This is that 1060 that I have. It's a great little card, very quiet after flashing the new BIOS that adds the 0dB mode (since early productions runs had the fan locked to a 45% minimum). Mine does a little better in terms of overclocking too, with a stable 2088MHz clock after extended load, with around the same temperatures. There really doesn't seem to be any point in paying more for the massively-overbuilt "premium" models.
Paul: did you even do a review of a 3GB 1060? Jay did, and I was impressed with the outcome. Don't knock it until you try it. With that said, this particular 1060 would make for a pretty good gaming HTPC box.
EVGA is really kicking ass with this form. Many people don't have custom built machines and like to upgrade their HP, Dell, Lenovo ...etc PC but have issues with super sized card. This will fit really nicely in many many many cases.
Hi Paul I know you might not see this but I literally just realized you were in Newegg's How to Build a PC series about 5 years ago and those videos were straight up the guiding light in my first baby steps towards the glory of PC gaming.
I have this same card and love it! Pared with I5 6600K, 16 GBs of DDR ram (2.73 ghz) powered by 650 watt PSU. I think I have a thud in terms of overclocking, only 40 mhz on the core, but 250 mhz on the memory. To be honest, this doens't need to be overclocked at 1080P.
I'm building my very first pc. I've done tons of research. Originally I was going to get a 1050ti. And then I discovered the price of the 1060. For about 60 bucks more (depending on where I buy from) I get so much more. I'm most likely going to go with this guy. I think this will fit my needs as a first pc build. Thanks for the review!
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago for a game room PC. I didn't hesitate when I saw it on Newegg for $250. Still need to get the damn thing built.
I just bought it and until it's not delivered I'm watching a bunch of specs videos about it, I noticed on the benchmark and FPS tests the graphics configuration were at the bottom of the screen and each time I paused to read them the UA-cam media player bar stood in front of it, just a feedback to raise that info up a bit, thanks for the great video!
pssst... i would watch a video about the 3gb vs 6gb, not just fps but what jay missed, as in when are you going to max out the 3gb, will that cause stutter, what situations will the 6gb be really advantageous and situations it wont, etc.
I don't even use Display port, yet all of these cards put 3 of those on there. I can't run dual monitors on any of these new cards without buying an adapter :/
That's upsetting, I'd recommend moving towards a set of DP compatible monitors eventually if you could, it will help since the industry seems to be moving in that direction.
Love the tiny cards... love love love them! Makes me want to do a ridiculously tiny ITX build all the more x-). Also good to see that EVGA cards are still overclocking extremely well pretty much across the board, never really had a bad experience with their cards... well... ever...
Paul I was looking for this review LAST WEEK! No one here on UA-cam has a decent review including fan noise... My 1060 will be arriving tomorrow! I ended up getting the Asus 1060 Dual for only $10 more, since the SC was out of stock.
Could you do a review on the Gigabyte 1060 (*non G1*) card? It's a budget card that costs $250, but has more features for your buck, however I heard it suffers from some coil whine issues. (Backplate, LEDs, Dual fans) There aren't many reviews on it, but I'd love to hear your opinion!
I looked at EVGA initially for a 1060, but they were never in stock. I finally settled on the Gigabyte OC version (and it has a back plate unlike this EVGA)! Love it, and have no regrets.
Once you go over the VRAM on your gpu, it switches the remaining textures to be stored on your system memory (RAM). Your ram is nowhere near as fast as the VRAM on your graphics card and when having a large amount of textures stored on your system memory it can cause stuttering and low minimum fps. Sinister Steel There is no future proofing when it comes to PC man. Getting a $200 3GB GTX 1060 is SMART. The value is insane, it's perfect for 1080p, good for 1440p, and will last you until you decide to buy your 12gb HBM2 1180ti, 4K monster card in like 2 years. Anywho, I've posted benchmarks above, you see it running HD texture pack, ultra settings @ 1440p without a hitch. If you really care about "future proofing" get a GTX 1070 or wait for the 1080ti, it'll be here before January of next year.
Sinister Steel P.S. "god i can never understand people." Yeah me either, when someone complains about future proofing on a card that doesn't even have multi-gpu capability (i.e. no SLI connector) XD

