I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

The person I am buying it for is about 5’5”. The length of the product is listed as 64.9 inches on the carbon fiber as well as on the telescopic adjustable 1511. I’m wondering if the adjustment on the 1511 makes it longer than 64.9 inches or shorter. If the shortest length you can make it is the same as the fixed length of the carbon fiber I would like to buy
the carbon fiber. Can anyone here answer that for me?

Some suggestions for minimising or eliminating the line trimmer cutting out if that is an issue ...
-A Line Trimmer NOT a lawn mower. Use the right tool for the job and you will rarely have any problems.
-Keep the electrical contacts between the battery and the device clean. Use isopropyl alcohol to keep the contacts on the device in brand new condition. Use compressed air to keep the contacts on the battery clean.
-Make sure that that the battery is tightly coupled to the trimmer at all times.
-With the dual speed unit, try to use it as much as possible on the low speed setting. Added benefit is longer battery life.
-Always use the correct gauge of trimmer line. Using thicker line than specified by the manufacturer will lead to premature failure of the unit.
-When using the trimmer without a guard - not advisable but many do it - keep the length of the line to no more than the maxiumum length specified by the manufacturer. Should not be an issue if you always have the guard installed.
-Don't run the trimmer at full speed for several minutes at a time - especially in hotter conditions. Added benefit here is that it will extend the life of the trimmer motor.

Heads Up!! You talked about the Carbon Fiber model power kept dying and you just had to stop and restart. I tech these all day long and here in lies the issue. When you run any stick trimmer without a guard and the string length is too long it stresses the gear box on the trimmer, thus throwing default codes back to the head unit and will shut off the machine. This stress also can happen on a gas model, however, the gas engine can compensate for power. Technically running your Ego trimmer without a head guard voids your warranty on your machine.

@@gigglybeast I wouldn't hold Brett accountable for knowing everything about everything. this is not an Ego issue, this is a battery issue with string trimmers regardless of the brand. 10:40 If trimmer repeatedly shuts off after a few seconds during use, your string is too long. Trim (or reel) your line to an 8-inch limit on each side of the trimmer head and it will run continuously again! 👍😁👍

Got burned with a proprietary attachment system - each company's system is theirs alone. They may choose to phase out support for the current system before your battery's 3-year limit, or another company's powerhead will suddenly look great, but you're locked in with high switching costs. Where to dump my expand-it attachments? *sigh* You'll probly see me dragging a #12 extension cord for my crappy electric hedge trimmer and the edger too....

ST1400 series seems to be the best compromise for most homeowners/non-pros. A decent size (not huge, not tiny) at 13", Powerload for fast string loading, a decent weight/balance, and a middling price. I love the multi-tool head too, but most people don't really need the extra attachments for home use

My old B&D blower finally bit the dust yesterday. I had pretty much decided on Ego for a new blower & trimmer, and your video gave me a much needed education. I am vertically challenged and being able to adjust the length and other features of the ST1511T will suit me well.
I was planning on buying the 615 blower, but when I went to Lowes, they only had the 650 in stock. Of course I bought it. But they did not have the ST1511T trimmer there, so I had to order it online. They had the blower & trimmer sold together, but it was not the right trimmer. The upside is the 650 blower comes with the 5 amp battery. Whoa, this thing is not a toy! It took about 20 minutes for the battery to finish charging and I brought it outside to clean up what was left from yesterday. This thing is so strong, it scared my dogs, lol. It took no time at all to clean up the sidewalk, street in front of my house and my patio. I can't wait to get the trimmer to see what it can do. With buying separate units, I will have two batteries, one 5 amp & on 2.5 amp. Thanks to your video, I knew what the difference was in the units, and I am confident I will have the right trimmer for me.

Helpful video. Do you have the new bump-free model?
For denser grass, don't plunge the head into the thickness. Just use the edge of the string at all times. You technique with the 3rd trimmer was better so you had better results, Also, I think the multi-head one spins in a different direction (counter clockwise?), so you have to adjust your technique to the spin such that debris and cutting edge is going away from you.

You do not need to use EGO branded trimmer line. However, make sure that any trimmer line you do use is fresh line. There are plenty of videos here that will explain how to freshen up trimmer line. I keep my trimmer line permanently immersed in water and get a lot more "mileage" out of it. I buy the EGO line in a bulk reel, cut it up into 4 metre odd lengths and store it in a bucket of water. I store mine in an Esky cooler. I've found that if you store the reel of trimmer line in its packaging it quickly becomes brittle and you go through a lot of it quickly. It gets pretty hot where I am If you must store it in its packet for any period of time (more than a few weeks), just soak a fresh length of line for 24 hours before you put it in the line trimmer.

I love when you're showing how to edge with the 1511 and saying "a whole lot more comfortable.." and it looks like the exact opposite of my definition of comfort.
How much adjustment does the 1511 HAVE, though? You mentioned 2-3" but I've also read elsewhere it's about 12". Which is it?

Bought the Ego. hated it. IT'S AWKWARD AND OFF BALANCED. Very difficult not to scalp the lawn. Shaft Not long enough . A back breaker. No complaints about the power. The string rotates clockwise which is stupid. The battery life is no where near 45 minutes.

We live in Hawaii... Thick cane grass, lots of fibery vines, can have very wet grass. You say it bogs down in thicker grass. Right now i use a Stihl 91... POWERFUL! With thick trim line, can take down small saplings. Will any of the 3 models you showed keep up with my Sthil? And how many hours of run time with 5 ah battery? And can any of them 3 take the 5 ah battery?

Just wish my multi head trimmer spun clockwise like i'm used to instead of counter clockwise. With it spinning counterclockwise all debris shoots right at my leg instead of away from me trimming the way i'm used to doing it. Also, they recently changed the guard on it. The guard now is much smaller than the old one in all of the advertisements and listings. I'm not sure why they changed it and made it smaller without updating their listings to let people know. If it had the original bigger one it probably would've stoppedt he debris from hitting my leg, sigh.....

    • @theobserver9565
      @theobserver9565 3 роки тому

Linear? Does that mean the trigger is variable speed? Can you slow it down (very slow) so when you edge along a chain link fence the string wont break so often?

@@theobserver9565 I recently purchased the carbon-fiber shaft trimmer...It does have a variable speed trigger control, but its range (low to highest speed,) is somewhat limited.
Regardless, I'd never go back to 2 stroke.

I went to the store to pick up a Dewalt string trimmer, as I already have a battery/charger.
Lowe's didn't carry them. Ended up leaving with the Ego for $179. I'm extremely happy that they didn't have a dewalt in stock. The Ego is great, I can't believe I've never heard of them.
