Mad, I’ve recently discovered your channel and have been waiting for your next video The far cry series means a lot to me and Far cry 5 was one of my most anticipated games in 2018! Excited to watch this
IM SO HYPE TO SEE THIS! Love this game and can’t get enough of your content! More of any content would be amazing, especially far cry :) Keep up the outstanding work!!
So are you saying that after all that was spoken about this game, the devs somehow didn't put any love in at all? Seriously? Or am I just misunderstanding this because I know a lot of Triple A devs that still to this day put love in there games.
M.A.K. Dynasty Quote me where I said they didn’t put “any love at all”. I wasn’t even referring to this game in particular, merely extending a little not so literal compliment towards the owner of this channel. (I know AAA game developers personally that bleed for their art so it’s not meant to be a sweeping statement)
The first time I didn’t even get that Nancy was with him from the beginning. I thought that was supposed his “power” , making people obey him. I’m so stupid lol
I think it's worth noting that Far Cry 5 is one of the few games who's world I enjoyed being in so much that I actively chose to spend hours walking through the woods looking for bigfoot.
It's the only open world game I did everything in because it is so beautiful. And I'm from Utah, very close to Montana. Similar geography. They did an amazing job with this game and I can't believe people would think it was boring to have it set in American West.
The "culling the herd" routine actually got me when I kept getting more annoyed at the redo of the mission I just rushed through only to impulsively shoot Eli at the end and then realize what had happend afterwards.
that part was brilliant. I feel like they made the game slightly easier around that part because I was annoyed and just trying to blaze through it, was doing really well, and then BOOM... I already reacted before I realized what I did. Genius.
@@stavrosmayakofsky1915 also if you noticed it in that mission, everyone you shoot bleed instead of turning to dust, implying that you are killing actual militia this time
It fails miserably in one aspect though. If you realize the truth when they bleed instead of turn into a puff of smoke and you see through the mirage there's no option to spare Eli you MUST kill him EVEN IF you know the trick
@@jaybarbieri8619 sharky was great and funny, but he'd be starting wildfires all over the place and was terrible for stealth. same with hurk, I tended to stick alone cause grace, cheeseburger, peaches and Jess made things too easy-nick missed half the shots he took and hurks mom just wasn't useful. boomer was decent for stealth but the whole 'he brings you a gun' thing was completely useless.
This game definitively proves that the writers at Ubisoft are entirely capable of writing a thoughtful and meaningful game. Imagine if the team was allowed to make their own game without the restrictions of being a Far Cry game. A linear narrative action game in the style of Deus Ex with the message of Far Cry 5 would, in my opinion, be absolutely amazing. Being able to pace the action so that each part of the message hits at the exact right moment and won't be diluted and interrupted by open-world busywork.
Farcry 2 commentary on the war economy in third world counties was pretty interesting. The writers are there, they are just set back by boring game design.
it hurts so much because Ubisoft clearly have something to say in the gaming space, it's just always hidden under the slop of mediocrity they push out every year. they are entirely capable to make a truly great game but all, they do is follow popular gameplay trends
@@webinkdottThe developers of Ubisoft are huge victims to deadlines and market trend following set by the higher ups. Normally that contrast can be somewhat felt in games from most larger studios but Ubisoft’s war between the developers wanting to do their own things and the corporate side just wanting to vacuum up as much money as possible is all extremely hard to ignore.
I think the reason the sherif tells everyone to fall back in the secret ending is the fact that Joseph repeated a line they said in the helicopter. That tipped him off that he was listening in on their comms so they needed to fall back and send more people in.
Also the fact that they are outnumbered like 100 to 5, with all of them dedicated to the man you are trying to take. The fact they didn’t bring in the national guard from the beginning
@@romulas-cushmanproject3273 Actually, that is a bit of a plot-hole. The sudden disappearance of a county sheriff, his three deputies, and a Federal Marshal should have waged some questions. Even if you wanted to say that the cult hid the details, how can you scrub the disappearance of a Federal Marshal? Who was given an official warrant of arrest for Joseph? A contract that would have had to be printed out by a judge or magistrate.
