The S1 had serious adhesion issues IRL since only half of its weight(without the tender) was pressing on the driving wheels, which may explain the slow start. Ideally you want most(atleast 3/4’s)of a steam locomotive’s weight pressing on the driving wheels
some other comenters have pointed it out in the past, but the AI (or Lazerjet himself) is just shit at setting up the S1 which doesn't have these problems for other users
Interesting that the NYC Dreyfuss Hudson beat the Mallard in one of your races and in your American steam race, the S1 just about finished close to the Hudson. So, I am surprised that the S1 lost.
You say that American steam locomotives are big and those in the UK are small, I will agree with that. But you also have to consider "why" they were bigger in the first place. The US cover MUCH more land than the UK and therefore larger engines are used to get things done.
@@oliverwinsper9455 I don't see why people proceed to add *American locomotive are not as Stylish* Of course Not, They were all Built for Fright hauling In tough Conditions, Of course they are going to have So many pipes, air compressors,Valve gears being exposed.

S1 would win if driven by player and not AI. I was in beta testing team and did the screenshot for website. This Steamer really has some serious speed to it hitting even 168mph on my tests and often being at 152-156mph on NEC (Washington-Baltimore)
the S1 was flawed as all hell, suffering wheel slip issues that mean it's either a slow start or no start for the S1, as such I must vote for the A4 bring in a PRR T1 however...
@user-jh6ik1qd7p acceleration doesn't matter. It's the top speed of the engine that actually matters. And Mallard was going downhill with a tailwind anyway.
@@Fold-103 good question... probably because the British railway systems were so busy (not) that they built a dynamometer car to measure the speed. The S1's was never perfectly run on a dynamometer car, it was simply a speeding ticket they'd received.
Lazerjet, could you please run these locomotives at a more realistic power rating? %125? Really? You would find that it is much more interesting when these engines are running at realistic speeds. Just a thought.

actually, it hasn´t been that much of a problem, matter of fact, it had similar adhesion to the later q2 duplex
The S1 was 140 ft long, the longest steam loco ever built, it had 7200 hp, and was rumored to go 156 mph.
I hope LaZeR Jet sees this comment
(The one above mine)
Hard to believe any loco was bigger than the UP Big Boy
It was the longest yes but Big Boy is the biggest ever built and had more driving wheels. S1 just had a longer tender
@@tegusnakegaming1441 But the Blue Ridge locos where the heaviest

he's shit at seting up the S1.
Yeah. Maybe it is because of the model
The S1 is like the steam equivalent of the bullet train
If bullet trains were steam engines
That's what I keep saying, it's basically a bullet steam engine.
Except it’s not
@@jonathanparry7824 yeah that’s what the word equivalent means
While the S1 is problematic because of its size and serious wheel slips, it’s still an amazing train for its speed and streamlined.
the 6-4-4-6 wheel arrangement has a huge design flaw
While the S1 is a beautiful engine its size gives it a painfully slow start in these races
Oh if you want to see the S1 in real life, you can't sadly. 😔
She was retired in 1946, and scrapped 3 years later.
It's been a while since I watched these videos. I forgot how entertaining it is. Nice video!
Yeah, I can agree with you on that...
You should do another stream with the S1 using passenger cars. Idk where to get pennsy ones but the empire builder ones are pretty nice.
The gg1 pack has Prr coaches
There's a Broadway Limited pack that comes with one of the Baldwin shark noses.
It's always a good day when lazerjet uploads!

WELL DONE MALLARD! :D
Junk
The S1 is great, it's just too large to be practical.
No. It's not. It's built for speed & power, unlike mallard, which is more on the speed side of things.
@@knightryder6068yes it was that’s one of the reasons why only one S1 was built. It could only be run on one line
1:55 I thought you may leave that second tender on for the race. ;)
Ok timeout thats not really fair considering the S1 is WAYYYYYYYY heavier than the Mallard
Apparently PRR were fined for going 135mph - 155mph. Using a watch and timing distance between stations is legitimate way to measure speed.
Hi lazerjet I’m a huge fan I love your videos and streams
Great video, LaZeR!
If you had a longer race track i think the s1 could win

I hope one day you could post these tracks to the Steam Workshop
I think Mallard is the fastest steam engine ever
Hello lazer, great video, have a great day.
I love the modern look of the streamline prr s1
S1 is the steam version of a bullet train

The best UA-camr ever
By a long way, I'd have to choose mallard, I mean it is my 4th favourite train (3rd: city of turo, 2nd: tornado, 1st: flying Scotsman

The Mallard you got was was the Prototype thats why L.N.E.R was Red😂
Union pacific 844 used to be the quickest and now it is slow
But now there is a new rocket the s1
Wait until you see the big boy in real life.
Oliver Do you use the class 47 Diesel to race with as well, or do you just use it to monitor the races.
Hi Lazer Jet I’m from America 🇺🇸
S1 is the best loco I think
You gotta have 2 races

Faster than A4, I'm picking S1 because of its main Ability.
Mallard is slower than s1 because it can got at 126 MPH and the S1can go at 156 MPH
I have to say mallard has to win because of it’s speed and the streamline
The Pennsylvania railroad was actually fined for going 152 mph in the S-1, but nobody seems to care about that.
