AMTRAK TURBOLINER LEAVING PENN STATION-NY (12-31-97)

- A rare video indeed is this view taken on New Years Eve 1997 at Penn Station in New York as an Amtrak Rohr Turboliner is seen leaving the terminal heading to Albany. The Rohr Turboliners days were numbered however, they were sent for rebuilding in 2002 to Amtraks' Delaware facility but the work was stopped leaving the trains in various stages of rebuilding unfinished. As of this writing, there was interest expressed by an artist to buy the trains and convert them to restaurants or pieces of artwork.
Thanks for the question, monica012077. No, there were no diesel fumes at Penn Station. Remember, Penn Station is very strict about allowing diesels to run in the terminal. If an Amtrak train has a P42 diesel, there will usually be an electric locomotive heading out. (as seen in my other video AMTRAK TRAIN ENTERING PENN STATION).
Wow, the Turboliners had a nice sound to them :-)
Glad you enjoyed it!
love this!
also do u remember if u could smell fumes? I know at Grand Central back in the day the bomber sets had the locomotives right by the gates & the diesel fumes were overbearing!
Is there a full version of this?
Damn! so those LED signs are not very new. BTW nice vid.
Basically it is like a jet engine inside the power cars, or something like that!
Was this on electric? I mean i can hear the gas turbine (i think) but i heard that the rtls had an electric mode for penn central
Cela est bon.
Last I heard they are all razor blades now, except for one VERY decrepit RTG power car in someone's back yard somewhere in Indiana.
Also notice that the rear turbine on this train was kept on for HEP.
There’s actually 2 RTL TurbolinerIII’s Left On Amtrak Property painted in PhaseV used for First Responder training. So not all Turboliners were scrapped after all.