Well I don't have a 1060 first of all. With Mirror's Edge Catalyst your thinking of the hyper setting which makes little to no visual impact distinguishable for a massive decrease in performance and a significant increase to vram. You wouldn't run it on a 6GB GTX 1060 either unless you liked 30fps. Both cards will run 1080p Ultra perfectly, and 1440p with a setting or 2 lowered a notch at 60fps. I admire that your able to code, 95% of the worlds population could never do that without contemplating suicide everyday. I wish you the best of luck in finding a career and happiness in one of the only subjects I would never touch. Seriously though, study for 5-6 hours a day for two months on every aspect of computer components, the market, formulas to calculate differences in speed, memorization of benchmarks, learning how everything ticks, and so much more.. I couldn't even bother to type the expansive amount of subjects there are to learn, unfortunately I can't learn anymore other than coding. For me computers and everything pertaining to them is a hobby, I'm almost done with medical school so that's where I'm headed. If you ever get arthritis or coding takes a toll on your mental health, come visit me at the hospital :)
Nice job man! I think the best thing about this card is the size. I'm so happy to see a card of this level not only at the price point offered but in a such a small form compared to the original spec. Thank you!
I think it would be a wast of money to run them DX12 mode because unless you had 2+ monitors, you would have 1 card running 24x7 and 1 card ONLY running when you had a DX12 game that was coded to allow dual GPUs in explicit mode (each game frame split in half for each GPU). OR if you had 2+ monitors, the monitors would be connected to both 1060s to give each some use (if that is even possible in Windows).
I have a zotac gtx 760 and It gets me by just fine. I just ordered this 1060 though because games like the wither 3 and TOmb radier, dark souls 3 are averaging at 45-50 fps on the 760. 1080p monitor.
Put together an SLI 1070 beast as they came out, but before i had a GTX 650TI since 2013 lol. That's with a 1440p monitor. That thing went alright. still managed medium at 1440p oc'd most of the time. Overwatch with high textures, and lighting, all else on low managed to never drop below 45fps at 1440p. The clip i have of ow on my channel was recorded with the good old 650ti. served well, that's for sure.
I have had this exact model for about a month and it is INSANE for the money. Cant get much of an OC out of it but its already OC from the factory. With its single fan size you would think thermals would be a problem. THEY ARE NOT. I can barely get this card to hit 60C while pounding it in benchmarks (I do run the aggressive fan profile tho). FPS for DAYS!. I think the biggest advantage this has over the RX480 is the heat. Jayztwosense did a full watercool on a 480 and it was awesome once it gets cooled down. A watercooler on this card is a waste of time unless your a noise freak.
Ok PC people die hard console gamer there and I wanna give PC gaming a try. I've done a fair amount of research but I honestly can't make up my mind on a GPU. I play bf4 and other shooters like that on my xbox, I want decent fps. Because if I spend more than 300 lol (which I can get a one for) I want it to outperform my xbox by a good amount. Looking at either the gtx 1060 or 1070. Finance student in university so I don't want to spend anymore than $1300. Any help/advice would be great.
One of us... One of us.... One of us.... *cough* hmm oh sorry, not sure where that came from >_>.... ...... Real talk though at that budget I would go for a 1070 all day with a 6600k
At that budget if you play a 1440p resolution the 1070 will be a great card. It can take pretty much max out almost any game you trow at it, at 60 fps+ (With the graphically or badly optimized exceptions here and there). It will destroy any game currently out at 1080p, giving you well over 60 FPS max out. If you game at 1080p, or don't plan on getting a 120-144hz 1080p monitor, i would suggest the 1060. It's a solid performer for 1080p in current gen games, giving 60fps or more max out in most tittles, with a few exceptions where you might want to roll back the settings from ultra/max to high/very high to stay consistently at 60 fps. The 1060 can do well in 1440p gaming but you won't reach 60 fps or close in most tittles if you max out the settings. Lowering them down to medium/high will be needed if you want good frame rates.
1060 3GB shouldn’t be considered a 1060? That 3GB makes the smallest performance difference buddy, maybe the biggest difference you’ll get is 10 frames
Its not the difference in frames but rather future compatibility and run speeds. For example now all games are at 2000-4000 mb ofvram (2-4gb). In coming years, 3gb will not run and 6gb+ cards will over perform :)
I just got the Asus Turbo 1060. Gotta say its putting numbers very close if not evenly matched to what you posted. it cost about the same. I'm very pleased with the 1060 line right now.
Hello everyone and thank you for this quick review. i bought this card 2 weeks ago to upgrade my PC (i7 950 + 12G DDR3 1600 + hold AMD HD6950 2G) at the beginin i was a little bit unhappy as my FPS in CSGO was lower than my previous card (go from 300fps to 250-200) o_O ! and also i noticed an input lag for the mouse at 144hz when my 6950 was doing great. after some research in internet i fixed a little bit the problems (lower the HZ of the screen to lower the inputlag) and it's running good. i can play a lot of games now with no compromise and without spending too much money :). good card at a very good price. GG EVGA ;)