As an American who's lived in both urban and rural parts of the country, I thought it was a stroke of genius to set a Far Cry game in rural America. There are a lot of urbanites who would feel that huge swaths of the country are completely foreign.
@@comradepolarbear6920 I dunno, wouldn't that depend on where they're from? Like, depending on the location it would be pine forests and mountains and bears being assholes, beaches and college students being assholes and the entire state being on fire once a year, red deserts and scorpions being assholes and mesas, etc.
Imagine coming up with this deep philosophical interpretation of the game's themes and one of the writers just comes out like, "Nah, we just thought it would be a cool twist."
The composer, Dan Romer, did the soundtrack to Disney’s Luca after doing FC5. The man is going places, and I’m glad this game’s incredible soundtrack showed what he could do.
Yeah, I love the game and have replayed it multiple times... but the kidnapping, it got old, fast. Makes little sense when you're flying in a plane or helicopter then somehow get hit by a "Bliss bullet", lose consciousness, and somehow don't die when your aircraft hits the ground :P
@@Draevan13 Right? I thought the radio thing was cool. But one time I left the bunker in Jacobs region and as soon as I got out I was shot by a bliss arrow. And then Jacob was interrogating me and asking where my bunker was. Took me out of the immersion a little.
I'm an Australian, and I've lived in a city my whole life, if a game released where you played in the Australian outback then it would be just as much of a foreign setting as a different country would be, despite it being the country I live in Something that I think a lot of Amerricans likely had with FC5
"Evil's favorite dress is salvation." I like that line a lot. I know this is two years too late, but this entire analysis really captured why FC5 was so good. Mad props.
Just playing through the prologue of Far Cry 5 got me thinking of how long it's been since a video game's prologue has gripped me and really immersed me into the world of the game. Maybe God Of War (2018) was the last game that had me like that from just the prologue. On my first FC5 playthrough, I remember hearing Joseph Seed whisper, "No one is coming to save you." As he stares, unblinking, almost as if he's not saying that to the character but to you, the player, as he stares at you through the fourth wall. A literal chill went down my spine when I heard that and I had to pause it... I was like, "Holy Shit! That actually got to me! That was creepy as F**K!" Amazing mo-cap scenes in this game. Best Far Cry since 3 IMO!
@@Corrupted there are times where that is not a good thing. It can devolve into senseless ramblings with no clear point. It's nice to listen to as background noise to pass time but at times you can catch yourself going "dude what the fuck are you saying"
Fun fact: Jacob is voiced by Mark Pellegrino, same dude that played Lucifer and Nick in Supernatural. Guy is really good at playing awesome religion based villains
I remember this game being the topic of political debate so I picked it up. The conversation online gave me a ridiculous expectation of the game. It was absolutely goofy but they are popcorn movies first. Really all this video shows me is that games media is filled with a lot of not very well read bloggers, I mean there's a reason I watch guys like you and not polygon. This definitely gives me a new respect for the game. You do amazing literary breakdowns. Hell you've clearly actually read Nietzsche. Like fuck it's nice to get a well done breakdown, write a book or something. You got the writing skills.
That’s because most mainstream game review channels or pages are all politically motivated. They wanted a game where they could be killing Christians and conservatives, they didn’t get that, so they gave it a bad review.
@gristle missle Uhm lol, I was actually litteraly just repeating what polygon said themselves. If you don't believe me just read their review on far cry 5.
@@VHS_NEON Just read the review and literally nowhere did they say that. Polygon is definitely very left leaning (it’s a VOX media owned) and definitely had some very SJW complaints about the story, but it wasn’t that we couldn’t kill Christians and Conservatives. They also gave the game a 6.5 which I wouldn’t exactly call a “terrible review” either. Im not a fan of Polygon either (I’m not a fan of their overly political takes on video games), but at least be accurate and correct when making strong claims and accusations like you did.
