule or myth? I was just thinking 2x pb1000 or 1 pb2000?
Thanks for your review..question..I just purchased the Sb 1000,but not the pro version just the regular. You said set your crossover on your sub at 80 Hz? Most people say set that crossover into the highest point like LFE on your sub?
80hz is the reccomended setting by thx and if you use the lfe phono connection it is all set,..... uing the other phono you can adjust the values most bookshelves will do 60hz so i set the lowest for my rears and sides and center to 60hz, the main l&r to full range, and the subs to start to come in at 80hz, so there is small overlap so i can level match them.... Hope that helps 🙂👍🏻
Wow, the baskets and build quality on these new drivers are really several notches down from their early days. The original plus and ultra looked more like car audio drivers. In the end, Im sure its to keep costs down to a price point. But yikes, my old PB12/Plus2 was a small fortress, where these now look like high volume Klipsch or Polk subs. Thanks for taking that apart. Very eye opening.
The non pro PB1000 may be worthy of a look as well as the RSL Speedwoofer 10S. I have both as well as the PB1000 Pro and the PB4000 for various reasons for different applications. The non pro PB1000 and RSL 10S are amazing at their price points.
Hello, is the PB1000 Pro much better than its older non Pro version? I have a SB2000 for movies and i dont know why but i dont really like it. I think i should have gone with a ported one.
@@exovitae The PB1000 Pro has a bit more output but the biggest differense is the driver size. PB1000 Pro has an 12 inch element and it gives more rumble and more punch. I bought the svs SB1000 Pro and i didint like it so i went and bought the PB1000.
I'm sure they sound sweeeet. Even through youtube it's clear the 2000 series is a notch above the 1000 series. Dual SB 2000's in a typical living room/HT would make most enthusiasts very happy.
So if I am buying dual subwoofers and the (Ported)PB1000 pro is the same price at $599 as the (Sealed)SB2000 non Pro. What will be the best bang for my buck. 😊
The ported still, the higher powered 2000 wont project or sound as good as the 1000 ported, listen to this demo...... the sealed 2000 vs the ported 1000
Is it possible for you to move the equipment into a room in the house and repeat the review? Would love to see if the smaller subs would suffice. BTW, your process was spot on. 🙌
I agree. This is a big wide-open space which obviously isn't like a typical room in most people's homes. In this big garage the 2000 series is a big upgrade over the 1000 series but the vast difference might be reduced enough to not be so noticeable if placed indoors in a much smaller space with furniture, tables, drapes, etc.
Matt thank you for this video. It could not have come at the perfect time. I just bought the sennheiser ambeo soundbar and many reviews have said this sound bar and this subwoofer works really well. As you have said not a lot of reviews on UA-cam about this and your video just made my decision to buy much easier.
I send the 2 klipsch r-12sw back to my dealer and with 10 % summer drop on the sb 2000 pros I get 2 for 1500 Euro in exchange. End of the week I have the 2 svs in my house
Wow, finally someone who knows what they are talking about and explains it very well too. I just added you to my channels, great job on your reviews. 👍😁
What subwoofer do you think should be best match for one pair qacoustics 3030i for 90% music ? Room is like 5.5 x 3.7 meter . Im looking at svs sb1000 pro and 2000 pro but the 2000 is alot more expensive .
Excellent video. I would love to get the PB-2000 pro, but my space is limted. I'll get 2 SB-2000 pros instead. How do you think 2 SBs compare to one PB?
Would have been interesting to have the PC 2000 Pro tube sub in this comparo. I'm guessing it would rate similar to the PB2000 but have a smaller floor footprint (just go way taller). Interesting video anyway, I'm looking at subs at the moment. Leaning towards sealed.
Here's the thing I love all the reviews but you know what when they talk price they never add the sales tax perry, which can cause as much as 7% higher than the price of a product itself so when he mentions 1150 bucks for the subs in reality it's more like 1250 with the tax save all your pennies nickels dimes and quarters in this economy in order to buy two which of course to 12:50
@@ObsessedGarage Understandable completely I like what you do I do watch your posts and I do take into account your information completely you're very good at what you do., it just that most folks can't necessarily afford this equipment because of the short income of which they make where they can barely afford to pay rent or buy food or anything else for that matter here you come out I just spent to purchase a set of four original PB 1000 switch hadn't been produced in a while they were new in the box and sold to me by SVS in a very good price perry, and I simply cannot tell the difference between the first generation and the second generation 1000 Pro gary, there is no discernible difference between the two at least when it comes to the pb-1000 first generation or the second generation can you come up my setup is fairly large and complicated and I use these four ported Subs to supplement a 50 ft long 35 ft wide 10 ft ceiling room and it all sounds absolutely wonderful keep pushing forth man you're doing well thank you
If you had to choose between the sb2000 vs the pb1000, which one would you choose? Actually, did the 1000’ sound more “integrated” after you did a dsp correction?
Cool video! I had dual PB 1000's pro's for awhile then earlier this year I traded them up for dual PB 3000's. I skipped the PB 2000's cause I felt the difference between the 1000's and the 2000's wasn't enough (for me) so I went to the 3000's. Couldn't be happier! But anyways cool video! Subbed.
