Cards to add in: In terms of working with the dragon component of the deck, the two core cycles of dragons that I think are auto-adds are the Dragonlords and the Regents. I think you run all five of the Dragonlords: Ojutai is card draw, Dromoka you went over, Atarka is removal, Silumgar is essentially removal, and Kolaghan is a haste enabler (that also randomly hoses Shadowborn Apostles/Relentless Rats). Among the Regents, I like all but the green one. Deathbringer is a six-mana board wipe that leaves you with a 5/6 flyer, not bad at all. Thunderbreak is one of the cheapest dragons you can run (three drop with Ur-Dragon) and has a semi-relevant ability. But also 4/4 flyer for 3. You run that. Icefall is a 4/3 flyer for 4 that locks down a threat and has some resilience. Sunscorch is a 4/4 flyer for 4 that grows larger; those kind of card get big fast and can force removal on a creature you're not very invested in. Or it's not removed and you wind up with a 12/12 flyer that gained you 8 life. Both seem good. From there you kind of fill in with generically good dragons, but that's not that hard to do I don't think. I do think it's important to consider the curve of your dragons though. A lot of dragons are at CMC6, but I really don't want to lock my entire deck into that mana point, even if Ur-Dragon is bringing it down. Grabbing a selection of good five-drop dragons (which includes two Regents and a Dragonlord, look at that!) is critical I think, and while you don't have many dragons cheaper than that, you definitely want Thunderbreak and can consider a couple Changelings; Chameleon Colossus and Tarean Mauler in particular. Dragons above six should be carefully limited; even though you /can/ ramp that far, and will get there in most games I found, you don't want to be /forced/ into it. Interactive cards are what they are; I'm looking at 3-4 counterspells (biggest one, Stubborn Denial. Seriously every Ur-Dragon deck should run that card), a couple anti-wipe cards (on top of Teferi's Protection, available options are Boros Charm and Heroic Intervention), and then a bunch of removal pieces/board wipes. Then just card draw and rebuilding the ramp package, boring but easy at least. One thing that I do want to note is that I honestly disagree about one of the earlier points in the episode: I do actually feel Ur-Dragon is the best commander for the deck. Scion is absurdly powerful, and if we look at a full-power Scion deck against a full-power Ur-Dragon deck, the Scion deck is objectively much better. That's true. However, the Scion deck is not dragon tribal. At that point you're playing a combo deck that happens to have a couple dragons in it. That's a big and expensive set of upgrades. If you build dragon tribal Scion versus dragon tribal Ur-Dragon, I think Ur-Dragon actually wins out there.
I'm honestly very happy with this one. Replace tge mana base with 10 shocks and the 5 khans fetches, and take the curses out for chromatic lantern and other mana rocks, and that's it. It might not be optmal, but it's powerful and fun. Not to mention "budget".
You just have to watch exactly the first minute of this episode to see what great chemistry you two have! And i love you guys for not cutting that first-hand-evidence thing out :D
I am somewhat new to MTG but i really enjoy your content. Extremely fun to listen in podcast, and even better when watching. Thank You for making me feel welcomed to the community! You all ROCK!
The Ur-Dragon's emmance ablity also works on all cards with changeling. You can use this to take the deck in a totally different (changeling tribal) direction or just fill in some gaps in the mana curve.
In my opinion I would put Urza's incubator and Skithiryx, the blight dragon (4/4 infect flying Dragon with regenerate for 2 black and haste for 1 black). Also I would put Balefire Dragon. Because of different cards that give haste if you have already put Atarka it would be great. Moreover I may put Surrak dragonclaw because of a 6/6 flash which can't be countered, gives trample to all my creatures and creatures spell I control can't be countered. Otherwise, as always, you've done a massive work about this pre-con Thank you it helps me a lot !!!
Ugh, I love the curses! Plus, there's an infinite combo in this deck involving the curse of bounty. Attack the cursed player with Hellkite Charger and Savage Ventmaw, use the curse trigger to untap any mana rock, of which there are many in the deck, and you can pay the Hellkite Charger additional combat phase trigger without spending any additional mana. Unless I'm incorrect about this, but I don't feel like I am.
One idea could be to use Scion of the Ur dragon to fill your grave with dragons and use another effect, ideally a permanent, to reliably put them back into play. This would generally be less dependent on your mana pool depending on which effects you use and, if my ruling is correct, eliminate the problem of counter spells when the engine is online. One dragon to add could be Teneb, the Harvester because it is a dragon and has a recursion effect built in.
Good suggestions for upgrades. I'm really looking forward to this deck! Adding: Xenagos, God of Revels - Haste and damage doubling seems good Hellkite Tyrant - Steal all the pretty mana rocks Rhystic Study - Tends to slow down opponents' tempo which this deck needs Whip of Erebos and Patriarch's Bidding - Recursion! Heroic Intervention, Asceticism and Boros Charm - Protecting dragons as you talk about Selvala's Stampede - Crazy value Balefire Dragon - Boardwipe on a stick Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - Card draw, ramp, and colour fixing Dragon Broodmother - Baby dragon chump blockers that can eventually devour into one big dragon
O-Kagachi might make for a good 1v1 commander, especially if you can find ways to equip it with doube strike and vigilance, alongside cards like Bident of Thassa that force your opponent to attack you with what they have. Then you are threatening multiple exiles per turn, and that isn't counting if you find ways to give additional combat steps. I think that would actually be a super fun deck to build, considering the card is 6 mana and not 9 like the ur dragon
Bear umbra + hellkite charger = infinite combats.. plus if you have ur dragon on the field it'd make you play infinite permanants and draw your deck. With O-Kagachi it'd make for infinite exiles too if you get attacked. Just some random shit I thought about running in my scion deck.
