Lulu + far traveler will not do much if you don't have a way to make something else leave before the end step. Sure, far traveler can blink a tapped creature, but the beginning of the end step already happened, so lulu won't trigger off of it.
Someone in my play group had an eruth deck for a while, and the whole play group hated it, including the owner. The issue was it either did a turbo lab man thing where it drilled through its whole deck and won before anyone was ready, or it did nothing because it tried to do that and ran out of mana, then the deck sat there contributing nothing to the game because they didnt topdeck draw spells
Congrats on the baby! As a new dad myself, it's true you'll never be prepared enough but never be too hard on yourself. Everyone has lot's of opinions and its okay to listen to some but the babies parents have the most info and are the most equipped for making the best decision. P.s. Cadeic is awesome, and populate effects are great in there too.
I built a Stangg Echo Warrior Enchantress deck and it’s honestly busted! So many cheap enchantments allowing you to draw cards on ETB/LTB with many strong auras that buff him up. So much fun 🙌🏻
These are the type of commanders I love so much. If I’m sitting down at the table and the table knows immediately what I’m doing I’ve already lost. It’s the main reason I can’t get into competitive card games, the Metas are too strong and too known
Crazy because I have already built the first two of these. My Esix deck is nasty but super fun to pilot. People always forget it says "a creature" not one you own. So you got a Avenger of Zendikar, now I have 8 of them, cool.
Far traveler will not trigger lulu if nothing has left the battlefield before the end step. The trigger from lulu won't see a permanent having left, so it won't try to resolve, even though you will be blinking something
Always happy to see my boi Grismold (first serious Commander) on UA-cam. At the beginning my playgroup smiled down on him and his tokens, but with the time the decks tune got better and better and jeeez ... they have massive respect now. He reached kos-status. Leave him alone and he just roflstomps the table.
i doubt it. Boros lacks of good Commanders (Feather put aside), but even the old 4 Mana Tajic would be more effective in a 4 player Commander Game. At Turn 5 my Enemys got a Inferno Titan or Massacre Wurm or a Steel Hellkite or a Ghalta or Shelob. There is no way i could keep those powerlevels with my Queen Kayla Decks. Maybe i can Kombo Win (Boring), but Beatdown is not an Option, and thats so sad because its Boros.
I feel like the mental energy one has to expend to brew/optimize these decks might explain why they aren't more popular. Also - congrats to Gaurav on the daddening! However hard it is for you (and it's going to be hard), it's probably gonna be harder on the mom. Do what you can to help her out, and then find some time to de-stress so you can be there for the family when they need you.
I've built 3 of the commanders on this list! Mahadi is still going strong. Lulu was so fun, I was sad to take it apart, but I needed the counters support for a different deck and she just didn't make the cut for that one. Jhoira and Stangg are pet decks of someone at my LGS, and one of my best friends has a REALLY powerful Eruth (Renfield) deck that is wild to see hit the table every game cause we never know what it's going to do next. I would love to revisit Lulu at some point.
Congrats Gaurav! One of the best, and most disgusting, baby items you will want is a Nosefrida nasal respirator. Ask any parent who has utilized one . . . Magical
I absolutely love my Grismold deck! Engineered Plague, Illness in the Ranks, Kaervek, the Spiteful, Night of Souls' Betrayal, Plague Engineer, Virulent Plague
You really forgot two of Grothama's best friends: Psychosis Crawler and Vigor, how could you! Love to see the wurm get a bit of well deserved spotlight. My playgroup loves the Grothama deck I'm running, always a good time and often surviving with just 1 or 2 Lifepoints remaining.
I feel like this is a good idea for a podcast but not executed in the right way. I was interested in hearing you guys talk about why these specific cards didn't catch on, and that was touched on here and there but most of it is just discussing deck ideas in the usual way we do when new cards are announced. We've already heard these commanders get this treatment, it's redundant to do it again. Would have liked to hear more insight into ideas why players shy away from some strategies and that sort of thing.
Two cards I find insane and play in my Stangg deck that weren't mentioned are Nylea's Colossus and Pattern of Rebirth. All the auras ETBing make Stangg giant when he attacks. Pattern of Rebirth gets me the best creature in my deck straight onto the battlefield every end step. Edit: The deck is really fun to play because of these weird interactions and or jank cards and combos that just work.
do you find yourself losing a lot the moment your opponent takes stangg away? I kinda want to make a Stangg deck but im scared if he always gets removed that the deck will be utterly useless
@@zodi4991 That is true, but the deck tends to make a lot of mana and it's and to rebuild quickly. Because you draw a ton of cards, getting new auras is easy. If u want to be more cautious, using equipment means you aren't even scared of Stangg dying. You can even have haste enablers if you don't want to waste a turn of attacking.
