- Actress, author and singer Olivia Newton-John, 71, is battling breast cancer for the third time. "I'm happy. I'm lucky. I'm grateful. I have much to live for. And I intend to keep on living it," she tells "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King in an emotional interview at her Los Angeles home. Newton-John talks about her diagnosis two years ago and how, while the pain can be unbearable, her spirit remains unshakable.

My dad died of cancer 6 months ago, he was 59. When I learned about her death, I happened to be in hollywood, literally across the stress from her Hollywood star. I had to pay her my respect. Such an inspiration, not only for her acting career and her voice, but for her strength. The way she approached her situation, the way she looks like a true angel in that video... I'm sure she arrived up there as one. Rest In Peace beautiful human.

She was so strong, beautiful and peaceful despite all her pain. I’m glad she felt as though she had accomplished so much that she wanted in her life. It’s scary as a breast cancer survivor to think 5, q0 or even 20 years later it can come back and with a vengeance. It is very frightening. I pray I never have to experience it again and i hope to be able to accomplish my dreams. She is a great inspiration! RIP beautiful lady!

She was beautiful, even in her February 2022 Japan interview, when her health was really declining. I agree with you....stronger than me too, although maybe we'd be stronger than we give ourselves credit for. I imagine it's easier to be when you're rich with the best of the best and I don't mean that in a derogatory way towards her b/c everyone deserves success. She did handle herself with grace/class/humility...she realized she was fortunate and expressed herself so eloquently but at least kind/gracious enough about those ailing, especially with cancer and sold one or two of her homes to open up the OJN Cancer Wellness and Research Center (BTW...if you haven't taken the "tour" of her homes via You Tube...you might enjoy it. Her Australian home was/still is, I'm sure, just magnificent...my personal taste and favorite....but I wouldn't turn down any of them. HA!

She had so many great hits. Even though the movie “Xanadu” was pretty silly, she was charming in it. In fact, two of my all time favorites of hers are “Magic” and “Suddenly.” She could take a bad movie and make it better.

Cancer is so horrible. Having cancer in the past myself, and seeing other people passing away eventually from the disease is very distressing. I know Olivia did everything right, maybe even prolonged her life, but the end result was still the same. Seeing as money was no object this inabled her to afford all those things health insurance doesn't cover. This is probably why she lived 30 more years since original diagnosis. God help the rest of us. I'm only 5 years out which is scary. I've already had one local recurrence. 😳 The whole thing is very upsetting. I'm sorry for her, and all the rest of us going through this.
The latest immunotherapy drug, dostarlimab gives hope for millions of cancer patients. The tumours vanished in all of the participants who took part in the trial. I hope they market it soon. They are still researching it. It seems to be a miracle drug.

One of the nicest entertainers around. She was also an environmentalist long before it became fashionable. I remember back in late 70s she wasn't wearing furs. She cancelled a concert in Japan at the height of her popularity to protest the killing of dolphins.
Didn't know that. It makes me like her more.

I also wrote her a letter as we share same birthday & other things... which is incredible...she sent me a beautiful photo of her signed & envelope was hand written by her.... I could not believe it...she truly is. an amazing human being & so genuine. Saw her in Ireland in July...so friendly & so humble... what a beautiful lady 😍😍

My wife and I saw this episode of CBS Sunday Morning the Sunday after I started chemo for my first round of nonsmokers lung cancer. We've both been living her attitude ever since, even after round 2 which required brain surgery to remove the metastasized cyst. My Oncologist knows I don't want to hear 5-year estimates or long-term prognoses of any kind and tells me as little as is professionally required. At her request, I tell my wife none of it, and we're still planning our milestone anniversary in 20 years. Thanks, Olivia! RIP

I had it 19 years ago. Once is enough, it's scary how it can return years later. Some people act like I had a cold & there's nothing for me to worry about. They just don't understand what this awful disease can do. My life has never been the same since the day I was told I had it at age 47.

I was so excited to see her in concert with my family in 2014. She was amazing! Her voice was so clear and perfect. At the end of the concert my 22 year old niece turned to me and said, "That does it! I was definitely born in the wrong decade." Thank you for making my entire life wonderful with your music Olivia. You are goodness, strength and elegance and the world will always love you ❤️. One of the truly great.

Went to ONJ's Physical tour in October 1982 in Fresno, Ca. I purchased a program and a t-shirt. Still have them today along with the ticket stub. She has broken many hearts and healed many souls, she was a fantastic woman and talented. Her music will live on and the musical "Grease" is the word. This interview should've made me cry, but instead I'm so uplifted by Olivia's incredible attitude.
I know each cancer patient has their own survivor coping skills, but her attitude is so positive and realistic.
Olivia chooses not to play "victim" bc that doesn't change anything and she knows she has to be in charge of how she faces each day.
On a side note after Olivia's passing, Gayle adds Olivia is one of few celebs who still kept in touch long after the interview. They've kept each other posted with texts.
Olivia's outlook and how she treated others is why people remember her so fondly.

Oh Olivia, If you only knew how I idolized you. I was in the third grade when Grease came out. I absolutely adored you. You were so beautiful in that movie.; I remember seeing you in that black leather top and pants at the end when Sandy & Danny got together and she dropped her good girl look and her hair was curly and hair pulled back in combs. I wanted to be her! I thought it Momma made me that outfit, my crush would fall in love with me.

She's one of the reasons I started exercising when I was a teen. Sadly, I did not keep up with that otherwise I'd look as great a she does; she looks amazing.
I loved her too, not as a girlfriend, but as an artist. I loved singing along with her on the radio. I loved the purity, the tone of her voice. My prayers are with her and her family. It's difficult to do interviews when you're not feeling well. I thank her for her sacrifice. She knows her fans want to see her, we want reassurance that she's okay. She's not, but she tries, for us. Thank you Olivia. ♥️ You're a magnificent artist.

This just popped up as a suggestion. Being a fan of Olivia's from my teens, I'm in tears. Though a mixture of happy and sad. She was a wonderful inspiration for so many of us so it's hard not to be happy watching her smile and showing her amazing strength, yet sad at our loss of her. She will be greatly missed. My prayers go to her family and close friends.