Ramos is a great card. Add Breya/Atraxa as the 99 for instant 4 counters. Deepglow skate to multiply it more. Be cheeky and have Legacy Weapon to threathen the board untill you can Door someone. Cards like Voltaic key/Tezzeret the Seeker can help untap if you want to go that route. All is dust/ Eldrazi titans seems fair to slam onto the board, not to mention you could even add Overwhelming Splendor to really shut someone down while going off.
Just a friendly note, A rebounded spell triggers at the beginning of your next upkeep, not at the end step. I noticed you said it wrong while reading Taigam.
The thing with a 5 mana-base deck is that you have pretty much all the options in terms of what to add to the deck. The deck is probably the most versatile out of the 4 because of that alone.
I think you guys are wrong about Scion. Scion is one of the most powerful commanders, yes, but like Ramos, you have to build the deck around him to get that power. This deck is a dragon tribal deck, and not a reanimator deck, which is what Scion wants. The Ur-Dragon is giving you free value at all times in this deck, while Scion doesn't do much for you if he's not swinging. Then again, it's a bit of a moot point, but just telling people "play Scion as the commander if you want to win" isn't the best piece of advice. Unless those people happen to have some of the combo pieces for him lying around to slot in. Especially in the case of someone playing a precon deck - they're likely to be a new player, who is going to find playing the deck with the Ur-dragon at the helm a lot easier than trying to win with Scion if they don't use him properly. Also, Teneb the Harvester and Intet the Dreamer are both amazing cards for this deck. Intet lets you get card advantage and cast your big spells for free while Teneb lets you get your dragons back from the graveyard (which is especially helpful if you choose to build the deck around Scion).
probably but i beg to differ, while scion doesn't give full capability, it is still better than the ur-dragon, faster to cast, can protect and buff himself and with teneb can actually return some creatures in the graveyard. sure the deck isn't a reanimator deck, but it could be a jack of all trades, scion being the knife. use him as a sponge for removals, a creature that resurrects others from graveyard, an emergency board wipe, a support that gives double strike (to all dragons), and lots of crazy stuff that would be very unpredictable to other players, in contrast to the big daddy, very expensive to cast, has no way to protect himself to removals, and is a kill on sight for most players, at least with scion they would think twice since they cant outright kill him. and even if scion dies 7 mana is cheap in comparison to 11 to ur dragon after dying once. then again its also a moot point trying to reply to a 4 year old comment.
Add the basic ramp package(skyshroud claim, farseek, rampant growth), card draw(bident of thassa, zendikar resurgent, phyrexian arena), ways to make your dragons better(always watching, xenagos, gratuitous violence, asceticism) and ways to play dragons for cheap and without putting them into the stack(quicksilver amulet, belbe's portal).
Dragon deck is my favorite. I'm surprised you didn't talk about how much of a major deal it was that characters like O-Kagachi and Taigam got cards here. They were among the most heavily requested characters for cards - O-Kagachi has been requested for over a decade.
Ramos’ ability is actually a sweet mid-game win con if you use it to cast Door to Nothingness. I saw my friend’s jaw drop when I pulled that one off haha. Dragons are the best.
Had a Card Kingdom package get misdelivered and several of the cards rose in price between the time that had been determined and when I contacted them. They applied extra credit to make up the difference.
look in tappedout for toolbox of urdragon. It's one of my Scion's deck. The first thing is cheap ramp, to cast Scion with 2 manas open, to get a haste dragon. In the next turn you pick a big double striker and lock one player out of the game. The deck goes crazy with reanimation and rcursion. It kill one player at turn 6, another on turno 7 and the last one on turn 8. When it fails in this mission, you ave a very good instant toolbox, with sunforger.
I've had this deck for a year now and slowly bought the expensive fetch and shock lands. But before that, I took out all the lands and made it a 5color basic land base. It worked way better than the stock one while I obtained the better ones.
It's pretty hard to get Ur-Dragon to work, currently I save it till I have 3-4 dragons to swing with, bring it out then attach some boots, my version runs a reanimator package , it's a fun casual deck
I created a super quick list when this card was spoiled and I think a card that deserves more mention is Heartless Summoning. For just 2 mana, all your dragons cost 3 less generic to cast (including the Eminence), and it makes your most powerful dragons ridiculously cheap. The theme of the deck was trying to discount the dragons as much as possible.
The Locust God it's not that his second ability doesn't work in Commander, it's that it's only useful against two specific decks: Relentless Rats, and Shadowborn Apostle. As long as you accept that, there's no reason you can't run one.
