💬 SURPRISE! 😅 I just couldn’t stop working on these! I just worked on it locally from my computer despite not having much space to do so and my new hard drive arrived yesterday. So that’s the good news. And there’s more good news… In case you missed it ( ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxJHIv0SizXDbveVZXsScUWPgT5XiyElGt ) my hard drive crashed and I lost access to all of my work, the finished Boston - Foreplay/Long time video and a bunch of other stuff. Just today, the drive’s manufacturer has agreed to perform a data recovery service on it free of charge for me. My data recovery plan expired a year ago, but they are making a one time exception… which really made my day! The only drawback is there’s no guarantee I’ll get anything back and if I do, it could take up to 30 days to get it returned to me. That’s ok. I’ll take what I can get. As far as artwork… I will just do what I did for this video… create new artwork as I need it. I’m really hoping that I get my finished Boston video back and I don’t have to start that one completely over! There is also no “Making of” portion of this video as I didn’t have the space resources to record the process. I was going to make “25 or 6 to 4” by Chicago my next project… but most of the reactions to it are to the live Tanglewood version and the quality of the audio is not that good. I might have to push this one off for a while. So I’m moving on to yet another epic song by yet another epic band! Onto the next! 💜
Sounds like you’ve been 😲 really rolling with the punches lately! I’m glad the computer people are attempting to help you out.. when people do kind things when they don’t have to it helps restore my faith in humanity 😜 Cheers to another great video! 🎉
@@candybanks8717 Check out the kids that call themselves The Low Darts. They do a lot of Steely Dan, Supertramp and other stuff that is hard to do well. They are exceptional!
The level of Musicianship on this record is NEXT LEVEL. The best studio musicians of all time are on this record. This takes me back. AWESOME choice Momma
In 1980 I was 18years old, left my country in NSW Australia to get work at a steel works factory in Newcastle. Stayed at my aunty and uncles house while my cool older surfer dude cousin went on an overseas trip. He had a stereo in the living room so one day I picked out one of his albums (they were warped by the sun) and to my surprise they played perfectly. What I didn't know about was Steely Dan, when I heard them for the first time I was blown away. I quickly bought as many of their albums I could afford and while I'm now 61 years old still love every track by them when I hear it!
I love Steely Dan ❤ I was 13 in 1970. I love so many artists. The first time I heard Reeling In The Years, I was blown away. I bought every album. I sang in bands and acoustic gigs in the 70s. I wanted to do some Steely Dan, they were all like "are you kidding?" Not easy to pull off.
Michael McDonald was a studio keyboardist and songwriter, with his soulful voice & keys became a member of Steely Dan (1973-1974) but never recorded his music with them, He then joined the Doobie Brothers (1975-1982, 1987, 2019-present). wrote and sang several hit singles. As for Stelly Dan (Donald Fagen, Walter Becker), they became the industry standard of the highest regard. Becker and Fagen played together studying at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, moved to Los Angeles, gathered a band of musicians, and began recording. Their first, Can't Buy a Thrill (1972), blends elements of rock, jazz, Latin music, R&B, blues, and sophisticated studio production.
The bass (played by Chuck Rainey) ) is mind-blowing. And the use of space in both the music and the mixing/mastering is amazing. Genre? It's a mash-up of rock/jazz/funk/soul, often with a touch of sarcasm and cynicism - both music and lyrics.. Pretty much their own sound. Thanks for the reactions!
What a brilliant idea to compile these reactions! I believe I’ve seen them all before, but it’s so great to see them in one spot and so well edited and put together. Thank you!!!
My favorite band since my friend Tom O'Malley in 1973 on his family's turntable said "listen to the guitar in this song". That song was "My Old School". I have never tired of listening to Steely Dan.
Back in the day it was said that Stelly Dan was the band the your favorite band listened to. Every track on Aja should be studied. The musicianship and production is next level.
The pure musicianship of Steely Dan is incredible. They have such an iconic and unique sound! My mom's name is Ricki (short for Fredericka) and one of the first songs I remember hearing and liking as a child was Rikki Don't Lose That Number, because my mom thought it was a hoot that her name was in it. On a weirder note, I wonder if any of these people know where they got their band name from? 😂
Aja! Loved to play Steely Dan on Sunday mornings when i lived at the beach...great way to start a relaxing day !!! Love that Michael McDonald is singing on this track! So i heard that Donald Fagan said at one time..."imagine that Peg takes place at a seedy photo shoot in LA in the 1950s...and that it all comes from the perspective of a jilted boyfriend who was still hanging around...and how it will come back to her." When i think of it that way the lyrics really bring the meaning forward...great choice Wondermomma! You are the best! ❤Thank you so much for the memories!!! Love you! ❤❤
Ooooo, 77 was a great yr. Thanx for the awesome memories. Love seeing so many loving the music/magic of the time. Thanx so much Momma, take care, Peace
I love these compilation reactions! I thank the creator for justifying my belief of the power of music. The songs and bands I grew up loving are finally being appreciated, every single reviewer has a big smile on their face and that was how it hit me 40+ years ago and still does.
I am a massive Steely Dan fan. My children probably grew up being sick of hearing them. There's just no possible way to put this song on and not smile and have the groove grab your booty. Steely Dan was a once in a lifetime experience. There is not been a band like them before or since. I've not seen a band fuse jazz funk and Rock, other than them...so seamless. Michael Mcdonald from the Doibie Brothers singin backup was that icing on the cake!!
Love Steely Dan. 😅 Always feels like home to me when I hear it because that was always my moms GO-TO on Saturdays when we would clean house and work on projects. ❤
Welcome to the spectacular world of Steeley Dan! Love watching tgese different people reacting, smiles poppin', heads bobbin', hands flailin', enjoying the greatest musical band of all time!!!
Great choice Momma! Can't go wrong with the AJA album. Hopefully you do more Steely Dan like Do It Again, Hey Nineteen, or Deacon Blues. Anyway glad you got your computer fixed, looking forward to more content!!!!😊
I’m a little late but more Steely Dan please! Love the Dan and it’s always amazing to see people understand why they’re some of the best to ever do it!
Always a hit - you can't go wrong with these pro's! Donald Fagen solo is also fun - my favorite Steely Dan song is probably Haitian Divorce, not for the topic but the ear candy!
hahah YES! I've thought about doing a compilation of signatures of different reactors and that is one of the things about Airplay Beats... when he shakes his head back and forth. Salvo G sings a lot, Lost in Vegas says "yeah man, this is hot", Shon grabs his beard a lot... 😅. I am so relieved to hear someone else say the head thing about La.

