Warm Up Routine cheat sheet: 2:06 - Shrug your shoulders 2:23 - Twist your upper body 2:38 - Yawn (with a smile!) 3:38 - Head roll 3:41 - Articulators (Funny faces) 4:11 - Tongue twisters (See description) 5:32 - Breathe with your diaphragm 6:28 - Simple natural "Sssss" noise 7:02 - Change noise to staccato 7:31 - Comfortable scale 8:54 - Slowly transition into screaming (turn on the distortion gradually) Good to go!
One of my fav ways is throat singing, it feels the most natural without an itchiness, I will say it will feel itchy if you don’t normally do it but to me it feels good to warm up with, I’ll go from low to high, same with clean singing with falsetto I think, go low to high and high to low. But I’m actually going to use these new tips
I've been learning to do false chords recently, and after doing this routine I immediately noticed how much less effort it took to do them. I'll definitely be doing this from now on before I scream.
Thanks for the routine! I had a thought while I was trying it at 8:57 where you gradually work into to the scream, making "ee-aah" vowel sounds. I worked through the other vowel sounds there, too. Some ee-ah, ay-ee, ooh-uhh, eye-ooo type of shit😂 It was helpful.
Super glad I found this channel, I'm starting to get back into doing vocals for the fun of it and I haven't tried in years, this warmup definitely helped out alot 🤘
Thanks for this. I've recommended your channel to pretty much all my friends, even those who aren't musicians so they can get an idea of the craft. Long time follower - love your content dude
Was looking for a good vocal warm up for the actors I'm leading in a Halloween event this year and I think this will be perfect. Thank a lot dude, it's exactly the resource I needed!
man, your videos are a blessing! alot of the stuff you teach its like i know it but utilizing it, is my problem lol its like i consciously forget then i get nervous and i been screaming going on 8 years now.
So Happy to have found your channel. Want to unlock my scream because I love singing along on concerts and ever since I started listening to metal I just really miss that! It just sounds incredibly stupid and you don't get the energy across when you're a female and just stand there singing in high notes :D
8:40 you say you have another video on how to add distortion to high vocals but I have not been able to find it under the mountain of music video reactions. Would be great if you had a playlist for lesson stuff
Warmups? I thought it was War Mups, like a battle of Muppets, but this is still cool! In all seriousness, thank you! Up the Irons! PS I think hitting the bell summons Cthulhu
Man! I'm struggling to track vocals right now, I think I've strained my voice. It's like my anxiety during tracking is making my throat tight and I try and compensate for the boomy mids by pushing too hard from my diaphragm and then now boomy mids even when I'm pushing as hard as I can because my vocals chords are fucked up. Sigh. I guess I'll wait a week and try again. I just don't understand why I can sound great 99% of the time with ease I tell you! But then I'm on the spot and I tense up!! It's the worst!!
I dont do metal scream but your warm up routine is really useful for beatbox as well. Thank you to share this with us. Really cool video (and channel bye the way) man !
Another tongue twister to add is “poorly installed speakers”. Say it five times fast. Around my house it turned into portly installed speakers which made everyone laugh. Either way it does the same thing roughly
How often should I train screaming? I train extreme vocals since 4 months and my plan is 40 minutes training(about an hour with warm ups) 3-4 times a week. Is this optimal? PS: I forgot to mention diaphragm training. I train my diaphragm about 3 times a week and it's only 15 minutes training.
I'm having an issue. Where I am getting the right sound. But after a while my jaw starts to hurt and my screams sound more like regular vocal fry without the extra push
Is there a way to like, keep my voice strong and in working order/used to the abuse when I don’t have anywhere to scream/sing. Long story short I lost my job due to covid (again) and I literally have no where to sing/scream because my cars broken and I live in apartments. Before I lost my job I learned so much (mostly from this channel) and got my voice exactly where I wanted it

Where can I find your videos of how to use your diaphragm? LOVE this one btw! Thank you so much for sharing😍
@@punchdrunkfunk23 I recommend using honey after practicing to help your throat rest. I've tried before practice and it just left an almost milky film coating the inside of my mouth. didnt enjoy it when I was trying to practice Haha.
I don't know if this question has been asked yet but, how long should this warm-up go for? i.e. 20 Minutes, 30 Minutes, 1 Hour, etc...etc...? Good video and thank you for your advice in helping with screams. Keep it Metal \m/
The best answer is to gauge it less by time and more by feeling. If I say "do each for five minutes" but after five minutes you still have tension, then the warm up wasn't effective. So make sure that you are warming up with intention. Think about the way your voice feels and sounds. If after three minutes of diaphragmatic breathing you still have trouble maintaining your airflow, regroup and re approach the technique. Hope that helps!
Not to be picky or anything, but the diaphragm works in kinda the opposite way. The diaphragm is a large muscle that pulls down on the lungs. Then, due to the pressure difference, air is rushed into the lungs, which is what makes the chest expand 🤓 Well, that's the overkill explanation at least. Really enjoy your videos by the way, found your channel 2-3 weeks ago. Keep up the good work! And maybe do a reaction video for Devin Townsend's "The Death of Music" (live in Plovdiv)? Cheers!

How many people yawned when Mark yawned?

Why did you not mention drinking luke warm water

What’s the best thing to drink and do you use anything to lube up your throat?
room temperature water. try your best to stay away from sugar and milk when doing vocals.
Eternal Devastation 666 can you use honey?

From the tongue twisters onwards, how long/how many times should each thing be done in the warm up?
How long do you di each of them to warm up? Just as long as you did it for?