The "Seed was right and you were wrong about everything" thing is a pretty wild move in a player-involving cult-themed game, a cheeky move by Writer God.
@@factspeaker8518 Far Cry 2 deserves more praise for what it accomplished back in 2008 and still does to this day. Not many games can fully immerse someone and make them feel so oppressed, hated, undesirable and unwelcome like it does. That game has more personality than anything else in the series-- and this is exactly why newer fans hate it.
@@EmilyKimMartin yeah I agree , far cry 2 is fantastic in many ways , it may not be as "' fun " to play as the games that came later but it's much more engaging imo
@@EmilyKimMartin This is a big problem with Far Cry 5 that Whitelight didn't touch on: A failure to connect the gameplay with the story. Just like in far cry 3, the game (especially by the end) empowers you to an insane degree. Almost no combat challenge, let alone a single man, will ever give you trouble. However, when you get to the story bits, you turn back into a normal person and are powerless to interact with the game. I didn't listen to far cry 5's more philosophical elements not because I didn't think they could be interesting, but because I just wanted to blow Joseph Seed away with a shotgun and shut him up; you can do that to nearly every enemy in the game, so lemme do it now. but NOPE. The game can't give you that agency, because then it would completely lose all story composure. That's understandable, and it's the same problem that exists in every far cry game since 3, but when it tries to shove the indoctrination down my throat, it becomes more annoying than anything else; I'm annoyed now, and don't want to engage.
so moved to the USA when I was like 6 and I lived in NJ and now I moved to Georgia and my family used to go to Montana and all I got to say is that Montana is like a fucking fairy tale its fucking beautiful

@@tactikiller I feel you man. I live in Black Mountain NC and it was advertised as one of the most desirable places to live in a prominent publication a few years ago. We've been swarmed with Floridians and New Yorkers buying up land and building everywhere they can. Property value has skyrocketed and locals can't afford to live here anymore....
in terms of memorable characters, I first unlocked Sharky and then never let him leave my side. That guy gave me so many laughs and he was such a good companion. His dialogue isn't really my type of humor, but whenever he said something like "They got me in my money makers! Makes sense because they're such a big target but, AHHUG" (not exactly what he said but you get it) I'd always end up laughing through the stressful situation. I love Sharky dude
I feel like a major point many people have missed is the fact that the Seeds all had a psychologically traumatizing past, fisrt is the fact that Joseph directly mentions that John, the older brother, was abused constantly by his parents and that the way he tried to confront it was saying "yes" to it, starting his whole yes to everything schtick. We could assume that this abuse would be extended to the other 2 brothers. Jacob served in the army and was left stranded with his squadmate, having to kill and then (presumably) cannibalize him just to survive. Joseph lost his wife in a traffic accident and then killed his only child because he belived god told him to. My point is that these people are not just a band of "woke" guys who have found the answer to societys problems and are trying to fix it, no, these are 3 broken men that seek to explain the devastating trauma that they went through using cult-like rethoric and some sort of god given mission, seeing the world through a skewed lens molded by trauma and pain.
I like this There is a lot of backstory, its just a shame that so much of it is not in-game Makes it more rewarding for people invested enough to explore external sources I guess!
To me though it feels cheap. The whole "trauma created the villain" seems is so cliche and simplistic. Especially since a person can suffer trauma and instead become a hero.
The music in this game is so unnecessarily beautiful and good that it makes comments all over the internet think that Joseph and the cult's idiology makes any sense
Some aspects are sensible. Just most of their methods are psychopathic. They economically built up Hope County due to buying property and investing in the area and then "reaped" as much as they could store in their bunkers; whether the people they "saved" wanted to or not. Honestly, Josephs biggest mistake was letting his mentally unstable siblings run ANY part of his cult. Since John is a sadistic man-child who opts to maim people and throw tantrums when he doesn't get his way, Jacob is a "survival of the fittest" PTSD ridden cannibal obsessed with Pavlovian training, and Faith is a drug addict who actively ENSLAVES people with Bliss. Joseph was the only person who had any business leading and could have gone about his operation without attracting the attention of the US Marshalls, but because he decided to kill a spy instead of feeding him a sanitized version of his cult... well, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten a Far Cry game, now would we?