Hey paul Big fan ;) been watching since a year now , i know you're trying your hard but please that cheesy excellent sound its really cringy maybe change your intro
This card is very good with an I5 7600K and 16GB RAM at 50% FAN speed, the temperature stay at 55°C (131°F) in Rainbow Six Siege in Ultra with TXAA X4 AND Assassin's Creed Origins, and other games
Just picked this up from fry's priced matched to BB's $241 sale price. Well worth the price. Thrown into an HTPC and running everything i throw at it on ultra at a solid 60fps at 1080P
I'm still using my EVGA GTX 960 SC 4GB and, holy crap, it's a tiny, little beast! 1430MHz with no OC! I'm gonna miss it when I finally upgrade in a month :(
Thanks for the review, Paul. I´m not crying after the SLI nor the blinking leds either. It is good to concentrate on what counts. Constructive: Please don´t speak on the noise test, as it is a delicate moment when people turn their 500W sound reinforcement systems up so they can hear the whirring. Also some reference sound might be good to compare all noise recordings against. That is, every time play the reference sound and then the recorded noise file. What this reference might be, I have no idea. Maybe the system without a graphics card?
A dumb thing to "like" but i like how you're intro is simple, funny with the B&T's sample and most of all its only 2 seconds long. Hate intros that are 10+ seconds and just look like a stock intro template with their name thrown in.
I was really excited to get an RX 480 8G and then EVGA comes out with this little gem!. I still might go with Radeon. I like to support AMD/Radeon just to keep NVIDIA and INTEL honest and for me they perform adequately but this seems like a really good card at a really good price point. If you could run two in SLI I am sure that people would be getting one now and one later. I guess there is still a multi GPU solution just not an SLI bridge? Whatever advantage Radeon had by coming out with a card with great capability for two to three hundred dollars, they seem to have lost due to availability issues and now these 1060s are also available with overall better performance. I suppose the possibility of Radeon gaining due to DX12 or Vulkan support is still worth considering but it seems that 1060 is the best bang for the buck right now.
I like the new way of giving stats. only thing I'd change would be have the letters outlined in black instead of just white. without the outline the letters get drowned out in some of the clips.
evga, gigabyte, msi, zotac & Asus which one is better in built quality & temperature. I'm not concerned about aesthetics or overclocking because it's not a huge difference in all of these custom designed cards
I purchased this card to "replace" my aging gtx 690. It's only slightly less powerful than the 690 in terms of raw performance but the higher memory and less power and noise make the difference for me. It will hold me over for a bit while I decide my next enthusiast level card. Crazy a $260 card is the equivalent to a $1000 card of yesteryear.
I think for the gamer on a budget who doesn't feel they need to run maxed out, it is a great buy for the price. This cheap upgrade could make your pc more viable for a couple years before you want to upgrade again.
Hi! I have two unused vent holes on my case. I think they have no purpose other than letting the dust in. One intake fan and one exhaust fan take care of airflow. What is the best way for me to seal/cover those holes both regarding function and aesthetics? Case is Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus. Thank you.
So beside the obvious size and lack of a 2nd cooler is their any real downfalls with going for a small mini version over the usual standard dual fan versions? These are basically identical in term of speeds compared to the larger versions only these are more used for mini itx builds due to its small form?
Whats the difference between Evga's FTW + & FTW + DT besides the fact that their clock speeds differ out the box. Cant they both be overclocked to around the same in precision x? I sure wish someone addresses this
Hey Paul, it'd be nice to see where this card falls among other cards you've tested. I think if you just keep a running list going that would be awesome, maybe score the cards based on a points scale you come up with. This would be helpful in seeing a visual of where the best cards are in anyone's budget. Just a thought.
Does the 1 fan affect the cooling compared to having 2 fans or 3 fans?? I'm not looking to overclock, but my room temperature can get very high sometimes.
I love the EVGA small form factor cards. I currently have a 950 in that size in my HTPC/media and kids Steam in-home-streaming server for my various Steam-link boxes in my house and it works very well in the cramped mini ITX case. This might be a nice upgrade for it.
Think of it this way... The card is running at 1300MHz (for example) with the max speed being 1600MHz. It only had to run at 1300MHz for a while because the game hasn't been that intensive, all the sudden an explosion kicks in randomly and the card runs the first part of that explosion at 1300MHz instead of its top speed 1600MHz. So it causes that dip to 17fps but immediately jumps back up to its average/expected frame rate. Does that make sense?
Finally got it on Amazon for $275, which is surprising considering it's been out of stock for so long and resold for an extra $50-$150. I have a 560Ti right now, so needless to say, it was probably time to upgrade.
It's not just about length, thickness is important too.
I agree, but lets be real it all about how you use it..