TheComicBookJoker Might just do that anyway. Even then she is a 6/5 with flying and haste that will only cost 5 if you use the Ur Dragon as your commander.
As the proud owner of two separate dragon EDH decks (one Jund, one 5-Color) YES. In fact I'd play all of Dragonlord Kolaghan; Karrthus, Tyrunt of Jund; Hall of the Bandit Lord; Hanweir Battlements; and Dragon Tempest in any dragon deck that can run them. Plus Temur Ascendancy of course, as they mentioned. Haste on giant, flying, firebreathing, lizards is AMAZING.
i'm pretty new to MTG and interested in getting into CMDR, which pre-built decks would you recommend for me and a friend (he's never played MTG before) to play with?
I'd say out of just what I've seen, the vampire and the cat precons out of this cycle of commander seem to be relatively easy to play or learn to play with and have fun with straight out of the box.
SSJ Excalibur Most importantly, WELCOME!!! Second, I agree with the other comments: Cats and Vampires are better for less experienced players, as they are faster than Dragons, and more direct than Wizards. As you grow as a player, you will learn which play styles work for you, and make decisions based on that, both in precons and in homebrews. Third, for your friend who has never played before, might I suggest the beginner's decks designed by Card Kingdom? They are tuned to focus on one major keyword per deck, they are fairly balanced when played against each other, and they're cheap ($6 for one, and I think $10 for one of each color). You won't get card financial value from it, but it's the best way I've seen so far of learning the game. Best of all, Card Kingdom made the lists for these decks completely public, so if you have most or all of the cards, you can put them together yourself for much cheaper.
The Preconstructed Commander Deck i began with is 2015 Ezuri Green/Blue Commander. I'd also look on the past Decks as they are cheaper. Just look at the cards ( you dont need to fully understand them) and choose which one you like the most :)
I have had a Taigam deck sleeved up with the main man himself proxied in for over two months since the initial leak. I can confirm that it is absolutely disgusting. Not with a bunch of extra turns, but with a massive amount of the better 1-2 cost cantrips now turning into Divination. I managed to draw over 25 cards for free in a single game off of this, and then killed the whole table with Psychosis Crawler. 9/10, would recommend if you want to play U/W but don't want to play control.
I watched "The Circle" monday and as soon as I saw you in that one shot I instantly was like: Oh, that's Jimmy Wong :D Always nice to spot you in movies :*
Cards that give double strike are really good in this deck too, runes of the deus (a shadowmoor aura) makes the ur-dragon into a one-shot kill if it gets through that then gives a ridiculous amount of value.
Fortunate Few is a card that plays strongly into a 5-colored deck's ability to force things to happen off-theme more easily than people expect. A Zedruu deck, people kind of expect zonky shenanigans like Fortunate Few to be the soup du jour. A Dragon deck, people expect lots of blunt trampling, casting, attacking, damaging, hitting things. But if you put something like Teferi's Protection, or Vedalken's Orrery in, basically, if you increase the ''wizardry'' and ''blue-ness'' of the deck in very unexpected directions, find cards to help you redirect or copy spells, and you're supposed to find a way to force a large board wipe down and keep something remaining. of course, there's an even simpler explanation--- if the Dragon deck simply has one card ready to play at the right time-- a mere Evacuation to save things to hand--- then lots of cards will be going to the graveyard, and you can set up your deck that you don't care as much about all your stuff dying--- load in death triggers, like the Kamigawa cycle of Dragons--- get ready to just replace all the things you lost because you kept your lands. Dragons + Ramp want to wreak so much destruction, that even though their CMCs are higher, they want to get ready to come back faster than the other decks will come back, so they don't even necessarily mind getting hit with a one-sided Wrath--- if you have those death triggers, especially, where Dragons dying just becomes good news for you, or if Scion is your Commander and dragons being dead is good enough for you. the card itself is not good in a spikey, easy way, but it encourages a very Johnny kind of playstyle to force it to become good--- and if your deck is good enough to be confident about casting this card, then you know you've put your opponents in a very tight spot. It's supposed to inspire that kind of thinking. and since it's a 5-color deck, there's nothing stopping the Dragon deck from doing whatever it wants to do.
I like palace siege, it’s either life gain or graveyard recursion. And if your running the scion you need the recursion as your chucking your dragons into the graveyard.
what happens if you target the scion with the mirror, then activate the scion and it changes to something else before mirror resolves. the mirrored scion can then activate becoming something else. pull out any 2 dragons each tURn (only need to find the mirror if you have scion as commander)
didnt even think about end of turn effects with it. but as both would try to go on stack at same time, wouldnt it be active players choice which order they resolve.... i can imagine there being an old version of the rules that would allow messing with this and being able to keep the mirror as the scion after turn ends, like it goes back to being the mirror then goes back to being the scion afterwards. but i cant imagine rules allowing that mess
I know I'm watching this year's after but yeah I ordered the 5 ikoria commander decks together right when available to preorder and then it 5 dollars from what I paid a few hours after
I was thinking the same thing since Kolagahn's bottom ability would not have an effect but threw in Temur Ascendancy instead. Still thinkin about putting Kolagahn in though.....
