How To Check If The Motor/Engine Mounts Are Bad In Your Audi C7 A6

- If you want to check if your motor mount is completely shot, turn the car on, put the parking brake on, foot on the brake and put it in D then while holding the brakes give it some gas, if you have a lot of engine movement then the your motor mounts are probably bad. So I replaced my passenger side motor mount as the old one was completely broken in two pieces, I decided to go with the 034 Motorsports street density mounts and as far as the engine thumping and moving, that's pretty much gone. The only thing I noticed now is that I seem to have more vibration in the car when the car is in D and idling, so next is to figure out the culprit for this.

cool video, did the mounts throw any codes ? pass the basic settings in vcds ? I one vibration or growling at 110kmh. changed my driveshaft carrier for an HD one
Did the second mount fix the vibration in D? That vibration is killing me!! My motor seems to sit lower and one of the mounts has no juice left, so...

Not too sure, different generation of car, but if the engine is shaking a lot the motor mounts are always one of the first things to check.
question, i have hr springs installed also but I'm getting rubs on the driver side only where that motor mount is bad. Did you noticed any rubs on the side where your mount was bad? I'm curious
No rubs even when my mounts were bad, are you still on the stock struts? I'm pretty sure mine are shot and that's why I have slight rubbing now, I'm at 115k miles and the springs added alot of extra stress on the stock struts and it's usually advised to swap them both out, but I haven't, that might be your issue unless you switched those out as well

@@sherwinnelson681 Yeah, me too and I think that is what's contributing to the rub, it's bad already my mileage then plus that, so yeah I'd look into that honestly
Does broken motor mounts cause a lot of vibration in the cabin on idle?
YES, on these cars heavy vibration at idle is a very common symptom of bad motor mounts.
Did you get a CEL because of the bad motor mount?
No, the bad mounts didn't throw a CEL or any codes were logged, but you could just tell that they were really bad because of the vibration.
Audi SQ5 2015... can bad ruined engine mount can cause gearbox hard and weird shifting? Or make like a safe mode on gear when turn into a street???
Hmm, I'm not too sure, what gearbox do you have, the 8 speed or 7 speed?
Did it had anything to do with a gearbox mount, in the end?
No, car has been working fine ever since both motor mounts were replaced
Did you also feel a lot of vibration through pedals and the gear stick?
Yes, there was def vibration felt through the pedals atleast, especially when the car was in drive waiting at a light or something
@@roge6675 Man... I can't wait to get mine sorted. It's driving me nuts haha. Somedays it's much worse than others and I think it's causing gear shifts and clutch control to feel a bit jerky too.
Did you have to do an alignment after you replaced your mounts??
Well I did my steering rack at the same time as the motor mounts so I did get an alignment, I dont know if you'd have to get one if you only did the motor mounts

@@terrancesimmons1 First time, the rack just shit the bed, mechanic said the whole unit just stopped working, second time I actually ran over something and damaged the rack, but regarding the first time it messed up for no reason, there's actually a TSB on steering racks from 2012-2015 A6, A7s and a couple other models that used the same steering rack, so while not as widespread as some failures like motor mounts, there are enough failures for Audi to acknowledge that these do go bad
How hard was it to do?
Not that difficult, for the passenger side anyways, most difficult thing was sliding the old mount out and sliding the new mount in because the bracket that holds it kinda makes getting in and out even tighter than it already is, but everything else is very easy to do.
Remove fender liner, remove splash shield, then you loosen the 2 side bolts, then you jack up the engine a bit, (I used a 2x4 and a jack to lift engine slightly), then remove the middle bolt and then get underneath and wiggle the motor mount out, then just reverse order, if you're pretty mechanically inclined, I'd say 2 hours tops to do the mount, I took a bit longer but it still wasn't so bad.
Did you fix the vibration???
Tech said it was probably the other motor mount being bad as well, car is currently out as I messed up my steering rack again so I'm gonna fix that and do the mount at the same time.
So I just got my car back and did the other mount as well and know the vibration is gone, the other mount came out in 2 pieces as well lol

This is the exact part, they are the street density ones, the track ones don't work according to 034's official website. I'd recommend ordering them on FCPeuro's website, they have lifetime warranty on all of their parts! I just installed the second one and the car drives like new again!

No, shouldn't be motor mounts, something seems to be wrong with the electrical, I'd scan codes and see exactly what they tell you.
Mine had 50k miles and my passenger one blew out I took it to carr family auto and he took car of it

Check your drives haft center support bearing carrier my mounts are shot now I'm about to do them right now it's on the lift I'm make a video I have some s4 2004 videos take look and the mounts being bad and punching gas will destroy your center support carrier bearing carrier
engine mounts should be change all in the same time for obvious reason.