@@happydogg312 No I did not listen to the PB 2000 pro. The 225 watt (RMS) difference between the 1000 pro (325 rms) and the 2000 pro (550 rms) just just did not seem to be a enough of a difference for me. With the PB 3000 I got 800 RMS, a 475 watt increase from the PB 1000 pro. Plus the edge wound split wind voice coil the 3000 series employs also attracted me to the PB 3000.
i am currently looking for either the pb or sb 1000 (but the non pro version) because i live in eu and the newer pro models are actually alot more expensive. but besides the apps and whatnot, they should not differ too much in overall output i think. here is the deal: my room is 5x4 meters, tv at the long wall. i watch 80% movies i would say. i initially thought pb1000. but the thing is: with my tv cabinet and my speaker stands and other furniture...i really dont have much space to place a sub, if i dont want to walk around it. So the sb1000 would actually be alot easier to work with (also apartment if that matters?). i have a couple spots here that would eventually be a nice spot and the pb simply wont fit there. do you think if i put a sb1000 into a 20square meter room. do you think i would still be happy with it?
@@csabas46 that one was 7 months ago and i do have a sb1000 and i cant even put them above 50% gain without oversaturating my room. pretty happy i did not go with the pb. wouldnt even know where to put it space wise
@@MaybeTiberius my PB-2000 arrived a week ago, still in the break-in process, but it rocks. Gain knobs on the mixer at 1pm, gain on the sub at 50%, volume level on the laptop at 80%. Shakes the room :)
This guy keeps adding a digit to the definition of "budget". $500 speakers are for people who either absolutely care about audio or don't care about money. I'm wincing just thinking about spending $400 on the PB-1000 non-pro, but it seems like the bare minimum for decent bass in a theater. I paid $250 for my receiver, and $80 for the 5.1.2 speakers. I'm still planning on getting an expensive TV to replace my $70 projector, but my entire setup has been less than the cost of one of these subs.
Wow........ your upgrade path is going to be expensive...... I try to choose items that will last me 30 years.....so i buy good quality and they last..... Focus on your tv first and get 4k, then a good home theater amp, then a small set of speakers you can upgrade later to better ones, than a sub is last of all, wspecially if your using laptop audio through a dac..... your amp and main speakers are the most important........
@@mohammedisaa9952 the speakers I have look just like the pictures in the ads from a decade ago. I don't have a single doubt that they'd last another one. Of course, I'm going to get a better display, but the price tag on something doesn't automatically make it last longer. My system covers the whole range, and I'm happy with it. Why should I upgrade if I don't need or want to? $100 every year is still just as expensive as $1000 every decade, and I get the feeling you're spending more than that.
Is it possible that being that you played all subwoofers at the same volume level the amp in the sb 1000 pro just couldn't've reach that level without clipping thus sounding muddy at high volume levels? Another thing is that your space is huge and that's pretty much the smallest subwoofer with the weakest amp they sell besides the 3000 micro. I'm pretty sure the SB 1000 pro will slam in a 12x12 room. For my computer room i have Klipsch RP400m's playing off a RSL ia225.1 mini amplifier. i think the Sb 1000 pro will do nicely.
I scored a PB2Kpro 2 years ago for under $400, which made me really question myself for buying a PB1K for $450 a year prior. Pb2kpro behind my screen and pb1k behind second row of seating. I'd say all in all, i got very lucky. Then again, im less than an hour from svs. The amount of people around here who will give a deal so they dont have to ship is unreal.
I have to say that's an impressive-looking garage with the cabinets and flooring. I subscribed when you said you were using the PSB P5's because I've become a pretty big fan of their speakers although I've yet to own any of them. The system in my garage is quite humble compared to what you're using in this test but I have to say it sounds pretty darn good to me and this isn't my first rodeo. All of the gear in my garage were at one time being used in the house. A JBL JSR-400 AVR which was purchased for my daughter's first system when she became a teenager over 25 years ago, an old pair of AuraSound LSB-527M bookshelves and a budget Dahlquist PDQ-1500 15" ported sub. I can't say I was ever happy with the JBL AVR when it was in my daughter's system but I was pleasantly surprised when it was pressed into duty in the garage when the old Sherwood RD7106 AVR I had been using finally died after owning it for 25 years. All in all, for a garage system I"m quite happy with it.
I generally prefer sealed. They tend to sound a little tighter and less boomy, but that is not always the case. A properly tuned ported enclosure can be magical.
I was gonna grab a pb 1000 pro but a pb 2000 pro just about fits for my room size (3x4) so will grab one of those instead since i have a slightly higher budget set.
? .... you will be putting a 1,500 watt sub in a 3 by 4 (foot or meter) room..... gawd, you will be deaf very quickly, i cant even imadgin what it will sound like 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Good luck....
Cant wait!
The SB 1000 Pro has the highest wife acceptance factor.
Thanks for the Like! 🙂
I have some questions that I hope you perhaps could answer.

