Hi I'm John, and I've been passionate about #history since I could remember. I majored in history and historical reseach and triained for a year under an actual historian. Ultimately I am a a History Buff like many of us. Let's #react and discuss things we know and so much we don't know about history!
In 2001 I was honored to be the recipient of the Jack H. Longaker History Prize. This is an award for a senior year student that shows a great passion for history.
How is this channel different from other history channels? It is simple, I have learned and worked along side many historians verifying and discovering sourcess that add more context to a person, an area or topic. This does not make meautomatically knowledgable in history, this helps me understand how we come to conclusions on history. However, enjoying learning about history we all like makes us History Buffs!

Hi John, I could happily sit and watch you reacting to Philomena Cunk all day. I know that's not what you set out to do, but it's fun all the same. The physical reactions you make when the penny drops with on the serious historical or political points Philomena 'blunder' into are priceless.

As part of the pre internet generation who had to learn everything from books these sort of ironic bored questions came to ones mind often at school . Today it seems people are helpless without it , googling random facts without ever getting the full picture and for me Philomena taps into that in a hilarious way . I think the experts many of whom appear on historical programmes really make the show funny by playing it straight .

Philomena Cunk's character was developed 10 or more years ago as one of 2 or more characters, each with short scenes in a satirical comedy series never watched by me by writer and comedian Charlie Brooker in his Weekly Wipe show. Never heard of him or the show at the time, and I live here.
Philomena Cunk then started as a weekly series of 30 minute or less, and expanded from there.
Never seen by me.
Here's the thing :
I don't think Philomena Cunk worked or became a success originally, or with repeats..
... BECAUSE....
It WAS delivered as a documentary by a slightly silly lady with a Northern accent.
No laughter track, no big trailers beforehand.
I think it doesn't (OK didn't) work on its own.
Comedy reaction channels and later history channels brought it alive, and now everyone can see the genius and hilarity of it all.
"Philomena Cunk" resurrected and saved for posterity by You Tube and The History Buff.
OK and now Netflix plus a resurgence of interest in Diane Morgan ; also probably because of You Tube.
I've only discovered her in the last 4 months.
I also only discovered WILTY and 8 oo10 Cats Does Countdown through You Tube , both also still going strong over more than 10 years.

I can't stand Beyonce, she's so overrated. The people that worship her as though she is a literal god on earth freak me out! Most fandoms do these days lol