Really like the idea of the background commanders and been working on making a modular deck that goes monocolor to color pairs for each color background. Depending on the background you can really change how a deck is played.
The first time I played Stangg (the last two g's stand for 'Good Game) and he did his thing, one of the other players picked him his card in disbelief and said 'Why don't more people know about this guy?' He is in my top five decks, so much fun, so much value - he's amazing. Chuck in Kediss for that '3 for 1' special! It's all about ETB and LTB effects with auras. Highly recommend!
Honestly looking on EDHrec, i was surprised that Odric Master Tactician doesn't even have 500 decks, I really like him as the commander of my white weenies deck
I have a Odric, Master Tactician soldier tribal that is a lot of fun to play. It's surprised a few people who still don't expect a white deck to compete.
I am really looking forward to more instalments of this kind. I'm really looking to build more "out there" and underrated commanders with funky synergies. Can't wait to see the next batch!
Just because he was mentioned during the grismold segment... I still love my Kresh deck, put no real thought into it, just rifled through my cards grabbing any old crap that fit the colours and it still absolutely slaps
Just had my baby girl last tuesday and have a 19mo old boy. Fatherhood is hands down the best thing ive ever had going, youre going to love it! Protip: have more than 25 bibs!
I've been having a blast with Ayesha Tanaka, Armorer. It's such a fun and unique voltron deck that can snowball super hard with something like Hammer of Nazan and Scroll Rack
I've got a Stangg deck built for enchantments. Seen another in the wilds built for equipments. My most unique however is a modular artifacts deck under Blaster, Combat DJ. Haven't seen or heard anyone else with it. People do enjoy seeing it do it's thing.
Esix is one of my favorites, when I saw the Strixhaven decks I was immediately pulled toward the Adrix and Nev deck, but Esix is so much more unique and interesting than a simple token doubler. This is one of the few commanders that can make Biovisionary work in commander.
Biovisionary works best if you don't telegraph him. People tend to not expect him, so the best strategy is to build on that surprise effect. I have a lot of fun with im in a deck that relies mostly on creative, reactive defense (think Snakeform, or Polymorphist's Jest :) ) until I have filtered my deck for sufficient copy effects to do his thing in a single turn.
@@VolkbrechtI had a good time when I cast Biovisionary, once it resolved, my opponent responded with an effect to make me sac 3 creatures, I responded by activating my Mosswort Bridge with Ezuri's Predation under it, soon, there were 23 Biovisionary's on board. It was glorious, and probably not something that'll repeat any time soon.
10/10 episode. Fav part was I knocked over a cup which knocked over a pan and mase a giant noise right next to phone and they loudly said OKAYYYY and took a second to shuffle papers and recoup from a nervous pause
I built Queen Kayla as a combo deck with Zirda, Basalt Monolith, Retrofitter Foundry, Altar of Dementia, Dualcaster mage, Sevinne's reclamation..etc I don't put a lot of tutors in it so it's purposefully tuned slower. It's always a nice surprise to wheel into a combo piece. People at the LGS seem to enjoy seeing the deck.
Silly one for Stang... Bloodforged Battle-axe... Because it makes token copies of itself when the equipped creature deals damage... And while the og clones for stang's twin are gone in the end step, the clones they make of themselves stick around...
I just made an Alora, Merry Thief deck and gave her Popular Entertainer. I basically use “Threaten” effects to take my opponents creature and then attack with them making them unblockable with Alora. Then they either go back to their hands OR I shave sac outlets OR have ways to blink them back under my control. So much fun!
My Zurzoth deck is my favorite deck, so glad to see him mentioned here. I even tuned DOWN the deck a little to add a little more chaos and spice. Loot Dispute, Court of Ire, Brimstone Vandal - they all add a bit of chaos and diverse gameplay to the mix. Great Commander. Very consistent despite the randomness. Then again, “At Random” are my two favorite words in Commander.
Grismold is one of my favorite decks that I have. A really fun side effect of him is that I can just damage people with the tokens I make because nobody wants to block them and make grismold bigger. Also it is just unnecessary that he just has natural trample...
Virulent refers to the rate at which the plague spreads. The more virulent a plague is, the quicker it can spread. Usually this means the plague has a lot of ways to spread it airborne and through touch
You can also make a version of what Esix wants to do with Adrix and Nev, Twincasters for 2 cheaper and it has Ward 2 with no restrictions on when you can double.