Matt thanks you for a great review. You've educated and guided me on which sub to buy. Your expertise is very much appreciated.
PB 1000 ported has great room-filling ' omni-present ' sound.
Well said
I ordered 1x SVS sb4000 This is the best woofer for the reviews of the world for Home Chinema , movie ,Game , tv and music
Can you give your opinion on multiple subs in the next video? For instance would you recommend one 2000 sub over two 1000’s?
No....
2x1,000 is far better, try to get ported aswell if you can fit the size.....
I wish I could havewatched this video before purchasing my SB-1000 Pro early July. Thanks!
With modern phones BT you can output to two of the same set of speakers for approx $240.
obsessed garage for life!!!!!!!!!!!
Where is FUSE on the back ?
I have the SB2000 PRO and an original SB1000 (in different rooms) and they are fairly similar size wise and both have the heavy duty plugs. The original sb1k even has the metal grill. Seems to me that SVS down graded the SB1K PRO except for the Bluetooth/app integration to differentiate the 1k and 2k better
Multiple smaller subs will fill the room so much better than one big/powerful sub but requires more integration to get it sounding right
Thanks for all the time you put into this review. What model PSB speakers are you using on the shelf?
They are P5.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
I think the 2000 is a significant upgrade, so even with bass heavy stuff, I'd choose the SB2000PRO.
Thanks for asking what I was going to ask as well. Thanks to both
What about SVS PB16-Ultra? Any plans on selling this monster?
Anybody know the name of that electronic song from the PB2000 demo? Shazam can’t recognize it!