@@Xaxp joseph had basically groomed faith using drugs and had her name changed to faith just to cement it. we cant forget the fact that he strangled his child when they were only a few hours old so hes just as insane as his brothers but in his own way
@Xaxp That makes sense. I always saw Edens Gate as a hodge podge of Rajjneeshperum, the Branchdividians, and Shinrykio. You can see references of all of it
Dude, I seriously cannot play "Help Me Faith" while driving because something about the music and vocals must be infused with some kind of curse. They put me to sleep like a baby. On the other hand, "Now He's Our Shepherd" and "Keep Your Rifle By Your Side" makes me go 250km/h on a 30. The music is really bewitching and I cannot praise it enough.
Obviously haven't finished the video yet, but I remember having a great time with Far Cry 5. Took me a while to beat it though, wasn't to invested on the story
the game seemed so grindy and boring the AI was just so broken that it wasn't even remotely fun, the story was boring and you would do the same 2 things non stop just trying to raise that stupid reputation meter or whatever it was
When I first played Far Cry 5 I wasn’t sure if it was going to be as good as previous entries… until the helicopter crashes & Joseph produces such a powerful stare it feels like he just looked into your soul. That’s when I realised I was dealing with something totally different. We always hear about cults, most famously David Koresh’s Waco incident. You often hear about cults and think about how absurd their beliefs are but Far Cry 5 does a brilliant job of showing how such groups are so successful and even makes you question their beliefs, it’s a magnificent piece of work. What a brilliant game & an even better psychological breakdown. A truly entertaining watch
I found the location where Faith takes you during her cutscenes and boss battle. It's a mesa or tabletop hill (not sure of the exact term) in the far east of her region. There are normal trees and animals. It turns out the boss area is right next to the water area where you get on a boat with the Marshall.
A bit late but the term is likely a "plateau", and is quite accurate for representing a lot of shit happening while there's nothing but a wide plain terrain that barely distracts you in a map full of hills and pines, it was a good escenery design choice
1 YEAR LATER: I'd like to add that the area itself it actually marked out for you to find. You must only walk the path. It is paved with Bliss petals and blood. It winds around the side paths for a very long time, but it eventually comes out at the plateau.
THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER MADE SO REALISTIC SO TRAUMATIC THIS COULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN IN AMERICA AND I LOVE IT ITS SO GOOD THAT I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO BEAT THE GAME AFTER 2 YEARS BECAUSE I ACTUALLY LIKE THE FATHER AND FAITH IVE KILLED JACOB AND JOHN BUT I ACTUALLY LOVE FAITH SHE WAS THE BEST AND I CANT BRING MYSELF TO KILL SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SOUL SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAVED ONE DAY I WILL HAVE TO BEAT THE GAME AND KILL HER BUT NOT TODAY. @@itouchmazter5973 You can think of it as putting her out of her misery too. Throughout the game you keep learning of Rachel/Faith's brainwashing and suffering by Joseph(they aren't blood like the three brothers are. Rachel was addicted and manipulated by Joseph into becoming their little sister Faith. She isn't even the first girl he's done this to). She's too loyal to completely turn against him, but she still fears disobeying him and is caught in the middle. At the same time, there's a ton of infuriating hypocrisy. She scolds you that the ones you liberated from The Misery were there of their own choice and not to interfere again. Never mind that the whole region's water supply is tainted with bliss and everyone's tripping balls 24/7. Not cool. A side note, but one of the cults used for inspiration did something similar to a town in Oregon named Antelope. The Rajneeshees started off as a compound outside the city, but grew in numbers and started moving people into Antelope. They ended up taking over the town. Tried to expand into the larger town called The Dalles. Their plans didn't work, but this cult might've turned into a militant one like in Far Cry 5 if things went too far. They did try to mass poison the population of The Dalles.