@@andersnielsen3163 my Tombstone has history: it belonged to a friend that does not collect mtg anymore. We played in high school over 20 years ago, in the school courtyard. No sleeves. On the ground. You can imagine the condition of that card, very well played :) But when I assembled Wilhelt I wanted that copy so bad, so I bought it from my friend.
I play Stangg, and there are some key adds that you didn't mention: Ancestral Mask/Helm of the Gods/Nettlecyst are gross due to the power they put on board, Alpha Authority makes it very hard to deal with Stangg (hexproof + only 1 blocker), and you can do stupid things with Moroug, Fury of Akoum to get extra combat steps, as you get another Stangg twin for the 2nd attack (Stangg + twin for the first attack, then Stangg + 2 twins for the 2nd). Kediss is also an MVP of the list, as you can turn killing one opponent into killing the table VERY easily.
Love that you talked about Grismold! Was my second commander deck, however had to dismantle it when I started playing with higher power tables, voltron just does not really do it despite the fact the Grismold can grow ultra fast. Btw, a virulent plague refers to a plague caused by a virus (a locust plague would be a non-viral example type of plague)
I have an Esix deck and I've had some AMAZING moments with ezuris predation. Making 15 copies of a random creature that draws cards, ending up with 8 eldrazi dudes, and more. Love that card
The simple answer is there is just so many commanders and only so many archetypes to play so people tend to build around the most easy to use of that archetype.. that’s why I like to try and build jank lol
5:00 I LOOOOVE my Esix Fractal Bloom deck, but I've never put my decklist online, and I imagine alot of people just upgraded the strixhaven deck, so that explains why there's not many noted decks for it. I've also had an Eruth commander. I LOVED that Eruth was a storm commander that required you to do your storm specifically on your turn and you don't get to keep any of it. It's a blue deck that frankly can't run any normal counter spells.
I have a Stangg deck and it's pretty nifty. AFAIK, it's the only Voltron commander that can steadily attack 2 players at once. Sadly, once your opponents get the gist of how he works, he'll die pretty quickly. You'll need to put hexproof/indestructible on him (I'd say at least 2-3 sources of each on your deck), as also Flight/Trample/Unblockable to let him deal damage; the former is a bit harder to come by, but green is loaded on Trample auras and unblockable is also well-served. Now, one effect that is quite interesting is artifact/permanent sacrifice. Since Stangg Twin's tokens are sacrificed only at the next end step, they have synergy with stuff like Krark-Klan Ironworks, Kuldotha Forgemaster, Metalwork Colossus, Breya's Apprentice, Arcbound Ravager, Scion of Opulence, Goblin Welder, Goblin Engineer, Gut True Soul Zealot, Pia Naalar, Blood Aspirant, Havoc Jester, Magmaw, Bloodbriar, furnace Celebration. Treasure-creating stuff is also great. He also goes really well with Scytheclaw, Dragonspark Reactor, Fruit of the First Tree, green Umbras, Grafted Exoskeleton, Mage Slayer, Scarab of the Unseen, But the best card for him is Sundial of the Infinite, IMHO.
I know that some of these videos get lost in the sands of time or lose their relevance BUT I enjoy the command zone podcast no matter if it’s old or non relevant information, I do not care!!!!! I love the older game knights I love the new stuff you guys do I love the wacky podcast AND the end steps to them! I LOVE THE TEAM!!!!! Without them the show wouldn’t be as great as it is today! Thank you for an amazing episode everyone!!!!
I run 4 of these: Jhoira- I actually don’t run proliferate, I found pemin’s aura and other untap effects more than enough. I actually run it as giant cmc and spellslinging tribal. I once almost killed a player with a combustible gear hulk for a whopping 22 damage! (Blasphemous act + others). Mahadi is insanely strong, love him. Eruth is my favourite possible archetypes- Izzet cast from exile. Alt art foil is gorgeous. Problem with her is the lack of control you get. I love her but I’m waiting for a proper Izzet cast from exile commander. My eyes are on the DND bard when it sees a universe within print for now. Lost and the damned is neat and made it in, but also consider: Cryptic pursuit! And lulu is great, honestly there’s no bad way to play her. I personally do Boros for sacrifice tribal shenanigans. All the best!
Ghiora is actually very powerful. I built mine for a cEDH tournament recently and she definitely can hang. I went the stax route and locked out two Blue Farm players in my third round match with a Back to Basics.
