It says right in the DVD (on both DVDs, actually) 'this DVD will not teach you how to scream, it will teach you how to use the scream you already have without injuring your vocal chords and to increase your vocal stamina and live gigging ability'. However 90% of the kids who just want a free pass looked right past that and said 'oh you taught all these great bands to scream! I want mine! gimme gimme gimme!'
En scream aim fire se ve bastante lo de ir agrandando la boca en el grito q pega cuando dice "scream aim fire" lo va haciendo cada vez mas agudo abriendo las comisuras
I love big face little face, and yes, it's everyone's favorite, that and the numbers are my favorites. the K/G exersize sounds sort of like Kaga, which means "To Shit" in spanish,
Melissa Cross has been around way before the DVDs were out. If you weren't a pro you wouldn't know she was a vocal coach but she has actually over 20 years of professional coaching which also explains her classical training methods, scales, etc. If you notice, her training is just like classical training, only it's for screams instead of harmonics. It will actually also make your harmonics stronger.
Hahaha this is really fun its like when I was doing the big face little face excercise I felt like an infant playing peekaboo with Melissa Cross anyone else get that?? haha love u Melissa
They work by the way. They are really good for opening up all the air ways and when combined with her resonating warm ups they make your voice really shine through!
@acdcx512 She's not a metal artist, she teaches you how to scream effectively and amplify your screams without destroying your vocal cords. She's mentored tons of mainstream artists. Don't make her personal sound as a deal breaker to checking out her warmups
Second inlet on both DVDs: This DVD does not actually teach you how to scream. However once you develop even a marginal scream, the exercises, warmups and ideas expressed in this DVD are VERY, VERY legitimate, with roots in classical music training/vocal coaching. So basically, lock yourself in a room until you can scream without hurting your throat, find where your diaphragm, windpipe, throat, and lungs are, where your center of breath is - Then come back and watch these.
@Unknown unknown Neither Chris Feign, or Corey Taylor have worked with her. (The vocalists behind Slipknot) Randy Blythe of Lamb of God on the other hand has.
Have you ever seen the entire dvd? She goes through a million warmups, then she shows vids of other people screaming. The closest thing to screaming she goes through is in the Heat and Fire chapter, where the Fire resembles a vocal fry.
@TheRandomnessofAandP Yea. ive got their Poison Live DVD and the intro to this vid is Scream Aim Fire, which I can almost play, and since i know the words to the song by heart, i can focus on playing the guitar and let the words just come out on their own. Thats how i do alot of the songs i play.
It's actually more helpful to people who have experience gigging, if you actually do the exercises. Being a guy who screams, but also a guy who actually has seen and participated in several classical training sessions for harmonic/melodic vocals, I can tell you that if you've ever seen a serious harmonic/melodic vocal coaching DVD or been part of a vocals class, that 90% of this is the same stuff they teach you there, with slightly different methods for creating noise
Let's say I'm classified under the "Contralto" category, but cannot make the highest notes on the warmup cd, and also want to improve my lows. Anybody know if it's a bad idea to use the "bass" category instead ?
so do I get her first dvd or her second dvd if I want to learn how to scream like Mike Hranica from The Devil Wears Prada and Austin Carlile from Of Mice & Men?
Melissa Cross develops specific vocal warm ups for select singers. This one is for the BFMV singer. They're mainly to sing and scream your lungs out and not screw up your throat (allowing you to do your screaming and singing for longer) Was that what you were asking?
ahh i seeeeee.. anywho, ive bought the 2 dvd's that melissa did, and i can do all the breathing things and the excercises, but i dont understand where to make the scream from, i can push from my diagphram but, people say you should scream for your chest =S do they mean literally or metaphorically?? how do u scream in your chest? i dont get it =( any tips anybody?/ x
this is awesome. i've been using it it's "the shit". i love this lady she is too cool. if she was here in L.A. i just mite pay fer some lessons. even still just this alone is a huge help.
I really want to know if there is a way to be able to scream well, and also be able to sing, especially later in life, will screaming, even this kind of screaming, destroy your voice eventually? or is there a way to be able to do both? every singer that screams in their songs normally ends up eventually losing their voice, is there a way to prevent that?
Hey Mr. Blunt...What you are referring to is not Randy's warmup, but what Machine had him do for a certain part during the recording of Sacrament. He wanted a breathy straining vocal and the best way to get that was to make him out of breath and tired by running around the perimeter of the studio, then back in directly to the mic and track that part. FYI Randy is one of Melissa's "original" clients. He will also tell you that her training works and he uses it. PS. Dutchies are better.
That...was Randy Blyhte...*facepalm* Maybe the Video poster referred to the fact that this is the warm-ups that Matt uses? Because Blythe did mention 'playing guitar and vocals at the same time...'.
Eddie Hermida from Suicide Silence took the Hee Hee part way too seriously
HAHAHA !!