Man, Far Cry 5 had so much potential, Ubisoft is truly that kid that can get an A if the kid just put a little more effort into their work but settles with a C
Nah bruh this game is GOAT'd. Now IDK how it felt at launch but I was playing this at 60fps on my Series X with the complete edition, that includes all of it's DLC's + New Dawn for bout $15, can't beat that... at all. The game delivered, the location is beautiful and even tho its countryside small town it feels big and full of life, vehicles are nice once you get use to em, same with weapons, same with skill tree and aided NPC's. but the most important part that saves this game is the characters, good and bad, I love them. But the bad guys steal the show... main the main antag Joseph Seed. This character is criminally underrated. I don't agree with the C grade and I know most games aren't perfect but I do wonder where you think Ubi could've improved with FC5?
For those who are saying FC5 is goated, y'all are right that the game is good but it's still not living up to its potential. It's like settling for some gold you find in a coal mine and choosing to retire instead of continue mining and find the diamond one meter behind it.

God this game fucks with me. There's so much about it that just perfectly fits this generic, cookie cutter formula for Ubisoft games that makes me wanna throw up in my mouth when I see it now. But, there's moments in this game, that have made me feel things no other game has. It just feels like this game was intended to be so much more, and every now and then you can see that glimpse through the generic curtain put over it.
It was indeed intended to be much more. The biggest shame of all, is that nobody will ever see nor know what this game was supposed to be. “Too many cooks”
There is a slow paced, methodical, Red Dawn-esque amazing game that is buried under all the Ubisoft activity nonsense. The world is so beautiful and the mapping, the architecture of the buildings in the world and the details and stuff strewn about the tables, counters, and cabinets etc... this game had a chance to slow down and let itself breathe, let players take in every outpost 10 times slower than they breezed through it on the way to the next one in the final edition of the game. I like to force myself to play with no attachments, no HUD, no cheap assistant buddies, only the NPC non-character buddies and basic weapons with no attachments... play it slow like a guerilla warrior and you can see what game and what brilliant opportunity was missed with FC5.
@@revengeofthesynth5430 I played the same way for the most part and had more fun than playing co-op with friends and destroying everything in 5 seconds
@@revengeofthesynth5430 Yeah. I'm currently playing AC Syndicate and while that generic story line seriously hurts my brain, all I want to do is to immerse myself into the city more. They have no match in the industry, when it comes to creating this vivid, detailed, beautiful worlds. I know Far Cry 5 map by heart and it will probably stick with me for a while.
I just finished a more complete playthrough and it was a lot better than people gave it credit for at release. The complaint about the story and forced progression were valid, but when Joseph makes eye contact and tells you "God will not let you take me." it legitimately gave me chills. Any impactful narrative was just too buried under a mountain of meaningless, vaguely religious-sounding nonsense for the villain monologues to be meaningful. That critique aside, this is an amazingly fun and immersive game with a wonderfully detailed map and massive variety of things to do. People just got so butthurt over the ending that they act like it doesn't even belong alongside 3 and 4. The "resist" ending was fine. I actually thought the "walk away" ending was even better. The shovel-tossing alone puts it firmly in my top 20 games of all time.
@Harutyun Tatlyan I’m about to beat the game for my fourth time (don’t ask), it’s a fun game but I don’t fault people if they want to give it a bad review. The story is so awful that it genuinely takes away enjoyment especially with kidnapping causing SO many progress related bugs. AAA developers should be held to the standard of hiring a decent writer and/or game director. The mission’s also not really important to the main story content but it was decent. Could’ve made it less predictable though: I didn’t clue into specifically Eli-though granted that’s because the layouts didn’t actually match-but I knew it was “conditioning” to break into some sort of friendly compound. They also could have done it without so many damn kidnappings.