Let's say I want to use card kingdom but there is one problem I live out side of the US can card kingdom still ship to likes of Scandinavia Or other parts of the world?
I made a "dragons" deck in casual a few years back in collage, it was the 2nd deck I had ever made, back when M15 came out and I got my hands on what to me as a new player looked fantastic, Scuttling Doom Engine... Having only 1, I thought "How can I get this onto the field consistently?" well, my attention was shifted to the Dragon intro deck that came out with M15 and Hoarding Dragon, lets just say that with friends who got their hands on a few, I made a deck after 8 hours of building, a red/blue deck using 3 hoarding dragons, 4 generator servants, Scourge of Valkas, Utvara Hellkite, Thundermaw, my 1 Doom engine, 3 Flings and 2 Shrapnel blast, and a few less notable dragons to up my count for Valkas and Utvara, and as a side touch, 2 or 3 Ornithopters, and Ensoul Artifacts. Lets just say the deck was a blast, getting Doom engine out turn 4 with haste, then fling him next turn for lethal, usually it was too fast for answers (especially since none of us were that great) and since Doom Engine was out early his 2 power/no blocks was quite a boost! and the Ornithopter/Ensoul was a nice touch for heavy hitting early game!
O-Kagachi probably isn't that good, but I'm really excited to build a 5 color spirits deck around her. Time to dig out all the Kamigawa spirits with gorgeous art!
I've already had 3 coworkers watch a couple episodes of game knights! haha Edit: And thanks for the great editing! It must take forever to edit these things.
guys i got a question regarding a rule with the eminence mechanic... it says: Notably, if your commander is on the battlefield and its eminence ability triggers, but it’s put into the command zone before that ability resolves, that ability won’t do anything as it resolves. This is because an object that changes zones is considered a new object. that mean if an ur-dragon leaves the casting of that dragon wouldnt resolve and it wouldnt be able to go into the battlefield ? would it go to the graveyard or would it stay in hand or what ?
I will be adding: Chromatic Lantern Defence of the Hart Kaalia of the Vast Legacy Weapon And then probably a few reanimate spells to make the most of my dragons (and allow me to switch to scion smoothely between games).
James Sheffield You might also consider other creature cheats, as well. These include: Quicksilver Amulet Belbe's Portal Dragon Arch (if you move towards more multicolor dragons)
This was a Gurate episode, I would add a Skyline Despot, gives you draw makes Vengeful kami more relevant and gives more dragons for the Ur Dragon, just gotta hope no one Usurps you.
The cheapest dragons you might want in this deck are Mirror Entity, and Chameleon Colossus. ;-) A card that I also might consider getting for this deck is Heartless Summoning.
What about adding the Nicol Bolas Plainswalkers to the deck? i know at time of making the Video the new 2019 Flip Nicol Bolas wasn't out but i think he'd make a good addition to the deck as well.
you guys should really upload like 3 more game nights with each one using a diferent commander deck. I mean, everyone that wants to buy those decks want to see more of them than a single game, plus, easy video easy views low investiment to make another !
Dilson Camacho I would prefer other decks during the next gamenight, yes it was fun but the diversity is what makes the serie good. And if you want to see more of the pre con, command zone isnt the only yt channel thay does gameplays
Dilson Camacho They have said on other video's comments sections that the amount of editing required to make a typical Game Knights restricts them to about one episode a month. This actually completely jives with what Adam Blampied of WhatCulture Wrestling has said before: their videos with large amounts of graphics can take anywhere from 1-2 months. It's why their numerous series that don't release every week (Adam's Pipe Bomb, How WWE Should Have Booked, etc.) take so long to get new episodes: they are so graphics intensive, and so much time is required for the multiple series that ARE weekly, that it takes significantly longer to get the videos up to par.
they might say that, but I totally disagree (heck, makes me remember womble) I mean, what are they really adding to the game knights series ? cuts to parts where they comment on each action (that takes a while, but that is just moving, recording and editing) - blown out card image - that is pretty easy to do, some editing with blown out card images that are done for extra visual effects and some random but fancy changes with color, cut effects etc. It's a whole lot of unnecessary video editing for making it look pretty - they can reduce the overediting to speed the process if they want, but what is the biggest problem here is that - they can record 4 games in one go, in a single day, and just edit everything at once. Making one episode with diferent people -that will take a lot of extra time - making 4 episodes, at once, only recording (edit can be done post production) in one go, would be a lot easier. They could just record the games, send to editing (or just edit themselfs if they don't have support to do that) and pretty much do 4 episodes in the time it would take to make 2. What I'm saying is that if you record more at once and edit more at once, you get a lot better efficiency. Trully, the only issue is using the same people and same decks, but with something like precon 2017, I believe a lot of people want to watch more than 1 single gameplay.
you are right that having other decks is good, but just for the precons I believe more than a single game would be good. But, regarding gameplay channels, I only found 2 that have precon 2017 gameplays in them - this one and star city. Maybe we will get more in the next weeks, but as of right now I'm still looking forward to seeing more.
This might be an odd question, but I'll ask it anyway. Why would Snapcaster Mage be an auto include in this deck when it seems to not rely on soceries and and instants.