you mean the girth?
"Just shy of 7 inches long..." yea, but is that an "internet 7 inches"?

wow, the idle noise is so quiet
Probably because the fan's not moving.
it's not like solid state parts make noise just by sitting there.

its cuz the fans dont spin while idle

I plan on buying this card, would you still recommend it?

I know it has been a year but I have that card and find it pretty noisy, what is that 0db mode and won't it make it overheat?
That's what she said!

arrshyan ...and still expensive!
5 years and now is even more expensive than original MSRP
@@juliocalderon9776bro im still grinding all games on high specs with this masterpiece
Always hilarious when they play fan sounds with no reference, like it has any meaning or utility at all.
Imo, this card looks better then their 1080...
true true
Nah the 1080 looks so nice, the FTW and classified do at least...
hate the 1080 back end , you can see the plastic cover of the led its pretty ugly so yes the 1060 look better overall
Should I get this one instead of the regular 1060 6gb founders?
Jexiel Aviles yes
Finally found it for $248 in Amazon. I can't wait to upgrade from a GTX 960 with 2gb.

It costs more to add an HDMI port than a DisplayPort. You can go DP>HDMI with a passive adapter though

Silly Paul. 3GB EVGA GTX 1060 SC is $200, you save $60 which is over 20% savings and lose 6-8% fps. NO PROBLEMO. Amazing back for buck.

Thank you!
is it possible for the partner board to add sli to the 1060?
No because sli 1060s can rival a 1080 so it is not a good financial decision for Nvidia
nay, it is forbidden
Nvidia wont licence them to make it. So while they might technically be able to they never will sadly
what about running two in dx12 does that work?
I think it would be a wast of money to run them DX12 mode because unless you had 2+ monitors, you would have 1 card running 24x7 and 1 card ONLY running when you had a DX12 game that was coded to allow dual GPUs in explicit mode (each game frame split in half for each GPU). OR if you had 2+ monitors, the monitors would be connected to both 1060s to give each some use (if that is even possible in Windows).
this guys awesome, watched his newegg PC build tutorial from like 3 years ago, didn't know he had his own channel
i personally use this card and have not once been disappointed
I'm looking at 1060s. Do you recommend the single fan, or should I spend more and get the Dual fan?
fanisforOC.RU
OC|?
I just realized, i never had actually subed to this channel...Just been watching it for years...wow
I have a 760. I am still happy.
still ok for 720 max or 1080 medium-high. I use a r9 280 it's very similar and also still fine
45-50 isn't that bad. I mean some people play Minecraft with Intel family chipsets... feelsbad