@Harutyun Tatlyan The story was just not super developed; it was split into three sections which is great for openness but they didn’t handle it well. Also I will keep coming back to this because it is the game’s greatest flaw THE NUMBER OF KIDNAPPINGS THOUGH... one would’ve been more than enough. The opening was amazing though and is what first sold me on the game, if only they’d kept the same level of quality throughout. Also on the whole openness vs story thing Zelda somehow made it work (though with less story than I would like from most games) so it is doable.
This was the first Far Cry game I ever played, and it's also my favorite out of the series. The soundtrack, the setting, the villain, and the gameplay were all enjoyable. I wish I could play this game for the first time again.
@@ELiT3Griefer the overuse of motion blur and bloom makes it look super washed out. That combined with the low fov makes it nauseating to play. And after you defeat vaas the games story falls apart and introduces a new villain near the end of the game.
It depends. The way he talks about AC I think he's an old-school AC fan who is somewhat disillusioned by the direction of the franchise though I won't know for sure until he does a retrospective on Origins. I am confident this man doesn't like Odyssey though.
I love his material. I expected an in-depth analysis of Far Cry as a series, and 5 as an extension of it. I did not expect what I got. The part about society and how it intertwines with the ending of the game gave me chills
The devs took a different route in this Far Cry, they saw that people were blamimg Jason and Ajay for the things you, the player, did. So they decided to make the protagonist you, so that you can't blame the hundreds of deaths on nobody but yourself.
@@elvispresley2284 Not really. I feel no remorse doing these things in video games bc they're just code. Unless the game creates some pathos for it then it's pretty guilt free. So I don't think someone else not caring means it proves Joseph's points. I hate hurting people in real life but in a game it's not the same at all.
The Montana setting is perfect. The story felt so much more immersive than any other far cry for me. Faith’s region was my favorite. I really hope FC6 delivers as well as this one for me!
montana isn’t as exotic and “foreign” as other farcry settings tho, one of the the reasons FC3s setting was so good is because of its uncertainty and mysterious nature, Montanna being apart of america feels as if it’s not as separated and unknown by society, luckily farcry 6 isn’t going to be set in a completely exclusive and unknown country
How can the story feel immersive when the protagonist doesn't even speak, idk just for me far cry 5 evolved just backwards, it removed aspects that made far cry so iconic.
@@RandomTomatoSoup Yeah. It's a fun joke when used in good faith among lit nerds, but as with everything like that it can also be co-opted as propaganda for anti-intellectualism, and have that become the more widely understood reading, unfortunately.
@Black Mussolini That's basically art. Interpretations are as relevant as the piece itself. There would be no Joconde without people to contemplate it.
Especially since its a good game and arguably better now than shadow of Mordor. Though it did take removing macro transactions for it to get where it is now.
I grew up in rural America but close enough to the cities that I had occasional access but learning how foreign the games setting seemed to people made me realize just how little Americans even know about their own country.
At least with regard to Watch Dogs and Far Cry 5, the politics are not what your average Joe who doesn’t give much thought to politics, thinks constitutes politics. In other words, these games didn’t specifically lean left or right politically, which is all that most people think matters with regards to discussions of politics. When the pre-release gripes with FC5 from right-leaning folks had to do with whether or not it was going to be critical of right-wing politics, and the post-release gripes from the left-leaning ones were about how it wasn’t, it gives us an insight as to what Ubisoft probably means by “politics”. They seem to mean that they’re at least not playing the same political game everyone else does. At least, not publicly in the games they make.
This seems to me like a widespread semantic issue. Politics and culture war overlap but are not the same in distinct ways. Because there is absolutely no way Ubisoft actually believes there's no politics in their games. They are one of the most thematically overt companies in the mainstream. Assassin's Creed was once defined by an overt ideological conflict. Watch Dogs 2 has the most unsubtle political message in any game I've seen yet. And then of course there's Far Cry 5 with Eden's Gate's ideas.
Even then I thought it was a spoof ad about the company who makes the main antagonist's glasses. 😄 Wasn't until the end when it talked about the link below that I realized it was an actual ad!