It's not super effective or really a buget idea but i went with scapeshift+crucible of worlds+guildgates and mazes end in mine. Its great to see the look on peoples faces when after beating my dragons down and breathing easy for a minuite they lose at instant speed to lands.
some artifact to help cast your big dude is worth a slot in the deck. Like Dragon Arch , Belbe Portal, or quicksilver amulet. Elvish piper is not good enough i think bcoz we will play big dude here ! board wipe is all over the corner.
Dumb question........ But why take out Mirror of the Forebears?? For a 1 Drop that becomes a copy of target creature, there are so many applications for this card, either as a blocker, heavy hitter, ramp up, Wouldn't you even be able to copy Scion and then copy his ability twice? Just seems more value in a higher CMC deck?? Can someone please tell me I'm wrong and why :) Thank you
I'm wanting to put sarkahn vol, sarkahn the unbroken, sarkahn dragon speaker, ugin, all three bolis. Cause dragon oriented planes walkers. Still figuring out what to take out for all the additions. To many dragons to choose from. (Shivan dragon is a must for all true dragon lovers)
What's wrong with palace siege? The effect that allows you to get your creatures back to your hand is pretty good considering card draw is an issue and that you're likely the target when removal get's played. Also if you decide scion is your commander and/or add sneak attack it can synergize pretty good right?
i am super excited to convert my karrthus deck to ur-dragon. i am impressed you didn't want to add him to steal all your opponents dragons, and he is a haste enabler
Should have been pompei or whatever the song is called instead of radioactive. And the walls kept tumbling down from the city that we love. Grey clouds roll over the city bringing darkness from above! Scion reanimator is always fun. Every legendary dragon and primevals glorious rebirth.
yellowsquashbanana atarka doesn't do much, but ojutai is freaking cool, add sight of the scalelords to give him vigilance and he never looses hexproof, so is nice card advantage swinging for 6 each turn at least
I made a deck with Ramos and the theme is cascade. He gets huge FAST. It's ridiculous and so damn fun. Going to make this 5 color cascade deck for MTGO because it's expensive in paper.
Honestly just saying sarkhan unbroken is a staple for this deck, and if you can use it right throw in a dragonstorm and just for the fun of it atarka world render. While yes there are alot of legendaries in here atarka world render is just an all round decent dragon card to throw out for some massive hits from the rest of your Armada of dragon badasstery
I think Opulence could be a real sleeper. If the user doesn't have a great board precence the incentive to get ahead of the curve by attacking a bigger threat could be tempting
I also think so, all of the curses seem pretty decent to me. Remember you also get the effect when another player attacks the target. The blue one might draw you lots of cards.
So one of my pet cards, "Defense of the heart" is definitely going in this deck along with "Lurking predators" for relatively cheap creature cheating into play.
There is a really fun thing you can do with the curses. You can curse yourself. You think I'm insane yet or what? Then you just play Gideon Jura +1. Each creature must attack Gideon if able and voila you just gained a shit ton of advantage. Sure it can backfire a lot but if you are playing with your friends and you want to play a less competitive game of EDH Commander, add them in or even build around them.
You guys mentioned a few kick ass Tem-ur cards. Why no Sarkhan Unbroken? He ramps, he draws, he makes dragon tokens and he unleashes all the dragons!!!! Seems like a no brainer to me, a hudge target maybe... but still.. Next, question what do you guys think of all the X spell cost X less for the ramp for this deck? Emeralds, Monuments, Bronze Tablet, Cloud Key, the blue critter that makes flying creatures cost 1 less.....etc....
Last thing, and this really bugs me as a giant flavor fail. The Catdragon is not GWX as a alt, add a color to the cat deck commander. It makes catdragons.... would have been super cool. Big mistake IMO.
Hey guys great video! My buddy is picking this deck up, and was asking me about easy upgrades, since I always build from scratch I wasn't sure on which lands to remove first, between the tri-lands and vivid cycle? In your experience which ones perform better?
Mitch Viele The Tri-Lands are better in my own experience just for the fact that the two counters from Vivids are likely to be used up faster in a 5C deck. The tri-lands have a constant 3 options and once a few are out, it runs a little smoother. Vivid lands are still fine includes though.
Mitch Viele a cycle of lands I highly recommend you looking up for this deck is the Lairs from Planeshift. The only downside is you must bounce a non-lair you control to keep it. That's not really a downside in Commander, though, because you can only run five Lairs total (one of each, and there's only five). Plus, like the Ravnica bouncelands, the bounced land can be tapped, but unlike the bouncelands, the Lairs enter untapped. Best of all, the most expensive is still only about $3. It's a great budget cycle.
Thanks for the advice! This seems along the lines of what I figured, I usually focus on mana base early, so I don't really end up ever using vivids when I build a new deck.
Mitch Viele The vivid lands are good as a budget solution for mana problems, but never if you have lands that have 3 or more color options at your disposal.