I ran Descent into Avernus for some buddies of mine and Lulu stuck with all of us because of just how wholesome she was with how I ran her. My players made protecting her priority number 1 in the whole campaign, so when she was revealed for this set I can honestly say we all lost out minds over it XD.
I used my Esix deck that only had a $60 precon upgrade. As soon as they realized the game plan, I was instantly targeted, but through ramping and protecting Esix, they didn't have an answer. It basically let me combine the best of my opponents' creatures, and they couldn't stop it.
Dad tip: Do your best not to yell. I really limit how often i raise my voice. That way they know its an emergency or something like that if I yell. Cause honestly, you have to raise your voice every now and then, but i have found it best to do it as little as possible. Also, rough housing is so much fun.
Another idea for Esix: Esix and a token doubler in play (say Paralllel Lives). Then you cast Astral Dragon. Astral Dragon's tokens become two more Astral Dragons thanks to Esix. Because of Parallel Lives you get four Astral Dragons. Then you have four Astral Dragon etbs to resolve. All of them target Parallel Lives. The first Astral Dragon token will get you 4 Parallel Lives (which are also 3/3 flying dragons). So you have 5 Parallel Lives. The next one gets resolved and produces another 64 Parallel Lives, giving you 69 in total. The next one is where it gets crazy. Now we are in the billions. Then comes the last one. For all intents and purposes its tantamount to infinity.
What commanders do you think are underplayed? Do you have any of the decks we talked about today? Why do you love them?
Busybody and Cloakwood Hermit, I made a green white re animator so big green and white mix with tokens too. I made a discard theme to it, that gets tokens or other value and those big creatures I discard will come back later for less.

I love to see Lulu. I built Lulu using only Baldur's gate cards and she absolutely sings. Myriad and Goad themes. So fun.
I have a Lulu in my Jan Jansen "Baldurs Gate Cards Only" deck and it's been pretty sweet when I've gotten to use it.
Yes, but what did she do before she became of Hollyphant?
@@irreleverent she made sandwiches.
We love all episodes, but we especially love the episodes that aren't set reviews or precon upgrades 🎉🎉
I really hope to see an Extra Turns featuring the two decks you picked plus two other ones that were also featured on your list!
Eruth seems like such a genuinely fun take on a storm commander, with a genuine downside too to make things interesting. Love it!
I also built that! It's allot of fun!
I'm trying to build esix right now. If you happen to have a list it would be cool to see!
Far traveler will not trigger lulu if nothing has left the battlefield before the end step. The trigger from lulu won't see a permanent having left, so it won't try to resolve, even though you will be blinking something
Indeed this is a real nonbo
Always happy to see my boi Grismold (first serious Commander) on UA-cam.
At the beginning my playgroup smiled down on him and his tokens, but with the time the decks tune got better and better and jeeez ... they have massive respect now. He reached kos-status.
Leave him alone and he just roflstomps the table.
Two things:
1) stangg extra combats. Twins, triplets, quadruplets, oh my!
2) Mana curves had quite the Cadric Planeswalker deck
I have a Queen Kayla Bin-Kroog and it took awhile, but it really pops off now!
Drop a list!
Super good advice. I'll do my best, thank you!
@@doublegxg You’re going to be great.
For Lulu, a really good card to include is False Floor. Creatures enter tapped. All creatures. So as long as you have triggered Revolt, Lulu pops off.
Yes!!! Finally people see the massive potential in Mahadi. Such a good commander!
He's in my Garth one eye deck, solid mana booster
Ask any parent who has utilized one . . . Magical
Mirkwood bats would work well in a Grismold deck
I absolutely love my Grismold deck!
Engineered Plague, Illness in the Ranks, Kaervek, the Spiteful, Night of Souls' Betrayal, Plague Engineer, Virulent Plague
Never seen Grismold before. Now I really want to make that deck.
That Kayla deck just got a new sweet piece when duskmourne comes out.
1:25:15 Far Traveler will not trigger Lulu as mentioned, as the end step will already have begun.
Edit:
The deck is really fun to play because of these weird interactions and or jank cards and combos that just work.
do you find yourself losing a lot the moment your opponent takes stangg away? I kinda want to make a Stangg deck but im scared if he always gets removed that the deck will be utterly useless
@@zodi4991 That is true, but the deck tends to make a lot of mana and it's and to rebuild quickly. Because you draw a ton of cards, getting new auras is easy.
If u want to be more cautious, using equipment means you aren't even scared of Stangg dying. You can even have haste enablers if you don't want to waste a turn of attacking.