I actually really enjoyed this Far Cry especially with friends (when the connection issues weren't an issue at least) I think the only region that somewhat annoyed me was Faiths due to tripping out on bliss 75% of the time until you defeat her
I'd have enjoyed the game a ton more without the 'cult disruption meter', or whatever you call it. If I'm actively trying to AVOID the main gameplay because I don't want to be massively yanked out of what I'm doing...something should be tweaked or removed.
Definitely. In all the games I've played, only the prologue for Red Dead Redemption II is as good as, if not better, than Far Cry 5's intro. Seriously, if Ubisoft put as much passion into all of their games just as they did with Far Cry 5's intro, we would be seeing GOTY contenders from them over and over again instead of average games.
Honestly I think ubisoft did a phenomenal job with FC5. Also It's cool to think about how John refers yo the deputy as wrath. When you think about all the people the deputy killed and all the destruction you've caused it makes sense.
Me too if itd been fleshed out a bit better. I strongly doubt however that New Dawn would have been a decent sequel. I think that kind of timeline would have a "Wrong Turn" effect. Although I do agree on far cry 5
This game is based on Jim Jones. The Marxist in the 70s who moved a lot of people under him in Jonestown and called him ‘father’. The similarities are too coincidental. I suggest looking into Jonestown
I know all about jim jones. Just didnt wanna go into it. But the devs did say one of the inspirations was heavens gate specifically but they also mentioned him jones in the article. They or the game however didn't say shit about diving into it. Just the cult references and how it starts thru belief
Oh my god, thank you so much for finally being somebody that actually talks about the game's massive amount of strong symbolism. Can't wait to see more out the channel, and you are now genuinely one of the new greatest UA-camrs I've taken a look at.
A comment that actually acknowledges a part of the video past the 20 minute point? Holy shit, they exist lol. Seriously though, I can't believe there's so few people talking about this. I was blown away by the understanding this video gave me to the stories core themes of paranoia and choice!
I loved this game. My favorite part about it was the story missions for characters. You saw why each stereotype-like character would stand up and defend their country. A father does to give his daughter a better life. A director does cuz the cult won't let him make his movie. A bear does for cheeseburgers. All the while you hear whispers in the background of a world in strife.
@@yesnoyeswait4306 Also it finally removed the "uncover the map trough hacking tower" or shit like that, you actually have to drive trough the map to discover it, and with the random events the experience is amazing.

any game has better physics than cyberpunk currently. when you can't keep up with the tick rate of a game, everything breaks engine wise (also what's the point of comparing that game to this? They are very different games with very different design priorities with one being hyped up to extreme measures and the other just being another ubisoft game. its not like far cry 5 didn't receive positive reception and cyberpunk didn't receive negative reception. shitting on one game with another game isn't gonna somehow make far cry 5 better or cyberpunk worse than it already is.)
@@D00000T Wtf? Cyberpunk is AAA-sized open world game, why not to compare it to another AAA open world game? Yes these are very different games, but you can still compare something like mechanics. And those Ubisoft's ''another Ubisoft game'' have certain quality standard when it comes to mechanics and visuals, wich is good. Cyberpunk was one of the biggest flops for long time, when you think about the resources spent and time they used to make it.
The environments alone are like a virtual vacation. Being from the PNW this all feels so familiar and perhaps more immersive than it does to others. The music is also beautifully done, but most of all this story is so deep and multi-layered that it goes way beyond merely a game or even just entertainment. This review, analysis, or essay, whatever one chooses to call it, does as much respect for all that as these writers put into FarCry5. Bravo good sir!
i think one of the most terrifying moments in the entire game....is when joseph smiles. he only really does it once. when hes in the bunker with the deputy. happy, looking almost giddy. not just at being proven right.....but also because he now knows the deputy will have to....join him. truly chilling.