No mention of Kindred Discovery among the top 5 cards?!? My girlfriend has moderately upgraded the precon, and two years later she's killing me by sheer card draw with Kindred Discovery + Temur Ascendancy + Rhystic Study + Dragon's Hoard (not to mention The Ur Dragon itself, if she manages to cast it... which she usually doesn't need to). I haven't seen Kindred Discovery in action with other tribal decks, with lower costed creatures and tokens... that must be insane.

You missed to the listen-hrs
You can also add Amulet of Vigor to make all the tri-lands and other lands that come in tapped, enter untapped now
Cards to add in:
In terms of working with the dragon component of the deck, the two core cycles of dragons that I think are auto-adds are the Dragonlords and the Regents.
Honestly, when I read your Stubborn Denial comment I immediately went and fetched one. What a phenomenal and obvious include. Thank you for that.
I just run 5 color control with only 10 dragons.
I'm honestly very happy with this one. Replace tge mana base with 10 shocks and the 5 khans fetches, and take the curses out for chromatic lantern and other mana rocks, and that's it. It might not be optmal, but it's powerful and fun. Not to mention "budget".
88Hyo 3 out of 4 are a decent starting point for tribal decks. The wizard one is trash. Just buy Kess and build a Grixis.ext deck with her.
88Hyo Budget with 10 shocks and 5 fetches?
Hahaha you cant have dual lands/shock lands and budget in the same sentence 😂
sparktoad i know i was so confused
Brandon Viera you and me both lol I was like, basic lands. Thats as budget as it can get.
Otherwise, as always, you've done a massive work about this pre-con
Thank you it helps me a lot !!!
O-Kagachi is obviously meant for 5-color Spirits.
Unless I'm incorrect about this, but I don't feel like I am.
sarkan the unbroken fits soo perfectly in the deck and sarkans triumph
One idea could be to use Scion of the Ur dragon to fill your grave with dragons and use another effect, ideally a permanent, to reliably put them back into play. This would generally be less dependent on your mana pool depending on which effects you use and, if my ruling is correct, eliminate the problem of counter spells when the engine is online. One dragon to add could be Teneb, the Harvester because it is a dragon and has a recursion effect built in.
Good suggestions for upgrades. I'm really looking forward to this deck!
Adding:
Xenagos, God of Revels - Haste and damage doubling seems good
Hellkite Tyrant - Steal all the pretty mana rocks
Rhystic Study - Tends to slow down opponents' tempo which this deck needs
Whip of Erebos and Patriarch's Bidding - Recursion!
Heroic Intervention, Asceticism and Boros Charm - Protecting dragons as you talk about
Selvala's Stampede - Crazy value
Balefire Dragon - Boardwipe on a stick
Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - Card draw, ramp, and colour fixing
Dragon Broodmother - Baby dragon chump blockers that can eventually devour into one big dragon

Jacob Dwelle Combat doublers: Aurelia, Combat Celebrant, Savage Beating, Aggravated Assault, Hellkite Charger. Forced attack triggers: Battle Mastery, Basandra, Bullwhip, Courtly Provocateur, Goblin Diplomats, Heckling Fiends, Norritt, Rage Nimbus, Shipwreck Singer + *countless instants and sorceries...one of which has BUYBACK*
Anon Ymous sweet, thanks for the info!
Bear umbra + hellkite charger = infinite combats.. plus if you have ur dragon on the field it'd make you play infinite permanants and draw your deck. With O-Kagachi it'd make for infinite exiles too if you get attacked. Just some random shit I thought about running in my scion deck.
An Exile j
"Sarkhan Unbroken" deserves an honorable mention.
You got me smiling with "mer-er of the fer-bers," and I instantly thought of how I say Gitrog Monster as "the gertrerg mernster." :)
You get a like just for that intro guys, thanks for the laugh and content!
Loving all the content recently! Was waiting for this video, I'm planning on buying all the new decks but am most excited for the dragon one.
Intet lets you get card advantage and cast your big spells for free while Teneb lets you get your dragons back from the graveyard (which is especially helpful if you choose to build the deck around Scion).
probably but i beg to differ, while scion doesn't give full capability, it is still better than the ur-dragon, faster to cast, can protect and buff himself and with teneb can actually return some creatures in the graveyard. sure the deck isn't a reanimator deck, but it could be a jack of all trades, scion being the knife. use him as a sponge for removals, a creature that resurrects others from graveyard, an emergency board wipe, a support that gives double strike (to all dragons), and lots of crazy stuff that would be very unpredictable to other players, in contrast to the big daddy, very expensive to cast, has no way to protect himself to removals, and is a kill on sight for most players, at least with scion they would think twice since they cant outright kill him. and even if scion dies 7 mana is cheap in comparison to 11 to ur dragon after dying once.
then again its also a moot point trying to reply to a 4 year old comment.
i've been waiting the entire week for this.
I feel Like the ur-dragon is definitely going into scion decks
Dragon deck is my favorite. I'm surprised you didn't talk about how much of a major deal it was that characters like O-Kagachi and Taigam got cards here. They were among the most heavily requested characters for cards - O-Kagachi has been requested for over a decade.
Thunderbreak/Icefall regent is an auto include for me. Urza's incubator (spiked though) is also very good.