One of the best albums from one of the best musical talents ever. Not the best song off the album (That’s “Deacon Blues”) but my wife loves it and that’s what counts.
It is so cool to see these reactions. This is the music from my college days. We had sooooo much incredible music in the 1970's. I'm glad to see this generation reacting to Steely Dan the way we did when it was released. Peg is one of their best. You can never go wrong with The Dan.
So much love i have for Steely Dan! 😍 Timeless music and a superb musicianship, very talented and versatile group of musicians 👏🏻 I hope that you bring more comps of Dan's songs 🙏🏻
What a fun choice, Momma! So many side-to-side head slides/nods. 😁 As a kid, I thought it was “Pain … it will come back to you.” 😅 I love the acoustic guitar version you chose for the reactor’s summaries. Lovely.
Story goes they asked the bass player Chuck Rainey ( a bass legend ) not to slap ( a bass playing technique ) and just play finger style ( a basic bass playing technique ) on the recording after a couple of practice takes when it was time to record Chuck blocked his bass from view some say he turned his back to the rest of the band and played using the slap technique anyway and they liked the final product and left it as is. Peg is my all time favorite Steely Dan song Btw The band was made up of session musicians and artists from other groups including Michael McDonald
Love me some Steely Dan. Timeless music. I know this is from Aja but “Can’t buy a thrill” is my favorite. Good job WonderMomma. I hope that you do get all of your hard work back on your new hard drive🤞🏼. Anxious for Boston.
This song was I heard made because I think one of the people, in the band had dated a Japanese woman named Peg. But there was another version where there was an up-and-coming actress who killed herself who jumped off the Hollywood sign her name was Peg. And you can actually look that up.
Thanks for this one Momma!!! Reminds me of my sister in law, her name was Peg. She passed a few years back and miss her. How about some Kroken - Screaming in the Night, flash backs for sure......
After almost 50 years I still react the exact same way every time I play this tune. Chuck Rainey (bass) and Rick Morotta (drums) drive this tune, and Michael McDonald's vocals are subtly insane.
Hot damn what a great song to do. You just keep doing that Momma. Wow. I don’t know that I’ve ever paid super close to the lyrics, but this song just grooves. It’s a timeless and funny groove. Well done! And damn shame the source video isn’t there for 25 or 6 of 4, that’s such a great song to get reactions to as well.
I love how you can tell its the first time they are hearing songs, I'm here bouncing and bobbing, singing along word for word and they are just bouncing and bobbing lol
Steely Dan is an exceptional band of talent. Donald Fagen (vocals) put out an album called NY Rock and Soul Review Live from the Beacon. Several known artists including Phoebe Snow and Michael McDonald singing some of the best music and one of my favorite albums.
Ok, yes of course I know this song. But like most songs that I knew pre-MTV, I didn’t know the name or who sang it. In fact, I always thought the line was “Hey, it will come back to you”, so the title didn’t give me a clue what song this was 😂

I'm 70 and Steely Dan is still up there when I get into my car and want a decent tune to cruise with. Superlative band that has withstood the test of time.
Thank you, that means a lot. I am not very patient with the commentaries. lol I don't listen to a whole lot of them when I am just browsing... and when I get to that part of the video in a compilation I'm ready to be done😅 so I just do short tidbits of commentary. lol

Thank you, that means a lot. I am not very patient with the commentaries. lol I don't listen to a whole lot of them when I am just browsing... and when I get to that part of the video in a compilation I'm ready to be done😅 so I just do short tidbits of commentary. lol
Thank You, WonderMomma!
