I sparred many many rounds with Danny at Al Lemay's gym in Sebastopol California back in 1986/87. Danny was an outstanding sparring partner and really pushed me to be faster. Even now at 52, I am faster because of Danny. Thanks bro!!!

I was there as a small kid. He was amazing in sparring. Always looked unbeatable in the gym. Great guy! I still remember him hitting that old black cleto Reyes punching bag that Al used to have.

Me and Danny spar at Al Lemay’s and Gary Sullengers, late 80’s, early 90’s, and Danny was a very underrated fighter. I learned a lot from him. He had the right trainer and manager back in his youth. Danny May of had a chance at a title shot. When you can’t train full time, have to work a job, and boxing isn’t a full time commitment, like many other great fighters, who can focus on their trade. Rising to the highest level, is meant with to many hardships. I felt the same about Razz Chapin, who had all the tools in the world, but didn’t listen. Lastly, the tale of the tape. When they stated Danny lacked power? Uhm, I can tell you at 24 years old he had a thundering right hand, that’ would shake your boots if landed flush. Again, his limited application to his boxing trade, due to work, low quality trainers, management, and promoters, hurt him. Unmotivated. I’d be too, when you can’t find the fights you need. This is a shell of an old Danny. Unprepared like his other losses. He stopped believing in himself. Another local fighter from Sonoma County with pure raw talent that didn’t get groomed right in his youth. But guess what! He got to fight a legend on USA live TV, back in the day. I remember him picking me up at my house in Rohnert Park, in his BMW, and head for Sparring. My parents see my black eyes, coming into the house. Haha.
From what I hear now, Danny has become a good promoter and trainer. Kids be lucky to have him as a coach, as Danny has a lot of Smarts, and hopefully he can get Sonoma County on the Map in MMA/Boxing. I’m proud of him!!! Besides, in closing, in terms of this fight, he had to cut weight, and shed, as he’s a natural Super Middleweight. I know for a fact that this had to of hurt him fineness wise. Drained.

Dante Chavez yes, we’d go to war, push each other in sparring. He’d use to pick me up in his BMW, and head to the gym. He was married to his first wife then and living in Rohnert Park, and his baby daughter was not that old. He trained often out of Herb Cody’s Martial Art gym, since he had a ring, where he’d work mitts, use the heavy bag, and once in awhile spar with Jack Padilla. His former Trainer Harold I vividly remember, if I remember right? Dan Utilized his sparring at either Al’s or Gary’s. Those were the old days.