Well, I have to say that I personally have done some training with her and she is AMAZING!! Performances haven't been the same since! Thanks Melissa!
if only there was a live webcam for everyone doing all these !
Really helpful exercise. I've noticed the changes with my vocal pitch and quality.
When Randy Blythe of Lamb of God says this technique works, THE TECHNIQUE FUCKING WORKS!!! Im trying this out like ASAP.

I've been screaming improperly on and off for a few years and I want to get better.
I really can tell the honest talent and professionalism with all her warm ups, . Like 2 I’ve seen before!
I lie 1
Please I hope I’m completely anonymous besides my replies!!
I was skeptical, but this definitely helps more than you think I've been an extreme vocalist for over 8 years.
it is all a vocal warmup including facial muscles, it really helps.
En scream aim fire se ve bastante lo de ir agrandando la boca en el grito q pega cuando dice "scream aim fire" lo va haciendo cada vez mas agudo abriendo las comisuras
lol your warm ups are rly fun to do! and I love the music that goes along with them! It makes you wna do more!
2:04 Her movements like a kittie :3
she may be insane, but she is a fucking genius!! i owe allot of what i can do to this lady!!
These are great!
I love big face little face, and yes, it's everyone's favorite, that and the numbers are my favorites.
the K/G exersize sounds sort of like Kaga, which means "To Shit" in spanish,
*Skips straight to **1:00*

I love doing gee yaws. This woman has helped me sooooo much!

Melissa Cross is fucking awesome! This woman is the reason half of the best vocalists today can scream as well as they can!
@godsvayne read the description - they're warm-ups that Matt Tuck uses, with a guest appearence of Randy Blythe in the video ¬_¬
1:46-47 should be called the baby
Hahaha this is really fun its like when I was doing the big face little face excercise I felt like an infant playing peekaboo with Melissa Cross anyone else get that?? haha love u Melissa
I don't see Matt Tuck but I reconize Randy in the video...
These are Matt Tucks warm ups.
ohhh okayyyy... thanks for the head up, hehehe
They work by the way. They are really good for opening up all the air ways and when combined with her resonating warm ups they make your voice really shine through!
but do you use them for screaming or singing?
screaming

@Amorphon actually that excercise is extremely helpful for streching the facial tissue and prepping it to growl in my case
WOOO RANDY BLYTHE. big love to him.
Lol! I just can't imagine Matt doing this!!!

lovin it...
I started training with Steve Whiteman from KIX, but when we make it really big,I'll have to look into whether she does one-on-one sessions!
@TheRandomnessofAandP Yea. ive got their Poison Live DVD and the intro to this vid is Scream Aim Fire, which I can almost play, and since i know the words to the song by heart, i can focus on playing the guitar and let the words just come out on their own. Thats how i do alot of the songs i play.
hey im thinkin about purchasing these dvds...does anybody recommend them cuz im very interested? please reply thanks

does any one know were i can get like a dvd of this stuff or something
She is the best but she didn't learn them. She created them! I think she is phenomenal
@CloudACVII thanks, do you think Zen of Screaming can bring any audible results?
Melissa Cross develops specific vocal warm ups for select singers. This one is for the BFMV singer.
They're mainly to sing and scream your lungs out and not screw up your throat (allowing you to do your screaming and singing for longer)
Was that what you were asking?
@thestudioNJ Hey, could you inform of the difference between fry, false and death? Just curious mate
Dvd is really helpful, it is so awesome, but why isn't there any goddamn subtitles?
i actually tried some of the exercizes it was pretty fun haha

I nearly peed myself laughing when she started the "big face, little face" XD
what do you do if you can't roll your tongue like that? i've never been able to do it, but i can still scream fine
@6669jarvis what gave it away, the american accent?
From my experience in learning to play guitar and sing, the stupider the exercise, the more it helps
this is awesome. i've been using it it's "the shit". i love this lady she is too cool. if she was here in L.A. i just mite pay fer some lessons. even still just this alone is a huge help.
I sound just like matthew tuck now. Thanks.
that face was funny!! hahha
that made me laugh a lot

Is this Randy Blythe from Lamb of God and not Matt Tuck from BUllet for my Valentine
Fail
I LOST.
And the song at the very beginning is "Scream Aim Fire" if that's the one you mean.