I put this in my pc to play some vr and after I installed all of the drivers the improvements were ridiculous! Money well spent.
Paul, you're the best!
Too bad all the miners got this one
Finally got mine today on Amazon for $275
This is a great card, been using it for a year now and EVGA are a top company.
Any help/advice would be great.
at that budget I would recommend a 1070.
unless your gaming at 1080p
With that budget you can easily fit an i5 6600k + 16gb of ram + gtx 1070 + ssd etc etc
Lowering them down to medium/high will be needed if you want good frame rates.
testing the different sound lvls of the card was great, big thumbs up ! :)
Well, it is still longer than my pee pee......
I guess it had more than what you can handle...
Ya know, I like Pauls Hardware, its all the stuff we love without any bullshit. Kudos to you sir for this channel! :)
1060 3GB shouldn’t be considered a 1060? That 3GB makes the smallest performance difference buddy, maybe the biggest difference you’ll get is 10 frames
2 frames at best
Its not the difference in frames but rather future compatibility and run speeds. For example now all games are at 2000-4000 mb ofvram (2-4gb). In coming years, 3gb will not run and 6gb+ cards will over perform :)
And if you have been gaming long enough you know that you'll buy new before waiting it out.
You guys only thinking about gaming... Yeah dure there's it's not that big of a deal, but for video production those extra 3gb are glorious.
I just got the Asus Turbo 1060. Gotta say its putting numbers very close if not evenly matched to what you posted. it cost about the same. I'm very pleased with the 1060 line right now.
MINERS!!!! fucking Miners its 500 bucks on amazon, wtf
I just bought the 3 gig version super clocked EVGA 1060 put it in last night and I'm super happy with it. The 6gig gets a wee bit better fps.
is this sli ready
lol
I have this card, fast, quiet, cool and well priced. An excellent buy compared to other 1060's at around the same price.
everyone like and comment on the video! It help Paul out big time! Also, why haven't you bought a shirt? You are just being selfish with your money!
Food, shelter, kids... dam selfish of me. ;-)
everyone listen to Wes
Paul needs all of that! He needs your money to provide that for his family. :)
Paul's Hardware Does superclocked mean its been overclocked already, sorry i am a noob to pc building oppose to pc gaming.
Immortal Yes, usually
got mine for $115 and it runs most games still amazingly well at over 60fps
Same here for Rp1.8Million and yeah $115 + Ryzen 5 3400G
300$ might as well get a gtx 1070
not today
thats its price now ($300)
Hello everyone and thank you for this quick review. i bought this card 2 weeks ago to upgrade my PC (i7 950 + 12G DDR3 1600 + hold AMD HD6950 2G)
at the beginin i was a little bit unhappy as my FPS in CSGO was lower than my previous card (go from 300fps to 250-200) o_O ! and also i noticed an input lag for the mouse at 144hz when my 6950 was doing great.
after some research in internet i fixed a little bit the problems (lower the HZ of the screen to lower the inputlag) and it's running good. i can play a lot of games now with no compromise and without spending too much money :). good card at a very good price. GG EVGA ;)
on amazon it says this card needs 400 watt, is this real`?
EVGA recommends a 400 watt power supply unit for a rig using this card. The card itself draws 120 watts.
Hey paul Big fan ;) been watching since a year now , i know you're trying your hard but please that cheesy excellent sound its really cringy maybe change your intro
aww but I like my intro
ty though :-D
been watching years as well, never change Paul!
It's what keeps us coming :)
Paul don't change it for the 12 year old lol
change your name. it sounds cringy to me. :-)
3:45 Minimum 8.7fps? Do you know at which part that was?
I bought the non SC base model of this for $199.99.
this rocks! my gtx 780 OC died and I love this.
Ok so what about temperature? Does that one cooler doing his job well, or it`s not enough just one cooler?
I picked up the 3 gig version of this and it is a BEAST!
so just curious, is this an identical reference board? would a backplate for watercooling a regular GTX 1060 fit on this card?
I recently bought the dual fan version and love it!
is there a significant difference in performance between this video card and the regular GTX 1060?
Whats the difference between Evga's FTW + & FTW + DT besides the fact that their clock speeds differ out the box. Cant they both be overclocked to around the same in precision x? I sure wish someone addresses this
Good content for the people. Keep it up, Paul !!
FYI, if you're American you should really check BestBuy everyday. They are selling PNY and EVGA 1060s at MSRP with free shipping.
great review I just installed thus into my computer Tuesday I love it
Hey Paul, it'd be nice to see where this card falls among other cards you've tested.
Does it overheat
retailers have ramped up the price as of 7/19.2017 to the $400 to $500 area, same for the RX 480 AND 580
Love the new way you are showing the benchmark scores; I was getting sick of graphs ha ha.
Great video Paul! Looks like a good choice for HTPC's
thanks Paul for the review. I just bought one from amazon but I have not installed it yet.
I love the EVGA small form factor cards. I currently have a 950 in that size in my HTPC/media and kids Steam in-home-streaming server for my various Steam-link boxes in my house and it works very well in the cramped mini ITX case. This might be a nice upgrade for it.
So 3GB version will not cut it for 4K gaming? Can you test test 3GB version also and compare?
4:28 whut all the AMD rx cards are sold out, and availability for the gtx 1060 is good. basicly only reason i am buying this
How does this compare to the mini zotac 1060?, i'm really tempted to get one of these mini cards.
Why was the minimum FPS for GTA and Metro so low? 8.7 FPS and 17.9? Those seem incredibly low as far as dips in performance go.
Those drops are quite rare:
Think of it this way... The card is running at 1300MHz (for example) with the max speed being 1600MHz. It only had to run at 1300MHz for a while because the game hasn't been that intensive, all the sudden an explosion kicks in randomly and the card runs the first part of that explosion at 1300MHz instead of its top speed 1600MHz. So it causes that dip to 17fps but immediately jumps back up to its average/expected frame rate. Does that make sense?
Hello, Do you think that the SC version is really worth or it's better tu buy the regular one non-clocked?
Still running a GTX 750 with my 6600k.... Getting one of these for christmas hopefully
Finally got it on Amazon for $275, which is surprising considering it's been out of stock for so long and resold for an extra $50-$150. I have a 560Ti right now, so needless to say, it was probably time to upgrade.
