    It's such a simple concept that if you are overweight you can burn the fat on your body for nutrition, yet most people don't know this because we are never told this in the keto and carnivore world. In fact, we are often told the opposite. We are also often told that we can drink cream and that it doesn't raise insulin and doesn't count toward putting fat on. And we are pretty-much always told that OMAD is best. For years, I've been trying to eat as much fat as possible, it seems, because I that's what the Gurus say will get the weight off. It's not even logical, but that's all I've ever heard until discovering you two. Also, I learned about Dr. Nadir Ali from you, who also believes as you do. I think Dr. Pradip Jamnadas does, as well. Sure, there are some others who talk about burning the fat on your body, but it's always in the context of fasting or even building muscle to do it. It's never in the context of eating. Had I known about this years ago, I would have eaten a whole lot more filet mignons, as I love them. Also, a lot more shrimp and scallops and meats with little fat. So many are going down the wrong path with weight loss because they don't know this very simple concept. Such a shame. Thank you for continuing to educate people. And thanks for the organic chicken tip, I had forgotten about all the toxins in regular chicken.

    I keep going weight on carnivore and everyone says your healing and building muscle. I told them I’m fifty and 290 lbs but I spent my younger life power lifting and now I just do a few thing a week to keep on muscle..so…I doubt I’m all of a sudden adding muscle. I started this high protein today..it’s gonna be hard to only eat about 800 calories if I figured this math out right.

    I couldn't catabolize protein without fat. I believe I have several genetic abnormalities. However, if I eat beef each day, it provides enough fat that I can break down additional protein sources. This problem with catabolizing protein that started at puberty was the reason I was mostly vegetarian for 40 years and plant based for 3 years. It made me sick and deficient in so many minerals and vitamins. Here's to meat 🥂

    Hi Maria and Craig, I am newly pregnant (a bit over 4 weeks) and I have been scouring the internet for pregnancy macros. I keep running into maintenance macros advice so far. I have been doing PSMF 2-3x since last September 2022. I am used to doing regular keto macros (1100-1200 calories) and PSMF days (700-800 calories). I am finally at a normal BMI of 25 (I think) and 29% body fat (I used to be 45% BF). This is my 7th baby, but all my pregnancies besides my 6th were either vegan (yeah, bad idea) or SAD (I wrestled with Gestational Diabetes in every pregnancy). I did great for my 6th pregnancy, but was still overweight, due to being overweight to begin with. So now, I am very concerned with gaining too much weight, but understand that I cannot and should not have a calorie deficit. I just don't want to overeat fat or carbs. I always exceed my protein goals everyday, but I am careful with fat and definitely very strict with carbs (20g total or less). Do you guys recommend eating at maintenance/body composition macros for pregnancy? It makes sense to me, but just wanted to run it by you guys to see if you had any other tips or ideas about this. Thank you in advance!!

    I heard Peter Attia say that there is a sweet spot of eating protein. If i remember correctly, he said it's somewhere between 30 and 50 g per meal. He said it depends on the person but going too low or too high, the protein would either not be enough or it would be too much and get wasted. I don't believe it. Vegetarians get way less protein per meal, and I believe their bodies are using it. Why would the body not know to use small amounts?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  11 місяців тому

      It's not that your body won't use it, but to stimulate protein synthesis shooting for about 30-40g per meal is ideal :)

    Hi Maria and Craig. I love drinking tea infusions. it's a nice break from just water and I've always thought of it as healthy. My infusions usually consist of a mix of 3-5 medicinal herbs, such as mullein, nettle, motherwort, raspberry leaf...also sometimes camomile, calendula flowers. What are your thought on this, including, does it break a fast and is it considered high in oxalates? I've just been through the ringer this past year. Breast Cancer, Mastectomy, Macular hole repair, and a pulmonary embolism in my lung. I am her2 positive. I am tired of being sick. Am i fooling myself thinking these medicinal herbs are healthy for me?

Now hearing I need to quit coffee. I’m weighing everyday and now getting very ‘aware’ of everything, almost nervous about what I’m eating. I had my first binge in 7 years last night. Scared I’m going to go back into ED behaviour. What should I do?

    • @jdmosaics
      @jdmosaics Рік тому +2

      I am sure Maria would say don’t weigh yourself everyday… it is not good for your mental health to obsess over what the scales say. Once a week at the same time should be enough, if you feel the need to. Your body will fluctuate every day with water content so every day it doesn’t give a correct stable reading anyway. Try and eat your protein goal and cut down the fats and carbs by using Maria’s calculator. As she says the amount of Protein is your main GOAL .. (you can go over it )…If you have fat to lose your fat, carb and cals are the numbers you need to stick to.
      I found if my Protein was kept up I don’t get hungry at all. You can do this…..binge eating happens when your body is calling out for satiety, and you are starving it instead…Satiety comes from having the right amount of protein…Take care and be kind to yourself ..❤

    Hey guys; trying to help my mum she’s been in ketosis now and her blood sugar and insulin is healing so much. She has lost 120pounds in 10 months being in heavy ketosis eating OMAD but was under eating protein ALOT and having 9 TBs of tallow per day. She is back up to 2 meals per day now and feeling better but weight has stalled. We have increased her protein (but how much is too much?) and downed her fat to 2-3 TBs per meal. She was heavy ketosis above a 2 reading in the blood and now 0.3.
    Goal weight still has about 66 pounds to go as her weight is 212 pounds now.
    Any tips or your recomendations would be super helpful!!
    Question: how much protein; fat ratio (macros) would you have her on?
    Can you explain a little bit more about about ketosis and protein because I’ve been taught that eating protein (too much) kicks you out of ketosis so most carnivores aren’t in ketosis but are running on glucose? Should we be aiming for 0.5-1 ketone readings? If you can kindly explain a bit more it would be super helpful
    Thanks so much Maria & Craig ❤

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  Рік тому

      That is a complete misconception. Protein does NOT turn into chocolate cake once consumed. Your body has processes to use all of the protein consumed: examine.com/nutrition/how-much-protein-can-you-eat-in-one-sitting/
      There is no evidence that suggests higher ketone readings yield better weight loss. It is more important to get your macros right for consistent results: ua-cam.com/video/FGuw4axhM0c/v-deo.html
      We do not do ratios. There is no good way to quantify that. We base macros off your age, height, weight, body fat % and goals. You can do that free here (please read the notes at the top of the calculator first): mariamindbodyhealth.com/calculator/

I’m concerned if I follow 1210 calories for too long, it will slow my metabolic rate. Would you recommend throwing in some higher calorie days? I usually eat 1500-1800 calories. I do not have a ton to f body fat to lose mainly just a little in my midsection.
    Thanks so much!🙏🏽

    Why do you not like whey protein for weight loss?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  Рік тому +1

      Because whey is dairy which is inflammatory and bad for weight loss. Whey protein is also too quickly absorbed into the blood stream so it causes significant spikes in your blood glucose driving hunger and cravings.

    I am 650 lbs how many PSMF days van i do and can I do any extended fasts for autophagy?

    • @MariaEmmerich
      @MariaEmmerich  Рік тому +1

      We don't recommend extended fasts outside of medical conditions like some cancers, etc. But, with that much weight to lose off the body you can safely do 3-4+ PSMF days per week to get your fat loss moving quicker. I suggest our Platinum membership so we can help support you through your journey. We can also help with macros, meal plans, LIVE weekly meetings for support and more: keto-adapted.com/subscriptions/
