At 52, Olivia was my first concert in the 70's, "Have you ever been mellow." I also remember thinking how beautiful she was and that if I couldn't feel for her then this gay thing is for sure gonna stick and not a phase.
I could watch Olivia and Ru all day. Olivia was a big influence on me, growing up. Grease and Xanadu were always on repeat. I loved the camp, the tongue-in-cheek humour and the fun that those movies brought me. Pure joy, really. And Olivia was always so graceful and beautiful and sweet. I love her so much.
The first concert I ever saw live was in the 70's Olivia had a hit song, "Have you ever been mellow." my older sister drove me to Ashville NC to see her in concert. My sister mentioned how beautiful Olivia was, don't you think so brother? My response was, "she's no John Travolta." To which my sister said, "that answers a lot of questions!" That was the day I could be myself with at least one person. Thanks Olivia and yes you were beautiful!
This lovely lady (has she even aged a minute?!) helped me more than I'll ever be able to express...I got Cancer when I was 15, and while going through chemotherapy, I learned of her quote about thinking of the chemicals as a healing "golden liquid"...obviously it was what was saving my life, but taking those chemicals into your body is never easy or pleasant...but while thinking of that quote, that dull, coppery chemical suddenly became a lot prettier to me, and her words and her inspiring courage helped me find my own...And Olivia is *absolutely* right about trusting your instincts. I recall that a week before I discovered my tumor, I had a dream that the doctor was telling me that I had Cancer, and I woke up in hysterics...obviously, you don't need to go to the doctor about a nightmare, but the rest of that week, there was a startling difference in my energy level, and as if the dream weren't enough, it literally felt as though my body was telling me that something was wrong. Sure enough, a walnut-sized lump appeared on my neck the following weekend and I told my Mother that I needed to go to the Doctor the next morning. After trying antibiotics with no improvement, (I actually think the lump slightly grew) I had a biopsy, and was then diagnosed with Large Cell Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma...fortunately, I had caught it so early that it hadn't spread, and I only had to have 2 rounds of Chemo after removing the tumor. I don't say this with the intent of scaring people, but please, if you see a suspicious lump on your body, DON'T WAIT. I know it's frightening, but going in as quickly as I did saved my life. I know she may not see this, but thank you, Olivia...you are truly a remarkable woman in every sense, and I will always be in debt to you...your words were very much what held my hand during those difficult nights in the hospital. I love you.
Interviewing people while driving is brilliant. There's something about how people chat with one another in such a relaxed way when you're going for a drive...BRILLIANT RUPAUL...BRILLIANT
I love the way Ru-Paul interviews, how multi-tasking can one be, even it's a drive around the block; and hold up such pleasant interesting, informative, and intelligent conversation, is uncanny. OLNJ is just an amazing woman and so full of nice positive vibe. That was one of my favorite interviews so far...Congrat's RuPaul.
This is a very good interview between Rupaul and Olivia. It’s very good to know that Rupaul is such a good fan of her music and movies…Olivia,we honestly love you!!!…Karl Schumaker 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
It's so great to see someone interview ONJ that is a true fan of hers, it makes for a much better interview, and I was impressed that he knew who Pat Carroll and John Farrar are...ONJ hasn't always gotten the respect she deserves, in my opinion, and her 'Physical' album is still one of best produced albums out there and her vocals on it are flawless...just saying. THANK YOU, RUPAUL!!!!
Great interview!!! I've been a fan of Olivia's for..... more than 35 years now and I am still hopelessly devoted to the woman!!! Thanks Ru for that great interview!!!
Great interview!!! I am a HUGE fan of Olivia's.......luv'd her since I was 8 years old. Such a class act!!! She is a wonderful lady.......I would luv to see her this summer at the Flamingo in Vegas......trying to save up some money....And Thank you Rupaul for a great interview!!!!
She is the epitome of a feminine, beautiful woman. So classy. Since the 70's I also admired that glowing skin she had. I love Grease and Xanadu - don't think I'll ever get sick of them
This was such a wonderful and positive interview. Ru is just lively and funny as usual and Liv was her usual graceful and classy self. ❤️ Rest in eternal peace Olivia. I will always love you! Thank you for gracing the world with your gentle and caring presence.
Just discovered this show today. watched alot of them, and so far this one and the John Waters one are the best. I love Olivia, she'll always be Sandy to me :)
gurl... ME. TOO. I watch Xanadu at least twice a year, I own every version of the soundtrack (cassette, record, CD, itunes) and I did NOT take kindly to the broadway show making a mockery of it, Xanadu is a beautiful fairy tale, capturing some of the greatest talent! I can sing every. single. track.
I want to take a moment to confess that my mother named me Kira, after Xanadu. When people ask me about my name I tell them my mother named me from the movie but most people these days haven't seen it.
At 1:57, Rupaul starts to talk about The Bee Gees. He mentions that he attended Barry's Birthday party in Miami in 1986 or '87. It was actually the 29th Birthday party of Barry's brother, Andy Gibb- he was a successful pop star in the late 70's and 80's. Unfortunately, Andy died one year later- 5 days after his 30th birthday. He was very talented!!! RIP Andy!!
In her own way, she's an honorary Soul Sister. She's sung with Reverend James Cleveland and The California Community Choir. She admitted growing up listening to Dionne Warwick and Ray Charles (RIP) who was a major influence on so many folks from Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Bill Medley (The Righteous Brothers) and even lent a helping hand to Smokey Robinson whose debut at The Apollo Theater was a disaster in 1959. She helped Tina Turner make one of the most successful comebacks, in Pop Music, she sang with Take Six a Gospel R & B Group. She's worked with so many Folks none of which were as successful as her in The US from Cliff Richard, her former Singing Partner Pat Farrar and Pat's Husband John who wrote a large majority of her Hit Records. Now Cheryl Ann Tweedy (Formerly of Girls Aloud) will be planning to guest star on the UK Version.
I watched this years ago. I had to come back to this after her passing. RIP ONJ 💕🕊
Olivia Newton-John. We love and honor you! RIP Queen!
To me, she's a legend for sure. Ru just had a legend in his car
Olivia Newton-John the original Princess Of Pop!
Ramble away Olivia. You've been my idol since age 13 and as a BC survivor, you are my hero!

This clip should be called "RuPaul gushes over...."
I was just thinking that, usually it's more of a 2-way thing but he's clearly starstruck, it's adorable to watch

I want to take a moment to confess that my mother named me Kira, after Xanadu. When people ask me about my name I tell them my mother named me from the movie but most people these days haven't seen it.
Interviewers/Hosts should take note of Ru's style. It's why The RuPaul Show worked so well!
