hey! just a random comment here! I wanted to say that I'm an animation student and I used your videos to learn the ice skating motion! the slow motion was VERY helpful and wanted to say thank you! and to let you know that your videos are helping other people too, not just the skaters! so thank you very much!!
Oh my God! Thank you so much for correcting my loop. I thought you had to do a half turn before the loop and now I see it’s a quarter turn. I can’t wait to get on the ice to try this. I’m going to try it at home on my carpet just to get the feel. But oh you are amazing and I’ve been skating for 10 years. Thanks for the correction.
As far as I can tell, You are the best coach on UA-cam. Very methodical and well explained. I have been skating for few years now few times a year every december on temporary ice rink with borrowed skates in my fifties. The skates are usually not sharp enough, but with your help I am close to do it anyway.
it took me several months to figure out this jump and land it properly, so my advise is not to give up and try experimenting with your movements a bit, till you start "feeling" the jump. Then repeat what works best for you. the trickiest part here is that this jump is actually quite simple, but you need lots of practice to understand it! And thank you Mary for excellent tutorial, it was very helpful to hear explanation from your perspective.
Vivargenti .......same here!! So glad you commented, coz I’ve been trying to find out how long it has taken people to get this jump and everyone else seemed to be able to get it so much quicker...Took me two months to be able to even get the feel of it and do the teeniest weeniest of little jumps....(still can’t do it from crossovers tho, only the FI3 turn).....but I’m so happy to at least get what I have and can now start to build on it.....
@@leannemartin9137 someone in the comment section below told it took them 3 years.. so two months is not that bad!! And congrats on first success :) I also started with FI3 entry, it's much easier to get the momentum that way. You can also try jumping not straight from crossovers, but (as a transition to crossover entry) first do a forward outside 3 (like for salchow), step on right foot, legs cross and then jump. Worked for me as well
Thank you for making this video! This is the best Loop Jump tutorial, and thanks to you I actually did it this weekend. I went from hating this jump as I don't like the three turn enterance I had learned to absolutely loving it!
Thank you soo much for putting the clips in slow motion and explaining in so much detail. (especially the arms because I had no idea I was doing that wrong. probably in other jumps too.)
Hey everyone! Wanted to ask a favor If you enjoy my channel, please remember to subscribe! Most of my viewers are not subscribed. With more likes and subscribers, my videos will be “recommended” by UA-cam to reach more skaters worldwide. I will always continue to post FREE UA-cam and Instagram skating content to give back to the skating community. It has been such a joy the past year making videos and connecting with you all. Thank you for your love and support!
Landed it three or four times after working on it for three years. My coach was stretched thin with lessons for other's. I also didn't really like her, compared to everyone else she made me feel stupid. This jump made me feel like, despite creatively be one of the best I could never live up to the technical aspect. After almost 10 years of skating I was told either figure skate or don't. I choose don't. Still I loved it. In the end not being able to perform in the end of year show crushed me. I'm amazing at improvising routines and the coach refused. I had to be there that day to perform in some of the group numbers and help with child skaters. It hurt.
I stopped skating as well because I didn't get along with my coach- it was terrible. She never explained techniques properly, never gave corrections even if I asked for it, apparently talked badly about me behind my back (I was friends with the girls in my group, that's how I found out) and made people she didn't like do spins in the lutz corner. I still absolutely love going skating and practicing on my own from time to time, but these experiences kinda put me off from actively wanting to get lessons again.
I love your videos Coach Mary :) but in fact when you look carefully at every videos of loop jumps in slow motion (even Yuzuru Hanyu , Javier Fernandez.etc) all the loop jumps actually take off forward : I mean when they leave the ice the toe pick and skate is facing forward and so in fact for a single loop jump we actually only have 1/2 rotation in the air :) we dont leave the ice facing backward but still we initiate the rotation backward while we start bending the legs. look up at 2.52min for ex and you can see you're facing forward when you leave off the ice ;).
A Loop takes of on a backward outside edge, and an Axel on a forward outside edge. Both land backward, which means, the Axel has a half rotation more (If the Loop has one rotation, the Axel has one and a half, Loop two rotations, Axel two and a half...)
I fell on my jaw doing a loop because my foot slid out of me when I landed. I cut my jaw kinda open and deep. Now I have a little hesitation doing them.
It's ok! Take your time slowly getting back to this. Most skaters have that same scar/injury. I too have a scar from a laceration on my jaw from wiping out during a camel spin!
@@leannemartin9137just like in dance jump up by going “heel, ball, toe” like a heel raise. You push through the heel, then ball of foot then off the toe last. When you land, it’s in reverse. Land on the toe, then push back to the ball of foot.
My coach actually tells me to do a half turn in the tight edge and then only jump half a rotation. And they actually tell me i jump too early and try to do a whole rotation and shouldnt. What is your opinion on this? Are there different ways of doing it?
it's hard to tell without seeing it, but the sound could either be scratching from your toe pick (should avoid this) or from good strong edge pushes (which is good!)
Euler jumps seem harder than actual loop jumps to me. You need to land in your left foot which is really different from landing with your right foot. I still think the Euler is a very nice jump if done with speed and power.
Loving your videos so much - thank you!! .....However, the (audio) feedback (when you are standing close to the video camera) is really bad - please fix - thanks!! xo
its not a full revolution in the air.... all loop jumps, single or triple have a half pre-turn on the ice. Realistically a single loop is a half rotation jump. The same applies to salchow.

you can still skate! it doesn't matter what people tell or think of you, as long as it makes you happy!

omg your loop jump is beautiful. i'm in freestyle 4 and this is the only jump i can't land. thank you lots :)
This helped SO much! My daughter learned it so much easier, thank you!

Could you clarify on what you mean by hitting the toe pick? Thank you! This was a really helpful video :)
Kit Kat it means your toe pick should be the last to leave the ice
yes exactly! a common error is jumping off the middle of the blade and not rocking all the way up to the toe pick, so you do not get maximal height
I still don’t understand “hitting the toe pick”.....I’m really struggling with it....
@@КатяПетрова-н2п thank you!

You have to wait for that hook on the circle
how do i avoid doing a half rotation before going into the loop? ive struggle trying to fix it
When I do backwards crossover i have this scratchy sound, is tht normal?
it's hard to tell without seeing it, but the sound could either be scratching from your toe pick (should avoid this) or from good strong edge pushes (which is good!)

thank youuuu
My coach just started trying to teach me this but I can’t seem to get the landing, I chicken out and land on both feet, very frustrating!!
Fantastic video! Nice tutorial! :)

I did the half loop on accident trying to learn the loop lol

yes i have room for improvement for sure! i am hoping to have a camera person by summer so quality should be much better.
I couldn't manage to do it until they just told me to go for it and then i got it first try😂
busted my butt doing this today LOL
