Thank you kingoftrains2000 for pointing out differences in your video.
A few other sources I can't remember unfortunately.

They sound different, that's a real easy one
make the differences between R62 and R62A
The R142 uses Alstom's Propulsion used on the R160 and R160A (running on the (C) (J) (Z) (F) (E) (L) (M) and (Q) lines) and the R142A uses Bombardier's Propulsion also used on the R143 (running on the (L) line today)
@MATTHEW HERNANDEZ The R142A Was Upgraded to R188 in 2013 to replace all R62s on the Line 7
@MATTHEW HERNANDEZ Well idk, The R142As are Old, The R188s were newly Built, Some R142A that they didn't have the HVAC and CBTC, so 7211-7590 Cars Had to be Upgraded to the New R188 Unit, 7899-7936 Cars were Newly Built too to Expand the Converted R142As from 5 Car Sets to 6 Car Sets, R142s & R142As were Built to Replace the Redbird Train on all lines... geez, Why can't they just accept the rolling stock that they already got?
Chad M TWitter is're and a few years back
I honestly prefer the R142A and the R188 over the R142, mainly because of it’s appearance and it’s satisfying AC traction motor sounds.
Actually, R142s and The Alstom Metropolis 98B Does have the Same Motor, R142As Don't Exist, Because Some were Converted into R188s.
Isolatic JFK
Same
Too quiet... =/
Same
The HVAC system is another way to tell the difference too. The R142 is really loud but the R142A is moderately quieter
the opposite
Yeah my little brother loves the r142a/r143/r188
R160: Siemens ? What about me ?
The R142 has pauses between the route info on the signs on the outside and inside, while R142As have a smooth transition with no pauses like the R188.
forgot the Trucks. The R142 rides on the Bombardier B35-P radial trucks and the R142A rode on the standard Kawasaki KW155 truck
Another difference is the propulsion of the Trains
Neat differences! The only differences I noticed were the displays and motors on the two trains.
Great information. Love it. I will definitely look for these differences next time riding the subway in NYC. Thanks.
yeah
yeah
Nice video, I never really understood the difference between those two cars besides the different propulsions (and even I get those mixed up sometimes). Also, am I the only one who noticed that the 4 Train near the end said "Via Pelham Line" and then was followed by a 6 Train, the actual Pelham Line train.
The 142s also have a band / molding just below the window stretching from one end to the other. The 142A just have a seam along the length of the train. They also have different trucks.
R142 propulsion: yawn
R160 propulsion: gotta fast
R188: idk
The indoor signs, the red and orange door indicators, the speakers both inside and out, and of course the builders plates
Nice! You are using the Numa Numa/Dragostea Din Tei Song in your background I can’t forget Gary Broslama
O zone
BROO THE DIFFERENCE IS THE R142A IS JUST BETTER
Yeahhhhhh even better on the 6 line and 2 line
Another difference is the light at the front that says what line the train is running. It seems to be more zoomed in on the r142, as the whole circle covers the LED, but the r142A does not.
I'm not sure if anybody knows this well about the R142 and R142A/R188, the main difference that I can tell is the Front Route Display. On R142 cars, it comes out as a solid red. on R142A/R188, it comes out as Orange rather than red. the font is also different on both cars. The R142A font is thinner than the R142 font which is much wider.
Thanks dude and got the difference
Different propulsion and for the R142A and R188 the speakers are on the curved panels but the R142 has it in the center observed this on R142A R188 converted 7311 & 7474 and R142 1220 4 train
Also, the bottom right and left hand corners of the door frame are different too.
I like the music you chose
Another difference is that in the R142 the LED screen that tells you stops turns off when change and in the R142A it does not and the R142 sounds like the R160 and the R142A sounds like the MBTA Green Line Type 8 Cars.
redphone243 The R142 sign doesn’t really turn off. It’s just that it goes blank because the train number/letter stays on while the stuff in red just goes blank.
King R142A 4 train. Take me home outside on the 3 line in Brooklyn.
Can you send me a link to the song pls
The R142s also have Octagon Intercom Announcements located in the middle on top vs the R142As have Round Intercom Announcements located on the sides.
There's also a difference in their interior light fixtures
The music is My worse nightmare
Then it stupid
0:42 - 1:01IT SOUNDS LIKE “My Life Is A Party”!
lunar entertainment it’s a Rihanna song.
This video is My Life Is a Party❗️
hoje é festa la no meu apê
@@Null42x86 latino
@@Bombardier2199 no
I know the difference but we can all agree that the r142a looks and sounds heavier than the r142
Also you forgot they have different departure and arrival noises and the cab door window is different
I liked and subbed cuz I like the song
As a Chicagoan this is my favorite mta railcar
the orange strobes that go off when the doors close are much wider and deeper on the R142
The R142 numbers are 1101-1250 and 6301-7180. The R142A is 7591-7810 (missing difference)
I found you
R142As are now 7211-7810
Also R188 7211-7590 7811-7936
2:30 so are we all ignoring this R142A converted to an R188 at Jay Street with R32 behind it.
What song is in this video
R the track size r different on the irt bmt and ind. Just wondering and what is the lengths.
No, they all use standard gauge, and that's why numbered trains can run on lettered trains' tracks. It's just the train car's width that's different.
A division (IRT) can run on B division (BMT/IND) because they're narrower, but don't because of the gap between the train and the platform.
B Div cannot run on A Div because they're too wide for A Div platforms and too long for A Div curves.
But, both use standard gauge tracks st 56.5" wide.