@@amigraber6062 is it a good idea to have a mix of some.equipments to do that and auras?
My Grismold deck is one of my favorites! and Mahadi is high on my list but just keeps getting included in other decks instead.
On Jhoira you can use feed from reel to help untap her a lot. I am making a Karn Legacy reforged deck with eldrazi's and microsyth lattice.
Vandalblast is fun!
Congrats Gaurav ! Pick mono blue for the kid. Jimmy's one is working on mono red already...
Hahaha that's good advice, thank you!
Love my Queen Kayla deck and Rachel is right, Surly Badgersaur is amazing in the deck and gets a ton of value.
I've been very tempted to build Kayla, but I already have four other boros decks....
I just built a Mahadi deck a couple of weeks ago. I'm happy to see he made this video!
Grismold is my all time favorite deck. So many ways to play him.
Just had my baby girl last tuesday and have a 19mo old boy. Fatherhood is hands down the best thing ive ever had going, youre going to love it! Protip: have more than 25 bibs!
My favorite ramp/draw spell in esix is risen reef. Turns any of your token makers out into a massive draw and ramp package.
I've been having a blast with Ayesha Tanaka, Armorer. It's such a fun and unique voltron deck that can snowball super hard with something like Hammer of Nazan and Scroll Rack
I have an Esix deck and its absolutely nuts to play. Usually ends up being a me vs the table scenario. Very powerful.
The thing with Eruth is that you run out of cards in yout hand easily and when you have a lot of cards exiled you just dont have the mana
I love Lulu, I pair her with Master Chef and run her as a flicker/ +1/+1 counter deck with elephant tribal, it's a fun deck
I just built a Stangg deck cuz of you guys xD shoutout to Rachel's partner!!
Honorable mention for stang, Colosiffication. +20/+20 for him and the token, with trample as well this can be a game ender
Hama Pashar Blink is one of the most fun decks I've played recently. Def would recommend.
I was a nanny for 8 years. Sign language is amazing for early development and can help with nonverbal communication before speech is developed.
Virulent refers to the rate at which the plague spreads. The more virulent a plague is, the quicker it can spread. Usually this means the plague has a lot of ways to spread it airborne and through touch
The black morph spell is amazing in grismold as well, you can instant speed give him indestructible
I've been playing Esix and I've only Avenger'd into a bunch of Avengers once.
It. Was. Awesome.
You can also make a version of what Esix wants to do with Adrix and Nev, Twincasters for 2 cheaper and it has Ward 2 with no restrictions on when you can double.
1:34:00 put in a token doubler or 2
Include some mutate namely gemrazer, sawtusk demolisher, migratory greathorn and glowstone recluse.
I didn't give two craps about Esix when it came out but man, you really sold it to me with this video!
I have an Eruth deck and I've never seen another one. It's one of my best decks!
FYI Tombstone Stairwell gives everyone tokens at the same time in EACH upkeep. Its super bonkers and very well underrated
One of my favorite cards in my Wilhelt deck. Every time the Tombspawn are sacrificed, I get that many Zombies with decayed.
@@ogrokun yup, have the same combo. love that card!
Rachel, ask Chase to show you their Cadric superfriends deck list. Its a killer deck
I'll go check it out!
@@commandcast edhijinks ep#67
Eruth has a problem, you must reveal cards exiled with her
Extra Turns video with all commanders from this list please!!!!
Got floored by seeing two of my favorites on the thumb nail
He also goes really well with Scytheclaw, Dragonspark Reactor, Fruit of the First Tree, green Umbras, Grafted Exoskeleton, Mage Slayer, Scarab of the Unseen,
But the best card for him is Sundial of the Infinite, IMHO.
Youve convinced me. Im building a Lulu conke deck
I might build a Kayla Bin-Kroog deck. I never realized how many cool things you can do with it.
Esix is one of my favorite decks and it almost always goes off
I run 4 of these:
Jhoira- I actually don’t run proliferate, I found pemin’s aura and other untap effects more than enough.
My Girl Eruth!!! I've only met one other person running her as a commander and both of us considered her decks our strongest.
Ghiora is actually very powerful. I built mine for a cEDH tournament recently and she definitely can hang. I went the stax route and locked out two Blue Farm players in my third round match with a Back to Basics.
Stangg Gangg Represent!
Library of Leng is a must-include in the Queen Kayla bin-Kroog deck.
Don’t know where you found Rachel but thank goodness ❤ what a golden addition to the GK fam. 🎉
