The corridor under Granins lab with that sliding door you mentioned is part of the other side of the buildings underground corridor to the jail cell (the one you wake up in if you load your game in the End sniper battle and he’s not dead of old age) there’s two stairs to the basement. One to the jail side- one to the researcher’s side where you find Granin. They’re “connected” but because the sliding cell door locks off the route you have to take the East stairs to Granin. It’s odd they made the corridor two separate maps… I wager these were made just in case someone actually clipped through the sliding door bars KJP were trying to stop speed runners sequence breaking it to just go down the west stairs and into Granin’s office almost immediately. That’s why the room in there has no details inside, there’s a real version on the other “wing” connected to the other stairs.
11:31 😂😂😂 12:57 I did saw a video where some guy recorded his playthrough by goofing around, he showed where The End was going while using the Stealth Camouflage, he knocked out the guard who was taking him but The End wakes up and started to flee and disappeared just like that 14:51 🤣🤣🤣 17:00 the ladder gives me more of a Red Faction II vibes because it reminds me of the sewers levels but a bit polish 21:12 I remember someone was curious about this from the same video I mention about the guy who was goofing around, it was pretty funny that he somehow teleports into the bathroom right before Johnny gets there because his diarrhea was gone after being seeing Snake there 22:57 I'm pretty it was boxing, not wrestling because of the bell noises 24:48 I can see that you also heard of his drama 28:37 maybe it's because it only works on first person view, during The Boss death scene, when her horse appears, you could see The ghosts of The Boss and The Sorrow where they'll be looking at Snake while they fade away during first person view because you don't seem to show that one neither, but what about the part where The Boss and EVA were mocking at Ocelot while leaving?
Guy savage is a rom separate from the base game, but build in into mgs3 overall iso, the same way the skating minigame in mgs2 is, you can even run the skating minigame separate if you that determined
Reflections, my dude. The warehouse with the upside down map is for floor/puddle reflections. They used the same technique in the first and second game.
I always wanted to see how much detail there was in Granin's room. And also know if Sokolov is inside the room before the door opens, since if we throw a grenade through the window he dies and the mission fails.
I think the posters of models stem from MGS2. It has a lot of conflicting info around it, even before peace walker was released, so I'm not surprised the uploader went with the most recent bit. I think it being Hal's granddad makes more sense tho. But it's too unimportant to care.
I actually bought the PS2 LAN adapter for this game to play online with other players. That’s how I remember how long I’ve had my PSN account, it was around the time this game was released.
The map was repeated most likely upside down to catch a reflection like linoleum floors, or the water reflected before going into the warehouse early games used that for mirrors
Little clip of ocelot saying "flithy american dog!" While snake stands there with the british flag painted on his face killed me bro edit for time stamp 7:29
3:45 There were games on PS2 that used full blown physics models and ragdolls. A little bit of "swaying" isn't anything to write home about on PS2. There were games on PS1 that had that. (Yes. I'm not shitting you. This is the most mundane thing on the PS2.)
Kojima the kind of guy to hide character idol animations, secret cutscenes or Easter eggs outside of the games borders, just for people with a free cam mod. And you know what?? It's funny because kojima apparently was a really huge fan of the interactable cutscenes in halflife.
the mirror world is just that, a mirror, to make reflections in older games usualy it would be as simple as making a semi/translucent surface and having a fliped world on the other side
Nah man all of them are in real time with in-game assets. It's wild they could do that back on the ps2. Same with reflections how they just put a map under the map to create the illusion of reflecting water. The devs back then really worked magic
I played 3 and subsistence well into the ps4/xb1 era. I spent so much time in that game it isn't funny. Probably my longest played game besides FF11. Can't wait for the remake. My reason to finally buy a ps5.

The only reason why you would flip a world upside down would be to fake reflections, many games employ such tricks in their games also when it comes to mirrored surfaces that reflects whats behind the scene, when it's just duplicating you and the environment on the other side whenever they enter that zone where you would see reflections of yourself inside them.

exactly, each mirrored level has reflective elements on the ground like puddles or polished floor. Semi-transparency makes an illusion of reflection.
This was a fairly common trick in this generation of consoles- I believe RE4 used the exact same method for a few of its reflections too.
They used the same trick in first MGS ;)
Yo thats interesting
The upside down rooms is to create fake reflections on the floor above.
It’s a cool little trick, you gotta admit
Yeap , A lot's of old games use this method, because real time reflection is still a thing in 2024 :)