Ive watched a few if your vids. Thjs ine you're saying to get the pb version uet the other video you say go sb2000. Which is it? Thanks
I like SB.
I've tested SVS and REL. REL is better for music.
Yes, much better, but REL is in a different class.
What about running two pb1000's and plugging the ports one of them? I just bought two on the outlet sale and was going to integrate them into my home theater. Was wondering if it would be worth sealing one.
Sealed subwoofers just don't have the kick like ported, i can hardly hear Sealed to me
would it be beneficial to running both sealed and ported?
You could do that, but that may lead to some other bass management issues.
@@ObsessedGarage Hi. Thank you for making this video. Would two sb-1000 pro’s be equal or better to 1 sb-2000 pro? Thank you again.
Would love to get your thoughts of the PBs w/ the port plugs installed vs the SBs. No has any content on the plugs impact on the sound other than just mentioning that they are available if requested.
I've never really liked that idea. It seems to me that you'd be better buying a sealed sub from the start.

Ok, but what about 2 sb 1000s vs 1 pb 2000? should be more slam for the same price with the 2 right?
Two sb's will have excellent sound quality and fill if positioned on opposing walls.
The pb2000 will ultimately hit lower subsonic bass if thats what you are really interested in.

Unfortunately there only so good a speaker can sound

What shockse is that you are very educated in detailing and audio but you chose svs over rel... Give rel subs a try, you might like the better!
Rel's HT subs are not that great imo. I think the reason he chose SVS over Rel is that SVS is more of a dual purpose subwoofer than the latter.
@@vongdong10 HT series aren't bad at especially for the price of the 1508 or the new 1510. The S series blows away all of the svs subs. Guess it depends if you want loose bass you feel or tight bass that stops on a dime

@@ObsessedGarage Thanks. For a small room, would an SB-1000 Pro be sufficient, or is the SB-2000 Pro going to be superior even at low volume levels?
2 1000 or 1 2000pb ?
I have a SB2000 in a small (12x13) room (now SB2000Pro). Always better to have 2. I think 2 SB 1000 Pro would be a reasonable inexpensive combo.
I thought this started as a budget idea!? But people on a budget don't buy $800 subs for their garage! Get real. I wouldn't even spend that for indoors. Buy used, and stop wasting resources.
$800 sub is budget in my world, but I guess it's all relative.
I could use some help I just ordered a SVS PB2000 and an SVS SB1000 Pro and curious which you guys think would work best for gaming, movies, music?
All around, I'd choose the SB1000.
That's a big ass living room deserving a big ass sub.
Now you need to add another one. I have a 2000Pro on Bluetooth. Easy to hide it
THIS IS INPORTANT.....!!!!!
For home, ideally (and yes, when people say Bass is non directional it is true) 2 subwoofers are the ideal combination, i have tried 3, than 4 (1 in each corner), but more than 2, they start to clash unless you start stacking, and then you start having to turn them down like the multi speaker setups...... ie, completly pointless...

@@mousec2600 how did you like it? Have you tested it against other subs?
2 subs will generally help with reduction of dead spots in the room.
@ObsessedGarage 2000 are kinda pricey for a pair but I don't want 2 pb-1000 either so I'm torn
I'd rather start with the 2000. Then maybe add another later.