A Div
8'9" W
51'4" L
B Div
10' W
60/75' L
Note: the company that made them is not the same. The propulsion is different
The speaker placement is different too like the r179 r142 has ceiling and r142a wall sliea
Do R143, R160A, R160B, and R179. Sound makes part of it. For sound record it with the motor, announcements, and door closing chime. Do the same. Also include an R160A and R160B coupled together
oh fuck I NEVER noticed the line on the top of the trains...
2:33 damn R142 at jay street metro tech
(also anybody noticed numa numa was playing?)
I herd numa numa
N dude I like that song
It might be it's shape how long it is
In my opinion these are the best subway cars in MTA’s rolling stock
R142 uses self leveling air spring suspension while R142A doesn’t
Which one was was lanched first? R142 or R142A?
Jeff Rouse R142 Bombardier in 1999, entered service 2000
Both entered service on the same day
@@Creired they didn't actually. The r142as came a few months to a year after the r142s.
Another difference is the the door head sealing is thinner on the r142A then R142
The R142 has Alstom Propulsion from the R160/R160A and the R142As have the Bombardier propulsion with the R143/R188
Another difference is that the propulsion on the R142 is the same propulsion on the R160, while the R142A has the same propulsion as the R143
In the picture on 0:44, you don't see a wall panel on the R142 on the right side. They have side panels on both sides...
.
nice
I always wondered why the windows were different.
R142a is always the Best train in New York besides the D train r188 I believe That’s why I take the 4 train everyday I purposely wait for the r142a
Even when commuting to work? I wouldn't want to do that.
No
Now yes R142A
For me i differentiate them by the side screens
For r142A the numbers look more "square" sharper and bold but for r142 the numbers look more rounded
@N Dude cause we have to challenge 3 type of cars on R142 R142a and R188
what's the song?
Are the storm doors the same or no
@@lescharles9 they're slightly different
Here's another difference, the black and red on the R142A is darker than the R142
Imagine if they connected a 142s and a 142a so that we can see the differences.
N dude what is the music can someone give me a link?
It's a remix of 2004's "O-zone".
3 more differences
The R142 is dirtier than the R142A
Edit: The window frames are also different on the sides
Also edit: Finally there are different propulsions
Is the ride different on both cars
thanks kai.
Now I know that I’ve been on an R142A and not a regular R142
They're on the 2 and 5. I ride every day. They're starting to show their age though.
Do difference between R179 and R211
I never found out why these trains have a three door setup on each side instead of the 4 door setup like all the letter trains
The R160 has 4 doors instead of 3
Another difference between the two is that the R142 and R142A have different rail sounds.
I don’t like the LCD exterior displays on the R142A/R188s. They are defective, while the external LED route and LCD destination signs on the R142 are in great shape. Conversely, the propulsion on the R142s sucks, compared to the R142A/R188s.
And the r142 fleet numbers range from 6301-7180. R142S 1101-1250.
The font route is just like an R188
Another difference is that the R142 has an R160A propulsion and the R142A has an R143, R188 propulsion
i can tell by yankee games since R142A runs during games, and more lighting and door sound
I was in New York and I looked on the wheels and I saw the name
PLEASE TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT THE REMIX FROM!
I have the song on my mobile tablet hsha
i cant find this version of 8 bit numa numa
TransitFanKid it's basically This video lol, just imagine this is the whole song video
Enmanuel Diaz yeah lol
also it’s faster than the real numa numa
1:43 what is that line? 11 train?
Looks like S to me
It’s 5
Another difference is that the R142 is made by bombardier while the R142A is made by Kawasaki
Theres another didference. On the outside, on both the r188 and r142a itheres a gray piece thing over the wheels and on the r142 there seems to be a more mechanical looking thing overe botg the wheels. Look at puctures of the wheels real closely and maybe you might see wh what i mean
The 142a cars are more attractive. I wonder when the MTA will replace the older fleet. these newer cars will soon be 20 years old.
R142A 7211-7810 Kawasaki
R142 6301-7180 1101-1250 Bombardier
Another difference id the wheels on the r142 its a dark brown on the r142a its a wayyy lighter brown
😱
I like R142 better than R142a because the R142a doesn’t have a line
Why the line what about the face
i like both
I can only tell by the propulsions
I know the 2 and 5 are exclusively R142s. I think the 4 is all 142As, but I'm not sure. The 6 USED to be mostly 142As until they shipped 'em to the 7!
the 4 is about half 142s and half 142as
2 and 5 have r142A too wdym
@@Persac7only during GOs that involve the 4 or 5
R142A, has low beams on the bottom, while R142 is on the top!
Another way to tell the difference r142 if you look at the side near rhe roof you will see a line that goes across the cars r142a dosent have that
I prefer R142A
@N Dude you should put this video different between R142 R142a and R188
.
R142 uses R160 Alstom propulsion and R142A uses R143/R188 propulsion.
And the sound
Mya her mya hoo mya her mya ha ha mya he mya hoo mya ha mya ha ha
Very very late comment but you missed a difference, you see, on the R142, the frame on the door Has these diagonal thingys While the R142A doesn't. (Again, sorry for the very very late comment)
R142: Bombardier R142A: Kawasaki
You forgot that the Door Width. The R142A is has longer doors. The R142 is shorter doors. You also forgot the door motors.
They're both the same size all around
Yes
Sim yes
Dude, you missed the electric signage where on the r142 it’s more pink, and on the r142a it’s more red.
The Propulsion’s are different