Also love how the more trouble you cause for the enemy, the more effort they'll put into tracking you down and killing you. Kinda scary. I wish it did more to differentiate itself from FC3 tho.

I think the reason the sherif tells everyone to fall back in the secret ending is the fact that Joseph repeated a line they said in the helicopter. That tipped him off that he was listening in on their comms so they needed to fall back and send more people in.

I didn't listen to far cry 5's more philosophical elements not because I didn't think they could be interesting, but because I just wanted to blow Joseph Seed away with a shotgun and shut him up; you can do that to nearly every enemy in the game, so lemme do it now. but NOPE.

Makes it more rewarding for people invested enough to explore external sources I guess!
all along the seeds just needed to seek out a therapist, not murder
And Faith was abused and addicted to drugs too
To me though it feels cheap.

I found the location where Faith takes you during her cutscenes and boss battle.
It's a mesa or tabletop hill (not sure of the exact term) in the far east of her region. There are normal trees and animals.
It turns out the boss area is right next to the water area where you get on a boat with the Marshall.
Huh... would never have thought. Nice find.
A bit late but the term is likely a "plateau", and is quite accurate for representing a lot of shit happening while there's nothing but a wide plain terrain that barely distracts you in a map full of hills and pines, it was a good escenery design choice
Fun fact: The veterans hopsital is also on the map, though, only youuuuu can’t enter.
1 YEAR LATER:
I'd like to add that the area itself it actually marked out for you to find.
You must only walk the path. It is paved with Bliss petals and blood. It winds around the side paths for a very long time, but it eventually comes out at the plateau.

I actually thought the "walk away" ending was even better. the whole game just feels really genuine to play imo, also the incredible graphics that could even rival rdr2 really help the atmosphere as a whole
@@sw4g465
The intro’s great but the rest of the game’s story is clearly rushed or poorly thought out. The graphics are really good but not incredible.
@Harutyun Tatlyan
I’m about to beat the game for my fourth time (don’t ask), it’s a fun game but I don’t fault people if they want to give it a bad review.
@Harutyun Tatlyan
The story was just not super developed; it was split into three sections which is great for openness but they didn’t handle it well.
@Harutyun Tatlyan
It felt like a bunch of great elements that just couldn’t string together to make a whole.

montana isn’t as exotic and “foreign” as other farcry settings tho, one of the the reasons FC3s setting was so good is because of its uncertainty and mysterious nature, Montanna being apart of america feels as if it’s not as separated and unknown by society, luckily farcry 6 isn’t going to be set in a completely exclusive and unknown country

Remember, guys. Ubisoft claims that absolutely none of its games have a political message. Not a one.
Not even watchdogs? A game about corrupt politicians and corporations and government lol
Imma just say one thing: Keep your rifles by your side
This seems to me like a widespread semantic issue. Politics and culture war overlap but are not the same in distinct ways. Because there is absolutely no way Ubisoft actually believes there's no politics in their games. They are one of the most thematically overt companies in the mainstream. Assassin's Creed was once defined by an overt ideological conflict. Watch Dogs 2 has the most unsubtle political message in any game I've seen yet. And then of course there's Far Cry 5 with Eden's Gate's ideas.

Sequel is just alright. The gameplay is definitely better and more varied though

Jacobs final monologue is easily one of the most spine chilling pieces of dialogue i have ever heard in any game I have ever played
Sharky and Hurk together in a party talkin sh*t together is legit funny stuff.
I personally loved the setting over the other far cry games. Walking through the woods at night with a rifle and no HUD shooting cultists was some of the lost fun I had after finishing the campaign
This is still one of my favorite games, the soundtrack produced for the game as well as the licensed music are both phenomenal. In playing this game I discovered many music groups such as 7 Horse, White Reaper, Ol' cd, Huxlee, Scott H. Biram and Sarah Watkins. I would have probably never discovered any of these groups had it not been for this game. Thank you for posting this insightful video on this extraordinary game.
Bite the Buffalo was a pretty good band shown in the game too 👌
