- This video is part 1 of a small series on developing a motif in Watercolor painting. In this series I demonstrate how we can develop sketches in watercolor to bring up possibilities. These “Possibilities “ lead to several benefits.
1 - greater understanding of the subject
2 - creative possibilities un imagined at the start
3 - the ability to perform the subject with spontaneity
In the final video we develop a larger image taking from the studies

A great subject right outside your door!
Drawing the tonal study and color version at the same time may be more secure to ensure the motif of the painting. Is this what you mean?
It does not have to be simultaneous - sometimes working with a single color lets you understand your subject more deeply - color then becomes easier
