Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. After making this video, I do plan on remaking the other older content too. I will probably look at remaking another one for next week. Maybe backward crossovers.
When I finished watching the video I went straight to the comments section to see if I was the only one laughing 😂😂 it's so educating and simultaneously so so amusing to watch you teach! Thanks a lot!
Very helpful-- thanks! I appreciated the tips on checking the rotation at the end-- this is what I'm working on at the moment. Also I ♥️ that the folks in the background were getting their wheelchairs out on the ice. So great!
I'm happy to hear you found the video helpful! Fortunately the ice rink in Swindon does a great job at making skating very inclusive for everyone. It's great that they give the opportunity for people in wheelchairs to get the thrill of going on the ice.
Excellent video, plus I'll give you big points on the comedy. TRLOL. 6:30 I was just coaching my best friend on the three turn and he was doing what you illustrated here, shifting the arms while keeping his shoulders square to the direction of travel. He looked exactly like you comically illustrated. It took some earnest coaching to get him to twist that waist and as soon as he did it two things happened simultaneously: 1: We all could see the difference and cheered him, and 2: He grabbed his back because he could really feel those muscles working when he twisted his waist like that. Once he did it correctly once he could tell the difference. It feels unnatural to skate straight forward while your shoulders are twisted off the line of travel.
3 turns in my opinion are one of the hardest turns to perfect, mostly to stop rotation. Rockers, counters, brackets don’t give me as much hassle as three turns……underestimated
I've been keep watching the old three turn video, it helps me a lot when i started to learn three turn myself months ago(ok I'm a slow learner 😢) now I'm at the point trying to keep my hip open/check after the turn, it is hard to hold it long. This new video is a bonus to me! Hopefully I can get my three turn soon. Thank you!
Loyd you just dropped what I requested previously thank you lotsa ! This tutorial too funny and more detailed than the FO-3 turn you posted years ago. I jotted down your helpful tips 💛⛸️
I actually made this video because I read your comment right before preparing to shoot a UA-cam video and thought it was a good idea! So decided to do film this instead. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
I must be doing the right hook 😂 Best instructions I've found, trying to learn it on roller skates so difficult to control and stay on one foot. You nailed all the things I'm doing wrong 😅
Very informative. Thank you so much. Oh, and thanks for highlighting all of the silly things I was subconsciously planing to do when I go out there 😂😂, I’ll make sure to follow your instructions as best as I can.
This will at the top of my list I'll do my own version but I'll take your key notes... I'm experiencing the importance of that skill for better movement
Thank you for the instructions. Mmh, I tried all evening, but I keep over-rotating, although I check my shoulder as if my life depended on it 😭😭 Maybe something is wrong with the hip? Do I pull up the hip on the side of the free leg?
Hi! Idk if you still read the comments on this video lol, anyway do you have any tips for finding the ball and keeping the balance on it? Love the videos!
I'm struggling so hard making a circle on my left outside edge. I try rotating and leaning into the circle more but my circle just does not not happen :< does anyone else have this issue?
Hi, Lloyd. Is there any hard & fast rule for the hand placement at starting position? I find it easier to get into the check position with stability when I have my right hand in front when doing the right outside 3-turn, and vice-versa on the other side. Could you also do a video on inside 3-turns? I am struggling with that for the longest time 😩.
No, there isn't a hard and fast rule about it, unless you put your shoulders square when you move your hands instead of rotating the whole torso. I thought about teaching it the way you describe in this video but decided against it as I find it makes people rush the entrance edge too much. I personally think it's better to develop a nice even semi-circle with a nice curve in and out. How you describe it can result in quite a straight-line type of 3 turns. I think there is the inside 3 turn posted on my channel somewhere (it's quite an old video now and probably needs an update too). If not, it is definitely on the website/Patreon
I believe there is a tutorial on the double inside 3 turn available on my UA-cam channel (I'm 99% sure I posted it there). If not, it is definitely available on the website/patreon.
My problem is the continuity. Moving from left forward outside 3turn and right forward outside 3turn is hard. I tend to go on my toepick to slow down before I transition to the next one vs when I see others just smoothly going to the next without the disjointed/choppy feeling
That's a very common mistake when trying to do alternating 3 turns. I think I posted a tutorial about it to my website/Patreon. It's one I would like to post to UA-cam eventually too.
Weren't you in London? Or is my mind playing tricks on me? Sry, don't know all the rinks there... But I'd love to know if you still offer in person 1:1 lessons. 🙋🏼♀️
I was in London many years ago training. I'm teaching in Swindon ice rink at the moment actually, I teach 1:1 lessons there and film content for UA-cam and Patreon.
@@IceCoachOnline Ah! Thanks. This seems close to Oxford, cool. If it has nice hiking/hill walking areas nearby, or something else naturey, maybe I'll check it out soon! How could I reach you for lessons? Website or Mail or...? I'm a UA-camr too and I have GB on my list for next year; the nice rinks are a must 💯🤍
@@UndineAlmani yes it's very close to Oxford. About a 30 minute drive. This ice rink is kind of in the middle of a bunch of really cool places to go to visit by car. Driving about 30 minutes in any direction from it will bring you to a variety of great places. You can reach me by emailing team@icecoachonline.com or shooting me a DM on the ice Coach online Instagram account (it's only me that runs the accounts, so I'll pick it up). That's cool that you're a UA-camr! I'll check out your account :)
I spent a fair bit of time looking at pictures of Harry Mattick, thinking which would be best to include. Probably more time than I needed to for a quick mention in the video. He had too many good pictures to choose from.
Very helpful video. By the way, although a good idea, your marker does not show up on the video. You need a darker color. LOL, what the heck is with the wheel chairs being pushed around the rink in the background?? The senior center having a field day? Some kind of enrichment activity? I'm 64 now, I hope thats not me in 20 years.
So what is this one called?: T position, right leg in front. Pusing off with left leg going in a curve (right foot i side edge) and then turning on that right foot to outside edge ? We were practicing that in my ice skating class and im confused because all the 3 step turns that go around the left start with the left foot outside edge... Oh also it's not just one curve but two kinda like the top part of a heart
I was already dying of laughter, and then Lloyd was like "I will SEND YOU, I will SEND YOU this diagram". 🤣
"Surprise! Three-turn" - I busted out laughing AHAHAH
😁 Haha happy to hear it made you laugh
Me too! All I can do is surprise 3-turns. 😂 Feel like I’ll be working on 3-turns forever.

After you turn, keep arm back and hip open. Look back, ball of the foot stays, look at center of circle

I'm struggling so hard making a circle on my left outside edge. I try rotating and leaning into the circle more but my circle just does not not happen :< does anyone else have this issue?
The hardest thing is to check the shoulder. I can’t stop my body from rotating after I switch to the inside edge.
