Very helpful as are most or all of your videos that I have just begun to watch. The move staying over the ball you describe is also described as "covering" the ball or, less elegantly, keeping your nose over the ball. I think sometimes the advice one sees to look at the back of the ball can cause the amateur to lean back as you show. One other thing, and this is totally consistent with you points here, to get the forearm pointing up to the sky, at address you can have the inside of the right elbow facing 90 degrees from the target line, in other words, from you there toward me the viewer. It is also important to keep the right wrist bent back in extension and the right elbow a little ahead of the right hand at the top and on the way down. You can test this by coming halfway down with the elbow ahead of the wrist and the wrist in extension. Your elbow will be close to the body and the club shaft will be shallowed with the club head behind the hands. But without changing anything else, just move the right elbow away from the body and behind the wrist. Presto, the shaft will become near vertical and you will be coming over the top. Looking forward to watching other videos. Cheers from Rockville, Maryland USA a suburb of Washington DC.

Another key benefit I gleaned from keeping the trail arm pointing skyward in the downswing is that this very much encourages use of the bounce of the club as opposed to the digging of the leading edge into the ground. This trail arm pointing upward enormously helps with whisking or brushing the the ground with the club head through impact.

I have spent dozens of hours filming myself trying to get into the classical p6 and p7 positions in a dynamic way (a swing) and have had no success until watching this video. Thank you, Russell.

Great help! I’m finally getting it. If you do this the club face has to follow to the ball properly.

Russel, the why as you have explained with the proper use of rear hand, shoulder move and shallowing the club, plus the rotation of the wrists to correct the club face puts it all together very well! Thank you!!

I had an amazing result by using the concepts presented in this video...at the end of practicing it ( I performed the exercise on approx 30 balls at the range ) I hit 3 full shots where the feeling at impact was that the balls felt nearly weightless at impact and went perfectly straight...this is a feeling I could easily become addicted to...thank you Russell Heritage.

Thanks for the video! I've had a tendency to stand up during the down swing resulting in thin and toe shots. Looking forward to trying the rotation drill to maintain better posture.

Your lessons are masterful! I grasp what your saying but doing it is the challenge. I'm 78 and my body doesn't work as well as it used to. If I could only have found u 10 years earlier. I hit so many range balls that it's killing my back.

As a low handicapper but often bottom groove striker I can totally relate to this video. My bad shot is getting weight stuck onto trailing leg and snap hook my drive!!!!!. The thought of underside of forearm pointing upwards coming into impact will hopefully open up a whole new world for me cheers Russell

"Turning your body over your lead leg.." that helps a lot! Im starting to understand getting into the lead hip more and more.

An excellent vid lesson for me, have a tendency to lose my trail arm . I like your feel of trail arm forearm to the sky on downswing and thru. Thanks !

Excellent video - this is what I have been doing in an effort to get across to my lead side the downswing has become steep. Will try this tomorrow. Thank you

Thanks for this . really good advice to focus on the low point to start with. I have so often tried and not stuck with it because of the over the top and open club face it produces. Been doing this a lot on the range recently and not worrying about the result too much in terms of shot and it's helped me understand what the arms have to do to square the clubface. I also have this swing thought of keeping the right arm bent through the entire swing - same as at the top of the back swing. Obviously it isn't the same all the way through, but the feel really helps achieve the low point after the ball and not straightening the right arm until after the hit.

Great video Russell. Does the set-up also start with a slightly open hips given the peer over the edge of the building?

Russell, would you please review the difference in striking between an upright vs forward leaning swing? I'm feeling more power and control from a More erect swing than bent over. I just have no feedback as it has winter and there is snow on the ground.

Right forearm pointing up to the sky - now that's a good one!

  • @pohoresky
    @pohoresky Рік тому

BIG takeaway here is to get and keep that right forearm pointing to the sky on the way down to stay in posture in a squatted position for a wispy strike

I was under the impression that the time-honored concept we should try and keep the back to the target as long as possible. What say you?

So, fan the clubface wide open, then roll it through square to closed through impact with perfect timing? Maybe should rename it 'This right arm move makes bad shots extremely likely'

If you use the square to square swing non of this hand manipulation is necessary

These gurus just crack me up! Do this and you will drive 300 yards..... not happening. Pretty much all a bunch of recycled BS. Like Ben Hogan said, the answer is in the dirt... go look for it there.

Russell, ya seem good coach, but letting yourself down with silly cheesy click bait titles😢, bad shots impossible, it's insulting to our intelligence, we watch some videos of you, so we not stupid...have confidence in quality of your content, ya don't need to resort to silly titles.

Why would you want to count on that last second arm rotation to square the club? Seems counter intuitive to me.