I was literally just wondering to myself when this episode was gonna come out, and then I get the notif. Pleasantly surprised :)
Ramos’ ability is actually a sweet mid-game win con if you use it to cast Door to Nothingness. I saw my friend’s jaw drop when I pulled that one off haha. Dragons are the best.
I love how every word with ''ur'' in it is spaced in the description I apreciate that
Had a Card Kingdom package get misdelivered and several of the cards rose in price between the time that had been determined and when I contacted them.
I usually wait until I have an absolute advantage... Gotta love eminence and overkill
Video content starts at 5:54 .
Would you guys say Dragonlord Kolaghan would make sense as a haste enabler in the deck, even if it's second ability doesn't work in commander?
SSJ Excalibur I'd recommend the vamps and cats lol the dragons is okay but the wizards is the most technical.
Great! thank you for the help everybody. time to force my friend into a new card game!!
I watched "The Circle" monday and as soon as I saw you in that one shot I instantly was like: Oh, that's Jimmy Wong :D
Always nice to spot you in movies :*
Cards that give double strike are really good in this deck too, runes of the deus (a shadowmoor aura) makes the ur-dragon into a one-shot kill if it gets through that then gives a ridiculous amount of value.
Love this deck, super easy to upgrade, only real big down side is if you can’t land drop consistently you’re pretty screwed. But so fun to play.

Is that axe in the background Garruk's?
LordFaron 269 yessir it is
i thougt it was Gimli's
Nope. Gimlis is double bladed and much shorter
LordFaron 269 Did you mean GAIR-uk or gar-ROOK?
TheArchmagusEternal I believe its garook according to wizards
What about throwing dragonmaster outcast in it's an early turn play that in the long game can pump out tons of tokens
what happens if you target the scion with the mirror, then activate the scion and it changes to something else before mirror resolves. the mirrored scion can then activate becoming something else. pull out any 2 dragons each tURn (only need to find the mirror if you have scion as commander)
At end of turn Scion returns to normal Mirror returns to normal. Stack triggers so mirror resolves first. Unless I'm mistaken that should work
didnt even think about end of turn effects with it. but as both would try to go on stack at same time, wouldnt it be active players choice which order they resolve....
i can imagine there being an old version of the rules that would allow messing with this and being able to keep the mirror as the scion after turn ends, like it goes back to being the mirror then goes back to being the scion afterwards. but i cant imagine rules allowing that mess
When the mirror resolves, i think it would copy the copy, or lose track of its target.
It will turn into whatever Scion is pretending to be at the time of resolution.
Is O-Kagashi maybe the Spirit Commander we all waited for?
"that's the dragon you like so you can have that one" aww so cute.
I know I'm watching this year's after but yeah I ordered the 5 ikoria commander decks together right when available to preorder and then it 5 dollars from what I paid a few hours after
For haste, could Dragonlord Kolagahn be a viable option?
I was thinking the same thing since Kolagahn's bottom ability would not have an effect but threw in Temur Ascendancy instead. Still thinkin about putting Kolagahn in though.....
just played it from the box today. Used the Scion as commander, second turn far seek, third darksteel ingot plus dragon tempest.
Let's say I want to use card kingdom but there is one problem I live out side of the US can card kingdom still ship to likes of Scandinavia Or other parts of the world?
I'm totally getting this deck.
I'm sad that the vampires deck video won't be out before friday :/ Bought the whole case, but I don't know which one to use!
I think we could make it Friday morning if you get a few friends to subscribe 🙃
I've already had 3 coworkers watch a couple episodes of game knights! haha
Edit: And thanks for the great editing! It must take forever to edit these things.
FANTAVISION works for me - Vampires coming up...
guys i got a question regarding a rule with the eminence mechanic... it says: Notably, if your commander is on the battlefield and its eminence ability triggers, but it’s put into the command zone before that ability resolves, that ability won’t do anything as it resolves. This is because an object that changes zones is considered a new object.
that mean if an ur-dragon leaves the casting of that dragon wouldnt resolve and it wouldnt be able to go into the battlefield ? would it go to the graveyard or would it stay in hand or what ?
I will be adding:
Chromatic Lantern
Defence of the Hart
Kaalia of the Vast
Legacy Weapon
And then probably a few reanimate spells to make the most of my dragons (and allow me to switch to scion smoothely between games).
James Sheffield You might also consider other creature cheats, as well. These include:
Quicksilver Amulet
Belbe's Portal
Dragon Arch (if you move towards more multicolor dragons)
I've had a copy dragons arch in my binder for years, I may give it a go. Cheers!
7:50 Meowoar! Haha! All of those Ur puns are hillarious and made me laugh so hard! I love them!
This was a Gurate episode, I would add a Skyline Despot, gives you draw makes Vengeful kami more relevant and gives more dragons for the Ur Dragon, just gotta hope no one Usurps you.
I agree, very gurate
You missed one. To the listen-URS. C'mon.
Damnit! I will never forgive myself. ...or Jimmy.
The cheapest dragons you might want in this deck are Mirror Entity, and Chameleon Colossus. ;-)
A card that I also might consider getting for this deck is Heartless Summoning.