I really like the SB2000 Pro. Two of those or the 3000 would be nice.
@@exovitae If you have the money go with the PB2000 Pro. It does not have much of mid bass but it has a lot of deep rumbling bass.
@@wk5863 hey, thanks for your opinion, i dont have space for the PB2000!
I always preferred ported over non ported fuller heavier sound
I did 2 SB 2000 pros, love them!
Great review! Love my dual SB 2000 pros in glass black👍🏼
I'm sure they sound sweeeet. Even through youtube it's clear the 2000 series is a notch above the 1000 series. Dual SB 2000's in a typical living room/HT would make most enthusiasts very happy.
For music which would you recommend? 1 PB 2000 or 2 SB 1000s
I think he actually picks the SB-2000 as the best "bang for buck" performer.
It's amazing how long you can talk about nothing
Matt thank you for this video. It could not have come at the perfect time. I just bought the sennheiser ambeo soundbar and many reviews have said this sound bar and this subwoofer works really well. As you have said not a lot of reviews on UA-cam about this and your video just made my decision to buy much easier.
you are testing with junk, sub is way to high and boomy ... svs should sue you
Your grammar is junk.
Thanks and welcome.
What subwoofer do you think should be best match for one pair qacoustics 3030i for 90% music ?
Room is like 5.5 x 3.7 meter .
Im looking at svs sb1000 pro and 2000 pro but the 2000 is alot more expensive .
I'd want the SB-2000-Pro.
@@ObsessedGarage thanks!
@ObsessedGarage Hi. Thank you for making this video. Would two sb-1000 pro’s be equal or better to 1 sb-2000 pro? Thank you again.
I think I’d rather have a single 2000. It’s such a big upgrade over the 1000.
Thank you for your reply!
Pb 1000 pro vs sb 2000 pro..which is best for a medium sized room as a single sub
I think the 2000 is the biggest upgrade in the line. I'd highly recommend it.
Excellent video. I would love to get the PB-2000 pro, but my space is limted. I'll get 2 SB-2000 pros instead. How do you think 2 SBs compare to one PB?
I think 2 SBs would be much better that a single PB.
Very nice review with sound quality and difference. I like pb-1000 although it is big and heavy !
Which one would you pick PB 1000 pro or SB 2000 pro. 20x16 game room. Thanks love the video
I’d choose the SB2000 Pro. It’s a pretty significant upgrade in driver and amplifier.
@@ObsessedGarage appreciate the response! Liked subbed
@@dubl_afpv6270Most important thing is buy 2!
Owning a JTR, which Matt had, and a SVS PB16, I’m more interested in that Milwaukee right angle. Going to OG to buy it now.
Would have been interesting to have the PC 2000 Pro tube sub in this comparo. I'm guessing it would rate similar to the PB2000 but have a smaller floor footprint (just go way taller). Interesting video anyway, I'm looking at subs at the moment. Leaning towards sealed.
You are correct.
Here's the thing I love all the reviews but you know what when they talk price they never add the sales tax perry, which can cause as much as 7% higher than the price of a product itself so when he mentions 1150 bucks for the subs in reality it's more like 1250 with the tax save all your pennies nickels dimes and quarters in this economy in order to buy two which of course to 12:50
If 7% makes that much of a difference, I would think we wouldn't be having a conversation about expensive speakers.
@@ObsessedGarage
Understandable completely I like what you do I do watch your posts and I do take into account your information completely you're very good at what you do., it just that most folks can't necessarily afford this equipment because of the short income of which they make where they can barely afford to pay rent or buy food or anything else for that matter here you come out I just spent to purchase a set of four original PB 1000 switch hadn't been produced in a while they were new in the box and sold to me by SVS in a very good price perry, and I simply cannot tell the difference between the first generation and the second generation 1000 Pro gary, there is no discernible difference between the two at least when it comes to the pb-1000 first generation or the second generation can you come up my setup is fairly large and complicated and I use these four ported Subs to supplement a 50 ft long 35 ft wide 10 ft ceiling room and it all sounds absolutely wonderful keep pushing forth man you're doing well thank you
If you had to choose between the sb2000 vs the pb1000, which one would you choose? Actually, did the 1000’ sound more “integrated” after you did a dsp correction?
I think the biggest delta in the SVS line is from 1000 to 2000. I would choose the SB2000.
But dual pb 1000 would be even better?
Forget it, PB-2000 (non pro) is the way to go!

Great Video Matt, Can you do an office sound set up video showing your home office or your Helen office area sound set up?
This guy keeps adding a digit to the definition of "budget". $500 speakers are for people who either absolutely care about audio or don't care about money. I'm wincing just thinking about spending $400 on the PB-1000 non-pro, but it seems like the bare minimum for decent bass in a theater. I paid $250 for my receiver, and $80 for the 5.1.2 speakers. I'm still planning on getting an expensive TV to replace my $70 projector, but my entire setup has been less than the cost of one of these subs.
Sounds like you need a better job.
Wow........ your upgrade path is going to be expensive......
Phenominal content as usual. Keep it Krazy.
One question I have is, what Nike Shoes do you have on in this video.
I'll stay tuned for More Krazy. 👍
Asks about nike trainers in a sub video........
I have a pb12 ultra/2. Had a lightning strike. Got my poor old guy. I wish I knew where to get a new amp. Anyone have ideas?
Do u prefer sealed versus ported subwoofers? And if so, why?