What about adding the Nicol Bolas Plainswalkers to the deck? i know at time of making the Video the new 2019 Flip Nicol Bolas wasn't out but i think he'd make a good addition to the deck as well.
Andy and Sean from the Commandersbrew had the idea of puting the curses on yourselfe. I imagine them doing a lot of worke in a sultai-zombie shell.
you guys should really upload like 3 more game nights with each one using a diferent commander deck.
I mean, everyone that wants to buy those decks want to see more of them than a single game, plus, easy video easy views low investiment to make another !
Dilson Camacho I would prefer other decks during the next gamenight, yes it was fun but the diversity is what makes the serie good. And if you want to see more of the pre con, command zone isnt the only yt channel thay does gameplays
have u not noticed how much editing they put into game knights???
there is a reason why they don't upload them more often
Dilson Camacho They have said on other video's comments sections that the amount of editing required to make a typical Game Knights restricts them to about one episode a month. This actually completely jives with what Adam Blampied of WhatCulture Wrestling has said before: their videos with large amounts of graphics can take anywhere from 1-2 months. It's why their numerous series that don't release every week (Adam's Pipe Bomb, How WWE Should Have Booked, etc.) take so long to get new episodes: they are so graphics intensive, and so much time is required for the multiple series that ARE weekly, that it takes significantly longer to get the videos up to par.
they might say that, but I totally disagree (heck, makes me remember womble)
I mean, what are they really adding to the game knights series ? cuts to parts where they comment on each action (that takes a while, but that is just moving, recording and editing) - blown out card image - that is pretty easy to do, some editing with blown out card images that are done for extra visual effects and some random but fancy changes with color, cut effects etc.
Why are they singing radioactive- "by imagine dragons" got me again.
The most important thing to note about O-Kagachi, is the fact that it is the FIRST 5 colour spirit legendary.
Sneak attack would be pretty good with fearsome Awakening.
Can someone please tell me I'm wrong and why :)
Thank you
I'm wanting to put sarkahn vol, sarkahn the unbroken, sarkahn dragon speaker, ugin, all three bolis.
Also if you decide scion is your commander and/or add sneak attack it can synergize pretty good right?
ps in dragon card draw is not a problem but mana base can be hard so anithing which double mana is awesome
Btw with taigam you're in white you have pro-x spells with rebound easy to get in he would be great as control Voltron hybrid
3 years later! He’s still tearing my meta apart!
i am super excited to convert my karrthus deck to ur-dragon. i am impressed you didn't want to add him to steal all your opponents dragons, and he is a haste enabler
David Rogness yea and then someone clones him. Bye bye all your dragons.
most funn think i have steal my karthus 2 ramos i was laugghing so hart
Should have been pompei or whatever the song is called instead of radioactive.
And the walls kept tumbling down from the city that we love. Grey clouds roll over the city bringing darkness from above!
Scion reanimator is always fun. Every legendary dragon and primevals glorious rebirth.
I have Dragonlord Ojutai and Dragonlord Atarka already, so I suspect those will make it in.
yellowsquashbanana atarka doesn't do much, but ojutai is freaking cool, add sight of the scalelords to give him vigilance and he never looses hexproof, so is nice card advantage swinging for 6 each turn at least
My first additions:
chromatic lantern, heroic intervention, lurking predators, prismatic geoscope, traverse the outlands, dragonmaster outcast, urza's incubator
Zdzisław Jakubczyk Don't forget Coalition Relic.
Its going into 2021 and this is my go to commander deck I've invested some money to get it running fast
I know Mana ramp and things of that nature are great but what about adding a dragon arch or 2
Call to the Kindred seems like an obvious choice to add in
I made a deck with Ramos and the theme is cascade. He gets huge FAST. It's ridiculous and so damn fun. Going to make this 5 color cascade deck for MTGO because it's expensive in paper.
Id love to see an updated tribal dragon deck if anyone knows of any let me know. Like a video.
Thoughts on Karrtus, Tyrant of Jund? Sweet mirror match tech and gives haste.
Sure it can backfire a lot but if you are playing with your friends and you want to play a less competitive game of EDH Commander, add them in or even build around them.
so glad there's a commander for multicolor-matters
You guys mentioned a few kick ass Tem-ur cards. Why no Sarkhan Unbroken? He ramps, he draws, he makes dragon tokens and he unleashes all the dragons!!!! Seems like a no brainer to me, a hudge target maybe... but still.. Next, question what do you guys think of all the X spell cost X less for the ramp for this deck? Emeralds, Monuments, Bronze Tablet, Cloud Key, the blue critter that makes flying creatures cost 1 less.....etc....
another team Tem-ur i think goes in my dragon deck....
Surrak Dragonclaw
i meant S' Ur-rak... :)
Last thing, and this really bugs me as a giant flavor fail. The Catdragon is not GWX as a alt, add a color to the cat deck commander. It makes catdragons.... would have been super cool. Big mistake IMO.
I can't believe you didn't think of including:
-anger
-rafiq + burst of speed for a 1 turn kill
-pact of negation to protect your commander
Thanks I'll definitely have my buddy pick some up!
Balefire Dragon is a good include!
